Google
I have to say I absolutely love Taco King, but this was the worst visit I've had they tried to charge me $45 for a tip and wouldn't give me the receipt until I demanded it. Then they gave us the wrong food for 2 out of three of the orders and the third one was not even cooked. Never coming back to this Taco King again

Solid Lunch location. Daily special. Sunny with metro mountain views

Google
We had lengua tacos and a beef chimichanga and the tacos were not terrible but not great. The chimichanga was very bland no seasoning and the chips were very stale. On the positive side the staff were friendly and food was very fast just not my favorite.

Google
Fast, good food. I come here for the tacos as they are delicious. I really can't speak for most of the menu, but everything I've seen looks good. They have a good salsa bar with sour cream. However, I have found it is hit and miss with the halibut tacos. Sometimes they are really good and sometimes they are not.

Google
First time eating at a Taco King. This was good for a Mexican fast food restaurant. We had the chicken taco salad and a chicken chimichanga. Both meals were prepared perfectly and I would go there again. I enjoyed the meal only thing would be to modernize and upgrade the dining area.

There is a first time for everything. I tried the enchilada with beans and rice. It was very tasty and filling. The food came out quickly. The staf were very friendly and patient, even with it being busy. Just a nice place to get some good, quick Mexican food.

Quick & dirty: I'm a bell curve kinda gal so this place is decent/good. Seeing it is a chain I'll give it another go elsewhere to better judge the place. And will try their seafood tacos or burritos a la carte instead because their rice and beans were kind of meh to me. Hint: there's a small (3%?) discount for cash and an additional surcharge (~4%) for credit card!! It's not bad... Portion was decent although initially I was disappointed with the size but I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach because 4 corn tortillas later (ordered carne asada combo) I was satisfied. Not thrilled about their rice and beans in the combo... Not very tasty at all and a little on the dry side for the rice. Due to covid, no dining in and this being my first time there I didn't know to ask for salsa sauce so the meat was a little dry to me. As the dish got a little cold, the fat settled in the plate and left a film in my mouth so hopefully you don't live too far away!

Google
Food was overpriced and not very good 22 bucks for 3 tacos 🌮 and the beans and rice Were bland and the beef for the tacos had no flavor and appeared to be boiled yes like mush

Yelp
I love coming here. The food is authentic and it's delicious. The employees here are friendly and they're attentive and they make their business a welcoming atmosphere. I appreciate that. One of my favorite dishes here are the Shrimp Tacos. They're delicious! They have a unique taste to them. I love that they have a variety of condiments. Their pickled onions are the absolute best on tacos! This restaurant may be easy to overlook, but they have a lot to offer for the cost and they care that you have a good experience there. I think the locations around town could be a lot bigger in terms of the space, if they choose. Burrito King, now under a new name, is a good example of how spacious Taco King could be. Either way, I'm going to keep coming here when I crave Mexican food.

Yelp
I went to Taco King instead of Oscar's (this was a mistake) because they serve breakfast burritos all day. Or at least, that's what they said on the phone when I ordered- my breakfast burrito was poorly wrapped and had so little egg in it that I thought I had been duped into ordering lunch/no, they're just that stingy on the eggs. What they made me was fried on a skillet of lies. The chorizo was super eh, I ended up unfolding their "attempt" at a burrito because it wanted to fall apart so badly. Couldn't finish it, I was disappointed firstly, but why finish food that doesn't even taste good?

Woodrow H.

Yelp
The updated taco king cuz the wanted a bar. Menue is larger not better. Can't just go up and order food anymore have to use a waitress who gets your order wrong twice. Been going there for years. Not anymore.

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Some days you just need some comfort food!!! Yesterday was no exception with all the snowfall, bad roads, and running late for appts. I stopped by the Northern Lights location because their parking lot looked drivable. Their customer service is always top notch, I've never gotten an order wrong, and the food is always consistent. It may not be the best in town but it always hits the spot. Love the condiment bar, it's always clean and full.

Nicole M.

Yelp
This place has been a staple for me for many years. Unfortunately, I have to say that I don't think that will be the case for me anymore. I'm not sure if there are maybe new owners, or maybe it's hard to get certain product? It just doesn't taste the same anymore. I always get the special tacos, asada of course, and it tastes completely different. Even the rice and beans. I'm not sure what it is but the menu is starting to taste like all of the other taco places in town. Which is sad, because it was the only taco place I would go to because they had a signature taste. Very sad. Hope it's just a phase and they can get back to making really tasty tacos!

Yelp
Moving back to Anchorage after over a decade living north, I couldn't wait to have my favorite taco king dishes. I'm so sad. Tostaditas w/chicken, king fries, and queen tostada were a disappointment. Everything could've been made a lot better had the oil they use been changed more recently so that everything wasn't a deep dark brown and tasting burnt and stale. On top of that, pre-prepared tostaditas appeared warmed up as many of the chips were burnt. There were a few shreds of chicken in there, but you wouldn't have known. The guacamole was at least a day old and not the color of guacamole that we expect and get gouged for. Most of us also now how to keep guacamole, staying nice and green. It wasn't nice to look at and tasted worse. The Carne Asada was tasty, the few strips that were actually afforded to the dish and cost an extra three dollars. I'm just sad, I know everything's expensive and everything these days has less meat and lower quality products and smaller portions while prices have increased. But this was all around inconsiderately prepared and is not something I would be proud of serving. I'll give them another shot, and if it's better, I'll update my review. If it's not that'll be my last visit.

David S.

Yelp
Crappy food..taste terrible like ground horse..the bathroom are stinky like sewers back up..no way they pass food safety guide line. I never go there terribly management.

Joy L.

Yelp
Oh tonight Taco King did us wrong. Sad face. Maybe it's because we ordered so late (8pm) and we were getting the end of the food... the fries were disgusting ... like as if they were super old and the meat was crunchy, guacamole was GRAY. They sure didnt look like the appealing pic in the restaurant. My husband's burrito was frozen inside and the side and guacamole (GRAY) were visibly old. My kids food was ok. My gordita, which is usually great, was not good... hardly any ingredients and the corn part wasn't crispy it was slimy. I only ate the meat. We order from Taco King all the time. It's was in our top 3. After tonight's experience my husband said I'm not allowed to order from there because hes convinced the food isnt safe. Boo.

Yelp
Amazing food, turned off of Northern Lights Boulevard and felt like I was in Mexico or California. The staff is smiling, welcoming, friendly and they clearly like their jobs, they laugh and get so well long well with each other it is an absolute pleasure. Authentic food, don't miss the lingua tacos, don't ask what it is just have it, you will never go back. Some days there are pickled onion at the self serve salsa bar, very very good. Will eat most of my meals here the next time I am in Anchorage. Have also enjoyed the Spenard Road location very much. Alomost forgot to mention:Toredos sp? Deep fried fresh jalapeños with lime and delicious seasoning, order two one isn't enough!

Yelp
Quick & dirty: I'm a bell curve kinda gal so this place is decent/good. Seeing it is a chain I'll give it another go elsewhere to judge if this will have to be my go-to Mexican joint. Will try their seafood tacos or burritos a la carte instead because their rice and beans were kind of meh to me. Yelp
Food was a higher price than that shown on website. King burrito was not very flavorful. Selection of sauces was great. Service was prompt. Delivery fee was reasonable.

Bryan B.

Yelp
Service is always great, love the food. We make this a mist stop when we are in Anchorage.

Eric O.

Yelp
Queen Tostada with chicken is disgusting. unfavored boiled shedded chicken. No flavor. No Grill marks. TASTED LIKE VOMIT with the texture I would assume of diahrea. No heat at all to the pico. Are these people Scandinavian ? No heat anywhere. Not in Pico. Not in Salsa. No pickled peppers on the salad. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS AND DISGUSTING. I took a couple bites and threw it away.

Gina L.

Yelp
call mom firstly, the smell of super intense Kostic cleaners was the first thing I smelled wafting out the order window instead of food. They got my order wrong and had to fix it. I asked for salsa on the side they gave me none. I asked for three waters, they gave me none. my taco was not authentic at all, one step up from Taco Bell only because it wasn't ground beef. It was steak shreds but super dry. No onions, no cilantro, no salsa. Instead, shredded iceberg and shredded cheese on a flour tortilla.?! What the heck? I'm from California and I know and authentic Mexican taco and even though the staff looked fully Mexican, this was practically Taco Bell. The nachos were burned, and there was an overall taste of the same cleaner that I smelled wafting out the window on my food. It literally tasted more like cleaner than Mexican food. Completely disappointed I will never go again! Even my very young children were offended lol

Yelp
I came down here for my lunch break yesterday around noon. This Taco King is located at the corner of Northern Lights and A St. in the same shopping plaza that houses Charlie's Bakery, KFC, and Alaska Bagel Restaurant. The dining area is small and can feel cramped during lunch rush. Luckily, there was an open booth by the front door to keep away from the tables in the middle area where the line forms as more customers arrive. The employees are friendly and very efficient with orders, mindful of the time limit that customers have when they come in to eat before going back to work. I decided to try one of their Queen Tostadas with ground beef which I thought was a better option for a lunch portion rather than having a heavy meal and going back to the office tired afterwards. My order came out in just a few minutes after settling down at the booth. The Queen Tostada was surprisingly smaller than I thought it would be. For $8.95, I was hoping for a larger-size shell filled to the top, but mine was equivalent to a bowl that was smaller than a medium size. The ground beef was good with a decent amount of seasonings and the tortilla shell was hot and crispy, but some ingredients were lacking in amount like tomatoes or diced onions and no sign of olives. The refried beans had very little flavor, but the sour cream and the guacamole evened the taste out along with some salsa from the bar. Their Enchiladas and Burritos are heartier and more flavorful for a couple of dollars more to keep this a three star review which doesn't make the Tostada worth ordering again in future visits.

Jin C.

Yelp
Tl;dr: This location isn't as great as the Huffman location, but damn if they don't know how to be efficient here. I had a taco craving the other day and decided to swing by during the lunch rush. The line was nearly at the door at one point, yet the restaurant crew was able to fly through multiple orders without as much as a single complaint from any of the patrons. We were out of there in less than 30 minutes. Like I said, the food doesn't taste quite as good here as their other location, but I suppose that could be attributed to having to churn out orders like their lives depended on it. Still, it's a perfectly acceptable option for a workday lunch. Just get there early and good luck snagging a table.

Ray V.

Yelp
Brown, fermented guacamole on mediocre burrito. I got there just before closing. My recommendation: don't let bad food go out your to go window just because you're about to close.

Tamara D.

Yelp
What a disappointment. We usually go to the spenard one and wish we would've just driven a little further! Several things bummed me out. Was given a dirty cup for water, and the replacement cup was cracked. My chicken chimichanga was noticeably smaller than the ones I get in spenard. The rice was drier than usual and my daughter wouldn't eat as much. The beans portion was super tiny and the lettuce was brown and wilted. The most offensive was my husbands chili verde bowl. It was served in the tiniest bowl. Did they run out of clean regular sized ones? Should've just given three bowls filled in that size and would've been the normal amount. We were charged regular price even though the bowl was snack size. Never again. We're officially loyal to the spenard location only!

Dead M.

Yelp
If you want cheap mexican food and teenagers serving it, come here. Had a chicken enchilada combo. Barely could finish half of it. Chicken meat full of blood vessels and some cartilage. Probably some of the worst mexican food ive had. Tried the place based on what was available in the area, starving and just wanted a hot plate of food. Omg. Wont be back. This is some cheap shizz quality food IMO. Tacobell provides better grub IMO. Got damn.... im going to Humpys tomorrow. Need something with higher quality.

Mona M.

Yelp
I'm here visiting from Houston and was in the mood for Mexican food and they didn't let me down. This place is AWESOME. The food comes out fast and tastes amazing. I would totally recommend stopping by here. They have Mexican music in the background and the stalls have Mexican drawings on them.

Benny H.

Yelp
My family and I have frequented the one on Abbott and the one on Northern Lights for years. We have been very dissatisfied with the poor service, horrible quality and inconsistency of their food, lately. When you try to bring it up to a manager, you get the run around and the phone number to other businesses, owned by the same owner. I personally suspect many of the workers aren't even legally allowed to work here. Many can't even speak English and they usually have one guy that can speak English, but is a total punk, and rude. They act like they don't even care about quality service at all, like they can just drop their jobs at anytime, without any care. Poor attitudes, careless, disrespectful, inconsistent quality of foods, like they are using a different recipe, depending on who decides to show up for work. May or may not have all the regular salsas, available, like they used to. It's all gone way down hill, and I'm angry about it. We won't be going back for a while. Hopefully they improve, or just get washed out.

Silas V.

Yelp
First off, Taco King has never failed me. The f If you're a Hungry Man, the carne asada King or Deluxe burrito will never fail you. They have a nice salsa bar and great horchata. Special tacos are essentially street tacos, lengua is my go to at the moment meat choice, I will try el pastor chicken next time I go! Fried ice cream is an experience, it's awesome!

Brian H.

Yelp
Taco King here in Alaska is probably the closest thing I've found to authentic Mexican food. We just got into town, new to the area, and was looking for something easy and tasty and this fit the bill perfectly. I ordered a taco salad, my wife order beef tacos, and my son had the fish tacos. My salad was a great portion, plenty of meat in the crisp tortilla bowl. The toppings were fresh and the perfect mix. My sons fish tacos and wife's gringo tacos were equally tasty, great sized portions, well seasoned flaky fish, perfectly topped. I also enjoyed he authentic decor of the restaurant. I think I've found my New Mexican spot.

Mike M.

Yelp
Bad review. Food was not great. I asked the guy for pico d guyo while ringing up my order. He brought my big burrito that I paid 20$ for with out it. So I walk up there and ask the other guy who's working "nobody else was in the restaurant". For 2 sides of pico. He gives me attitude. So I pour what amounts to be a tiny amount of pick on my burrito. I like pico. So I ask for more. The way that they responded to me was Extremely rude and I literally thought... what... people give this shit away for free... couldn't believe it. Why the fuck did I tip????? Chipotles gonna put this cheap ass crappy taco place out of business once it comes to Alaska. Stick with qdoba for now people.

Michelle E.

Yelp
Great little taco shop. Vacationing from CA we found this place yummy The carne asada and lingua tacos werevery good.

Shawn K.

Yelp
Taco King usually treats me pretty good, except last night. Ordered 3 meals for delivery, was told it would take 45 minutes to an hour. Great. An hour and 20 minutes passed and I called to see what was up. "Blah, blah, blah, don't worry, I'll take something off of the bill". Great. 25 more minutes pass and the food finally showed up. Cold. With only 1 mild sauce (asked for 6), and 1 FIRE sauce (which I didn't ask for). Gripes from all the eaters, the only solace was knowing it was to be cheaper... Until I check my bank account and find it was not at all cheaper. So, food sucked, I was lied to, and it seems it's time to take a break from Taco King. Enjoy the attached pic, because I sure as hell didn't enjoy eating it.

Bill V.

Yelp
Honestly, doesn't everyone say the best Mexican place is some "hole in the wall" they found? Well I found mine in Anchorage! Absolutely delicious, freshly prepared authentic SoCal Mexican. Service is quick, and they prepare the food "WHEN" you order it. I highly recommend this place. I had the carnitas street tacos with beans and rice. Decided to try a churro on the way out, and I watched the chef actually fry them hot and fresh! What??? Yeah... it's the hole in the wall you've been looking for.

A S.

Yelp
Taco king on northern lights was so disappointing the food was cold the guy was rude like he was mad we came in they close at 10pm we went in at 9pm .they are not friendly they get the food order wrong I would not recommend this place at all

Loren R.

Yelp
Still love their food in general, yet. Yesterday, the spouse and I ordered takeout to be delivered. Food came fast, REAL fast. It seems uncommonly plain and bland, it didn't have the normal complexity to the food. I ordered the king burrito. the next day I mentioned to my wife that I felt like throwing up all night, she admitted that so did she. hmmm...under cooked rushed meat? who knows. I'll give them a break. but try them again later. they usually have a very consistent product.

Randell H.

Yelp
This place is great and dependable. Always great la lengua! Customer service is to be expected from very busy workers. Friendly and willing to help. This is the only Mexican place I've been to that has lengua!

Kellie K.

Yelp
Taco King is AMAZING!! The food is fresh and made to order. The flavor is outstanding and hands down one of my favorite Mexican places I have eaten at! I would recommend you try everything! We tried the beef and chicken tacos. Also the beef enchiladas. My granddaughter is two and she loved all of the above. She also loved the flan and the salsa!

Luzma A.

Yelp
I like this place and love their sopes and salsa bar. I'd eat more there except for the fact that every time I go into one of their establishments, I get stared at by the men working behind the counter and it's quite uncomfortable. Unfortunately it happens at all their places. I prefer their drive thru option where I don't have to walk inside and get these uncomfortable glances.

Scott F.

Yelp
Amazing Authentic Tacos. A must have!! The salsa was true to form. Hot was hot and the medium was just right. We went in for just a snack and were blown away by the amazing tacos!

Wendy L.

Yelp
I'm so disappointed!! Have been a costumer for years!! Called in an order at 3:20...At 5pm but showed to and they were kinda " o'well" and finally took 4.00 off!! So lame... I told driver jeep it all, they blamed you!! Sad...lucky to have good costumers like me that order and tip well...and then to be treated like shit, and lied to. No bueno...

Sergio S.

Yelp
Is negative stars possible? Where do I begin? I called, placed an order, (or at least I thought I did) and then after an hour and a half, I (the customer) had to call back to see what was going on. Come to be told "we ran the card and it said declined" which is absurd. And we called several times. Yet I had no missed calls.....so both my phone and credit card happen to not be working at the same time.....real believable...

Chantel B.

Yelp
Having California roots makes me pretty critical of Mexican food. Walking in, the place doesn't look like somewhere I'd particularly like to dine in, which worked since our plan was to get take-out. There were two people working and only one other person there eating. The area where the drink dispensers and salsa bar is a super tiny corner that comfortably fits one person at a time. It's quite colorful inside and a bit quirky. My boyfriend got a torta (he's the simple one when it comes to food) with asada and an horchata (his first). He loved the horchata and said the torta was okay. Only real critique was the French bread being kind of tough/not fresh. I got a "special taco" with asada and a burrito with chili verde (pork in green sauce). I love that they have the special taco, as that is a typical taco/street taco and Mexican food to a T for me. I thought the asada had great flavors and was overall happy with the taco. The burrito was a different style than I'm used to, having the meat/beans inside with sauce, cheese, sour cream on the outside/on top of it. When I think burrito, it's something I can eat with my hands. Nonetheless, the burrito exceeded my expectations! The chili verde was absolutely delicious and while the pork was slightly dry at times, the sauce made it okay. I was also a big fan of their rice. All in all, great spot when I want some tacos, something quick, or am wanting something big. The portions are BIG. The child may be "house made," but they're def not fresh. After coming here and seeing how it's all made, I realize it's basically fast food, not really cooked to order. But it is yummy and I'm sure we'll be back. Would be more stars if it was cleaned up a bit inside and the food items were fresher/cooked to order.

Carla R.

Yelp
I ate here frequently when we lived here Sep 2006 to Aug 2009. I enjoyed it very much. I would dare say it is to me the better Mexican place in town. It is always clean in there, and the workers are pleasant. I like the salsa bar it is a nice touch. I liked the Tortas, I usually got the carne asada. I liked the pozole and there is nothing as delicious as a nice bowl of hot soup on a cold day so I was there often for that one. The prices are not bad, again this is Alaska and you will have to pay more for everything. Give them a try.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I love their carne asada tacos, chicken chimichongas and halibut tacos. They are fast and friendly. It's my favorite quick to pick up lunch stop!

David T.

Yelp
I used to go to the taco king on spenard and always enjoyed their food. They had excellent burritos, enchiladas, salads and quesadillas. They also made great fried ice cream and flan too. The restaurant was very vibrant, colorful and inviting. I enjoyed eating in with friends as well as take out too. They also deliver which is fantastic. The restaurant puts tiny plastic side cups out with salsa and sour cream to take for free! It was nice to take an extra side cup or two of sour cream.

Tom W.

Yelp
Stopped by finally! Small dining area, busy the whole time we were there. Order at the counter, they brought it to our table, salsa bar and drink station-self serve. Ordered the lengua combo with corn tortillas. Excellent! Best meal I have had in a few weeks!

J. L. F.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. Not only is this inauthentic Mexican food, it is almost non edible. The food is disgusting. I should've walked right back out the door when they greeted me "how ya doing amigo." I know the competition is low in Alaska, but this is completely unacceptable. I'm never going to this location or any other again.

Kathy D.

Yelp
The stress of cooking a family dinner for 30 while visiting Alaska got to be too much! I called and Miguel helped me with catering a taco bar. Best idea ever! The food and service was completely OUTSTANDING!!! Everyone loved it!! Thank you!!

Miranda S.

Yelp
Good place to go for an inexpensive, quick meal. I became hooked as a UAA undergrad. Carne asada king burrito every time! I ask for extra salsa and sour cream and drench my burrito and refried beans (not into the side of rice here or anywhere). The lunch specials can be good too: you basically get a free drink with the featured entree. Their chicken soup is legit, especially when you have a cold. Their customer service is great too. Memorably, one night we were over there with my picky toddler who only wanted to eat meat. When my little guy ate everything off my plate, I tried to pay for a side of chicken but they just hooked me up gratis. Also, I'm a sucker for any place with a good salsa bar and Taco King delivers there too.

Lesley L.

Yelp
I found taco king in Fairbanks five years ago and was excited to know they have locations in Anchorage. So every summer since then I myself at taco king again. It never disappoints.

Cristi C.

Yelp
I thought the food quality would have gotten fixed by now after the last time I visited this location over a year ago but it hasn't at all, it's just as bad if not worse. I usually get the lengua but decided not to considering the crap I received the last time I had ordered from this location, so got the carne asada instead. And I'm so not exaggerating when I say that that was the toughest, most unflavorful meat I've ever had, and of course just my luck even the rice tasted like crap. Never eating at this location again.

Jordan R.

Yelp
It was great. Next time I'll just go ahead and order the plate. Because three delicious tacos sitting there all by them selves was a bit disappointing. So lesson learned get the beans and rice too.

Tim K.

Yelp
I'm a burrito lover and the 4-5 token burritos they serve are large and tasty (carne asada king burrito!!) Our Company orders delivery often and they always arrive with plenty of sour cream, guac, pico de gallo, hot and mild sauces and flatware to cover down on everyone. While I feel most Mexican menus are almost always the same (#16 is always the beef and bean burrito...heh), this menu delivers on size and quality taste. It's a notch below Gallos but they deliver and you essentially could have 2 miles for the price of 1.

Brenda L.

Yelp
I just got hanged up on, because I was looking up the address to deliver. Terrible service, so much for great cheap food. Ew!

Liz T.

Yelp
So impressed with the food here! I ordered a halibut taco and 2 carne asada tacos. So tasty, seasoned well and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!!
