Stayed here for 3 nights and was disappointed by several issues:|-air conditioning: we arrived on a warm July week and the AC was simply not cooling the room. We changed to a different room which was simply the same and so we ended getting a fan to try and cool the room. The interesting thing is that the lounge and the corridors were much cooler than the rooms… this was a major problem . Luckily the weather changed and saved us.|-parking: the hotel doesn’t have a parking garage. When we called they said there was a public garage near by. They forgot to mention it was 8-9 minutes walk and for a fee of 50CHF (!) per 24 hours!|- upgrade:as a titanium Bon Voy member I was told on check-in that I was upgraded to a junior suite only to find out that it was a room with a terrible view of an ugly roof giving a feeling that you weee on street level. The guy at the reception was well aware of that issue but said that he had no other options so we were given a regular room. ( we were told that is still an upgrade since it was a club level room but as Titanium , club is part of the benefits so there was no actual upgrade here). Didn’t feel there was any special care to the fact that we were Titanium. On the web site there was an option to book other suites but the guy at check in gave us a long and not too reasonable explanation to why he couldn’t do it….|-lounge: it is open 24 hours . 5:30-7:30 pm there are supposed to be some warm food but when we arrived at 7pm there was nothing left! The lady there said that “ it was finished”… only after we asked to speak to the supervisor they made some more food as a favor…. By 7:30 everything is gone. You can get soft or warm drinks but later in the evening they don’t even leave cookies or snacks. |On the brighter side :|The room we got was very clean with great housekeeping|We were also lucky to meet Emily at front desk who was super friendly and attentive tried to help us with the AC issue as well as give us recommendations around the city.|All in all, we have been to numerous Marriott hotels around the world and this one was a bit disappointing.

My husband and I stayed here for one night prior to boarding a Viking riverboat cruise which departed from Basel. The hotel is centrally located, just a short walk to the river, and close to shops and a large grocery store. The guest room was spacious, comfortable, and had all the usual amenities. There is a nice gym and spa as well, although we didn’t have time to use them. The staff was friendly and helpful. If I return to Basel I would definitely stay here again.

Incredible place! Great location. The staff went over and above to help us with all aspects of our trip. |Had an amazing night's sleep. The bathroom is spacious and the shower is excellent.|The hotel is a bit pricey but everything in Switzerland is!

With train stop across the street you can’t beat this hotel for convenience. True to the Marriott brand, this hotel lives up to their gracious hospitality with super helpful and friendly staff. ||We had a room on the 6th floor which was small as an upgraded suite. Nonetheless it sufficed for our 3 night stay. The room was clean with a comfy bed and hot shower. ||The hotel’s architecture looked like an updated mid-century modern with octagonal windows. ||The gym and sauna were spacious, especially for a hotel. Lots of variety in treadmills, weights, and other equipment to keep you fit. ||The breakfast buffet is fulfilling with gobs of choices. From French pastries to made to order eggs, the buffet has stations for juices, cheeses, hot dishes, cereals and coffee drinks. ||As a titanium elite member we had access to the M Club as well as the breakfast buffet. The executive club is a bit tight given the size of the hotel. We arrived too late for the evening snacks that ended at 19:30. ||Overall, the hotel is well appointed with an exceptional staff.

This hotel is exceptionally clean and well appointed. The staff is courteous and helpful. The bar service was very good. The breakfast and service in the restaurant was fabulous. The location next to the Congress center was perfect for my business travel. The location was great and walking distance to the city hall and shopping. Overall, a very nice experience. Rooms were clean and modern.

Good location and pretty central to anything you would want to see in Basel. The hotels provide a tram card to make your navigation of the city easier which is nice. The staff was friendly and please note this hotel is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from the zurich airport.

Google
Fantastic hotel, great rooms, superb front desk operations. Sven was just awesome in his service orientation and gave us a great recommendation to have fondue at Walliser Kanne and also got us a reservation. He deserves more than 5 stars. Good recognition of Titanium status and great breakfast at Heritage.

Yelp
Who would design a bathroom with the toilet smack dab behind the door??? Location is convenient for business people who might have to attend something at the Exhibition Square, but it requires a tram ride to get to the main part of the city and to walk along the Rhine River. However, a transportation pass is provided by the hotel and the tram stop is either on the corner (#14) or across the street (#6). Both get you to the town center. There is no evening turn down service so we had to request extra towels and a roll of toilet paper. Staff is very friendly and the breakfast that was included was okay. Unfortunately, dining al fresco is a problem everywhere because smoking is just soooooooooooooooooo chic in Europe. They must have some special deal with Tauck because the ending cruise people were there at the same time that the beginning cruise people were there.

Yelp
The hotel was great stayed there after a Viking cruise late December of this year. The room was on the 5th floor and it was big, clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. The hotel was well managed and the restaurant's food was fabulous and service great. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 was because my room overlooked the roof of the lower portion of the hotel and I was too tired to from my trip to move to a new room.

Yelp
This review is for the hotel itself. I've spent several weeks staying here and have found the service to be impeccable - they are always friendly, accommodating, and helpful when you need something extra. The rooms are very clean (although the size can vary quite a bit and some do need updating) and the beds are comfortable. The downstairs restaurant (see review) is fantastic for both breakfast and dinner, and room service is higher in quality than it really needs to be. Overall, a nice place to stay when you're in Basel.

Yelp
We were given unlimited use passes for the trams and lots of tips and suggestions to make the most of our visit. The staff was extremely helpful. The location is central and the Messeplatz tram station is just outside the hotel. At the end of our stay, we took the clean and efficient public transport to the airport. Our room was clean, featured a large tub and decent wifi. We were impressed and would stay here again. Our room, 328, was at the end of the hotel furthest from the tram stops and street noise was never an issue.

Yelp
Clean, spacious, centrally-located. Overall, a good experience. Was impressed by the room and bed size, which were large by European standards, average by US standards. The room was well-appointed, however the TV was difficult to figure out how to use (a note saying you have to hit the "Pay TV" button would have helped) and there were no English-speaking/transmitting channels. The Air Conditioning struggled to keep the room cool and completely failed in the gym. Totally inadequate cooling in the fitness area, although the fitness center is pretty fabulous! The breakfast buffet was generous and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, yet not flexible in making changes to reservations (part of my trip was personal, over a weekend, and they refused to even look up the possibility of reducing the rate of my room to the weekend rate, let alone cancel the last two nights, even a week in advance).

Yelp
Great place!! Excellent food, lovely employees & big modern clean rooms! Highly recommendable for everyone :) And btw, your transportation ticket for basel is included! Additionally: Free wifi, 24hrs service & great location!

Yelp
I agree with the previous review. The Swissotel is a pretty nice stay. I've always found the concierge and front desk personnel very friendly and very helpful. They do not hesitate to assist with my flight check-in, provide directions to nearby destinations, recommend good restaurants, etc. While a little pricey, the breakfast buffet is top notch and offers nice selection of hot and cold foods. The steak house at the hotel is also pretty good, and a good default restaurant if you cant decide where to eat. I have always found the rooms to be clean and beds to be comfortable. And the location cant be beat as its right across from the convention center and walking distance from Roche and Novartis (if traveling for business) and the downtown area for shopping and good eats/drinks/museums. For work or for pleasure, I'd definitely stay here again.

Yelp
At CHF200+, this is the worst 5-star hotel ever! The room is so noisy that I am writing this at 6am while still staying at the hotel, but what else is there to do when you've been woken up for an hour by the sound of the trams which is so loud that you might as well be laying directly on the tracks. This doesn't help when there were people talking in front until wee hours of the night. Given window has zero sound proofing, obviously it sounded like drunk people having a shouting match. To add salt to the wounds, the room stinks like cigarette smell covered by some scent-absolving chemical. I think this hotel has been spoiled by its business account with Roche. Time to shake things up and start telling everyone at work to take the business elsewhere!
