Here goes another 5 stars review... and that's the way to skew your distribution, even when you actively don't want to!! ... but yeah... what can I do?
Swiss International Air Lines definitely deserves 5 stars. I have flown with this company countless times, to various destinations around the world and have never been disappointed. I of course cannot guarantee for each individual's experience, but what I can guarantee is that they are a very serious airline. In case of anything (delay, denying of boarding, rerouting etc.), they will undoubtedly comply with all the regulations and inform the passengers a.s.a.p. It's what people call "Swiss Quality". You pay more, but you have some guarantees which other companies don't give you.
Besides the very nice comfort in the airplane (leather seats and plenty of leg room, unlike KLM or Air France: yak!), the flight attendants are always smiling and, at the end of the meal service, they serve everyone with chocolate! I have been a choco addict for as long as I can remembered and I have quite some strong selective tastes about chocolate, so you should believe me when I say... their chocolate tastes very good! Thin and creamy, doesn't feel like the type of chocolate you get for free on airplanes :) Swiss Quality once more.
Regarding serious stuff: I have had at least 3 important interactions with this airline. I will list them below. Feel free to skip them or why not read on... it's interesting :D
First, a guy I was accompanying and me arrived at Terminal1 for check - in just 35 minutes before the guy's flight (with Swiss Airlines) was scheduled to depart (it was my fault but hey... this doesn't matter here). We were scared as hell, barely breathing from so much running and went straight at the counter. The guy didn't speak English, so I had to speak for him.. Told the lady when his flight was scheduled (I was not departing with him). She almost had a shock, told us it's you know pretty late.. yes, of course we know but what can we do, he really needs to leave now, can we please solve this etc. She then gave couple of phone calls and accepted to check his luggage in, by making a huge exception (she told us). Then she was very direct in telling us that the guy needs to be at the gate in exactly 15 minutes, as the airplane will wait for him. If he doesn't arrive, they won't board his luggage and he will be rescheduled. Miraculously (don't ask me how), the guy managed to do it and he arrived home safely. Point to be taken: there are not many airlines in this world to the counter of which you can appear 35 minutes before the actual departure time and still be accepted to board the plane.
Second, I was flying to Zurich from New Delhi and was supposed to change in Milan. Two weeks prior to my departure, the flight Milan - Zurich was announced to be cancelled, so the third - party company through which I had booked my ticket contacted me for re-routing. We've been exchanging e-mails for one week and they kept offering me very bad alternatives (deviations of 1/2 days from my expected arrival in Zurich). It was super stressful. At some point, after e-mails and phone calls with many Airlines, I decided to contact Swiss. I told them my problem and, in 5 minutes, they solved it by re-scheduling me on a New Delhi - Zurich direct flight, on the exact same day, much faster of course. Everything went smoothly, no problem with the booking nor anything. Customer service also very good.
Third and last, I was once flying to Bucharest and the plane was overbooked. They offered a compensation of 300+ CHF for two passengers who would accept to re-route through VIenna, the entire journey lasting only 2 more hours. I thought it was a nice deal and it was not a problem being couple of hours late in Bucharest, so accepted it. I was then given my personal Swiss staff attendant, that guided me through the airport (for gate change), made sure that my luggage was re-routed as well and gave me the card to cash the money. She was very nice and we had a good conversation time as well. On the flight from Zurich to Vienna, I was even upgraded to Business class, which was great! Food was really tasty, wine selection wonderful and, of course, preferential treatment. I have no idea how that upgrade happened, but it made my day!
Hope I didn't bore you to death with this review... It was just meant to say that Swiss Airlines do offer the legendary Swiss Quality we've all heard of!
