A Steakhouse Worth the Journey
In September, my wife and I were passing through Cheyenne, and like any self-respecting travelers, we found ourselves at a bar watching Clemson play. Naturally, we asked the bartender the all-important question: "Where's the best steak in town?" Without hesitation, he pointed us to T-Joe's Steakhouse & Saloon.
Now, he did mention it was a few miles up the highway at a truck stop, which honestly gave me a moment of pause. A truck-stop steakhouse? But hey, he seemed pretty confident, so we rolled the dice. My wife called ahead to make a reservation (which we probably didn't need), and we were off.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place was special. We were greeted warmly by the owner and shown to our table, and let me tell you, when I saw the menu, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I wanted one of everything--it all sounded incredible. After a moment of restraint (and maybe a little self-talk), I settled on the Black and Blue Prime Rib, medium-rare. The waitress politely warned me they could only promise medium, but they'd do their best. My wife went with the Filet Mignon and a cup of their French Onion Soup.
The salads and soup arrived, and they were solid--a promising start. Then the main event landed. My prime rib was a sight to behold. Cutting into it, I discovered to my utter joy that it was medium-rare. I took my first bite, making sure to get plenty of blackened seasoning and blue cheese in there, and... OH MY LORD. My taste buds threw a party, complete with fireworks and a marching band. It was tender, juicy, and almost illegally good.
I may or may not have gripped the table for support during this flavor explosion. Just as I was contemplating how to make this meal last forever, the owner stopped by to check in. I couldn't help but rave about the blackened seasoning, and when I asked where they got it, she revealed they make it in-house. Then, to my delight, she brought me a container to take home--on the house. Who does that anymore? T-Joe's, apparently.
Yes, it's a steakhouse at a truck stop, but don't let that fool you. This place punches way above its weight class. If you're ever near Cheyenne, do yourself a favor and stop at T-Joe's. You'll leave happy, full, and maybe even clutching a container of their magical seasoning. Highly recommend!
