Taco Tontos

Love this place. I had the breakfast burrito and Corvette summer Margarita. Nice staff and great food. Since the weather was so nice (late September) we used the tables outside and we added some more Margaritas - all good however The Corvette summer was my favorite. We will be back in October when I visit Ohio again. Hopefully we can sit outside then. If not the seating area inside is also very nice.

Food was absolutely amazing! (Note: This is not a traditional Mexican restaurant.) The food was fantastic, and the service was even better! The staff was helpful, friendly, and fun. It's a small place with limited seating, but on nice days, you can enjoy your meal outside if you grab a patio table. My wife had two mixed drinks and enjoyed both. It's definitely worth checking out—just keep in mind, this isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant The picture is the "Ron Swanson"

If you're looking for a great burrito, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere, this place is a must visit. The food is made with love, and you can really taste the quality. My personal favorite is the Saturday brunch burrito—it’s always delicious! Be sure to check out their weekly specials too! You won't be disappointed.

Great small taco joint! We ordered a few items to try them all and they didn’t disappoint. They were packed when we arrived but even with the slower service we were not upset! The staff was kind and helpful.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE HERE From the friendly, fun staff to the colorful environment and most importantly the amazing food. Never a so-so taco from here it's always superb. Great drink menu, in-house specials you can find written on the wall with the best around salsas hands down. Tried the taco salad for the first time here and yum. Generouse amount. The street corn nachos are always fave go to appetizer for all of us. And let's not forget their in house made hot sauce! 2 thumbs up!

Awesome restaurant! Huge tacos! Definitely go if you haven’t! I was satisfied with the vegetarian options they had as well, but they’re not incredibly healthy options. They incorporate black/pinto beans, rice, and potatoes. I also got the pick 3 salsas and added some of those to my tacos. Very small indoor seating area. Really good guac and homemade hot + mild sauces. NO bathroom as far as I could tell which was really inconvenient.

This place has a chill, good times vibe! The food is awesome and there are daily specials. This is the ideal place to come enjoy downtown Kent, OH. Order your food, have a beer and a shot while you wait, eat outside in the public park seating, and carry a nice cocktail around DORA area with you. Its also nice to carry your food downtown to the nearby river and eat on the rocks or enjoy music in the park.

Great place in Kent. Have been going there (and the original location) for decades. Food is consistently good. Hoof Hearted on tap. Special/rotating hot sauces. Recommend the burrito.

I love this place! This is my favorite spot to get a burrito and go! I get the chicken burrito every time. The chicken is very flavorful and the tortillas they use are grilled and come out all warm. The topics that they use seem to be fresh or pretty new. The people that work there are great and are always nice and helpful if you don't know what to get. As for the sitting, it is a very small area. At times if you come at a busy time, don't expect much places to sit and be ready to take the food home or sit outside. However when you do get the chance to sit, the tables are very clean, along with the seats. Definitely recommend trying this place if you haven't.

Love this place! One of my favorites. So many options for everyone even if you are a vegan! Even better than barrio in my opinion.

Ridiculous wait time, I ordered a burrito and waited an hour! Never coming back, it's definitely not worth the extreme wait time wouldn't recommend.

This place is the real deal. Way ahead of chipotle in the huge burrito game and absolutely unique in being a foodie dream. Options you would not expect in a typical taco joint (sweet potato's?!) There are options for the vegetarian's, the vegan's and the gluten free. The service is top notch, you can tell the people working here love their job. The atmosphere is eclectic in the best way possible, generally great music too! It's proximity to the Kent stage make it a great place to hang out before a show, or take a short walk over to acorn alley for some shop hopping.my ONLY complaint is the lack of seating. Just wish there was more of it.

Still holds up decades later, except possibly cleaner and better ingredients now. Order it from the Zephyr patio.

Always super kind people and cute place. The food isn't my favorite Mexican in kent, however it definitely is a staple and i can see why so many people love it! It's just not my personal favorite, but that does not mean that it's not a good place!

A small and colorful place that was packed with people eating there, taking it to go, or picking up orders. With only a couple workers, they were doing a great job at keeping up and making great flavorful food. The vegan brunch burrito was the best burrito I have ever had! The vegan egg, spinach, and vegan cheese tasted just like a omelet, the potato's were cooked perfectly soft but held their shape, the vegan sour cream added creaminess, the pico was fresh and bright, and the chorizo spiced tofu-seitan mix was super flavorful and tasted like a firmer and less greasy chorizo which I really liked. The smokey hot cilantro sauce was the perfect, spicy, herby, smokey contrast to the hearty burrito. They also have mild and hot salsa that you can fill little paper cups with for your table and they were both good.

The service was solid. Food was prepared in ample time and came out as expected. We ordered the pork nachos and it was big enough for two adults and then some! Price was fair! Cool vibe in the restaurant and outside.

I can see why people rave about this place. Wonderful huge burritos that are half grilled. I had the Sweet Potato Burrito. Easily one of the best burritos I ever had. Get it with the Smoky Hot Cilantro sauce. Best sauce ever. Very small, but very nice staff and cool, eclectic atmosphere.

We wanted to try a new taco spot and had heard some amazing things about this place online. It did not disappoint! There is not a lot of indoor seating and if you're going to order at dinner time, I highly suggest you consider ordering ahead of time, or just be prepared to wait. We orders the nachos and a taco basket of three tacos of the day - the banh mi tacos - to share. We weren't sure if this would be enough for two hungry people, but we couldn't even finish it and had to take some home. The nachos were incredible - crisp, flavorful, with a kick. The tacos were very wet - get napkins!- but again, great flavor and very filling. We are definitely looking forward to returning to this place sometime soon.

There's nothing better than getting off work at KSU, heading to Zephyr for a cocktail, and then ordering Taco Tonto's (which has a convenient pick-up window on the Zephyr patio). There are terrific daily specials and deals, especially Tuesday's $5.00 taco special. I love the-layer with queso as the "lube." I recently tried their Friday blackened fish burrito bowl, and that was killer. I loved the house pickled veggies. I've yet to have something I don't like here, and of the other options for tacos downtown, this is the best by FAR in terms of both the food quality and the value. The toast on the burritos is always perfection. Chips are seasoned really nicely. House-made condiments like the scorpion sauce add surprising heat and flavor. Even when slammed, the staff are really friendly. It's hard to imagine Kent without Taco Tonto's.

Kevin and his crew not only create unique, and quite frankly delicious, baked burritos on the regular, but there standard menu is killer as well. Awesome assortment of beers from many of the regional breweries makes this long time staple of the community a must for any townie or visitor. I'd give it 6 stars if I could

Don't get it. Big portions of "okay" at best food. Meat had a high content of grease and was not seasoned well. Tacos are huge and seem to be made out of a Burrito Shell.

Enchiladas was amazing got them with beef and the three different dips was fire guacamole,corn, salsa!!!!will be back

Been hearing about the famous Taco Tonto's for a while now, and finally had the chance to go there this weekend. Based on the menu prices, we each ordered two tacos and an order is chips/salsa. That was PLENTY of food! What a steal - the chorizo tacos were amazing, and they stuff those puppies full. Seating was limited, and we had to eat outside, but the tacos were so delicious that I forgot where I was or even what year I was in. Big thumbs up.

Ordered by phone: they said ready in 20-25 mins which was fine. Went to pick up and it was an additional 40 minutes before got food. By that time Ice cold. Worst experience I ever had there

Enchilada was Luke warm. Nachos were both burnt and undercooked...burnt chips with unmelted cheese. Steak burrito was mushy due to over cooked rice. Used to be way better...this will be our last visit.

Never disappoints! Incredible food at super-reasonable prices. We're lucky to have this gem here in Kent.

This is by fare my favorite Taco / Burrito / Nacho place in Cleveland. I am just not sure what to really say other then they are just amazingly good, huge and filling, and very affordable. I will admit, my wife was not a fan of the nachos because they were built for a man cave. You know, chips, tones of meet, real cheese and what ever else, thrown in an over and baked. The cheese can cause several to stick together when it cools. I had two tacos, pork and a steak. I had them on soft corn tortillas. Oh man were they good. Rice, cheese, beans, meat, meat and meat. with some salsa. I could eat one and a half. I believe the tacos are about $3.50 - $4.50 ish. The wife had a chicken quesadilla. She also felt it was one of the best. She could not handle the size either. The place is not really big, so you may be forced to carry out. They do have seating for probably 20, but I found a lot of folks come and park. So your mileage may very here. So be flexible.

Taco Tontos is a Kent staple. You can choose takeout, eat in their small but eclectic dining room, eat on one of their tables on the sidewalk or order by phone and pickup in the window on the Zephyr patio, which is the option I would recommend. What sets Taco Tantos apart from other burrito spots around here is the fact that they grill the burritos. It adds such a distinct flavor and texture that can't be matched. On top of that, it isn't a big chain, which is always a plus. I love their mild sauce too. You can get a regular or an El Biggo. The El Biggo's huge, but usually a $1 or so more, so it's totally worth getting, and saving for lunch the next day if you can't finish it. A regular is good to order if you don't want to feel too full, but is still a good sized burrito. A burrito will run you $7-8, but it can get a little pricey if you add toppings that don't come standard. I've been coming here since I was a kid when they were located in the basement of the Loft. I always get a burrito, but I recently tried a double-decker taco, and oh my god. It's a hard shell wrapped in a soft shell, and queso holds it together. It was huuuuuuge, and was insanely, and I mean insaaaanely good. I can't stop thinking about it. It's hard to pass up a grilled burrito, but this taco would make me think twice next time. Watch out for their daily specials. They offer really fun outside the box burritos a few times a week. Tonite, I got the Banh Mi burrito which had Vietnamese pulled pork, rice, house pickled carrots, cilantro-line cucumbers and soy sesame mayo. It was really good, and unlike what I'm used to eating. I've seen Greek, pulled pork and falafel burritos, and wanted to try them. They do Friday fish and shrimp tacos, they were okay, but not my favorite. It's real grilled fish, not breaded deep fried. Check out their Facebook page to keep up with those. PS- if you do call in takeout, make sure to go to the left hallway when you walk in, they have a pickup window.

Have come here for lunch many times. This is a solid and classic burrito place in Kent. This is not Mexican food per say, but it is not trying to be. This is just plain good college food. And they have great beer available as well. Recommend and worth a stop.

This is a great casual taco joint in the heart of Kent. We came with a group of 10 people after a show on a Sunday afternoon and were able to squeeze in at a table. The service was fast and casual, and the food was decent but not amazing. I ordered a steak burrito but what I got much more closely resembled carnitas (it was still delicious). The sun was streaming into the restaurant making it quite hot, and someone kept changing the volume on the radio so the music varied between nearly inaudible and eardrum blistering. Street parking is difficult to find but theoretically convenient if you can snag a spot.

I've lived in Kent a couple of years now, and I'm sad to say this was just my first time eating at (rather ordering take-out) from Taco Tantos. Everyone we talk to when we had first moved always recommended it, but we just never walked down. With that being said, it did not disappoint. Unfortunately, I feel like you often get small portions at small/local businesses as everyone is trying to cover their margins. However, this was not the case with Taco Tantos. We ordered to "el biggo" combination burritos (beef & bean) and a large side of chips and queso, and it was plenty for me and my husband (who tends to rarely get full). The queso was great - you can tell it had quality ingredients. I'd definitely recommend it over Chipotle - it's great to eat local and get the same value (both in ingredients and price). Also, I follow them on instagram and see that they have a good rotating variety of specials. Even though it took us quite a bit of time to make our way there, it won't take long for us to get back.

I have a vendetta against this place cause they double charged me and never refunded me. I showed them my account balance when it happened and they did nothing. Many times I brought a bank statement in, with my receipt and never got a refund because a manager was not in. I'm out $20 from this. It happened two years ago, and I'm a stubborn bitch. I'd like to go back, but I need my money or food compensation. Management, hit me up.

Yum. Who doesn't like this place? I went to KSU many years ago and it was the place to go. It still is, it's just around the corner now. Their portions are crazy big and the ingredients are always fresh. Their guacamole is pretty awesome! I usually get a burrito and only eat half. They have a good variety of menu items and everything is probably really good, based on the handful of items I've had. I've never been there without having to wait but it is always worth it. Parking can be challenging but there's now a garage a few blocks up. We usually get our orders to go and eat outside somewhere. It's tiny inside and tables are never available anyway.

When you think of Kent, this is one of the places you think of. Taco Tonto's IS the place for good burritos in the area, and probably the only place you should be going for Mexican. They have specials each day, which always make ordering interesting, and have an amazing selection of tasty sauces. I highly recommend taco Tonto's for burritos, tacos, beer, anything in that realm. If you ever come to Kent, this is a must(plus, you're supporting small business!)

Absolutely the best Tacos I've ever had! I ashamed to admit I ate 2, despite them being huge! Fish taco and the shrimp taco made me very happy!

Ordered lunch to pick up for my coworkers. Food was very good. Portions were huge. Everyone was happy. Tip- Make sure you get your drinks and any side orders. Those were missing.

Nice interior space with an outward looking view. Cool outdoor seating area. Called ahead to see if there's a full bar, was told yes. Arrived and there were only select cocktails. Staff didn't know what a full bar meant, kept having to ask a lot of questions to understand each other. Just a heads up. Everything was bland. The crunchy shell tacos didn't taste like anything. The meat was bland and there was rice in the taco, washing out the meat flavor. Small portion of meat in the tacos. The salsa didn't help much.

A staple business for Kent you really can't go wrong here. If you're trying to make your dollar go a long way this is the place you need to go. There are so many combinations to choose from and all are excellent.

Taco Tontos with colleagues before winter break. Never disappoints! The potato burrito is my go-to and there isn't a bad sauce in the place. Ordered by phone and even though I was running late, the food was still hot, even plus the 20 minute drive back. Only regret is that they not have their specials listed on their website so I discovered too late that there was a curried tofu, which would have been a vegan delight!

Came here for lunch with some friends. I got the steak jumbo hardshell taco; my girlfriend got the "regulata" steak burrito. Service was straightforward: go up to the counter and order. Pick a seat, wait for food, pick up at counter around the corner. The service was quick and friendly. Food was bland. For tacos, I prefer the meat to be juicy and flavorful (with spices). The lettuce and tomatoes should provide a crisper texture to the food, and clear the palate of the spices. Unfortunately, neither the steak taco nor burrito did this for me. The meat was drier than I'd like; the salt covered up most of the flavor of the meat and the spices. The lettuce and tomatoes, while fresh, did not lighten the flavor. Additionally, the salsa on the side added to the saltiness. Overall, good service, but food didn't have the complexity of flavors that I'd look for at a taco/burrito joint.

This place is just as good if not better than what I remember when I first visited about 6 years ago and they have expanded and opened another location on the West side of Cleveland to boot!!!! Oh, if only they'd expand further and open a location in Phoenix then I'd be in heaven......a girl can dream can't she? The item that caught my fancy when I first patronaged this little restaurant is the sweet potato burrito which comes black beans and with alfalfa sprouts. \(o.O)/. Don't overthink it. Just try it and you will fall in love with :} Taco Tontos too! As for seating granted the inside is tight. I think a max of 10-12 maybe can sit inside, but on days the shared patio is open there's plenty more seating.

Just amazing. Forget the chains. Experience freshly made food with high quality fresh ingredients. Wonderful atmosphere.

It's a great hole in the wall. I love their Korean BBQ taco plate with tofu. And the sweet potato burrito and the spicy sauce- I've never had anything I didn't like there!

Our quest to try new places continues! Taco Tontos is a Water Street Landmark in Kent, OH. Meshelle and I both ordered the Steak Burritos, I got the El Biggo and Meshelle got the Regulata! The chips and queso dip rocked and the burritos are HUGE!!!! BOOM!!!!

Terrible customer service. The clerk, wearing a beard without a hairnet, doesn't hand the money back to me or even say hello when I come in. Just because you don't have a dress code doesn't mean you can act like a stuck-up snob. Since there is no corporate office, Yelp will have to do. There are other Taco Tontos out there, but the one in Kent has sucked in the last 5-6 years.

While in town, I was really happy to have something healthy and pleasantly simple yet tasty. I had the sweet potato bowl, and the coriander compliments the sweet potato nicely. I added pico de gallo which I would definitely recommend since it gave some crunch and freshness from the onions and tomato. The portion size was really large - fine with me, I'll save half for tomorrow! A little extra cheese for me. Pricing is very good too, with the pico, mine was $7. I have some food allergens too, and the person helping us was very knowledgeable and thoughtful to help me. Really nice staff who seemed to enjoy working there. I would definitely come back again next time we are in town.

I guess this is sort of the hipster taco place in Kent. Very busy every time we have tried to stop in but finally managed to hit it during a lull one evening. There are only a few seats inside, so there were a lot of carryout orders happening while we were eating. The tables were clean despite the grungy vibe. We ordered a large chips and guac to eat while we were waiting for our tacos. The guac was OK but chips were very inconsistently cooked- some almost burnt. We tried the steak, chicken and chorizo (spicy!) tacos. Got the hard corn shells which were a really nice consistency and actually remained intact while eating the tacos. As others have pointed out, the portions were really large. Overall average food, but good if you are someone who is really hungry and working with limited funds, i.e., a college student.

This is my favorite place to eat in Kent. The tacos are incredible. The burritos are huge! And the margaritas are strong! Definitely get one of their incredible specials, especially the bahn mi special on Wednesday. The staff is so awesome! I eat here about once a week now! (Sometimes twice a week!!!!)

You know I've had TT's a handful of times now and enjoyed it much more the first couple. This time I had kids with me and a cost conscious individual. It does seem like a bit of a ripoff to charge $1 per item added to an already pricey burrito. Kind of surprised that it does so well on a college campus. My bill was over $20 for 2 people and I did not have any add ons or a drink. It also took a pretty long time for what we'd expect out of a primarily take out location.

Hello! I am a 4 year resident of Kent and a sometime supporter of Taco Tontos, but i will be honest, this place sucks. The first time I went the chips looked like they were bought from the grocery store. Round and stale. And im sorry, if I have to pay for salsa what am I even doing? I will admit that the chips have gotten better, but the story does not end there. Today I dropped by for a 'quick' to go burrito to take away, and ended up waiting OVER 30 minutes for the piece of shit pictured below. Good people, I implore you; can we not have a decent centrally located "Mexican" food joint in Kent? Because Taco stupids does not fit the bill.
