Sweet Guesthouse on first impression looks nice. But for us it wasn’t so nice! The receptionist spoke very poor English (she would have thought it was an imperative to have some knowledge of the language when tourism is the main focus?). The room was clean but beds were soft and there was mould in the showers! It was also noisy with little sound proofing. We booked a taxi to a local restaurant in the evening. There are NO restaurants close by and they don’t serve food apart from breakfast. There was no drinking water in our rooms and in fact there was no water in the guesthouse!! I had to walk 200 metres to get water!!! The taxi (the one the guesthouse uses) charged us $20 each way ($5 per person) which I thought was outrageous for a five minute ride. The next morning, talking to someone who did speak English, I discovered that we had been charged at least double. The receptionist didn’t respond!!!

I enjoyed my stay at Sweet Guest House, but I can’t help but feel that they nickel-and-dime you for everything. The breakfast is 10€ per person for a very simple continental breakfast, while there are cafes nearby where you can eat delicious local food at your hearts content for 2-3€ total. If you want late check-out there’s a fee, which is fine - but what’s not fine is that they want to charge an extra 7€ to use the common areas after checkout. This is not a way to respect guests who have already paid a relatively high premium to stay here. They also charge 10€ per person for a taxi, which is billed by the hotel - again, I can’t help but feel the price is exaggerated and the hotel retains a cut. The room was clean, comfortable, and had air conditioning, and the shared areas are lovely. Service was hit-or-miss. The receptionists were great, particularly Gerilson who provided amazing service, but the chefs at breakfast seemed bothered that we would even talk to them. Anyways, I’m not so sure I would stay here again. I would definitely consider other choices in town.

We stayed the last 3 days of our trip to São Tomé at Sweet Guesthouse and we were impressed by this place. It is located about a 15 minute walk to the center of São Tomé City, it's cozy and very clean. Our room had a/c, private bathroom and hot water. We also had breakfast here - with good coffee, bread, fruits, egs and excellent juice. It took us a while to find out how to get to city center but once we learnt the way it took us less than 15 minutes to reach downtown. On the last day of our stay we left our luggage by the reception after check-out (which is 12:00) and went out to enjoy our last moments in STP. Then we came back to the Guesthouse changed and took for the airport - we were allowed to use the bathroom even though we had already check-out. I would recommend this place if you want to stay close to the city center of São Tomé City.

Our Impression of the guest house was formed even before we arrived. Bemilton was so helpful in giving us information about what to do in Sao Tome and the costs thereof which was so instrumental in our planning. We found that the information on the net was a bit limited. He was so patient with us as we asked so so many questions!||||Our flight was delayed and our check in was really late but it was stress free. ||Being able to exchange Euros for Dobras at the guest house was really useful. ||The guest house is central and is walking distance from the market and some cool restaurants in Sao Tome. ||||Our room was lovely and incorporated African print into the curtains and bedding, the sheets were so soft, and the room had air-conditioner. The bathrooms are shared but always super clean so we had no issues there. ||||The guest house offers breakfast at an additional cost, but it's affordable. It has great common area upstairs with views overlooking the city, and a kitchen with all amenities so you could self cater if you wanted. There's also a jar of curated "get to know me"type questions in the common area downstairs which I thought was pretty cool and fun to play with new people that you meet. ||||The staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. If they made recommendations for restaurants, for example, they would always follow up and address criticisms if there were any. ||||I can't really fault this place, it's a great guest house and they go the extra mile!

One of the most renowned pension! Feels like a youth hostel, shared and private rooms available, public kitchen and sofa area... A good place to start your visit of São Tomé!

The best thing about here is the cozy atmosphere, the shared, fully stocked kitchen and common area. I met other travelers there and even learn how to cook some delicious Nigerian food with 2 Nigerian men that were there for work. The common area has a big TV and couches for people to sit and relax, as well as an excellent outdoor area, right off the kitchen, to eat outside.||The vibe is very good there and the rooms are spacious and comfy. Of all the places that I stayed, this one had the best air conditioning, which was a huge plus! The staff was helpful and even organized a trip for another traveler and I to the south of the island. They did all the work and all we had to do was show up, pay and enjoy the trip.||Breakfast is available in the morning at an additional price, which included tropical fruits, coffee, eggs, etc.||Highly recommended.

Stayed at Sweet Guest House a total of 7 days in November 2021. Big and clean rooms that are cleaned every day. Very friendly and helpful staff. I loved the social area on top since there are not so many places to stay out at night in Sao Tome. Highly recommended!

Nice, quaint and homely guesthouse. The place is clean with very stylish wooden accents. I love the shared spaces on the 2nd floor, with the cute carved ash trays, selection of books and chess/draughts for game lovers. Bemilton and Abdel are absolutely fantastic - very helpful and cheerful while at it. It’s not a budget hotel, but it’s worth the price. The city centre, nice cafes and supermarket are all about 10 minutes away if you like to walk. I will definitely visit São Tomé again, and I’ll be back to this sweet spot.
