This National Park Has 2 Volcanos, Hot Springs, and Scenic Hiking Trails — and Now Is the Best Season to Visit

"These hot springs are bisected by a thermal river that’s heated by the nearby active volcano, offering a natural, river-fed hot-water experience shaped directly by volcanic activity." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. This was a seminal life experience. The resort has curated an exceptionally thoughtful, beautiful and finely wrought encounter with an element of nature unlike any other. Our dining experience was just as exceptional as the waters, and the service was attentive to dietary restrictions and any other stated preferences. The food was delicious with excellent variety of options flawlessly prepared. I simply cannot recommend Tabacon in terms strong enough. It is a moment in time I will always cherish.

This was one of favorite things about Costa Rica. I thought it would be more crowded but we almost always had an area/pool all to ourselves. The resort is very clean and beautifully maintained. The restaurant was wonderful and everyone was very nice. We can’t wait to come back again.

Talk about awesome! This place is the most relaxing, gorgeous place I've ever been. The spa was incredible. The thermal springs were so relaxing. Everything was just awesome. Friendly people, friendly and helpful staff and gorgeous springs!

Great facility. The facility is huge so we can find a space where we can be alone and relax. I also lived the bar in the water. They serve great cocktails though pricey at $20. It’s worth it. You can leave your valuables in the locker and take shower before and after the spa. You can spend a whole day there. The fee was $99/person for a day pass but it was worth it.

We spent an entire day, from morning to night, at Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were mesmerized by the lush tropical surroundings, with vibrant greenery and the soothing sounds of flowing water creating a peaceful, almost dreamlike atmosphere. The natural hot springs, heated by the Arenal Volcano, were divided into several sections, each offering a unique experience. Some pools had stronger currents, while others were calm and perfect for relaxation. One of the highlights was the grand thermal river, where we could sit under cascading waterfalls and feel the warm, mineral-rich water ease away all tension. The temperature of the pools varied, allowing us to move from comfortably warm to almost steamy waters, each providing a different level of relaxation and rejuvenation. As the day turned into night, the resort transformed into an even more magical place. Soft lights illuminated the pathways, and the warm steam rising from the water created an enchanting, mystical effect. Soaking in the hot springs under the starlit sky, surrounded by the sounds of nature, was a truly surreal and peaceful experience. Tabacón was not just a visit—it was a journey into a natural paradise where relaxation and beauty came together in the most perfect way.

We absolutely love Tabacon Hot Springs. The hot springs water is fantastic! The poolside food service is excellent. Steam coming off of the water when it rains looks beautiful. There are plenty of private pools to enjoy as well as a swim up bar.

What a great experience! We visited the hot springs with a day pass and enjoyed every moment of it. The area exists out of small river that runs down a hill. It splits and comes back together in a few places and all the streams run parallel through the area. There are mary waterfalls, small pools and spots to hang out of different depths. All floors and walls of the pools/rivers consist out of natural volcanic stone. Everything is connected by stylish paths and the bar in the pool is brilliant. The temperature fluctuates inbetween 35 and 38 degrees Celsius and feels natural without any detergents. At the poolsbar they serve a range of very original cocktails, staff is friendly, pool is clean. Due to the many pools, luch vegetation and winding paths you get a unique feeling of small hidden places. Compared to other hot springs in the area, Tabacon is by far the best you will find.
