A small, traditional hostal perched inside Cuenca’s historic center, where steep streets are part of the experience and gravity is never optional. Location is excellent. You are within easy walking distance of the old town highlights, viewpoints, and restaurants, with the famous hanging houses reminding you that urban planning used to be far more adventurous.
Thank goodness for the staff who waited for us for check in as we arrived around 6pm. Genuinely appreciated and handled with patience and warmth. If you are arriving late, communicate with the hostal in advance, it makes all the difference and avoids unnecessary stress.
The hostal itself is simple and honest. Rooms are clean, neat, and functional, with no unnecessary decoration trying to distract you from the fact that you are here to explore one of Spain’s most dramatic cities. A surprising bonus, the toilet has a small balcony with a view, which feels slightly absurd and oddly delightful at the same time.
We were the only tourists staying at the hostal in November, which added to the quiet, almost private atmosphere. Parking is on the street about 30 meters away, convenient by old town standards and very manageable.
Verdict. Practical, well located, and comfortable. Hostal Tabanqueta is a solid base for discovering Cuenca, especially if you value simplicity, calm, and a touch of unexpected charm.
