A restaurant fabulously nestled at a junction that's ideal for people watching. We sat outside as a large tourist group booked out most of the tables. We really enjoyed the cod, but the partridge was quite heavy on the red wine. The lemonade didn't come with ice despite it being an extremely hot afternoon. Overall we enjoyed the experience for the nice views, but the food & drinks left something to be desired.

Our tour guide left us on this side of town for lunch during our Sintra tour. We climbed over the hill and stumbled upon a beautiful restaurant. The food was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Although I'm not usually a fan of potatoes, the ones they served were wonderful. Our waitress recommended the Beef Wellington, one of the best we had ever had. The fish fillet was also fresh and tasty, with a hint of salt that made the dish delicious. We chose to sit outside to people-watch and enjoy the fresh air. However, the ground was angled and less comfortable than we had hoped. Despite this, we enjoyed the food and service, which made our lunchtime experience enjoyable.

Google
Beautiful restaurant with amazing food in Sintra. They have outdoor and indoor seating. Place is very cute and nicely decorated. Staffs were very friendly and the foods were very good. We tried Filetes de Pescada com molho de camarao, Bacalhau a Tacho Real, and cream steak. All the foods were tasty. Sangria was very good as well. Highly recommend you to try this place!

I would give this ZERO stars if I could. I was alone, and standing outside waiting to be seated at 2pm. The restaurant was marginally busy (albeit people were eating and no line). The waitress made eye contact with me at least 10 times and still made me wait. Finally asking if I wanted to sit outside or inside, she seemed annoyed. I asked to sit outside. She took 10 minutes to give me the menu, when I had already decided on what I wanted. I turned back again to make eye contact to order my drink and mains, however this time she saw me and she walked the other way. This is disgusting unprofessional behaviour from the waitress. I simply got up and left. If you’re a solo brown person, avoid. I can sense all the other people eating being treated well. And here’s me. Disgusting. I do not recommend. Take your money and spend elsewhere.

Seems to be an original Portuguese Taberna! Food is delicious and the staff very friendly and competent although not completely fluent in English. Despite that, understanding was not difficult. Not suited for large groups, not wheelchair accessible. Beginning of April was still very cold - inside as well. We were seated at the fireplace, which was nice and necessary. We (also the guys) kept their jackets on the whole time. Insulation is missing. Decoration and other ambient items fit the place and the choice of desserts and food is exactly right even though there were only two Vegetarian dishes on the menu.

Google
Delicious Meal for lunch when visiting Sintra. As with most visitors, main meal times like lunch are really busy. I am so glad I had booked a reservation for lunch here prior to our trip to Sintra. I had ordered the grill Sea Bass special, and my wife and ordered the Bacalhau Tacho Real. Both meals were delicious, and I could even say the Bacalhau might have been one of our best during our trip to Portugal.

Yelp
I'm surprised by the mixed reviews. Our recent visit did not disappoint. Came here on a whim after our tour of the castles. We happened to look up restaurants on Travel Advisor and this one was highly rated. The outside dining area was appealing but as we walked inside, I was drawn in by the decor - clean, cozy, and serene. Their bathroom was stunning immersed in green tile. We were seated in the back next to a window with a beautiful view. Service was attentive yet unintrusive. We were so hungry and ordered quite a few dishes: Starters: Bread/Butter Olives Foie Gras White Anchovies Prawns with Garlic Main dishes: Caesar Salad (enough to be shared by 2 people) Steak was served medium rare and came with fries Bacalhau - Cod EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was delicious!! I did not realize that the Caesar Salad came with chicken. It was a meal of its own. However, the steak and cod were the highlight of our lunch experience! The steak was well-seasoned and tender. They made sure it was prepared medium rare. The cod was also tasty paired with sauteed greens and their version of mashed potatoes. Such a beautiful restaurant. This spot is a hidden gem in Sintra - give it some love and check it out.

Yelp
Excellent food in a small local restaurant. Enjoyed the cod fish with potatoes. Great service. Nice little outdoor seating area, or you can sit inside as well.

Yelp
Amazing food! We had made a reservation and this restaurant was perfect for a party of 6. We got the vegetable soup, sea bass and cod. All were amazing and we would definitely come again. The inside was good and the service was good (but a little slow).

Yelp
We had house foie gras with Abóbora (pumpkin) jam, grilled Robalinho, and Bacalhao á Tacho Real, tender cod with caramelized onion, tender golden potatoes and a wilted green. All the dishes were rendered with restraint and respect the lightly seasoned ingredients allowed to shine. The pumpkin jam is our new favorite food. The service was superb and the prices reasonable for the location and quality. Very highly recommended by our local innkeeper and she wasn't wrong.

Yelp
This is probably the best restaurant to eat at in Sintra. Every single meal that I have had here has been delicious. Definitely try the pumpkin soup, it was one of the best soups that I've ever had in my entire life. The service here is on point and this restaurant has won many awards which they display in side of the restaurant. I highly recommend eating here and definitely would choose this over any of the other restaurants in the center city square which seem like tourist traps.

Yelp
Perfect place recommended by tour guide. Food is on another level and the service here is like no other ! This by far exceeded my expectations. Make sure you order sangria

Yelp
Came to visit Sintra and tour the castles. This restaurant was highly recommended. Definitely did not disappoint. We did koto have reservations but were seated quickly. We ordered the veal steak and grilled seabass. Both entrees were excellent. Steak came with French fries, and the seabass came with steamed broccoli and cauliflower alo g with boiled potatoes. The service was excellent as well.

Yelp
Wonderful little place! Exceptionally fresh fish, delicious pumpkin soup, and refreshing sangria with fabulous and friendly service.

Yelp
This place made our trip!! I finally found what I was looking for. Grilled fish. Ambiance. Acoustic guitar. Charming proprietor. I went with my husband and son and they rushed out strawberry gelato for my crying toddler... twice !! I cannot say enough about this wonderful place. We were so pleased. It was cheap too!! 70 euro only and we went to town with the ordering. We got sea bream. Sea bass. Took advantage of the bread and prosciutto and olives... I want to go back. It was that good !!

Yelp
We were wandering around the historic center when we stumbled upon this restaurant. The owner was friendly and greeted us as we passed. We decided to stop here for lunch and were delighted. The owner picked a great wine for us and we accepted his recommendations for food. The cod was the star of our meal and was wonderfully tender. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather and watched people pass by. We enjoyed our food and wine at a leisurely pace and didn't feel rushed at all. A perfect place to have a long lunch while recovering from visiting all the sites in Sintra.

Yelp
Not sure how this place got good reviews. When we walked in, the whole place smelled very musty and they couldn't open any windows. They did not offer a wine menu - we had to ask for one. We ordered the salmon which was not cooked through and had many bones. The side of potatoes was cold and the vegetables were not fresh. In fact, the green beans were from a can. When we sent the salmon back to be further cooked, it came back exactly the same. And when they brought the bill, the bill holder had a dead fly attached (see picture). The wine that we ordered was bitter and when we asked to change it, the waiter couldn't understand us and didn't know what to do.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here on the way down to the city center from the castles. It was a really nice restaurant and the only on with at least some yelp reviews. We are so glad we tried it! We both got the specials of the day which were the Seabass and the tuba - both were phenomenal! A little pricey (40 euros for both of us lunch), but definitely worth a try!

Yelp
I think both the good and bad reviews here are accurate. I think it deserves three stars but I am giving it 1 because I think it is very over-rated. The service is outstanding and some of the food is good, however it is kind of overpriced for what the food is, the dining room does smell musty, and it looks like the windows there do not open. They also seem to cook with way too much cream. It felt like a French restaurant. In some other Portuguese restaurants, when an English menu says "cream of" in a soup name, it will still be pretty light. Not here. The Pumpkin cappuccino soup is actually pretty accurately named because it is like a bowl of cream with a shot of pumpkin. Both the shrimp and almond sauces on the fish were also a heavy cream base. The house red wine was very good. The couvert sheep's cheese and bread were also outstanding. They have a 32 Euro seafood dish with about six fishes in it that you need to call in the day before your meal to order so that they know to buy those fishes the next morning. If we come back, we would try that.

Yelp
I ordered the sea bass and my husband the pork! Both can with vegetables and potatoes/fries and both were delicious!! Quick service and amazing food! The wine and beer were also divine! As was the setting with an acoustic guitarist playing and it is located just at the back of the main tourist drag so you feel like you are in a quaint little town! Plus great value for money...our total was 35 euro for two large mains, olive starter, two wines, one beer and water! A must in Sintra!!!!!

Yelp
Deliciously fresh, nice setting, great service and nice guitar music in background. Owner comes to table for personal touch. I had robalhinho

Yelp
Great ambiance and wonderful service to match the delicious food. An acoustic guitarist was playing softly as I entered the restaurant. The volume was just right and only added to the atmosphere. After starting with some fava beans in a tasty vinaigrette and some bread with olive oil, I had the creamed seafood soup. The soup base was tomato and was indescribably good. My mouth is watering just remembering. Next was grilled sole. The waiter filleted it at my table and presented it to me with an understated flourish. The fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection. I finished off the meal with a piece of lemon pie. The house red wine was also very good and from a Portuguese vineyard. I do not remember what is was as I did not order a full bottle. I will go back to Tacho Real when I return to Sintra.

Yelp
Completely catches you by surprise. Get past the outside and you will find an amazing menu. Try the seafood soup and the fillets with shrimp sauce. An extremely charming place that fits the elegance and history of the town.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere with a love guitar player and beautiful decor. The swordfish with passion fruit sauce was very good. The seafood soup was yummy as well. Great find in Sintra!

Yelp
We read the reviews and probably would have passed but the outside seating was in the sun so we couldn't resist. We had the ravioli and the salmon--all delicious and generous portions. Attentive wait staff. Stop here at least for lunch. Beautiful setting, delicious food and a good value.

Yelp
Amazing food. The ravioli was out of this world. We really enjoyed the pork and the salmon, too.

Yelp
It's a little bit off the beaten path, but definitely some of the best food I've had in Portugal to date. I was a little weary entering the restaurant because we were the only family in the restaurant (I later found out that this was because as Americans we eat dinner around 7, while in Portugal dinner is eaten later around 9). I split the filet steak for two (chateaubrian is what I think it was called) and it was absolutely delicious. I also tried the meat ravioli with mushroom sauce, - which wasn't written on the menu but the waiters told us about it - seafood cream soup, and the sword fish with a passion fruit sauce. I would have ordered everything I tried again if we went back.

Yelp
Totally lucked into this place as our apartment was across the street. It's much bigger than I expected from the appearance. It was delicious in every way. The service was outstanding. The fish dishes ( rock bass with almond sauce and sole) we tried were the freshest and tastiest we have had. The filet au poivre was also delicious. They were very friendly and very helpful! We may go back again!!

Chris L.

Yelp
Great decor and atmosphere. Food was very good however the shrimp soup was not good. Try the steak options, both were great. The mushroom appetizer was also tasty. Best thing we had was the shrimp curry. Service was good not great which is why only four stars.
