The reviews were NOT wrong! Excellent food, service, & atmosphere! Coffee is free and delicious with your meal plus home fries come with numerous dishes! After being in Bar Harbor and paying $15.99 for 2 pancakes with NOTHING… Sylvia’s was a much needed down to earth delicious place to eat!

SKIP THE DUNKIN GO HERE !!! Wow I am so glad I diverted ! Was such a lovely and inviting place. The BEST blueberry pancakes I’ve ever had ! My coffee was kept full and hot! Wish I could come again, so welcoming to a stinky tired traveler.

Small diner in the strip mall. Best breakfast you will ever have hands down. Fresh, real corned beef hash.

We came here during our vacation earlier today. I love this place. It's the best breakfast place I've been to. The food was very good, the portions were good sized, and the food was priced very well. The food came out very quickly despite how busy it was. I loved the homemade corned beef hash. You can tell the owner cares about their restaurant.

Had planned on going somewhere else this morning but when we got there it was extremely busy. I remembered Sylvia's cafe was close by so i took the grandkids to Sylvia's. We only waited a couple minutes to be seated. Everything was absolutely delicious! The toast was homeade which was very exciting to me. The kids wanted dessert and tried cinnamon bun bread pudding, strawberry shortcake, and strawberry apple pie. Everyone went home with full belly's. We will definitely be back.

We are passing through on our way back to Massachusetts and stopped at Sylvia’s Cafe, breakfast all day, lunch and takeout in Ellsworth, ME. We got the #8 with scrambled, French toast, sausage and home fries. The portions are very generous and tasty! Our waitress was very attentive and nice too!

While traveling through the area, we decided to grab some breakfast and then popped into Sylvia’s Cafe without knowing what to expect. It was a Saturday, and the place was packed, but the wait was worth it! We put our name on the waiting list, and it was about a 20 min wait. Although the restaurant is located in a shopping strip, once you walk inside, you feel transported. From the beautiful mural in the back of the restaurant to the many Maine-themed posters, it all made us feel so cozy. Service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The extensive menu had a bit of all, from burgers to biscuits and gravy and - of course - all of your breakfast classics. Prices were excellent; most of the breakfast dishes also included coffee. I went with the #1 breakfast special, and it was SO much food: 3 types of meat, eggs, French toast, and potatoes. Pro-tip: upgrade your potatoes for $1.99 to include cheese, peppers, and onions. It was delicious! My partner had the biscuits and gravy and loved it as well. We can’t wait to return once we’re back in the area!

Stopped on a whim. The food was very very good… we had the omelette, haddock fish sandwich and a Ruben sandwich… our waitress was very kind… and both her and her mother had a beautiful sense of humor.. we look forward to returning for another visit soon…

Yelp
got on the road later and hungrier than we'd hoped and Sylvia's was the first place we saw that was even remotely inviting. Sylvia's is typical of space in a multi-use building made to look safe for dining: big windows facing the parking lot and along the interior hallway, kitschy swag and signage and a too-big-and-bright mural of the area. efficient and friendly if not exceptional waitresses, serves breakfast, lunch, and breakfast for lunch so yeah, it's a diner... casual seating out front, chairs and tables in two rooms inside. hot black coffee in abundance; not too thin, not too weak, not too old so not too bad ;-) corned beef hash, taters, and two eggs up came out soon enough, a bit of a wait for the toast though; whites were set with the yolks bright and shiny, homefries were basic and could have used a shake of something seasonal, hash was a bit fine for scratch-made but the potato chunks were a nice touch.

Yelp
We arrived early thank goodness as I can see this place filling up fast for breakfast. The waitress was quick and friendly!! We started with a home made cinnamon roll, wicked good!!! I got the pumpkin pancakes, they were perfect!! You get 2 stacks, which I only could finish half of them, very filling! My husband got eggs, sausage, home fries and home made toast. Our waitress made sure of coffee was refilled. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Average at best and super busy. The waitress was nice but the food was nothing to write home about. A surcharge for eggs.... I think that's odd instead of just raising the prices. Asked how long our wait would be and was told they had no clue......

Yelp
Driving from Acadia, looking for home style breakfast before my flight back to Jersey. So...this review comes from a person who grew up in the diner capital and I guess I have high standards. The Place was clean and decorated, and comfy. Service very nice but very slow. Reason for 3 stars ( my lowest rating in awhile) was the food. Burnt coffee. Dry cold toast. Nasty "homemade" corned beef hash ( the hallmark of many a good diner). Not that I'll be in the area anytime soon, but would not return.

Yelp
Nothing extraordinary but overall good service, a long wait for tables on Memorial Day weekend Sunday morning. The portion sizes are big we had #3 sunny side up with bacon, ham, sausage and home fries, a lobster omelet and a kids pancake and sausage, the combo came with drinks. Lobster omlette was ok a bit creamy with generous portions of lobster added. There are a few bar chairs too in case tables are unavailable. The wait time was close to 40 mins so recommendations would be to avoid peak time. A homely breakfast nook in the heart of Ellsworth might worth a visit, we got our recommendation also from our Airbnb owner.

Yelp
Wonderful! I have been eating haddock sandwiches from Boston up the coast and this one is by far the best!

Yelp
This place is 'slammed' for good reason! It was worth the 10-15 min. wait on Sat. a.m. because the food & service are THE BEST!

Yelp
Delicious, affordable, attentive service, family-friendly ambience. Everything was awesome.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast during our stay in Maine. Our waitress was super friendly and great customer service. We were seated fairly quickly less then five min wait. We tried their biscuits and gravy w home fries and the blueberry stuffed french toast with real maple syrup. It was delicious! Recommend both! We also tried their pumpkin spice coffee which also was delicious. It's a very cozy mom and pop café feel. If you are looking for a traditional breakfast place stop here!

Lena K.

Yelp
Great service breakfast place! Place looks very small from outside plaza but it's actually has a very reasonable space! Delicious breakfast was served promptly. Was happy to try Maine baked beans. French toast is absolutely mouth watering! Great job!

Jill K.

Yelp
Great breakfast food! Large portions at a reasonable price. Service was timely and hospitable.

Casey M.

Yelp
Nice breakfast joint. Friendly staff and good food and service. Cornbeef was very good

Yelp
Great food at a great price. I'm spending a couple of days here on a trip from California and will definitely eat here again. Food and service top notch, couldn't be happier.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the Strip Mall location, Sylvia's is a great place to eat Breakfast or Lunch. As we walked in, the sight and smell of Blueberry pancakes and crispy bacon was heavenly. We came for lunch, my husband had the special Fried Haddock sandwich, which he loved. I was looking for something different - no gluten and low carb. They did not have gluten free choices, but they offered a salad. I asked if I could have protein, and she said they could make me a chef salad. It was a very simple salad, but it came with thick chunks of ham from their ham steak and thick chunks of roasted chicken. They even had a homemade blue cheese dressing that was light and flavorful. Most people had heaps of fresh fried foods, or amazing looking/smelling breakfasts, but I thoroughly enjoyed my salad.

Yelp
It's the out of the way and small places that are great!! The breakfast special crabmeat omelette!! OMG!!! Staff and service was on point!! Hand sanitizers were at the entrance of the restaurant and encouraged to be used prior to entering. Diners were social distancing and sitting 6-ft apart from others. Employees were wearing their masks. Despite these obstacles the service and the food were excellent!!

Yelp
Sylvia's café has the best breakfast I've ever had! They have homemade baked beans and homemade bread. Breakfast are to die for love, this place!

Yelp
Quint essential hometown cafe. Americana is well represented at Sylvia's. Enjoyed a great breakfast and some good old fashioned home cooking.

Yelp
Their staff was the perfect mix of helpful and sassy, my favorite. We got the number one and split it. It has two of the following: eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, one piece of ham and home fries. Immediately we upgraded to blueberry pancakes (DO IT!!), doubled the home fries on our 2nd visit since they were insanely delicious, we also added onions and peppers to the home fries and had them cook them up crispy. Spend the $1.50 for the real maple syrup or bring your own. In fact, we thought that the $1.50 syrup was only enough for one pancake and needed 2 each day we ate there. HANDS DOWN the best meal we ate out in Ellsworth.

Renee J.

Yelp
Came here and sign says "not open for the whole week."Sucks! Drive 20 mikes to eat here. I guess this is business in Maine. Will look someplace else and move on.
google avatar

Brianna W.

Yelp
Awesome little cafe. Excellent service from Beth and other staff. Food was delicious. Enjoyed watching the parade of food coming out of the open kitchen, everything looked so good! Decided on the meat lover's omelet and made it a grilled wrap for $1.50 extra - comes with sour cream and salsa. I'd do without the wrap next time, it was too much with the home fries, but no regrets!

Yelp
This spot is on the way to Acadia national park and we needed a quick bite to eat before the hiking. We got the oven roasted turkey sandwich. I was expecting the turkey slices to be a bit thinner but they were pretty thick chunks. The sandwich was good but nothing special. It has a lot of mayo too. This is a good spot to swing by if you need a quick lunch before visiting Acadia.

Yelp
Stopped in on the way to Acadia & was kindly greeted by the hostess. Our waitress, Beth, was such a doll & her pretty smile was just as sweet as her happy attitude which is a big deal being from the South. The coffee was hot, food came out pretty quickly & was delish! If we ever make it back up this way we'll definitely be stopping by again. Hats off to the cook, Beth, & team for a great start to the day & another awesome vacation memory!

Yelp
Our server was so friendly. She was full of smiles and laughs. After having a previous day with too much rich food, I opted for the oatmeal with raisins. It came with brown sugar and milk. My husband ordered the campfire pancakes which contained bacon. Our server brought him plenty of butter. The coffee was good and the place felt welcoming.

Cindy G.

Yelp
Simple, homemade breakfast. The wild blueberry pancakes were light, fluffy and full of fresh blueberries. Great food at a great price. Highly recommended
google avatar

Felicia P.

Yelp
Yummy!! I had an excellent turkey-only Monte Cristo, and my husband had a cheese steak omelet, which was overflowing with meat and veggies. The service was friendly, though the food took a while, like 25 minutes. We liked this place, though!!
google avatar

E H.

Yelp
Great service, great omelettes, good coffee and lots of local color. The home fries were real from potatoes and the OJ was tasty.

M F.

Yelp
Nope! Hard pass on the service Should've looked at it better before we tried it Xxxxxxxx.

Yelp
So thankful for Yelp in times like these! Found Sylvia's while browsing Yelp on our vacation to Acadia! What a perfect stop for delicious and inexpensive food! The diner is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. We walked in and sat ourselves and were immediately asked our beverage order. Unfortunately, they were out of crab so we couldn't get the crab roll but that didn't mean the rest of our food wasn't scrumptious! Hand carved meat, hand battered onion rings, and plentiful serving sizes had me full at the end of my meal! This is a must stop for anyone traveling to the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food, staff and prices. Highly recommend. They have a wide selection of food, all home cooked,

Yelp
Wow this place was just what I was looking for with my mom at the end of our trip! Coffee was fantastic, I had french toast with berries and syrup and it was so delicious. Fast, friendly service can't be beat.

Yelp
Great place. Several days in this area visiting Acadia np. We ate breakfast here three times and was very pleased each time. Great service in a clean comfortable homey setting. Family ran and waitresses I bet are long timers.... Super Capable efficient thorough at their job with just enough friendliness without being bothersome Food is out quick even when busy. We were a pretty early but they can have a line form as morning progresses. People cleaned their plates or asked for take out containers if unable to finish. I know I finished my scrambler plate later one morning and even cold it was tasty. Well worth hunting this gem down at the mill mall....

Yelp
We were looking for a perfect breakfast and Sylvia's did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked eggs and omelet- French Toast was light and fluffy. Biscuits and gravy reminded me of my Mother's. It was a bit of a drive from our campground but we'll worth every mile.

Yelp
Stopped by here once on the way to Acadia National Park. I ordered the oven roasted turkey sandwich with a side of chips to go. The sandwich was pretty good, very heavy on the turkey. The staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Daffodil C.

Yelp
Amazing, friendly service and delicious fresh food. Baked goods were amazing, corned beef hash is home made, eggs perfectly cooked. Even the toast was good! Breakfast combos include coffee. Just a great all-around experience.

Jim S.

Yelp
A must stop for breakfast after leaving Mount Desert Island. Do yourself a favor and get the crab omelette. Great service and one of the best breakfasts you'll ever have.

Tammy S.

Yelp
First time here. Visiting from Texas. Had an amazing loaded omelette with home fries and blueberry muffin. Sweet little café Beth was our waitress she did a great job! If I lived in this area I would come to this little café every day.
google avatar

Rob S.

Yelp
Nice cafe! Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The breakfast as awesome! (Wonderful blueberry pancakes). Nice and clean.

Tyler W.

Yelp
First time customer and will definitely be back in the future I love the laid back vibes in here Our food was really good and our server Beth was great!

Mike and Angie L.

Yelp
Biscuits and gravy were wonderful. My wife got a Belgian waffle but it didn't have strawberries or wiped cream guess you have to ask for it.

A C.

Yelp
Inside mostly locals, a few tourists like us leaving town. Crab omelet was great. Biscuits and gravy were good - exactly what I expected in a good way. Pancakes were good. Fruit on the side had sugar on it - reminder to ask for plain next time. Our waitress was wanting - tired and unfriendly, and also forgetful. Would come again for a convenient breakfast coming from/going to Acadia.

Yelp
What a great breakfast this morning at Sylvia's Cafe in the mini mall !! Great food, great service and plenty of parking especially for the those who are traveling and pulling or driving big rigs !! Don't miss a visit here when you are in the area!!

Jean M.

Yelp
We four had breakfast at one of their four outdoor picnic tables. Service was great and fast. Lots of people coming do "to go." Hash really is home made and delicious. Stuffed French toast was soooo gooood. Tasty omelet all with large complimentary coffee. Not greasy!!! Great place. Add a fancy plate and a chi chi garnish you could be at a NY hotel. We'll return whenever we can.

Susan V.

Yelp
Standard diner fare. Nothing fancy. My blueberry French toast was a bit bland and the blueberry topping was ice cold. Someone else had the homemade sausage gravy and biscuits which was very good. Belgian waffle was soggy. Dishes seemed hot or miss and coffee was just okay.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Many staff members were not wearing masks. Tables felt too close together to be socially distanced. Service was extremely slow despite it not being very busy. With all of the high reviews, I was expecting much better. Pretty disappointed.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Great food, quick friendly service. A great breakfast place with plenty of food choices. The blueberry stuffed French toast was crisp and tasty, not too sweet. Portions are great, some items like French toast, pancakes and eggs you can choose how many you want and all with a mound of home fries on our plates . We have visited on each of our trips to this area and are never disappointed.
google avatar

Vickie C.

Yelp
Great local place. Lots of local people here both mornings we were there. Breakfast was well cooked and definitely filling.
google avatar

Nichole M.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. We come here every year when we visit bar harbor for breakfast and it is by far the best breakfast we have ever had. They cook their egg dishes perfectly and the staff is always more than friendly. Highly recommend!

Brian D.

Yelp
On reflection, I think it a 3.5 star place. For lunch the other day we had iced tea, we came back for breakfast and the coffee was just ok My wife had a monticristo which was nice but my corned beef hash was average Hence the down grade
