We opted for the Swansea Backpackers since other local accomodation was either booked out, or appeared very expensive given the location or amenities. Obviously a backpackers hostel was quite a risk from a boomer’s perspective.||We believe that this place is a heaven for backpackers. It was abuzz with young people of many nationalities and backgrounds. The atmosphere was very positive. A pity we were 40 years past our “best before” dates.||We found the young guests to be very respectful, and very quiet from 10 pm and in the mornings. Our room was clean, and the shared facilities were in acceptable condition. Kitchen food prep area could do with resurfacing.||With the high intensity living comes high intensity maintenance, which was lacking a bit. The current owners are attempting to catch up. Hope that works.

Belle and Rick are the best managers. They care for their guests and try their best to help . The room and toilets are clean. Most of the backpackers were friendly and good vibes. Thank you Belle and Rick!

no power socket next to the bed, no wifi in the rooms, small & squeaky beds. seems like a lot of workers live there which gives it a weird vibe. also quite pricy but not a lot of options in that area.

Not recommended for families! Staff has harassed our kids for wanting to play with the toys in the shared area (such as a broken old Ukulele). At the same time, loud music until 1am is tolerated. When I complained to staff, they assaulted me, standing into my face, shouting, suggesting this place is for backpackers and that we should leave if I don’t like it. When I refused to, they called the police (which laughed it off of course, I already paid, but left anyway). Kids got very anxious. Totally not worth it, especially the hefty price you pay for a place with dirty, broken, and rundown facilities (Toilet leaking, showers disgusting, used sanitary products from previous guests in our room). To be avoided!

I stayed in a family room with my husband and 2 brothers. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner and there was a fantastic vibe within the backpackers. We only stayed one night, but would have liked to stay longer. While it is not a five star accommodation, neither is the price - it was clean, the bed was comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Forever in my heart 💚 I’m Logan, I lived almost 3 months in Swansea Backpackers and I had a very good Life. As a backpackers, it could be long and complicated to stay in the same place for few months, especially when it’s so quiet and without car, but I had a very good times and the owner, Chris, is a good Man. The place is safe and beautiful. The areas are clean and cute. And the housekeepers are very lovely and helpful ! I reckon, a ripper of a Hostel Mate !

We stayed one night in our caravan, unpowered, grassed site. Great value at $25 per night for 2 people. Very clean amenities. Bottle shop, cafe and tavern on site. Close to all that Swansea has to offer - walk to town and beaches. Wineries a short drive away.

I have been at this hostel a couple of times and would definitely go back. The rooms are affordable, the shared spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living room) are extra clean. The staff is really nice and responsive.
