How good is this?! Well we are from SC and last week we were going to see our daughter who lives in Baltimore for dinner. Asked her to pick a place and she chose Sweet 27 Cafe and Bakery because everything is gluten free which her dad, my Honey needs due to allergies. And tonight, as we were driving back from MA to SC, we decided to return back to this restaurant even though our daughter wasn't available, to try some different dishes. Still ordered the sweet potato as the side again as it's amazing to me.
Honey ordered the Orange Tofu with the Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes. I ordered the Aloo Naan Bread and the Arancini Rice Ball since I was going to gobble up Honey's Sweet Potatoes that I fell in love with the week before. And it wasn't a one time fluke, it was delicious!! And Honey, who doesn't really like sweet potatoes tried it and really enjoyed it too. I so wish I could get the recipe.
I was lucky enough to get one piece of Naan from the basket since Honey ate them all up, creating mini wraps of his orange tofu and mashed potatoes and some of (my ) sweet potatoes, or dipping it into the orange sauce. The tofu was delicious though last week's tomato tofu was better since we both felt the orange was a bit too sweet for a meal. Still yummy and the tofu.
Oh, and since they had GF and some vegan desserts, we again got some this time but for different items. Honey chose the Hostess. And after some prompting, I had been having so many desserts the previous few days in Boston and thought it would be better to curtail the sweets, I chose the raspberry ganache tart (I think . . I remembered it said raspberry and tart, and it was so good that it blew our minds since gf and vegan too).
The Hostess was incredible too. For the "cream" it must have been coconut cream which tends to have that coconut oil texture and flavor. The "cake" part of it was moist and delicious too. Extremely impressed. I sent pix of the desserts to our daughter who works at another bakery down a few blocks and has come here to buy desserts since her roommates need to eat GF, to please befriend folks here to learn the recipe to send to us or else she's going to have her dad and mom come visit often for these fantastic food!!
The desserts are not cheap as the Hostess was $4 or $4.50 which is standard for cupcakes and a great price for specialty like GF. The tart must have been $8 or $8.50. One would think that's high, but then again, when you order a slice of dessert at a restaurant, that's the standard price. Yet, when you taste these desserts, you'd be willing to pay for these.
We had the same woman both weeks. She was nice and friendly but in a more reserved way, giving you space to enjoy your meal and company. She automatically brought out an extra plate without our asking.
If we lived in Baltimore, it would definitely be our favorite and would be a regular.
We came on Sundays both times, but the restaurant has other activities on other nights . . . Ie Happy Hour (there's a whole section for the bar which was closed on Sundays), there's also outdoor seating that must be open on other nights. So many items to choose from
