28 Places Our Travel Specialists Say You Should Go in 2019

"There’s Syros, the unknown capital of the islands, where you’ll see its beautiful 19th-century waterfront, eat great food, go to the opera in the jewel of an opera house that was the prototype for La Scala."

Stunningly beautiful island, filthy beaches, dirty water. Shockingly rude staff and terrible service all around the island- in every aspect- hotel employees, taxi drivers, waiters, sales personnel- in Ermoupoli and the villages also. For seven days there and tons of our money spent there, there were exactly 3 businesses in total that did good job servicing us. Visibly different- much better treatment- for the US/Canadian tourist. Greek tourists were visibly not welcomed on this island. I have travelled to so many of the Greek island and never have seen such thing- EVER. My Greek husband was beyond shocked.

My favourite island for winter and summer holidays! Ermoupoli the capital of Syros is a Neoclassical architecture monument. Lovely ancient unmediated landscape and a medieval walled monument city of Ano Syros. Great food, lots if lovely contemporary stores, elegant establishments. Need to visit for 5-10 days to get a taste of the while island especially in the summer! All photos are from Ermoupoli this winter!

I LOVED Syros and I'm not saying this lightly. -why visit? : Magnificent island, you should definitely visit if you like a combination of beautiful nature, picturesque scenery, but not something very quiet and secluded. Syros has it all. -"Musts" : Don't forget to visit Ano Chora, so picturesque and beautiful with an amazing view and it's worth getting a tour guide there to explain its history, it's incredibly fascinating but also to not get lost, since it was build that way for that purpose ;) . Be sure to explore Ermoupoli, Apollo Theater and some of the beautiful both catholic and orthodox churches. - food : for lunch I recommend the tavern "Ta Giannena" for amazing and affordable food. For brunch try "Siesta" great food and very friendly staff. Don't forget to try "Chalvadopita"

Surprisingly, I found Syros one of the best Greek islands, although it is holiday destination for Greek people from mainland, as a tourist you find more attractions, almost every night you can find a live music night, you just join local people's dance and experience Greek summer.. turquoiseblue, clean beaches, local cuisine... you can different category of hotels, luxury design hotels, local family hotels ..All were excellent...

Syros is a unique island!Ermoupoli is a very big city. There are so many things to see-from the port, through the square with pigeons, continuing through the narrow alleys up to Ano Syros!Ano Syros is absolutely fantastic up on a hill near the clouds.Place full of history. You cant describe it,you have to go and feel it.We travelled round the whole island. There are so nice beaches-Azolimnos,Vary,Megali Gialos,Poseidonia. All of them perfect for relax. The sea is warm, clean with deep blue water and many yahts and boats.I am very impressed by the island.Deffinitey recommend it.
