Syracuse Museum of Puppets

We had a great time making authentic Sicilian puppets at a puppet making workshop and learning about the life of a Siracusan puppeteer. Our young teacher, Paolo, is also a puppeteer at the theater, and it was fun to learn about his projects and how he because a puppeteer. This took place in the amazing little workshop space across the street, the workshop of the actual puppet theater. We started by painting the head and legs, then traced and cut out metal armor, and finally watched helped as the team finished the assembly. No prior art experience required, but be sure to let your creativity flow and try something a little different! Highly recommend, young or old. The museum is small but fascinating. If you’re interested I recommend a 30-45 minute visit.

Far more dramatic, entertaining, and well produced than I thought it would be. Went in expecting Punch & Judy, ended up with an Italian telenovela with beautiful puppets and scenery. The stories told are a few centuries old, so don't expect contemporary sentiments, but the themes are pretty universal - love, betrayal, heartbreak, family, death. Overall, a lovely evening and beautiful representation of Syracusan history.

Its good if you like the object of puppets but its very small and about 15 minutes to walk it all

Spectacular museum, the experience was very nice, the history was beautiful I loved this place

€12 to see this then see the puppet performance down the road at the Puppet Theatre. The whole experience thankfully stopped my alcohol consumption for at least an hour. The signs in the museum are translated and understandable but with some humorous errors. The puppet master being taken on by Disney was an interesting chapter!

Small but thoughtful museum with interesting and informative historical exhibits. Would be neat to see a theater performance if time allows

An absolutely delightful, engaging hour of entertainment. A young “cast” of puppeteers do a wonderful job of creating drama accessible to all. The script is of course in Italian, but the movement of the puppets and the terrific synopsis of the story at the begging make it all very clear. It is something akin to opera buffo, soap opera, and tragi-comedy with emphasis on the laughter. Loved the cliffhanger of an ending. Truly one of the more enjoyable moments in beautiful Siracusa.
