Stopped by on a busy Friday night without a reservation but they found a spot for us. Our waitress was very friendly and had a sense of humor. I ordered salad as a starter followed by cocido as my main course. Our waitress said “No! It’s too much!”. I cancelled the salad. When the food arrived it was an absolute massive amount of food but I ate all of it because it was the most comforting and delicious food for a chilly winter night in Madrid.

It was a wonderful experience to end out trip in Madrid. Excellent service. Great food. Will definitely visit again. ✨

I pre booked for dinner, and we arrived to an empty restaurant. We sat for a little longer than we should have before we were asked about drinks. We asked the waiter a question about the menu and he literally walked away without answering! My friend and I were incredulous. Luckily the second waiter was very good, and answered our questions. The starter we shared was codfish fritters and it was really good. unfortunately the sirloin was very fatty and my avocado salad was just a quartered avocado with parmesan on top. Very expensive for what it was.We enjoyed the sloping stairs to and from the toilet, this place is very old. No real atmosphere to speak of though. We got off the metro at Lavapies and walked here, I don't recommend it, bit of a dodgy area.

An absolute gem in Madrid! Eating at Taberna Antonio Sanchez feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is historic and cozy, but the food is the real star. We had the Cocido Completo and the Lamb Chops, and both were cooked to perfection. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and very professional. If you want an authentic Spanish dining experience with high-quality ingredients and great wine (the Loess Inspiration was a perfect match), this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

THE OLDEST TABERNA IN MADRID, WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1757. THE ATMOSPHERE IS PERFECT, YOU FEEL AS IF YOU ARE IN 1757. THE WAITER MS. MATIA WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL, CHEERFUL AND PERFECT SERVICE SPECIAL THANKS TO HER.

Very cozy place and perfect local food - the style like tavernas but dishes looks and taste like in restaurants. Be careful with offering you a bread-one slice will cost you 3 eur (the waiter didin’t inform about it).

Love this! Go here if you want delicious, well priced food that locals eat! We've been to Spain a few times and a local acquaintance recommended this. We went twice during our stay, not something we usually do! The food was absolutely delicious with generous portions and high quality ingredients. They also have an extensive list of wines by the glass, which was a great surprise. The waiters were exceptionally helpful with recommendations and explaining dishes we weren't familiar with. The menu is a great mix of classics and newer dishes (the grilled avocados were unexpectedly amazing!) and the tavern has been around since the 1700's carrying the official plaque outside the door in the sidewalk. I'm not sure how this could ever get less than 5 stars!

Every item we had was very good. We were expecting a good steak, we ordered beef & a seafood dish, the steak was outstanding; one of the best I've had in a very long time. That said, our calamari was very good as well. The staff was very helpful & kind, as we don't speak Spanish unfortunately. The atmosphere obviously is legit old world Madrid. We really enjoyed our experience.

Average at best. The only reason to go is to say you have had a drink at the oldest bar in Madrid. Service and food were average at best.

I really love this place. I've been here twice, the first time casually passing it around lunch time. Surprisingly, it hadn't been crowded. We are frequently in Madrid and have made it a mission to find all the good places to eat. This one is a keeper. The food is delicious, service was good and the atmosphere is authentic. I've had the croquettes, octopus, callos, artichokes with quail eggs, not to mention the desserts which are great. Give it a try if you really want a taste of authentic SOS ish good.

We learned about this place by watching James Blick of Devour Tours on you tube. He and his wife are entertaining in their descriptions and suggestions in Spain. He highly recommended this place. We made a point of getting a reservation. We were very pleased with the whole experience. The old tavern style restaurant is still nice and comfortable inside. The staff were all very attentive. The food was outstanding. The oxtail was the big hit. ( as James Suggested). Our other entrees were all expertly prepared and presented. We had a wonderful family event. What a highlight of our Madrid visit.

Definitely worth a visit when in Madrid. The food and service are excellent. This is the oldest Tavern in Madrid. I would be back for sure.

Never have I experienced a more rude approach ! We came for dinner and was seated. Menus were delivered in Spanish which is fair enough. We asked if they had a translated menu. Nope. The waiter spoke perfect English and wasn't busy at all. He wouldn't bother translating the menu items for us. We ended up just paying for the two glasses of wine and had to leave because we were completely ignored. Unless you read Spanish: Don't go there. Rude and ignorant staff completely ignoring you if you dare to enter the place not speaking Spanish.

Excellent food and service, well worth the visit to the oldest Tavern/ restaurant in Madrid. Enjoyed all 3 dishes and the desert.

This restaurant helps retain a little of I classify as "classic Spain". It's dark wooden interior absorbs a lot of light, just like a tavern's ought to. Its bar is a couple hundred years old, its register is an old yellow metal...a bull's head hangs on the wall, and the place was in fact founded by an ex-bullfighter (or so it says on an old plaque inside). We've tried some of the meats and of course the potatoes are some of the best we've had in Madrid. The wait staff is friendly (we speak Spanish) and the prices fall in the lower-middle range if you eat Spanish-style: ordering a few plates and sharing them while sipping drinks.

A historical place a must visit in Madrid a truly nice classical Tapas Bar with the ambiance of a neighborhood bar. Lots of options tapas menu!!
