The Traditions of Día de los Muertos Nourish the Living, Too

"I learned that Ana Castro put a version of arroz a la Mexicana (an elevated take with bottarga) on the opening menu of her restaurant, Lengua Madre, to honor her grandfather Manuel Castro Fernandez; she says you can add frozen peas, carrots, or corn if you like, but don’t skip the fried egg — it binds the entire dish and turns an everyday plate into something completely different." - Sam Gutierrez

The meat and rice smelled spoiled or old. When we told them, they still charged the burrito because of the bites my Dad took out. It couldn't be finished though. Very disappointed in the food quality. Not worth the stop unfortunately.

Google
we live 4hrs away we were up in Ocala to sell a car, and stopped by for a meal b4 getting on the road. food was great, till they accidentally charged me $3,715 for our meal!!!!! left my account ripped and being the end of the month left me short on a couple of bills. they processed a refund but kept the charge pending meaning we would have to wait days to receive our money back, unless they called the merchant side of our bank and reverse it, when we called them to ask them to do this, the person who answered had the audacity to tell us we still have a pending balance for our meal, told us the manager will call us about that, as if they didn't make the mistake of taking all of our money basically and leaving us without even gas money, thank god we had a full tank and friends to help. if this didn't happen they would've been 5 stars, if they didn't treat us like crap just now trying to resolve this, would've been 4 stars just bc of it being a mistake, and the girl who did it was very sorry. but now how they handled this has been terrible. i hope when this manager calls he's not difficult with me and my wife bc we really just want our money back to be able to pay things, they made the mistake this shouldn't even be in question yet here we are. edit: manager was cool and handled it, havent received them money back yet but it should be there tmw. again food is great just make sure to double check how much ur paying

There were flies everywhere on my food, napkins and when I said something management acted like I was crazy saying anything about it. It was normal. Don't waste your money here.

The Case of the Pricey Plates: Tacos and Madre, Ocala Review Let's break down Tacos and Madre in Ocala. If you’re tired of Americanized Mexican food—you know, the stuff that all tastes the same—this place is a genuine palate cleanser. They are absolutely serving up the real deal. The food itself is legitimately tasty. The flavors are deep, the preparation is authentic, and it hits different than your typical taco joint. Even though I usually prefer that comfort-food, American style, I can’t deny how good this stuff is. It earned a solid 8 out of 10 for quality and flavor. Seriously, the cooks are crushing it. Now, for the issue that requires investigation: the bill. Tacos and Madre runs strictly à la carte, and those little charges stack up faster than you can say "guacamole." My small lunchtime order—three tacos, a side of chips and salsa, some queso dip, and a drink—came out to a shocking $24.00. For lunch portions, that’s just way too steep. It’s the kind of price point you expect for a full dinner or a massive takeout order, not a quick midday bite. The verdict: Go for the incredible, authentic food. It’s some of the best you’ll find in Ocala. Just treat the menu like a minefield and keep a calculator handy, because those single items will drain your wallet quicker than you realize. They nailed the food; they missed the mark on value. Update after reading other 1 star reviews. The common complaints can be summed up by this: "This isn't that Americanized Mexican food we are used to." I get it. I learned the difference while living in gainesville. A niche crowd of foodies raved about el indio. The first time I tried it, I would have offered a 1 star because it wasn't what I was used to. It was only after my foodie friends explained to me the difference between American Mexican and authentic Mexican that I got the nuance. Try it. Its different but different can be good if you are open to the experience.

Google
I have no idea what happened to the place, but it used to be quite good, and now they're really, really bad. Took one hour of waiting for a burrito and two tacos before I finally became irritated enough to ask. Turns out they had been chilling on top of the counter long enough to have gone cold. I'd already paid, so they had no obligation to be refused or make a new order. Trust me, I tried. The girls at the front really could not have cared less, gave me the bag, and said adios. Two of them were sleeping in booths on opposite ends of the restaurant. Food is 2/10 compared to what used to be 7-8/10 for the price. Not worth it. Go elsewhere, trust me.

Google
The food was excellent, the service was exceptional, and the restaurant offered an authentic Mexican dining experience. The location was convenient, the service was prompt, and overall, I had an amazing visit

Kym Z.

Google
Small restaurant, no real vibe and the food was mediocre at best. Tortilla shells were small and very dry and I'm pretty sure they were stale. I can't say there was anything that good to really write about here. It was fair and I'm trying to be nice. I wouldn't go back for a second time.

Google
The food was ok. Not the best Mexican we've ever had, but they gave us plenty. We had the fish (Mojarra) I could taste the LAKE water lol and the grease it was fried in, also parts of the fish were dark brown (skipped those), but their grilled chicken, rice, and beans were good. Guacamole was fresh but lacking any flavor (had none of the ingredients/flavors that guac normally has; salt, jalapeño, lime, tomatoes, onions)...food in general was lacking flavor. Service was nice! Place is small and cute
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Small place with a handful of tables. Service was reasonable. If you want chips and salsa they are extra and the salsa was just ok. The meals were all good, everyone was too busy eating to say much. My beef was very flavorful, best I've had in a while. My dish came with corn tortillas, wish I would've noticed I would have preferred flour, but that's on me. Prices were not bad. I would definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Sarra P.

Yelp
If you're looking for quality Mexican food at inexpensive prices - without concern for aesthetics then this is the place. The restaurant itself looks more like a cheap fast food chain; you're not impressing anyone on a first date here... but if you just are dying for good restaurant quality food made quickly and you don't care if you're sitting on a Taco Bell bench eating it - GET THIS PLACE ON YOUR LIST.

Yelp
Service !!!! Rudest young girl servers ever !!! Food went way downhill. Flies all over !!!!

Yelp
Food was very nice! I got the steak tostada which was wonderful. Rice and beans were typical, but still enjoyable. Service was a little slow but very kind. It was clean with no crumbs or anything in the chairs or seats. I would certainly go again. I highly recommend using their salsa verde.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
2pm on a Saturday and all the tables were occupied except one. I sat and after studying the menu for an extended time, one of the young ladies came by and apologized for my wait. "Can I get your drink order?" She went and pulled a beer from the cooler and I had enough time to drink half of it before another young lady took my food order. Not exactly speedy service. The burrito was good. Nicely filled but the fillings were all layered. One bite of salsa. Next bite of sour cream and lettuce. Next bite of chicken. It was all tasty but this method of filling the "King Burrito" meant that there was no melding of flavors. [Review 19130 overall - 1597 in Florida - round number 100 of 2023.]

Yelp
Food was amazing and FRESH! Carne asada fresh grilled black marks on it and corn tortillas fresh and grilled! Price was perfect! I highly recommend this amazing Mexican food place!

Rico R.

Yelp
When you see the place it looks like it would be good but pleaseeeeee don't waste your time or money on this place. super horrible waiter. I asked her to change my horchata because it was super watery and she rolled her eyes at me because i asked her to change it to something else. Also the can be compared to tacobell and even them have a bit better stuff. Between the food taste and the customer service. This place gonna shut down eventually. Thats was my first and last time i wish i would of used a credit card so i can get my momey back and i wish i can get my time back.

Yelp
If you know me , you know that Tacos are a very serious matter for me! This location isn't far down the road from my house, which thrills me to death! I order the tacos(Barbacora) which comes with onions and cilantro sprinkled on top, I do recommend this but I would also request that they take it easy on the onions! =X eek! Now, for your drink, of course ALWAYS GO FOR THE HORCHATA! And the best for the last ... cake cake cake! TRES LECHES cake duh! Hands down, that cakes the best around!! And one more very awesome perk... (drive-through / pick-up window available !!) curb-side service tacos. That's a win!

Jennifer O.

Yelp
This restaurant has roaches!! I was so grossed out. When I told the waitress and the owner they were less than apologetic, actually very rude when I pointed it out. I was so grossed out, I'll never step into that place again. Now I see why they have Help Wanted signs.

Hans S.

Yelp
Lets see a picture of the back of the building. Last i saw roach spray on a shelf, available as needed.

Yelp
I didnt pick up the food, my wife did so I cant comment on the store and its appearance. I did however call the order in and the lady on the phone was polite and courteous. Her english was good, which sometimes when you call places and english isnt their first language it can be difficult. I wish my spanish was as good as her english. The food. So I ordered 3 tacos (pork, forget what theyre called) with onions and NO cilantro. When I got them it was ALL cilantro. Like a GIANT heap of it, in each taco. Im the stereotypical white dude where cilantro tastes like soap so I couldnt even eat it. And there was soooo much of it, scraping it off wasnt an option. The wife ordered a burrito with asada as the meat, no cilantro. Same thing, a giant gob of cilantro. She can tolerate it more than i can, so we switched meals as it was a little easier to scoop off of hers. Soap taste aside, the flavor was alright. Not much flavor to the meat as a whole. I added the rice and refried beans to the burrito and it certainly helped. The refried beans are good. She did not like the tacos at all. Said they had absolutely zero flavor. Very bland. Kids both got mexican grilled cheese with chicken (quesadillas). They didnt like them either. One said there was waayyyy to much cheese and the other just wasnt a fan. This place is pretty close to us and we were hopeful we'd have a nice go to take out mexican place. Guess we have to keep looking. Wont be back.

Yelp
I scream you scream TACOS... and I'm screaming Taco N Madre for life! Ha! Hands down, this restaurant is a must: · Restaurant is always clean (including restrooms) · Staff is friendly (always smiling) · Food is ready in less than 15minutes · Corn Tortillas are home-made: The BEST corn tortillas ever! Soft and chewy. · Red and Green sauces are home-made: Free, just ask. The green sauce is spicier and definitely my favorite. · Horchata is home-made: Go get some right now!! RUN! Everything served here is freshly made, like Mi Madre just cooked dinner and rang that dinner bell, better believe I'm grabbing a seat haha! :D I've had: · Steak Tacos: seasoned Steak, Cilantro, and onions, on a homemade corn tortilla. This taco is my Fav! The steak is lean (no fat), juicy, and seasoned, while the corn tortillas are soft and chewy, just be sure to add some green sauce, if you like it a little spicy... like me hehe · Chicken Tacos: diced Chicken, Cilantro, and onions, on a homemade corn tortilla. · Rice and Beans: Both are great, and not dry or tasteless like most places. · Horchata: Milky Spanish drink, typically made from rice flour, this one also has cinnamon. Okay I have never had Horchata before, and I doubt I will every have Horchata like this anywhere else. It's like drinking the best dessert you could ever dream of and it washes down that spicy Green Sauced taco like you're on vacation. They make it in house and it's a MUST! I would advise you go "Large"...Trust me! Not only is the food delish and fresh but the prices are amazing! · 3 tacos (any meat), rice and beans only $7.75! · Single taco (any meat) only $1.99! They have the absolute best tacos! They have several meat options: Steak, Pork, Mexican BBQ, Chicken, Beef Tongue, Beef Tips, Cabeza, and Carnitas. So get to picking, and enjoy that smile on your face when you take your first to last bite. :D Great for pick-up or dine-in, I've done both and I'll be back soon, hope to see ya there! :D

Yelp
Best food in Ocala hands down. Clean building, fresh food, kind staff. We love you taco n madre.

Jim H.

Yelp
Delicious! I was driving through town looking for some Mexican food and found this place. I ordered the steak special dinner and it was fantastic!

Cecilia L.

Yelp
Food was terrible no flavor, the rice was mushy. Service was poor. I had ordered the food for take out when I picked it up I was missing my drinks. I won't comeback there. Restaurant is dirty.
google avatar

Dave R.

Yelp
Came here with my family and had to walk out. Completely ignored and not worth the "positive reviews". Waited 15 minutes to get served only to get some menus. Avoid this place.
google avatar

Eric E.

Yelp
I was expecting something else. The menudo was a tomato broth with huge chunks of tripe instead of small cuts. There was no hominy. The tripas tacos were ground tripas. That was strange. The shrimp al mojo were absolutely hammered. Service was fine and the price was ok, but the food was not that good.
google avatar

Yelp
This joint is officially san-diego-girlfriend-approved! We ordered barbacoa, carne asada, and pastor tacos, and a combo platter with lengua and pastor tostadas. Meat portions were GENEROUS, and their flavor & tenderness were just as eye-opening. Their house salsa verde and smoky red salsa are also unique to the area. Prices were great and location is just across Pine Ave from Broadway in Ocala downtown.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Banging ass tacos! Their green and red sauce adds that extra KA-POW! If you haven't tried a menu item from this establishment yet, do yourself a favor and get over there.

Domi H.

Yelp
i am a regular, my orders are always right everytime i ask for extra limes or salsas they put more then enough for my to go's, while im dining in i never had issues, food is always nice and warm they're quick to fix any mistakes if made when its the kitchens fault. 10/10 recommend the tacos de lengua, the steak and chicken combo is to die for and the compadres so fire!!! they always play the best music and have the cutest decorations makes it an even better experience!!! #stayblessed

Yelp
Yum. Yum. Yum. Ever since a friend introduced me to a "Sope" - I'm addicted and I will crave them. Whenever I go to a restaurant without them, I'm disappointed (went to a Taco joint in Atlanta last week without one Sope in sight). And this delicious little hole in the wall with a fabulous staff has the best Sopes that I've found. I'd you have kids, their quesadillas and tacos are a bit different to what they're probably used to (corn tortilla) but if they're open minded - no worries. Recommend the Sope de Carne, Mexican BBQ, and chicken. I can't say the others are bad because I've never had them.... it's hard to branch out when you're having a craving!
google avatar

Roger S.

Yelp
Great place to take out. Have eaten in before and for the money, legit Mexican food for a reasonable price. Had the steak with guacamole and beans/rice. Well done and tasty. Worthwhile and very good. Don't let the exterior bother you. Takeout or eat in is a good deal.
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
For a place that only has a few items on the menu, they really do them well. Refreshing agua frescas (we had pineapple and hibiscus), and a variety of grilled and roasted meats prepared in simple tacos, burritos, tostadas. The carne asada had a wonderful char grilled flavor. Red and green salsas brought to the table packed some heat! No frills. Great price. Authentic simple meat-centric Mexican.
google avatar

Dene R.

Yelp
Placed an order over the phone to pick up. As soon as we got home, the first bite I was hooked. It brought my husband and I back to burritos on Mission St in San Francisco, CA. That is a major compliment. The service here is amazing, very friendly, great quality ingredients, cooked to order and delicious. We ordered carne asada (steak) king burrito for each of us. It truly is carne asada, the fresh cilantro, onion, beans, rice are so tasty. The flavors all compliment each other very well. This food is completely worth the money, which is affordable. We will definitely be coming back to try other food items!
google avatar

Tonya B.

Yelp
This is a cute little local Mexican restaurant that you may not even know about if you aren't from the area. The service is fast but still friendly. Both food and atmosphere feel very authentic. We ordered the King Steak Burritos and the portions were large and definitely didn't disappoint our hungry appetites. The flavors are so delicious, they may leave you to wonder if you've even had real burritos before trying them here! Outstanding!
google avatar

Tasha M.

Yelp
Yuck. Just not good. Located in a seedy area. Ok, some of the best spots are in areas like this. Doesnt scare me off a bit. Beer and wine only. The atmosphere seems more like a fast food restaurant than a sit down. There were several to go orders when we were there. Prices are just fine but here is the kicker. The ingredients are so cheap. You can truly tell in the flavors and execution. Just cheap quality. My barbocoa taco was probably the worst I can remember having. The salsa left much to be desired. Over all just not a good meal. A table of four and everyone agreed. If I had to do it over again I would skip it.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Their food is solid. Best Mexican in the downtown Ocala part of town. I order ahead on some days that I'm working from home and spin by their pickup window. Al pastor or carne asada are my go to proteins. Their consume soup is also super good!

Nickoda M.

Yelp
The best Mexican food in the area! Their menudo and all their tacos are my favorite! The service is quick and the servers are friendly. The decor is typical and low key.
google avatar

Evan G.

Yelp
Taco 'N Madre on Pine Avenue in Ocala is a great place to go for delicious Mexican food that is well prepared. I really like all of their menu items and good everything here tastes. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating to make sure that you have everything that you need.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Terrible service and always get the orders wrong. They lie to their customers. The soups are bland along with their foods .
google avatar

Armi S.

Yelp
First time here we tried the al pastor burrito and carne asada tacos. The burrito was full of filing, good flavor but a bit oily. The tacos however seemed to lack seasoning and a charred flavor as well as a bit oily.the tortillas were very good! Limes and sauces were fresh and tasty. Waitress was pleasant, facility seemed very clean as well. Work on those items and we could get the rating up higher.

Kenny B.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was on point. I would recommend this place for lunch anytime.
google avatar

Pedro B.

Yelp
Didn't enjoy it. Food was ok and service was great but it was very expensive and the dining room was falling apart and dirty. Air conditioning condensate water dripping on us, tables and chairs are uncomfortable and wobbly.

David A.

Yelp
Clean, friendly staff, fair to good service, average food. Pricing was good but atmosphere was very plain, felt like fast food.
google avatar

Neil P.

Yelp
Why 5 stars because the food is so authentic you think you walked into a Taqueria in Mexico. To start with the chips are fried perfectly and when you order them you get salsa with them and their's is a smooth sauce not chunky (we love chunky ) but don't let that stop you- it is very good. I ordered the cheese dip and that was good also. With a choice of meat- things start to get interesting! Steak, pork, Mexican BBQ, chicken, beef tongue and beef tripe. So with tacos you can have two more choices cabeza (beef head ) and pork carnitas. I tried 2 tacos one steak and one pork. They put cilantro and onion on soft corn tortillas only so cheese and other toppings are extra and they don't serve hard shell! My wife even ordered the beef tongue taco and believe it or not- it was amazing! Don't knock it before you try it because it tastes like super tender roast beef. I also ordered the King Burrito, that thing is huge! Steak or chicken is offered so I tried the steak, it was so tender and seasoned perfectly. The burrito has tomato, lettuce, onion, cilantro, cheese, sour cream and rice, beans - wow now I am hungry! Service is fast and friendly. Our waitress took the time to explain the menu. Very nice and clean restaurant and bathrooms too, nicely decorated inside you will surely enjoy this place! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Wow, the closest thing I have found in Florida to authentic Mexican food and it is right here in Ocala. I was a few miles down the road and had just finished riding the amazing mountian biking trails here in Ocala. When I felt a pain in my stomach that only tacos and beer could quench. So what do I do? A search on Yelp of course. Low and behold Taco N Madre is the first on the list. With great reviews and such a good rating its a no brainer. Bikes packed and we're on are way. This is one of the greatest little finds that Yelp has led me to. Doesn't look like too much from the outside and the inside ins't overly exciting either. But once you enter you realize there is something a little different here. I was politely greeted as soon as I entered and told sit where ever I wanted. First thing I noticed was how clean this place was kept. They definitely take pride in there store. If it's this clean out front I feel good that the back is held up to the same standard. The waitresses that have served me here have all gone above and beyond what would normally expected. All have been honest and extremely helpful in their recommendations. Not that I have ever had a bad plate here, but in whether I should try something new like tongue, cabeza, tripe or cactus. I have tried two of the before mentioned and have ordered them again. Not going to tell which ones, you'll have to explore on your own. I will say they were both delicious and I will in time try the other two. As for the other more traditional meat selections, they are just as good. The carnitas and barbacoa being my personal favorites. Any meat whether it's in taco, burrito or tostada is an experience worth trying. Also worth mentioning is the King Burrito, Quesadillas, chips, salsas and guacamole. I have been back here many times since I originally found them. It has become part of my post bike riding routine. Each and every time I return I have the same great experience. With fantastic service, waitresses and food what's not to love about Taco N Madre. I have also introduced quite a few others to this little treasure. All leaving as big a fan as myself. So that being said, Yes, I will be back. Yes, you should try them. Yes, I definitely recommend them. So if you decide to stop here and you see a guy inside dressed in biking clothes, say hi. If it's me and your feeling adventurous maybe we can try some of the more daring menu items together. Cheers and enjoy.

Yelp
This little taqueria in Ocala is hands down one of my favorite Mexican places to eat. If you're looking for simple but authentic Mexican food then this is the place to try! The restaurant itself is small but nice and clean looking on the outside as well as the interior. Not upscale fancy nor a fast food place, it reminds me of a Mexican Mom and Pop's diner. The staff is pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. Most of the wait staff is bilingual, speaking English and Spanish well. This comes in handy because both times we were here a large portion of their customers were Hispanic. This tells me the food is authentic and very good! They answered our questions very well and offered up suggestions on both our visits. The menu has a nice variety, it is by no means a large menu but it hits all the notes that it needs. Tacos are served in only soft corn tortillas that are a little thicker than most. You choose your filling - choices range from Steak Asada to Pork Carnitas to El Pastor (pork with a sauce and pineapple) to Lengua (beef tongue). They are topped with a sprinkle of onion and fresh cilantro. Simple but delicious! You can add cheese, sour cream and other toppings but I didn't add anything except for their homemade hot sauces. One green jalapeno sauce and one red sauce with a hotter chili (I believe Habenaro) that come in squeeze bottles that are brought to the table with the meal. I just put some sauce on my tacos and that was it. I let the meat shine through and boy oh boy - it did. I ordered the Steak Asada, El Pastor and Lengua tacos. I know from watching Food Network that Lengua tacos are quite popular in Mexico so I needed to try it and see for myself. All three tacos were delicious. The Asada was thinly sliced and so tender and juicy - a delight to eat. El Pastor had a red, slightly sweet and smoky sauce over the pork meat. Very good- my husband's favorite and the Lengua was surprisingly delicious. Small tender cubes of tongue were flavored very well. My husband had a bite and gave his seal of approval and said "It's like eating tender roast beef!" I had to agree! Rice is very good, not too moist and not too dry. Not overloaded with tons of mixed vegetables- just a few here and there. Now to the refried beans. I have to admit I am a refried bean snob! My husband makes a killer pot of refried beans. He learned to make them homemade from his next door neighbor who happened to be a Mexican lady. They are garlicky, creamy deliciousness with small chunks of chopped beans for a little texture. He puts most restaurants to shame. There is nothing worse than a pile of pale, pureed, bland pinto beans that most Mexican places serve. No flavor just a glob of beans that could be used as wallpaper glue. Taco N Madres refried beans are different however! They have FLAVOR, they have texture and are in a solid second place for best refried beans that I have eaten! I think their secret is lard- not 100% sure but as we all know- fat is flavor! A delicious authentic meal that leaves me craving for more! We will be back many, many times!

Chris F.

Yelp
Stopped by while we were in town and so glad we did! Tacos were great, their carne asada is awesome and they give you plenty of it but my favorite part was their fantastic horchata :) def recommend if you're looking for something very filling and delicious while on the road

Yelp
This is decent Mexican food, but still no match for what I've had back in NY, in LA, Houston and other places.
google avatar

Leslie H.

Yelp
Hands down the best, reasonably priced, authentic Mexican food in Ocala. I keep trying to order something other than the King Burrito, but have not been able to resist yet. Will continue to try....
google avatar

Amber W.

Yelp
Keep driving... cheap tasting greasy ingredients. Tacos only come with onion and cilantro, asked if there was lettuce and tomato was told no and no offering to purchase those items. Chips and queso also sub par, better off purchasing Tostitos and grocery store queso. Flies all over the place also. Huge turn off for cleanliness. I'm a fan of authentic Mexican food and for myself to not eat it....save your money and go to los macgueyes... excellent Mexican cuisine there.
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
I'm a vegetarian and their veggie burrito is large , tasty , and so freshly made ! Very authentic and they put fresh cilantro in it too. ! I'll return for sure and look forward to trying their guacamole dip on my next visit. ! Bravo Taco N Madre. !

Yelp
Driving down the highway, Ocala had terrible traffic due to accident, so we thought we'd stop and get a bite. It was 11 AM on Saturday and all the restaurants were packed with people. We did not want to deal with all that! We were going to give up when we spotted this place. There was no one in the little restaurant. They had excellent service and delicious, authentic Mexican food. Husband had carne asada and I had chicken tacos and beans. Their homemade red and green hot sauce was excellent. They had a restroom as well. So glad we stopped here!

Mason S.

Yelp
AMAZING. Some of the best tacos/burritos you'll find in central Florida. I'll drive from Gainesville for these burritos and take a few back home every couple weeks.

Lori A.

Yelp
I don't care what anyone says... this is the best authentic mexican food that I have had in a very long time. Looks like a little mom and pop place and the food tastes FRESH AND DELICIOUS! I live in Ocala and come as often as I can.
google avatar

Brianna G.

Yelp
A friend of mine introduced me to this place and I'm not mad at all! The food came out fast and was extremely good. I do wish the chips would've been fresher because the queso at this restaurant is amazingggg. I will definitely be coming back when i'm in the area again.
google avatar

Tycho T.

Yelp
Garbage. It's funny reading words like "authentic" in other reviews. Really shows a sad lack of exposure to Hispanic food. Yeah.... cheese whiz isn't authentic, y'all. Even the name is ridiculous. Taco and mother? Wtf could that possibly mean?? It's like they're laughing at anyone stupid enough to go to this crap hole dive.

Yelp
On the search for a good taco joint in town, I decided to give this place a try after seeing some good yelp reviews. Despite being in a rougher area, I knew that sometimes this is where the best places are. We went inside and wasn't sure if we got seated or just sat down. Nobody acknowledged us, so we just sat down and waited. After a good 5-7 minutes we finally got someone to come over with menus. I wasn't bothered at this point, and proceeded to glance around. One thing I will say is that this place really needs a better clean and the tables should be cleaned in between guests, ours was clearly not, but not a big deal. Food gets ordered and was out pretty quickly. I ordered a chicken burrito which looked great. Once I started diving into it, I felt a bit disappointed in the lack of taste, along with the chicken which didn't look or feel like chicken at all. I was almost convinced I had gotten some kind of pork? I'm not sure. It was quite a dark meat, rough and dry on texture. Queso wasn't bad, but a little salty, but again, small things I can look past. It wasn't until later that evening you get that feeling in your stomach like something is wrong. Well it was! While I don't have a super sensitive stomach, it takes a bit to turn mine upside down. I'm not sure what did it, wether lack of sanitation, or not changing gloves (if any) in the kitchen, or just undercooked/bad meat? Im really not sure, but needless to say, I will not be coming back Lastly, speaking of the service, it felt extremely slow and as if our server had forgotten about us. I say that because we never got checked back on, and we sat at the table talking for a good 15 minutes before we asked ourselves "do we pay up front or will they bring a check?"

Yelp
This review is not based on their food. I walked in to pick up a delivery. Waited patiently as instructed to. As I am waiting, one of the servers is cursing up a storm as she is reading a to go order. Questioning why the customer ordered so much. I don't think that was professional at all. If that is the kind of establishment they want customers to see them as. Please disregard this review. As an outsider just waiting to pick up an order. I thought it was extremely unprofessional.
