Taberna do Gabão

We came to Taberna do Gabao on the last day of our Fisherman’s Trail hike and were lucky to get one of the few remaining tables. From the start, the atmosphere felt welcoming and special. We ordered the carne de porco à alentejana, grilled black pork, and feijoada rica. Our server kindly suggested bringing them out one at a time, which made the experience even better. Each dish was full of depth and care—you could taste the rosemary, the clams, the tenderness of the pork. My husband and I looked at each other and said, “This might be the best meal of our lives.” We also got a glimpse of the happy energy in the kitchen. Sylvia, the matriarch, even stepped outside with us to show a candlelit procession for Fatima in the village. That moment, like the whole meal, felt so personal. At the end, we thanked Sylvia and Marta, who introduced us to the chef and team. It felt like being welcomed into a family, and you can truly taste that in the food. Thank you for the most unforgettable meal of our trip and one we will cherish all our lives.

Very nice restaurant in this little town, worth a detour from your route! We stumbled into it for chance… or luck! The service was so good, the waitress was very kind, with a great knowledge of English, she explained perfectly the varied tipical menu (even suggestions on digesting times XD)! We were delighted by the great food, both in quantity and quality, and every now and then they came to check on us, sitting in a little sunny but wind breezed dehor. Even the chef! Finally we overstayed, bellies overflowing of food and wine… but they kindly let us, keeping open till 4 pm just for us. A review was much owed! Thanks for all the great vibezs! [ Oh and abou the prices… entries, main (i mean… really could be your main and side!), 2 bottles of wine, coffee and shots: 40€ each ]

Fantastic restaurant. Excellent food and very friendly staff. The tuna steak was awesome, and the other food we ordered was too!

We had the Arroz de Tamboril- Monkfish rice- which we enjoyed. Our waitress spoke perfect English and was keen to recommend dishes which made for a great experience.

We walked in by chance and it was lovely. The salmon was perfect and their signature dish (porc cubes with clams) was delicious. On top of that the home made dessert is highly recommended!

We went to this restaurant twice in a week and it was excellent both time. The black pork was so good I had it both times. Service is friendly and multi lingual. It can get very busy so turn up early. It’s probably 1-2€ more than the other restaurants in the town but really worth it.

Great place and very friendly team with a very dedicated chef with many stories to tell. The feijoada de polvo e choco is to die for although it might be a bit heavy for sensitive stomachs! Great food overall and good value for money. They only accept cash though which is not very convenient considering the restaurant’s location.

could be a nice place, but the owner is far away from professional. asked for oil and vinegar he responds that the salad is already well prepared. insisting on oil, he finally got it from the neighbour table, and the oil had an expiry date 2 years overdue. apart from other incompetencies, the price is quite high for what it is. won't visit again for sure

Best restaurant in Odeceixe, and one of the best I have been in Alentejo. Excellent food and service!
