Here's my problem with Tacodeli: The migas are always cold. I asked the community, "why are the migas always cold?" but didn't get a response. Here is my suggestion to Tacodeli to serve hot migas and migas tacos: make them to-order, add the cheese and pico to the eggs while they are still on the grill and heat the tortilla. I don't know if you're cooking the eggs to-order or if they're in a warming tray, but if you add straight-from-the-fridge cheese to a lukewarm eggs, the cheese is going to cool off the eggs. If you think that I'm exaggerating, look at the customer-posted photos. The cheese isn't the slightest bit melted. Not even softened. The shreds maintain their shape. This indicates not-hot eggs, so I doubt the eggs are made to order. Add the ice-cold salsa to the taco, and an already cold taco gets even colder. Do better, Tacodeli. Demand better, customers. Customers deserve hot migas. 0/5 stars for any tacos involving eggs.
4/5 stars for all other tacos. The seafood tacos, in particular, are excellent. The chipotle-sesame adobo on the shrimposito is top notch. I'm deducting a point for sub-par tortillas. Sometimes they are warm and soft. Sometimes they are cold and tough. They are never excellent. If your business centers around tacos, tortillas matter. At Tacodeli's price point, made-to-order tortillas would surpass expectations. Hot and fresh pre-made tortillas would be great. Cold pre-made tortillas are unacceptable.
I should also mention to vegans that the black beans are dry and flavorless, so I can't recommend the freakin' vegan.
You'll find better quality tacos at the numerous taco trucks all over town, especially when comparing breakfast tacos. I used to say that Tacodeli and Torchy's are for people who are afraid to order tacos in Spanish. However, I think Tacodeli deserves credit for organic, free-range, ingredients and innovative recipes. They can't compete on quality of execution when compared to the mom and pop taco stand next to a gas station making every breakfast taco to-order, coming out hot and fresh. If you go to Tacodeli during non-peak times, though, they have superior seating, and can accommodate small groups and they offer air-conditioned seating.
I love that they offer rice and beans for an additional $2.00 when you order two tacos. Lunch tacos, if they'd offer better tortillas, I'd give 5/5 stars. Cold eggs on breakfast tacos are never okay. Tacodeli, please, fix your egg problem.
Response to Jordon, who responded to my review: If you add shredded cheese to hot eggs, the cheese may not melt, but it shouldn't completely cool off the eggs. My complaint is not that the cheese isn't melted. My complaint is that the eggs are cold.
