Travel Guide to Córdoba, Spain

"A longstanding tavern, operating since 1948, praised for an appealing menu and an excellent wine selection; it specializes in traditional Córdoban and Andalusian fare such as salmorejo, Iberian ham croquettes, and fried eggplant, making it a popular spot for aperitifs and casual lunches." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Great little Taberna with a fantastic range of regional wines. The food is also local which they are very proud of. Our young waiter was excellent and helpful. We had grilled courgettes with Brie, Lamb crepes with ras hal hanout sauce and fried anchovies. We followed with two desserts, the bread pudding and puff pastry filled with quince and sherry sauce All were very good.

My family and I really enjoyed the food! We did some research and ordered some special cuisine of Córdoba. “Salmorejo” - This was the first cold soup we tried in Spain and it was delicious. ❤️ “Flamenquín” - We loved this as well. “Fried Aubergine” - The honey and cheese made the fried aubergine not that scary so even a family member who never tried egg plant, tried it! “Iberian ham croquette” - If you like a lot of cheese you’ll like it as it’s very creamy (my parents are not a big fan of creamy texture) Calamaritos Fritos was just ok, perhaps Córdoba wasn’t famous for seafood since it’s far from the sea. But my dad wanted it so we ordered😆

Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The fried eggplant, in particular, was quite different from most places , I should note that it had a slightly sweet flavor. The portions were very generous. Service was incredibly fast, and the place was very clean. Even though we didn’t have a reservation, they quickly arranged a table for us. All the staff were very polite. Our waiter, Manuel, was not only very kind but also highly professional! We will definitely come back next time we’re in Córdoba!

This spot really impressed us from the moment we arrived. The indoor and outdoor seating area are great and and manages to feel both authentic and welcoming, with beautiful details that give it a real sense of place and history. The team working here deserves a huge shoutout. Even though it was clearly a busy night, they handled everything with so much grace and efficiency. They stayed calm, focused, and kind throughout the entire experience, and it never felt rushed or impersonal. You can tell they really care about what they do. The food was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The menu offered a great selection, with something for everyone, and each dish we tried was delicious. From the atmosphere to the service to the food, everything came together to create a memorable and enjoyable visit. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

We went there for dinner. Upon arrival we were told outside is fully booked despite quite few tables were empty. They insisted to take us upstairs where there was no one there so we refused to sit there and eventually they were kind to get us seated outside. Food was fantastic especially the oxtail which was magical. Service a bit slow but acceptable

Solo female traveller here is wanting a nice dinner out as a treat and I certainly got that here! Luis was kind enough to put my name on the waiting list and found me a table outside after a short while. I had the almond soup and chicken salad - both delicious and filling. The almond soup in particular was something I wanted to try and it contrasted beautiful with the passion fruit and smoked cod topping (a must try!)

Everything we’ve tried was great, including the dessert (cheesecake) and the sangria. The boquerones were the best we’ve had in the whole Andalucia. The waiter was nice and told us when we reached the recommended limit of tapas for 2 :)

Google
This is my favorite taberna in Córdoba because I really like the food 🥳 I’d definitely recommend the rabo de toro (oxtail), croquetas (croquettes), berenjenas con miel (fried eggplants with sugar cane syrup), and for dessert, the Manolete (especially if you like the Pedro Ximénez wine). You might wanna make a reservation, because the wait can be a bit long. If you don’t eat meat, you can check out the salad section or menus on the blackboards on the wall for veggies and fish dishes 🥳

Yelp
The best meal I've had after 2 weeks in Spain The oxtail, mogote, octopus, fried calamari, patatas bravas, fried pork and dessert were all 5-stars! This place gets very crowded with locals so i recommend coming early. I can't exaggerate when I say you will never find a meal close to this in the US. Not even close. Eat

Yelp
This place was recommended by the local residents of Cordoba. The place is cozy and filled with multiple meal options. I selected the Lomo de Bacalao con aioli" simply put.. the plate melted in my mouth. Rafa was our waiter. He provided superb service and recommended great wine options. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Me encanta este sitio. Todo perfecto. La mazamorra estaba muy buena. La decoración del restaurante hace muy agradable comer allí

Yelp
The best culinary experience in Andalucía so far. Everything was top notch from the service to the table. We shared different plates and the food looks beautiful and tasted delicious.

Yelp
I only had the grilled hake with shrimp sauce and a dry house white for my dinner but both were soooo good. The fish was done perfectly and the shrimp sauce was so flavorful I asked for bread so I could wipe my plate clean. I would have definitely ordered more but didn't want the waiters to judge me.

Yelp
Ok. I have no idea why the reviews are so good. We went here on 9/18. At appx 7 pm. Made a reservation. We asked our waiter what was good. He pointed to the board and said these are our recommendations but I am here by myself so they are not available. So we ordered ham croquettes (good). Calamari (ok) but had to ask this guy for a freaking wedge of lemon. And some awful tomato dish (salmojero) which I am currently eating at a real restauarant. Theirs tasted like river run off. Best to avoid. Was so disappointed.

Yelp
Delicious food, great drinks and service. As tourists who only speak a little Spanish, the waiters were the nicest and most helpful we met in Cordoba. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Really liked everything we tried here. We got the boquerones, berenjenas, flamenquín and salmoreje. They really know how to fry everything just right. The creamy soup is rich and flavorful. We ordered small portions of everything so we could try a greater variety. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
Being to several Tapas places in my tour of Andalusia, this place is by far one of the best. We ordered several tapas. My favourite was Salmorejo (tried again in another restaurant, no comparison). The calamari was tender and fresh. The price, wow, unbeatable. Highly recommended.

Yelp
TL;DR - Cozy restaurant with friendly staff and good food Visited Taberna La Montillana for diner during my stay at Cordoba. I ordered: - Jamon - Rabo de toro al oloroso - Ensalada de hojas tiernas, pollo, pan de pita y salsa cítrica de yogurt de la tierra - Fried squid Most of the menus were good but my favorites had to be chicken salad with local yogurt dressing and braised ox stew. Price was fair for amount/quality of food provided.

Yelp
This taberna was such a pleasant surprise. Great service, great drinks, amazing food. We ordered: 1) Salmorejo- cold creamy tomato soup topped with quail eggs and jamón, excellent. 2) Lomo de cerdo with spinach gorgonzola sauce- favorite part of the meal, the pork loin was so tender, fall apart, nicely seasoned, and the flavor of the sauce, perfect! 3) Berenjenas fritas con miel- fried eggplant fries with honey and chevre, were seriously yummy. Plus a beer, glass of wine, & a water for 28 euro. Exceptional!

Yelp
The food was phenomenal, everything we ordered was super flavorful. We did have to wait for a seat when we came in but the waiters were super friendly and started us off with some drinks. Once we ordered the food came out pretty fast. We ordered two tapas, a burger, and desert the bill totaled to 35 euro plus drinks. Food quality is great for the price. Loved our experience here would definitely return if we had more time in Cordoba.

Yelp
Phenomenal. This place was recommended and we took a leisurely walk from our accommodations to have lunch. We were seated outside on the square and got to watch the people go by and listen to music. I ordered the patatas bravas and the Iberian pork with the Parmesan cream sauce. HOLY WOW. I was pleasantly surprised by this pork. It was tender, flavored perfectly, and melted in my mouth with the sauce as the cherry on top! I wish I were staying in Cordoba longer to return--but this was absolutely perfect.

Yelp
Wow, this food is amazing. We ordered the beef with Gorgonzola, aubergine fries and the salmorejo (a traditional Spanish soup served in Andalusia.) Really, please eat here... no regrets.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant because of Yelp review. It is even better than I expected. The waiters are gentle and exceptionally handsome. We ordered about 5 dishes, soup, eggplants, salmorejo, calamari, cerdo. Everything is good. Plus wine, sparkling water, the bill was around 30 euro. definitely recommend it.

Yelp
BAD EXPERIENCE! I was born and raised in Cordoba, so I believe I know the difference between good and bad places for authentic tapas. Many people in the city recommended me this place... but definitely our dinner was a fiasco. The food was not good. We got the black tomato with tuna. Honestly, it was difficult to find the tomato and the tuna under a mountain of chopped onion. The traditional "flamequín" was not good at all. We also got the fried eggplant (not good) and the zucchini with cheese (just ok). Actually we waited for over 30 mins for the zucchini, because the waiter forgot to order it in the kitchen. The staff was really rude with us. First of all, they complained that we made the reservation via website (if they don't like customers to make online reservation, why do they offer that possibility in their website?). Then, the waiter that served us the food was not helpful at all answering us our questions about the menu. He was actually rude. Bad food, bad service. I give two points because the restaurant is cozy and the prices are low. But don't waste your money there: within 5 minutes walking you can get much better tapas for the same price at Taberna Góngora

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Spain so far. 1) Rabo de toro (oxtail) 2) Lomo de cerdo with gorgonzola sauce 3) Berenjenas fritas con miel (fried eggplant with honey) were outrageously good. 4) Waiter gave us after dinner drinks on the house All for 20,50 euros

Yelp
After walking around the city for days trying to find a place suited our style, we finally came here and it was a revelation. We wanted good quality food that we could eat sitting down. We weren't interested in standing at a table or bar and ordering drink after drink just so we could fill up on tapas and this place doesn't require that. The food was awesome. We tried pork cheeks linguine, fried eggplant, cod on bread the sardine toast. All were excellent and the staff pleasant. We arrived at 830 on a Sunday night and it was empty. By 930 it was full. A top little spot for those wanting good Spanish food but not wanting the hustle and bustle of bar-style tapas.

Cooper T.

Yelp
Great food, service, and price! You can't go wrong with anything here. Ask the waiters to recommend some typical dishes for you. For 2 people, 4 tapa portions are perfect. The dish you MUST try is the fried eggplant with honey. It's like the perfect French fry with the perfect amount of salty and sweet. Highly recommend!

Rick T.

Yelp
We went there for Tapas based on Yelp reviews. They don't really have Tapas as we expected, but they have small and large plates. We had the eggplant (Bejerenjena) which is lightly fried in batter and drizzled with honey along with small chunks of goat cheese. We also had the fried calamari. Both were excellent. They also have a menu with English translations, which is helpful. We thought the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Nobody serves you unless you speak local language. We have been waiting there for 10 minutes. Nobody tells you where to sit, where to order. We tried to speak to them. They just ignored us. Horrible experience. They might have good food. But it is just not for us.

Jon S.

Yelp
Very nice waitstaff, food did not seem to match other reviews for us. Dirty glasses, but again our guy servers were very friendly and accommodating.

Grietje K.

Yelp
Good food, friendly waiter, menu in English. Huevos rotos, egg, ham, potatoes, was very tasty: comfort food. Salmorejo, cold tomatoe soup, was ok. Fried cod and fried squid in a paper cone, were really good. Batatas bravas (potatoes in spicy sauce) were ok. We got a free sweet alcoholic drink at the end. I'm not an expert on Spanish food, but we were all very satisfied. We ate with three people for 28 euro. (With water). We were there at 20.30 and it was very calm. Good wifi.
