We arrived in Savannah, hungry and searched around for something to eat. Restaurant stood out with good review and we decided to check it out. We got there around 4pm on a week day and we couldn’t find parking. Since this was our first time, we couldn’t take chances with being towed. Drove around and found parking about three blocks down. Restaurant was small spaced with about four tables. It was busy and ordering was quick. Staff were pleasant. We ordered (1) large oxtail with rice/peas and Mac and cheese; (1) large brown stew chicken with rice/peas and Mac and cheese; carrot cake, and pineapple soda. We didn’t feel comfortable eating at the restaurant because it was kinda small with people waiting in the restaurant for their food. Brown stew chicken wasn’t what we were expecting, but the sauce was really good. The oxtail sauce wasn’t it for me. It wasn’t good. Carrot cake was mehn, ended up thrashing it and the oxtail menu. Hubs was too hungry to care less, typical male, lol. Finished his food. Portion size was decent but food didn’t meet my expectation.

Google
My go to for Jamaican food in Savannah! I got the small oxtail plate with mac and cheese & rice and peas. I’ve been coming here for a while now via their food truck but was my first time stopping in their physical location. I was in and out within 5 minutes!

This is a great alternative to the craziness in the historic district! We got two meat sampler meals because we just couldn't choose what we wanted. Fortunately, everything was awesome! Our favorites were the ox tail and goat curry, make sure you get the rice and peas for all the delicious sauce! We were the only ones eating in the tiny restaurant but they had a ton of people coming in and out for to-go orders. The staff is also friendly and welcoming to all! The pineapple ginger drink is also worth noting, we bought two more to-go for mixing with Rum later. 😋 Enjoy! This one is not to be missed. (Please give me a thumbs up if you found this helpful!)

Google
Not the most aesthetically pleasing however the food was amazing and the price was very cheap compared to home (SC). The lady taking my order seemed to be upset that I ordered a double on oxtails but the combo i ordered said 3 meats. Mac n cheese was not what I thought it would be. However the rice and peas and oxtails (chefs kiss) Overall it was a great restaurant to order from for takeout and on my next trip I will be visiting again.

Slap yo mama good. Curry goat and oxtail with rice and peas and plenty of gravy. Take my money and give me a to go box.

Google
6 pieces of SPLIT OXTAILS is what I got for 21.99 I could've went to an American restaurant for a steak the exact same animal. BUT as always the food is great but not worth the drive and the food portion. My card number were punched in then chip inserted. If my account is hacked I will notify authorities .

Google
I ordered two sampler plates . This the first time I've gotten food and have very dissatisfied. The cabbage wasn't seasoned and there were no carrots in it . The brown stew chicken had a slight flavor it . The ox tail and gravy tasted super sweet. The curry shrimp was the only goog thing. Very unhappy after spending almost 55 for two meals.

Google
I’ve been looking for good Jamaican food here in Savannah, Georgia for quite a while and I finally hit the jackpot. The food is absolutely delicious and authentic as it gets. I’ve been telling everyone about this place and I cannot wait to return.

Yelp
Front of the Menu. Prices have gone up. I do believe I've seen the Coco Bread priced at $2.00 & the patties at $2.99 or $2.50. The food I hear is good. We've had the patties. Tasty, we can say as much. Very busy establishment. Everyone is coming through this place. They must never be without a line. To go orders are on HIGH UP IN THIS PLACE! And this is only my second time here. Hmmmm. At least this year. I do believe that when this building opened way back when for business, my family and I came. But, this year and last week and today is fair to say TOTALLY New Beginnings. Enjoy the food. Over and Out FranknKimm March 4th, 2025 - Tuesday Evening

Yelp
This food is amazing!!! First box is jerk chicken, rice, and cooked cabbage + carrots. Second box is goat curry, plantains, macaroni and cheese! The staff was so helpful and the food is something I will crave! Would recommend this to anyone visiting Savannah!

Yelp
Ordered the Curry Goat, rice and peas and cabbage for dinner. Hubby ordered the Oxtails, rice and peas and plantains. I'm very picky about ordering goat as it just has to be cooked right and not everyone can cook it. I started in on my plate, ate a lil piece. Got another and tasted it and I was on my way. Goat was cooked nice and tender, curried with the right amount of spices, not too hot. The rice and peas what cooked perfect as well, not to hard not to soft. The greens were good. I looked over at hubby and he was working over his Oxtails as well. Definitely will be back and definitely recommend you give them a try. You can see the before and after pictures of my plate. Speaks for itself.

Yelp
Great food. Service is meh-- not over the top but still good. Food truck or catering service tends to have better customer service. Have been back multiple times. Each time the food is a hit!

Yelp
Glad to have tried this gem. The oxtails were meaty and delicious, great value, I got a small sized oxtail with 2 sides, I really enjoyed my meal and will come back to try more.

Yelp
The people here are super friendly. Small inside. The food is amazing. Best Jamaican food hands-down.

Yelp
The service and food was amazing. I ordered the curry goat with the cabbage and carrots with plantains and it was hefty servings. I will visit again when in Savannah.

Yelp
I went here for lunch today. This was absolutely delicious. If you like Caribbean food and live in Savannah, you must try.

Yelp
I had been craving Jamaican food since I relocated to this area and my hair stylist recommended it. It did not disappoint I forgot to take pictures but I enjoyed ox tails rice and peas, cabbage, plantains and a spicy beef patty. All very flavorful I will be returning.

Maurice W.

Yelp
We went there because we live in Atlanta where you'll pay $30-$35 for a large helping of oxtails. So the $19.99 large oxtails was why we came! They did not disappoint! They were tender, seasoned well and were fantastic! Yum! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
The service was pretty quick and the prices were fair. I had the jerk chicken and I enjoyed it however I felt like it was a little heavy to my tasting.
google avatar

Johnathon M.

Yelp
The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great texture in the food, the service was very friendly and prompt. The ambiance in the restaurant was calming. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you're passing through Savannah. It's conveniently located next to the Savannah Memorial Health Center Hospital. I had lunch/dinner here two days in a row.
google avatar

Najwa M.

Yelp
I was excited to come here and taste the food and ended up asking for a full refund because of the horrible service. Their menu is worded completely incorrect and still did nothing to try and correct their own error. They did decide to give an attitude for their poor grammar skills though ! Would never recommend!
google avatar

Jalessa W.

Yelp
Good food . Nice service. Good mood and smell from environment . Oh and that pineapple ginger is awesome

Michelle W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, speak, and very friendly to their customers. I ordered the vegetable plate. Everything was cooked to perfection. Good taste. I'm so glad I found them. This will be my go-to Jamaican restaurants.

Ashton F.

Yelp
Amazing oxtails, mac n cheese and plantains. Very hospitable service. Dk punch was out of this world.

Yelp
I've only ordered to go from this restaurant but each time the plates have been full and I always end up with leftovers. The oxtails are tender and savory, the jerk chicken is DELICIOUS and the mac and cheese is devine! They always put gravy/sauce over the rice and peas which makes it taste so good! We always call ahead and our food is ready when we come to pick up. The restaurant is always clean and the staff are welcoming. I have a toddler who is a picky eater and she LOVES this restaurant. Definitely give this restaurant a try!
google avatar

Wanda D.

Yelp
I ate there before. But I was upset that the Rice was separate like a Side Dish. I'm from Jersey and our Rice comes with the meal. If I order Ox-Tail I get Rice ,Cabbage and Fried Plaintain for that price not everything is a side Besides that the food is good

Nicolle L.

Yelp
Most delicious food I've eaten. Wow. It tastes like god. People there is so kind and nice. Great customer service. The place is quiet small. You can't eat there but they definitely serve the best food in the town.
google avatar

Hannah A.

Yelp
This place is a must! Since I've been in the Savannah area I have been a little disappointed with the food, but Sweet Spice was phenomenal! A+ Such a friendly staff & everything was tasty. We got coco bread, beef + veggie patties, dk punch, plantains & rice and peas. I highly recommend you stopping by.

Lashon J.

Yelp
They are very rude here and it would be nice if they learned some phone etiquette in addition the key lime cake is dry the jerk chicken is dry also and doesn't have a good flavor!
google avatar

Haley B.

Yelp
The chicken curry plate was really good. The meat was tender and juicy. The little bones were a bit hazardous for eating fast but it's worth it to go slow and enjoy it. I got it with white rice and fried plantains which were good sides. Everything always comes out fast and the people there are very nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't judge this place based off its location or appearance. The food is excellent and service/cashiers are always extremely friendly and accommodating. Jerk chicken is my weekly go to!
google avatar

Janell D.

Yelp
Best place in Savannah for authentic Jamaican food. The Jerk chicken, curry chicken and Beef stew are outstanding.

Yelp
Poor customer service on 6/07/23. I frequent this food truck. Never been treated the way this female treated me. I stood there over ten minutes while she carried on a personal conversation with a customer who had already received their food order and had stepped away from the window I was not acknowledged or greeted. After the customer walked off, the lady went to the front of the truck without saying one word to me as I stood there to order. I walked away and got in my car and drove off. The food is amazing though. But, I will not be mistreated to spend my money.

Yelp
Ok so everyone was raving of this spot ! It was good! The only reason they are getting a 4 instead of a 5 is a couple of reasons which Honestly to some may be a deal breaker but for others not that bad. 1- oxtail had a taste of curry in it and taste more middle eastern than Jamaican. It could be who cooked it that day or maybe I should have just gotten rice and peas instead of white rice. 2- beef patty wasn't hot. Though flavorful could have been hotter than it was. 3- the brown stew snapper with cabbage and rice and peas was on point !!! Only thing missing was a little more brown stew sauce from the fish. The rice and peas was excellent like somebody momma ah cook it! The fish fried like true yardee style (hard) but was flavorful and tasty. The cabbage was even on point and plantain ripe and nice!! Definitely will go back!!! 8 out 10.

Yelp
This place was the bomb the Jamaican jerk Oxtail even some gizzards now and again. This hot spot is has great food comfort from my family friends childhood days . I am blessed to check out this cute place in the heart of Savannah. Thank you ladies, the extra mac & cheese was more then enough. Reminds me of my recent trip to Montego Bay...

Janah N.

Yelp
Their Oxtails, Cabbage & Rice plate was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. We will surely miss this place Thank you Sweet Spice.

Nunncorp J.

Yelp
Great food fast service the oxtails are delicious. If you get a chance get the peanut butter drink.

Yelp
Was looking for something different to eat for Dinner one night and stumbled across Sweet Spice. I have been to Jamaica before on a cruise and had liked the food so I figured I'd give it a shot. And boy am I SO glad I did. I got a large Jerk Chicken plate with Rice and Peas and Plantains. The first thing I noticed is that they weren't shy with their portion sizes which is always a big plus! With one bite of the rice and peas I was hooked. It was unbelievable good, and of course the chicken and plantains were just as good! Chicken was juicy, tender, seasoned amazingly! The rice and peas were the best rice and peas I've ever had in my life! Plantains were scrumptious! Very big fan! If you're looking for something new to try this is the place! Enjoy your meal, and like always. You're welcome!

Yelp
It was my husband's day off and he felt like some Jerk Chicken, so we decided to go to Sweet Spice (SS) on our lunch date while the kiddos were in school. I had tried one of their beef patties at the Food Truck Festival last year, which was good, but I didn't get a true sense of their food, so this time, I was super excited to try a variety of their items. - Parking - Center lot. It's located in the same strip of businesses as Savannah Filipino Authentic Cuisine and the old location for Joe's Homemade. SS sits on the corner, right by Waters Avenue. - Vibe - A small, modest Mom and Pop shop with a handful of tables. Every inch of space is used there. There are a row of about 3 tables on either side and people line up in the middle. You go straight up to the counter in the back, order and pay and then take a seat or take it to go. Just stay straight and move forward, do a pivot after you order and sit down or move on out! - TLC - There was a middle aged lady working when we arrived just before a rush and she was all smiles and so sweet and genuine. She was packing the food and another lady was at the cash. They both moved the line along quickly. - Eats / Refreshments - Small Jerk Chicken with Rice & Peas and Mac & Cheese - My husband ordered this obviously, since that was why we went there in the first place and SS did not let us down! Jerk was actually super moist and more stewed then grilled/baked which I am used to the latter method, which sometimes tends be dry. The Mac was fab too! Elbow macaroni with ooey gooey cheesy-ness. The Rice and Peas! Mmm, I could just eat that with anything. So simple, but so good! Sweet Spice Sampler - I ordered this one of course, so I could try as many things as I could and I wish the Sampler plate just included a scoop of EVERYTHING, but alas, I had to narrow it down to 3 so I picked Oxtail (my fave), Brown Stew Chicken which the lady in front of me suggested and Curry Chicken with Rice & Peas and Sweet Plantains. HOLY MOLY. My container felt like it was 5 lbs. It was so heavy! I could have probably done a workout lifting that. So where do I begin? Oxtail was delicious with whatever brown sauce they cooked it in. The Curry Chicken had a good strong, curry taste, not watered down. And the best surprise was the Brown Stew Chicken! I've never had it before, but it had a slight bit of sweetness to it and it was almost as if it had been battered lightly in something and then stewed so the sauce had this nice thickness to it. Thank you, Stranger Lady for the recommendation! The Sweet Plantains were perfection and again, those Rice & Peas that sits underneath all these saucy meats is even better because it soaks up all the sauce! So good! So, again, they are generous with their portions and for the price, it's a great deal! My husband and I both ate what we could and then we ended up consolidating our boxes and we left with his container full of food! - Kiddos - No kiddos on this visit, but they would have torn it up! I did notice that they had 2 options for the kiddos on the menu and only $4.99. Sweet deal! Definitely want to go back and take them with us! - Heads Up - It gets pretty tight in there with all the patrons, so if you have personal space issues, I suggest you take it to go. Generous portions, great price, friendly service and more importantly, food that makes you quiet. No time for talking when stuff is this good. Note to self for future: We could probably share a Large plate or Sampler plate next time and add something else like the patties or another app. Also, I want to try the Coconut cake, because they didn't have any in stock on our visit.

Yelp
An absolute must for my jamaican food fix in Savannah. They always have plenty of options for vegetarians too, so I enjoy that.
google avatar

Derrick G.

Yelp
Sweet Spice is best Caribbean Food I eaten in a restaurant in the United States. A lot of my relatives are from Jamaica, and Sweet Spice is the first Caribbean Restaurant that can compare to homemade Caribbean Food. I highly recommend the jerk chicken, curry, rice and peas, and fried plantains. The fried plantains pare well with the jerk chicken to balance the spicy flavor. The restaurant is no frills, but food is amazing.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Very authentic, fairly varied, and extremely tasty traditional Jamaican cuisine and at very reasonable prices for large portions, at that. I had the brown sauce chicken which is a classic, non-curry, non-spicy, Jamaican favorite and with it for my sides had rice and peas with fried plantains. The serving size was ginormous--which is not atypical to Jamaican restaurants, to be fair--and the chicken so flavorful. The ladies who work here--despite a hot kitchen, close quarters, and endless, hurried, customers--never seem to get impatient, weary, or cross. They're really jewels, all of them. The only negative I can offer about this place at all is the food isn't that healthy and is so good you're probably gonna woof it all right down, too. But if you want quality Jamaican food, look no further. I'm eager to return and try some other dishes now.

Noha S.

Yelp
I agree with you yelpers! This place is amazing. I have gotten their jerk chicken catered to my parties but my recent favorite has been their oxtails! They don't skimp on the meat you get like most places and the sauce is just so delicious on their rice. Their sweet plantains and cabbage are delicious. The beef patties aren't the best I've had but there are so many other tasty things it doesn't even matter. Their brown stew chicken is also delicious! Most things you can't go wrong here. The owner is especially awesome. There was a short time that I could not have dairy (luckily the world is back in order and I can have it again) but when the owner heard me asking about ingredients he came out and was like what you looking for?? And proceeded to make me brand new sides made without butter! It was incredibly nice and I find myself craving this place ALL THE TIME. Oh, and their portions are ginormous! Lunch and dinner in the same box!
google avatar

André M.

Yelp
Honestly this is my favorite Jamaican spot in Savannah, most Caribbean places I go to tend to be extremely cheap with the amount of food compared to price, however this place is solid !
google avatar

Candace H.

Yelp
Food is ok. Nothing special and I wouldn't have to go back. Flavors seems to be somewhat lacking. I ordered the sampler plate with oxtails, beef rib, and curry chicken. The curry chicken was the best. The oxtails lacked in flavor definitely and I was bummed because I had a taste for oxtails while visiting Savannah. The beef rib had decent flavor but it was tough. Sides (cabbage, plantains, and rice & peas) were pretty good as well.

Lucy S.

Yelp
Authentic Caribbean oxtails!! Soooo good and fresh, I will be back every time I'm in Savannah.

Mr J.

Yelp
Service was decent but the food definitely lacked flavor. Oxtails were bland. I was disappointed.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
Enjoyed every food item(oxtail, jerk chicken, plantain, cabbage & carrots, rice and (fried coconut shrimp-from the food truck)) we got. Everything tasted good, portions were good, people were also friendly.
google avatar

Monique E.

Yelp
Good food, place was small with 5 tables I believe? I think it's a type of place where you get your food and go home and eat it. We got the oxtail, jerk chicken and goat on rice and plantains. Everything was DELICIOUS!
google avatar

Azsha H.

Yelp
The food is amazing, I've had the browned stew chicken, the oxtail, the jerk chicken. All of it is great, so I know you're wondering why I've only given this place 3 stars. Two words; CUSTOMER SERVICE. Their customer service is TERRIBLE. They are not friendly, they are not professional. They are not efficient. I still suggest you visit for your own experience. Nevertheless the food is AMAZING priced a little higher than I would care for but still very flavorful to say the least.

Yelp
Nothing like this place here in sav. I have not come close to having some bomb Jamaican food unless im in ATL but this place here is WORTH IT

Yelp
In a nutshell, we had to come to Savannah for some of the most flavorful Jamaican food I've had. Here's some details for added color:  Environment- quaint little shop that serves honest, homemade food. It's a little off the beaten path but worth it. Service- Servers Jackie and Alison. They were friendly, knowledgeable and so incredibly helpful! We werent sure what to get and they went above and beyond in trying to help us. They even let us try a little sample. Food- oh boy! We tried the Mac and cheese, plantains, oxtail, jerk chicken, beef ribs and beef stew. And did I mention they do fresh juices? We tried the pineapple ginger. The meats were soft and tender, and so full of flavor. My favourite was definitely the beef ribs. Second place was the oxtail (because oxtail!). But really, we didn't have anything we didn't love. The juice was perfect: fresh and not overly sweet. Price- can't be beat! We split the Sweet Spice sampler. For 15.99, you get three meats and 2 sides. Since there were running a little low, they gave us a little jerk chicken to try.  Winner winner, (jerk) chicken dinner!
google avatar

Denise D.

Yelp
Lunch with co-workers. I had the brown stew chicken, cabbage, rice and peas. Delicious...delicious! Small place / limited seating. The good food makes up for it.
google avatar

Regina C.

Yelp
Brought my mom here on our visit to Savannah. She was so impressed by the portion size and taste of the food that she wanted to return before we left to take some home with us. I had oxtails with rice and peas and mac and cheese. My mom ordered the 3 meat sampler with oxtails, curry goat and brown stew chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. She raved about how good it was. Both our plates were overflowing and we made multiple meals out of them. The restaurant is a little tight so we didn't try to eat in. We just got it to go. They also have a selection of cakes and bread pudding. The bread pudding tasted like it was made with rum (which is a major plus) and it was a huge piece. The lady at the register stated that all the desserts were made in house except for the carrot cake. I would recommend this place if you are visiting Savannah.
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
Sweet Spice is a great choice in Savannah. My partner and I are always looking for restaurants who cater to people who are gluten free(an intolerance) and vegetarian while we are traveling. Many of the items were naturally gluten free (meat and rice) - the jerk chicken comes highly recommended. The tofu curry was also phenomenal with rice. The sweet plantains made a great dessert. There was plenty for leftovers! Seating was a little tight, but it's the perfect little spot for this great food.
google avatar

Reshonda S.

Yelp
Very good food and nice people. Overall, I think the macaroni and cheese was the best item by far! I had the sampler dish with oxtails, stew chicken, and curry goat. Everything was tasty; but the oxtails were a bit sweet, which is different from what I'm used to. The stew chicken was also different (fried then stewed), but I really liked the change from regular stew. Regardless, I would recommend this location.

Yelp
This place is authentic and flavorful. Everything is fresh and made with love. The curry shrimp is always my go to. The fried plantains and the Mac and cheese are to die for. If you're looking for a good authentic island cuisine, this is your place. Worth every penny!
