Atlanta Chefs Are Giving Mushroom Its Moment in the Spotlight | Eater Atlanta

"A new Duluth restaurant blending Southern and Korean influences that offers sweet soy‑glazed roasted mushrooms; the team began testing with local mushrooms and were impressed by the quality, prompting the dish’s inclusion on the menu." - Danielle Meinert

Sweetsong at the Westin Gwinnett offers a great dining experience with a lovely ambiance. The food was excellent — we had the omelette and the avocado kimchi toast, both of which were delicious and well prepared. The space itself is warm and inviting, making it a nice spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Service was a bit slow, and it’s somewhat pricey for the location, but the quality of the food and atmosphere still made it an enjoyable visit. Would definitely return, especially for breakfast.

Sweetsong is everything! The vibe, the aesthetic, the service : 10/10. Maria was amazing, super sweet and attentive, and the staff genuinely seems to love being there. Cocktails? Chef’s kiss. I had a lemon drop and the drinks are 🔥. I went with the Fried Korean Bowl with salmon and took the waiter’s tip: less carrots, more cucumbers…. flavor explosion! Salmon cooked perfectly. Had the best girls’ night here and will definitely be back.

I love this restaurant it was absolutely amazing. From the moment we sat down, our server Belene was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. It was my birthday, and she went out of her way to make it special she truly made my day. Belene knew the menu well, gave great recommendations, and made sure everything was perfect without ever being intrusive. Her positive attitude and professionalism really stood out and made our whole experience even better.

Had a splendid time at the SweetSong bar w Jasmine! She makes great espresso martinis w tequila 😋, she’s very attentive and funny! Sweet Song services the downstairs bar.. so I ordered the half korean rice bowl w salmon & the half baby beet salad. 7 out of 10💕 Went back to Sweet Song for breakfast as well.. great service and food was good. 7 out of 10!

Sitting at the bar while waiting for my food and Belene made the prettiest strawberry lemon drop for me. It’s not just pretty but very delicious and refreshing how I like mine. Definitely check her out!

Google
Ambiance, drinks and conversation with Belene was an absolute dream last night. She crafted a beautiful espresso martini and was very knowledgeable about the drinks as well as just being the sweetest most friendly bartender I've ever come across! I had the gulf coast shrimp and the crab cake appetizer and both were phenomenal, the short ribs were a bit bland, I was disappointed i couldn't taste the kimchi seeing as thats why I ordered it in the first place but honestly Belene made up for it tenfold. Will definitely return to get another espresso martini from her!!

Google
Sweetsong is a great vibe. Chill with a great ambiance. The service is exceptional. Ask for Belene. She's an amazing server and bartender. She gives excellent recommendations and has the best personality. I will be back. The service is much better at Sweetsong than Overstory Rooftop. Try the Korean rice bowl. Delicious 😋

Google
Our server Belene was amazing. She gave us great recommendations as well as awesome service. The atmosphere was nice and the food amazing. We had the wings to start off (plus an order to go lol) plus the Korean rice bowl (one salmon and the other steak). The entire experience was nice and I look forward to coming back to try out more of their menu and drinks.

Yelp
Staying here in the beautiful Westin hotel in Duluth for an office Christmas party. Dining here during yucky weather twice to avoid getting out. Our dinner was delicious and we enjoyed the beet and arugula salad, short ribs over pasta and jacket potato with the most delicious pork belly. My only complaint was the main dish could have been warmer. We enjoyed a favorite bottle of wine off the efficient wine menu that was well appointed without being too dramatic. I walked down for a later lunch solo and was greeted by friendly staff who offered her favorite option of the salmon rice bowl. I substituted for chicken and was delighted they offer many portions at half size. Again I enjoyed another familiar favorite wine by the glass and appreciated the variety of craft cocktails on the menu as well as their local craft beers.

Yelp
Came for the breakfast with a large work group recently. Our server was really nice and prompt. They made sure our coffees were refreshed every so often. The eggs Benedict tasted great. The hollandaise was creamy and eggs cooked perfectly. The only downside was just how expensive everything was even for something as basic as oatmeal.

Yelp
Delicious! I tried the mushrooms- yummy! The salmon bowl was spectacular. Crispy pieces of salmon, carrots, kimchi and cucumbers- absolutely perfect! I got the half size and it was the perfect portion! The price was like a normal restaurant- not inflated because it's in a nice hotel!

Yelp
Let me tell y'all, I took a little detour to pure bliss at the Westin Gwinnett, and the vibe of this property? Un. Matched! Seriously, you walk in and it's like a warm hug from a cloud wearing a fancy hat. You just know good things are about to happen. My mission? Speedy sustenance! So, naturally, I zeroed in on the unsung hero of the snack world: French Fries! And let me tell you, Sweetsong's fries are doing the Lord's work. Fresh? Check. Crispy? Oh honey, they were practically crackling with deliciousness! Each bite was a perfect little golden crunch of potato perfection. Seriously, forget your troubles, just grab a handful of these bad boys. Now, you know I'm all about the experience, so a stellar snack deserves an equally dazzling drink. Enter "Just Peachy." This isn't your grandma's sweet tea, folks. This is a symphony in a glass! Elderflower whispering sweet nothings, zesty lemon doing a little tango, spiced tea adding a touch of intrigue, all topped off with delightful little bubbles that tickled my nose and made my tastebuds sing! Non-alcoholic drinks are officially my jam if they all taste THIS good. Move over, boring beverages! BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! (Insert dramatic pause and a spotlight effect in your mind). My eyes did a little happy dance when they landed on the LEMON CHESS PIE! Let's break this down, shall we? A ginger crust that promises a little spicy kick? YES. A classic lemon pie filling that's tart and tangy and everything right in the world? DOUBLE YES. Then they hit you with the lychee gel - a little burst of exotic sweetness that's like a mini-vacation for your mouth. And the pièce de résistance? A delicate, crispy Coconut Tuile perched on top like a tiny, elegant crown. Y'ALL. This dessert was like they reached into my brain, grabbed all my favorite flavors, and mashed them together in the most glorious way possible. How could a human being with a soul say no to THAT lineup? It was a culinary "meet cute" of epic proportions. I sadly missed the grand opening festivities last year (life, you know?), but mark my words, Westin Gwinnett! I will be back. And it won't be a fleeting visit. This property has officially stolen a little piece of my heart (and my stomach!). The ambiance is truly something special, and the tastes? Oh. Em. Gee. If you're ever in the area, do yourself a favor and make a pit stop at Sweetsong. Your tastebuds will thank you, and your soul will feel just a little bit brighter. #ashsaidit #WestinGwinnett #Sweetsong #AtlantaFoodie #GwinnettEats

Yelp
The food was so fresh and good. The ambience is very welcoming and the staff were very nice. We stayed at the Westin. And went to Sweetsong for breakfast, which ends at 10a and lunch begins at 11a. Everything tasted natural and homemade with great portion sizes. I would go back there any day just to try more menu items. Love love love it!

Kassandra W.

Yelp
The food was delicious, but the $18 Baby Beet Salad was so small! I even asked the server to confirm this was the full size & not the half size. Skip it. Get something else.

Yelp
The ambiance in this place absolutely beautiful and romantic for a date night. My husband and I had a late lunch date and the waitress was very sweet. We tried Overstory and this was next on our list. Hubs loved his old fashion. The vacation mode cocktail was just okay. Really loved the crab cake and crispy wings. We will back for dinner soon.

Yelp
Update: Sweet Song does not care. I do not recommend coming to this restaurant right now. They are not ready and it shows. I went with a large party for my birthday and it was a mistake. Had my company not been so good, I feel like violence would've ensued. My party took up two large tables in the restaurant and they broke down how they were going to serve us and that was fine. We wanted to start with some cocktails and they told us that they don't have 3/5 of their cocktails on the cocktail menu. They didn't have one of their appetizers and overall just didn't seem prepared for being new? Our server was fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. It just felt like they didn't care as much because they knew gratuity is automatically added so they get tipped either way. After our appetizers got to our table it took about 45mins for my table's food to come out and my other table got their food over an hour after appetizers. My other table said their food had no salt in it whatsoever and my table's food was a tad salty. We wanted to complain to the manager but at some point in the night, he just disappeared. So all in all - stay away from this place for a while until they get it together. It might be possible that if you have a party larger than 4, it's not worth it. The prices of this place is not worth the lack of quality in their food and service.

Yelp
Per suggestions here, ordered and shares a full Korean Rice Bowl - it is excellent cocktails and beer also quite nice Someone had preselected a few dishes - but they looked at the lunch menu - not an option for dinner - so make sure to look at the right menu! It is Right before a show at the arena next door so of course it is crowded and busy - no seats in restaurant but we enjoyed the patio outside the bar - have to order from the bar, which was slammed, service is friendly but understandably a little slow Still arrived at 7 and will be out by 7:45 with a quick bite and a drink

Yelp
Would give this place no stars if possible. Hard to believe that Overstory and this place are even in the same building. The manager disappeared once he knew everything had gone downhill. Food came out an HOUR after the apps came out. Half of it was salty, half of it wasn't seasoned. Staff chose to ignore some of the dinner party and they were slower than slow. For their prices, they should have amazing dishes and amazing service. Both of these things rang untrue. Please avoid at all costs.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the newly constructed Westin Atlanta Gwinnett. The interior of Sweetsong compliments the decor of the hotel well and gives travelers a convenient, chic, and tasty dining option. The food was amazing! The Patagonian salmon had a nice glaze and cooked to my liking. My server recommended the collard greens, and I'm glad he did because they were seasoned to perfection. My only complaint about the greens is that they were overcooked which led to a mushy texture , but the flavor was all there! I always have to have something sweet after dinner and my southern roots led me to the peach cobbler. It had some room for improvement in my opinion. Although I love extra crust in my cobbler, it was too flaky for my liking and could've used some butter on top. The ice cream was delicious. All of that said, I'd give it an 8/10 and will continue to dine here during my stay at the Westin.

Yelp
My friend and I were seated at the bar for 15-20 minutes and two bartenders were working. It was a quiet night and not at all crowded. They completely ignored us and when other groups of business men came in well after us, they were promptly served. We didn't have the opportunity to order a drink, much less receive a hello. The bar aesthetic looks nice but they need better bartenders than the 2 men working Friday, August 16th.

Yelp
The food was all delicious and drinks were good. Nathan was an excellent server, very kind, knowledgeable and attentive. He really made our experience at SweetSong great and the dishes we had were truly amazing. I see that a lot of the more negative reviews on here are from the first few months after the restaurant opened, and I think many of the issues with the food quality and service that were reported at that time have been remedied. This young restaurant definitely deserves a shot.

Yelp
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. For the price they charged and what they give you is ridiculous. The menu isn't offered much added on top of it they ran out of a lot of things on a Saturday night no less. Our server also seemed annoyed by the 3rd questions we asked and didn't know the answer so he had to run back to asked the kitchen multiple times. Most of his answer coming back was " we don't have that today". Appetizer I ordered the crab cake. $18 of just crab cake and salt. It was so salty and dry. Barely sauce like the picture you see at all, just straight up salt. Took us an hour for the entrée to come out, even more. Our party has around 15 people, split into 2 tables. One of the table had their food and finished it and the second table has no food yet. The server never comes and check up on us during the hour we were waiting for our food. When the food came out it was so disappointing. On our side of the table, we ordered 2 pork chops one was over cooked and one has no color to it. Both have no flavor. The 3 orders of Caesar salad my friends ordered is literally is just Romanian lettuce and chickpeas. They barely gave any dressing for the salad. The rest wasn't happy with their food either. The cocktail was a joke. I ordered "Nuts about you" but with either vodka or tequila. He said sure, but then went and asked the bartender came back, said that they ran out of the ingredient to make that drink. So I ordered Vacation mode that tasted so bad that me and my friend both didn't touch our drinks at all. I honestly sensed hostile feelings from our server. I'm not sure if he was frustrated with us or the fact that the restaurant wasn't prepared but he was neither welcoming nor helpful. Oh and for him to act like that, they automatically charged us 22% gratuity on the tab. We were there for 3 hours. Most of it is waiting around for the servers to come and get our orders and the other half is to wait for the food to come out. 3 hours! We valet parked and was informed that because we were there for 3 hours it was $15 each. Honestly, if you want to spend money on great food and beautiful ambiance there are plenty of restaurants in Duluth to do so. Don't waist your time and money here.

Yelp
Was staying at the Westin for work and with the weather not being great I kept coming here when I needed something to eat. The service was fantastic Belene was so friendly and the food was amazing for lunch and dinner. The New York strip I got was out of this world. The ambiance is great too. Definitely recommend and I will be back whenever I'm in town.

Yelp
If you're dining at the Westin, make sure to visit Sweetsong Kitchen downstairs. This place offers a stunning ambiance, an exceptional staff, and delicious food that makes every penny worth it. Any initial sticker shock fades away as soon as the first bite hits your palate. The staff is outstanding, and the manager, Rumi, truly understands the business and excels at it. From the perfectly cooked salmon to the mouthwatering peach cobbler, every dish is a delight. When I find myself looking toward the open kitchen to see who created such fantastic flavors, I know I've found a winner. The layout of Sweetsong Kitchen is beautiful, but the service and the culinary experience are even better. I can't give this experience enough stars--it's simply superb.

Yelp
Excellent food! Attentive and thoughtful staff. Highly recommend! Korean bowl is delicious.

Yelp
Great waiter, Nathan!!' He was attentive and sincerely concerned with our experience! The food was really good and I would definitely go back.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
We decided to try Sweetsong only because of the location within the hotel that we were staying at, and after reading the reviews, we had VERY LOW expectations. Pleasantly surprised! Our server Nathan was great--greeted us promptly, asked if we had any allergies, and checked on us regularly. The Caesar salad and fried chicken were decently good, the biscuits were hard as rocks and almost completely inedible. Didn't try the cocktails as I felt we were pushing our luck already. Hope that this place continues to do well!

Rick Z.

Yelp
I hate to pile on to all the negativity but when spending this much money on food it's gotta be right. Don't do the crab cake! It's not what you think. Very salty and definitely not fresh crab. Server was good and if you get the right server I think the service portion of the bad reviews goes away. The service from the kitchen however was lacking. Even the bar was slow. Gratuity was added to the check so be careful when you leave. They didn't call it a gratuity on the check it was some kind of a fee. I almost did the double tip! Large groups tend to back up a kitchen and where I think it's awesome to see the cooking staff working it's a detractor to see irate customers go back and try to expedite their orders. We saw two people from a large group try to push their stuff along and when we got our order before theirs they were livid. The restaurant was hot because they must use the hotels ac. Everyone was fanning with the menus!

Yelp
We went for a birthday with a large party and our service was great! Akeyla was so sweet and took care of us. she was very attentive and made our dinner very enjoyable. The food was very fresh and overall we had a great experience.

Seimone L.

Yelp
I flew into Atlanta to meet with my fiance and we stayed at the Westin Marriott in Duluth. Had THEE BEST drinks at the bar after dinner. Make sure you have Belene (our amazing bar tender) make her famous lemon drop martini!! My fiancé absolutely loved his old fashioned! Thank you Belene, 5 stars for sure!!

Nhome W.

Yelp
I visited the restaurant today and may I say the server "Zay" was AMAZING! His customer is out of this world and he is very acknowledgeable about the menu. IMMEDIATELY we were sat with appetizers and drinks. Awesome job! The Baretebder Belene definitely exceeded our expectations. Such a sweet warm soul and knows exactly what she is doing behind the bar! The customer services was beyond exceptional! I will definitely be back in the near future.
