On the Grid : Table Wine

"In the heart of the neighborhood is Table Wine, everyone's favorite wine and spirits shop. Ernesto and his very knowledgable and friendly staff can direct you to something you'll no doubt love. But if you prefer to make your own educated decision, they've gone ahead and hand written tantalizingly helpful descriptions of each bottle in the store. The cozy shop offers a thoughtfully curated selection of wines, champagnes and spirits, and hosts weekly wine tastings. A section dedicated to local wines showcases bottles mostly from the North Fork. If there's a special small batch whisky you've been hunting for, chances are you'll find it here." - Diane Shaw

Great experience when I've gone there. Today I got a bottle from there as a gift. It feels nice to receive a bottle from there because the workers are very knowledgable & very nice. The prices are reasonable too. If you need a nice or a last minute gift, you cant go wrong here. I'm loving my gift and I haven't even seen what kind of wine it is.

Love this place! Every time I go everyone is so nice. I love the descriptions along the bottles. I’m always wanting to try new bottles of wine etc. But I don’t know much. Make shopping much better than picking a bottle off appearances 😅. I at-least have an idea of what I’m getting. Thank you table wine

This wine store is amazing. You can find some interesting wine around the world. I went to their shop last night and I could not stop picking up bottle. They have delivery service if you live around them. Good service, good knowledge and friendly staffs.

Google
Lovely wine tastings on Friday evenings and spirit tastings on Saturday. Helps you to refine and narrow down your tastes. Every single bottle I've bought here has been amazing. Love that it's a truly curated selection and not everything ever. Conveniently located across the street from a cheese shop (stand alone cheese) and a block from a bakery for real bread (Letys).

Great selections. They have great liquor in the back, all high quality options. They're always nice and helpful if you have any questions.

Wonderful service! The lovely gentlemen working there are very helpful. The store has an awesome collection of local and interesting wines/liquors. I always end up getting more than I need because I find something that i just have to try.

Yelp
I walked in recently to purchase some white wine. Not so secret secret. I like wine super sweet, not dry! There was a lady who greeted me as I entered. After sharing what wine I preferred, she showed me directly to the wine that fit the flavor profile in my mind. It was great experience. She was so professional yet friendly. They had local options from upstate NY and also descriptions everywhere to let you know the taste and the flavors inside each bottle.

Yelp
Table Wine is my favorite wine / liquor store in Jackson Heights. They have a curated selection of wines and spirits and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They listen to what you want and at what price point you want to pay. They never try to upsell. I visit my son in Jackson Heights from Central Texas 2 or 3 times a year and Table Wine is always my first stop. I have recommended some Texas spirits and when they can get it, they stock it. You cannot go wrong with Table Wine.

Yelp
Interesting wine at reasonable prices. The owners have a real interest in wine and the selection they provide is very good.

Yelp
Great new selections regularly come in. Staff is courteous and very knowledgeable. Buying wine here is educational and a pleasant experience.

Yelp
I've been living in Jackson Heights for almost 30 years and I never knew this place existed! Clearly I don't walk enough in the neighborhood. I was casually walking with my boyfriend when we passed Table Wine and we stopped to take a double look and we both said to each other how we needed to come back inside after dinner. Table Wine is so cute inside and filled with great wine choices. The gentleman in the front was so helpful when we asked about wines to choose from. They have everything from local wine, Japanese whiskey, to Mezcal. I will 10000% be coming back! So glad i found this hidden gem in Jackson Heights!

Yelp
What can I say? They know their wine! I went here looking for a wine from the local cultures, as well as a nice dry Italian wine. The owner, in a safe, socially distanced manner, found a delicious Uruguayan red. I'd be back in a heartbeat because they're patient, and know their stuff.

Yelp
Best liquor store of all time. This place is perfect. The staff is so amazing and awesome. I don't know anything about wine and I just go in and say hi, I am looking for a wine to go with Louie's pizza and they nail it. Great selection of other liquors too. So happy to have them in the neighborhood!

Yelp
I really enjoy coming here I have a very rudimentary knowledge of wines and it's always nice to talk to the knowledgeable folks that work here to help pick out wines. Got 6 bottles on a budget for my momo partay tomorrow

Yelp
This place has been a blessing! I live in Miami and I found this store on Yelp. I was looking for a specific Bourbon and they had it in store. The gift was for someone in NY. I called the store and Harry was a blessing! He was attentive and answered all my questions and even went above and beyond to help me with my request. Definitely A+ store! Thank you so much. A very happy customer!

Yelp
In normal times, the store has been fantastic. Prices are great, service is friendly & non-assuming, but more importantly - their selection of wine & liquors are incredibly well considered. But in the time of Coronavirus - the store has gone above and beyond. Only takeout & deliveries are allowed due to the state's actions (acting in an abundance of caution), but under the pressure of closure they've managed to pioneered a purchase process that works. This is a moment in time that will create, test & destroy relationships of all kind. Table Wine has been there when we've needed something to take the edge off a bit, and I'm glad to support them in kind.

Yelp
Knowledgeable, welcoming wine shop with an excellently curated selection of wines and spirits. They have great stock of aperitifs, liquors, champagnes to go with the wine. The staff there, headed by the wonderful owner Ernesto, is always ready to help and offer a chat about what's new in the store. We're grateful to have such a wonderful wine shop in the neighborhood. They feel like friends. And they also deliver!

Greg K.

Yelp
Great selection, helpful staff and a matching cheese boutique right across the street!

Yelp
Beautiful shop with an eclectic and wide variety of wines and unique spirits. Staff is highly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. A great spot!

Yelp
I love table Wine, they have a variety of great wine at great prices. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
i read two one star reviews for Table wine from two guys from California who felt that they should have been treated like visiting lords or something. i was a bit offended to see what they wrote as it does not resemble the store i know and love. i assume some lame competitor put them up to bad mouthing Ernesto and his store or they are just bitter losers who should have stayed in California. i found many wonderful wines in this store and received a lot of expert advice. they are super helpful and polite, even to rude people. this is literally the only wine store i shop in in Jackson Heights. i give them 5 stars. they deserve them.

Cait M.

Yelp
Great selections of wine. The staff are super knowledgeable about their inventory and are always very willing to help.

Yelp
For the past several years Table Wine in Jackson Heights is a main source for my many wine needs. I found this store in my early explorations of the neighborhood and have found their knowledge and service to be consistent and through. The store is well organized and the many bottles have tags on them providing further information about the flavors of the wine. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and on more than one occasion have aided me in various wine choices. I have not been steered wrong yet! During the current pandemic, the store takes many precautions to ensure that the store is not overcrowded. It is comforting to see an associate monitoring located at the door to maintain the capacity limit. Whether it is a dinner party or holiday gathering, it is very convenient to have a local wine store that offers a great selection and fulfills the needs of various gatherings!

Yelp
Excellent wine store that also carries a good selection of liquor. The selection is well curated and well priced. I tend to go for wines in the $12-$18 price range and have been able to find numerous delicious picks. They also are really nice and give great recommendations. I've loved every thing they've recommended, this store is a neighborhood gem.

Yelp
The best liquor store in Jackson Heights! Happy 10th Anniversary! Not an easy feat. It's also one of the only liquor stores in NYC where you will find rare and hard to find items you won't find in any other liquor store. I love the niche-ness of it all! And if you know your stuff you know they have an amazing selection! Especially, of cordials, mixers, and amari that most stores, especially in this area, would never think of carrying. Their small curated selection just flows! It works! They're also open to ordering something if you want it and if it fits their style. I love this place.

Yelp
This is a great store. My girlfriend and I often cook dinner on a Saturday night. She sends me the recipe and I go to Table Wine and ask them to pick something out. Their selections have been on target every time. They have a selection of NY-area vintages. They also sell liquors as well. I've seen whiskey, aquavit and they told me they have a rum which goes well with egg nog (note to self to December to try it).

Yelp
Hands down THE BEST! That shop packs quite a selection. Great customer service too. Wide range of prices/regions/etc.

Yelp
Update to the below: I had initially given 3 stars and now changed to 4. Reason being is the lady from the store reached out and apologized, which I find truly amazing. Not many store owner do and I highly appreciate it. I definitely will continue to go there and hope that with the change of attitude I can give 5 stars. Great approach! Yes, the store is cute and you can find almost anything to fancy a wine connoisseur. My friends and I come often to buy wine here and usually I had good experiences and impression. Sadly I'm giving only three stars because of an elder, blonde lady who is recently attending the store. Her demeaning and unfriendly attitude just drives us more away and towards other wine shops in the area. She is snappy, which makes me believe she doesn't want our money in her store. If it wouldn't be for her I would give even 5 stars. But nowadays the attitude counts! Suggestion: stop discriminating against people who look more casual, with piercings and tattoos. You might be surprised how much they might bring you business in the future! Good thing: there is another, younger lady who is super friendly.

Yelp
I was SO excited when I came across this little gem in my neighborhood! Normally if I'm buying wine in Queens it's in Astoria, Long Island City or Sunnyside! Table Wine is a super charming wine shop with a really warm feel. It's small but they carry some really fantastic and hard to find imported and domestic wines. They're neatly organized by country of origin and color/type. Staff here is awesome, friendly and super knowledgeable about wine pairings, fermenting methods, best practices and they've made some really fantastic recommendations for me. Generally I've come in here already knowing what I want or what I'm trying to achieve whether I'm cooking pasta or preparing a steak - they always know what works and can recommend more than one at alternative price points which always makes my wallet happy since I feel like most wines here are around $11-20 with some really stellar options around the $13-15 price point. Again, happy wallets equal even happier livers. Don't know how that makes sense, but it does. Think about it. Come here if you're in the hood, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Small shop. Carefully curated wines at reasonable prices. You can find most bottles for about $1 cheaper in Manhattan but then you have to go Manhattan. Under $20 is their specialty - the higher priced bottles tend to be less impressive for the price point. Staff is usually great but can be a little awkward and pretentious. I usually find their assistants better to chat with than the two owners. One owner warned us about the dangers of walking on Roosevelt?

Yelp
Table Wine is an eclectic wine store in Jackson Heights. The owners maintain a small and elegant shop on 37th Ave that stocks unique and obscure wine and spirits. I was directed here by Yelp to find some local wine. Being from California, I am spoiled by wine, but I prefer to try local varieties on the road. There was a large collection of New York wine both Finger Lakes and Long Island. I purchased a nice Pinot and Riesling and was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality. This store looks like the owners take pride in stocking the best obscure wines. Their selection is heavy on Europe with lots of Spanish wines and some high end small batch spirits. You may not find what you were looking for originally, but they may tempt you with something new and exciting.

Ann M.

Yelp
I often visit a friend in Jackson Heights, and try to stop by this wine shop whenever I do so. I have been delighted on every occasion, and the wine suggestions have never failed. The store itself is a pleasure to visit, and the staff could not be more helpful (or knowledgeable) - and the prices are very fair. I wish my local store in Manhattan was half as good.

Yelp
Very cute place! Great service and selection with a fair price. I had the wine tasting and discovered my new favorite white. It is now my go to place for wine.

Yelp
I have walked by this place many times and thought "thank god a real wine store near where I live" so I had a dinner date and decided to walk in and get one nicer wine (not from the asian liquors stores everywhere in the area) in hopes of getting some nice wine for my date. I apparently walked into a time where they were having wine tasting, which equaled a lot of awkward older white people being loud and in the way (the place is small). From the outside the place looks like they have a lot of great stuff, but until you come in and actually look, the products aren't that great. Yes they all have hand written tags on them of tasting notes, but that is a old sales trick. After kinda getting annoyed at the close space with people and the noise level, I honestly just wanted to get out of there, so I read a tag of bottle of a Italian grape (which I know and have enjoyed before) and thought that would work just so I could get out of here. The tasting notes where exactly what I was looking for because my friend likes malbec and it was similar. I grabbed a bottle from the stock (be careful with there stock, its awkward and I almost broke a bottle because its stocked vertically, so the first bottle I grabbed made all the top bottles come crashing down) and went to the front desk. A white mid 30s woman was infront and she was taking a lot of time with 3 bottles and I thought she was cashing out, but no. So I stood there and nothing was happening for about 5 minutes. She left she bottles on the counter and went somewhere, who cares right? Then I moved to the side and cashed out, even the lady cashier was awkward, she obviously has never really worked in a store before, took her a few tries to scan the barcode, which were unsuccessful, so I said its 14.99, she replied "I know"...... I tried not to snap back. End of the story, the bottle of wine was horrible. wasn't even close to the tag tasting notes it had on it, it was weird, think it was "corked" though it had a screw top. Lessoned learned, appearances aren't everything, not with this store. Ill stick to my asian liquor store, which has much much much better products.

Yelp
"Hey, Juliana so what are you cooking tonight" "Nothing - just ordering out. Martin --- but, like what goes good with popcorn" "Well what kind of popcorn are we talking about" "Hmmm, good question - i was going to do some truffle oil and top it off with parm" "Aha, sooo I'm going to recommend..." This is the wine shop - where everyone knows your name ... and your dog's proclivities. Anyone can give you recommendations for lasagna, what to bring to a dinner party -- but finding the perfect match for popcorn ... now that's award winning :) One of my favorite wine shops in all of NYC - yes Manhanittes, you guys included (gaaasp). The owners Ernie and his wife, are literally some of the nicest people in the world. The staff is all family/ family adjacent. The wines and spirits are perfectly curated from travels and small vineyards and small batches. The wine tasting are usually three wines and extremely well curated. I can't say enough about how much I love this place. 10 stars - if I could.
google avatar

Othelia J.

Yelp
Great local little wine store. Very good selection from pricy to very affordable And very very helpful and profess staff. Most of the time the owners are there them-self. Well worth a visit or many visits. Hugs Enjoy ...

Yelp
This place is fun! A good selection of wines, whiskeys and bourbons to choose from. Friendly and informative staff to back it up too. I think the prices are fair and the range is good enough to keep you coming back for more.

Yelp
Excellent Selection of Hand-picked Wines, and Even Better Service Table Wine is my place to go in Jackson Heights to buy wines for any occasion. The people who own and work there are all knowledgable enough to steer you right no matter what kind of wine you seek. I highly recommend you check this shop out.

Yelp
I recently moved to Jackson Heights and needed to pick up a couple bottles of wine. There is a liquor store right outside the building where I live. I went there about a month ago and seemed to be interrupting the television watching. This time out I went to Table Wine about 5 blocks away from me and the short walk was well worth it. I was immediately greeted and asked if I have been here before. When I told him I had just moved to the area, he gave me an overview of the store. He then helped me with what I was looking for and his recommendations we're spot on. They also told me about tastings they have and I will definitely will be a frequent visitor.

B W.

Yelp
What makes a great NYC neighborhood? Cheap hole-in-da-wall Chinese (check) Devil-tempting pizza pies (check) Reliably consistent Italian (negative) Fresh deli with cold cuts only a vegetarian could hate (maybe) and, Welcoming wine/liquor store for every occasion (check, check) While Jackson Heights is on its way as a work in progress, Table Wine earns its keep by being a critical piece of the puzzle. Besides being well-stocked with wines/bubbles of varying price points, the back of the store, where unusual liquor is on display (including a grappa from Hudson Valley) is always an adventure. The merch and "hardware" aside, as they are easily duplicable competitive advantages, what sets this independent operator apart is the consistent service delivered by the owners and staff. For those who rail against big box retailers as a kneed-jerk reaction, this is one mom-n-pop store I can easily support and hope it remains a mainstay in da hood. 9/2017 I love this store! I wonder if I can be an investor....
google avatar

Ravi J.

Yelp
Finally! A true wine shop finally comes to Jackson Heights. I stopped in for the first time just the other day, and I was impressed by the nice array of wines. It seems like each wine is hand picked, and the staff can speak at length about the taste/texture of each variety. The bottles are ordered by taste with the lighter wines being closer to the window. Sake and top-shelf liquor is also available in the back. The price point here is the big plus -- all wines are priced around $15, which is great for those who like to try out new varietals. I am a fan, and I am glad that the owners decided to open up in our neighborhood. Now if they could only bring in some craft beer. A tip: try to get on the mailing list to be informed about weekly tastings.

Alex B.

Yelp
The floor's not sticky. The owners aren't greasy. There's no photo near the cash register of a bikini-clad blond drowning happily in a giant martini glass. My god, could it be true? A place in Jackson Heights where you can buy wine and not feel like you've just purchased a venereal disease? This place is great. Wines arranged by body, mostly "old world wines" as one of the owners explained. Great prices for great tastes. Each bottle sports a stock-paper card with a penned explanation of its notes. I loved it. I was able to get a white wine that was neither Chardonnay nor Pinot Grigio--amazing. And the whole store smells like freshly sawed pine--produced, no doubt, by the vast amounts of wood furniture and shelves decorating the interior. Go here and drink well.

Yelp
Table Wine has been in the neighborhood for four years now. It is great that Jackson Heights can support a small, characterful store like this. They have kept true to their original model; they only carry good wine, they have bottles for all budgets, they have regular tastings, and everything is from small producers. They seem to do this because they love wine not simply to make money. The staff are all knowledgeable without being intimidating, and the hand written labels on every bottle are always spot on. If it says "bacon" or "green pepper" then, amazingly, that is exactly what you will taste. They carry organic wines, Long Island wines, a great selection of rosé wine in the summer. They will also speed chill a bottle of white for you. The layout of the store is really clever and helpful. The wine isn't piled up by region or price but is arranged in racks by taste. So they start off at the door with whites and reds that are crisp and flinty and light and as you go down the wall the wines get gradually richer, heavier and more complex. Brilliant idea! They also have a central table for wines that are under around 12 bucks, another section for New York State wines, another for for more prices wines at 20 bucks plus, and a sparkly section. Finally, on the back wall, they have an amazing selection of spirits. They have a particularly wonderful Irish single malt, Tyrconnell, which I highly recommend. The only slight quibble is that because they get wines from small producers something that becomes a favorite can disappear. But that seems to reinforce the nature of wine as a living thing, something that is seasonal and local, rather than something that is produced a gigantic industrial pipeline, which is the impression that I get in your average wine store stacked with boxes of the same anonymous brands. Table Wine's racks store most of the bottles horizontally, apart from the ones on display at the top. Going past after they have closed I have seen them lying these bottles on their sides. Talk about dedication, but it means that I have never had a bottle from them whose cork was difficult to remove. Another store that flies in the face of commercial anonymity.

Yelp
Definitely not what I had expected, especially in the area. I was walking over from Roosevelt Ave - train track galore - and once I hit 37th Avenue, it was like I stepped into a different neighborhood. The entire block looks nothing like Roosevelt - it's quaint and all the storefronts reminds me of Cape Cod or even the Hamptons. Table Wine is a cute little store - the decor is actually very Hamptons. While they carry a large variety of wines, it was not overwhelming. I happened to drop by at the right time because they have free wine tasting every Friday from 6-8pm. I was looking for something dry and something fruity. One of the associates was very helpful and recommended two very tasty wines - malbec for me and zinfandel for my friends. Would definitely go back if in the area again.

Yelp
Jackson Heights. The land of indian buffets, taco trucks, the arepa lady, and some of the grungiest liquor stores in the city. Not exactly where you'd expect to find a place like table wine. This store has a wonderful assortment of wines, and the service is excellent. Weekly tastings, great advice, and the owner always willing to give a hand if you're looking for something new or different. The tasting notes on each bottle are also great for picking up something to go with dinner, and the organization's nice as well. The prices aren't that cheap (there's not $5 jug-o-wine available), but they do have a table of sub-$12 wines that have never failed me. They may not be as good as complex as the really, really nice stuff, but they all drink wonderfully. I'm a particular fan of Odfjell's Babor Cabernet. For $9, you will NOT find a nicer juicy red. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Quick Edit : They now stock a fantastic selection of Spirits, Sake, and Shochu as well as wine. They've got some pretty hard-to-find stuff on the really high end, and it's a good value, as well. You'll find some of the liquor here on sale nearby for a not insignificant price increase. Good job once more!

Yelp
I don't understand anyone who gives this place less than 5 stars. The selection is not only extensive but also intelligent and surprising. No one is ever going to convince me that it's worth my money to drink New York wine, but I am even psyched by Table Wine's excellent selection of that, right up between the door and the register. I am not one of those people that expect a wine shop to have beer (they don't) and spirits, but their selection of spirits is better than any I've seen in NYC outside of Fort Greene and other creative-class bourgie enclaves where everything is much more expensive. The staff are friendly, know their shit, AND have a personality. That is magical. Bottom line, I have never been unhappy with my purchases here. For example, once I was grossed out by having tried some Tunisian wine that was too "jammy" (or is it "plummy") for me, but I was still happy that Table Wine had it there for me to try. Most of the time I get things that are tasty and pleasingly aromatic, yet push my palate. Hooray. Thank you for existing, Table Wine! The only place that competes with you at all in NYC for range and Preisleistungsverhältnis is Astor Wine, and you aren't a scary warehouse-like space far away from where I live. The hood would be far sadder without you. (See other reviews about local grimy liquor store / bodega sources of alcohol.)

Yelp
I never fail to find a good, affordable wine at Table Wine. The staff is friendly, and more importantly knowledgeable about their inventory. I nearly always buy wine by asking for suggestions, and they will always recommend a variety of wines that suit my needs, and are within my price range. The selection is small, but good and varied. They have a beautiful back wall full of interesting spirits and bitters that I've been itching to try. All in all, this is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood, and they have only gotten better in this past year! I look forward to their success continuing!

Yelp
As good as a small local wine shop gets! This place has been a favorite of mine since moving to Jackson Heights a couple of months ago and we come here almost every week. Reasonably priced, high value wines from smaller labels. When I wasn't living in the area, I always walked here from Woodside just for the eclectic selection that I wouldn't find anywhere else. They focus on the local area - New York State, Long Island, and the surrounding areas as well as some rarities from California, Europe (a heavenly Vermentina from Sardegna) and beyond! It's also a great place to expand my liquor pallet (who knew?!) - whiskey, vodka, bourbon, moonshine, absinthe - all from smaller (yet highly notable) producers. The owners are very nice and knowledgeable - and have made some great suggestions for any occasion. They also have weekly tastings which you can sign up for- I have yet to attend one. If you're in the area and haven't been, get here ASAP. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I love this charming little wine store in the neighborhood. They've got a great collection and the people are very nice. I'm definitely gonna be a regular.

Yelp
An excellent neighborhood wine store. It carries an interesting selection of wines and small batch spirits.

Tristram S.

Yelp
Overpriced- other local unpretentious liquors stores average $5-$10 less for bourbon! I have to agree with another reviewer on low quality of wines and awkward experience with staff- it's all just off. From the outside the place is cute, but the cramped space makes shopping harried. Staff will greet you but all seem anxious and awkward, I don't know why. I've given this place chance after chance and have never had such consistently disappointing experiences with a wine store. Corked wine more than once--crappy disappointing wine is the rule with reds-- whites are a little more consistent. Stay away- it's worth going to the other wine shop in JH or a local liquor store. See my review for ADDICTIVE.

Yelp
Great Store. The selection of wines is excellent even though it is a smaller store. They use their space very well and know how to keep the floor well stocked and yet easy to move around. I was asked for help but I know my wines so I just spent most of my time quietly gazing around at the selection. Very good choice selections here. Do not kid yourself. This location has gone through many changes before Table Wine came along. It is safe to assume that this location will not change for decades to come. ++++Tastings are an excellent touch.

I just moved to the Elmhurst/Jackson Heights area and Table Wine really is a diamond in the rough. I wasn't expecting much from the area given the huge amount of bulk liquor store but the employees really do know what they're talking about since they have a small selection of good quality wines ranging in prices-- most are generally affordable-- even have a shelf with all-local wines. The great thing about this place is that the wines are organized via body-type which makes my life easier considering I'm still learning about wines. Was looking for something cheap to dump into a sauce I was making and wasn't looking for a heavy red-wine. We eventually decided on something from the discounted table which was a very drinkable, medium-bodied wine. Great choice and a great sauce! Will definitely be visiting again (probably on a weekly basis heyoo)
