Thank you! I got six tacos. I liked the atmosphere and everybody there was very chill. Recommended.

Tacos El Poblano – A Local Taco Spot with a Charcoal-Grilled Twist Located in Rancho Del Rey, Tacos El Poblano is a well-known local taco shop with deep roots, proudly displaying its history since 1974 in La Mesa, Tijuana. Their claim to fame? 100% mesquite charcoal-grilled meats that bring out a unique, smoky flavor in their tacos, adobada, birria, and more. Dining Experience The staff was friendly and welcoming as I walked in. The adobada on the grill immediately caught my eye, so I decided to try the Torta de Adobada. The torta came with crispy bread, a generous portion of sliced adobada, and all the toppings. Served with lemon and radish on the side, it was packed with flavor. Other Menu Options They also offer tacos, quesadillas, and birria, with a focus on quality ingredients. Prices are on the higher side, but the food quality makes it worth a try. Ambiance & Convenience There are two outdoor round tables, making it a potentially dog-friendly spot. Conveniently located near Costco, Regal Cinema, and 24 Hour Fitness, making it a great pre- or post-errand meal stop. If you're in the area and craving charcoal-grilled tacos with bold flavors, Tacos El Poblano is worth checking out!

Absolutely love Tacos El Pablanos in Chula Vista! Every visit has been a delight, with their carne asada tacos being simply amazing. The mulitas are another highlight, packed with flavor and always fresh. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making each dining experience enjoyable. After more than 10 trips, I can confidently say the quality and taste remain consistently top-notch. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for delicious, authentic tacos! 🌮✨

Google
I got a carne assada burrito, and it was very good.

Google
I got a Birria burrito. They make it right in front of you and it’s fresh. I’ll come back for tacos next time I’m in the area.

Tired, dated, not very clean. So many new Tijuana taco shops popping up all over Chula Vista and surrounding areas. This place needs a facelift, organization, seating, and more. Satisfied the craving but I don't think I'll return because of the things I pointed out. Four tacos $16 no drink. Al pastor was flavorless, carne asada was good. Other than that, nothing to write home about

Google
Im giving it a three star because the food was edible but not memorable. I ordered adobada tacos and carne asada tacos. The adobada meat tasted like it was cooked several hours earlier and had been sitting in a pot just overcooking because it was so dry when I bit into my food. It was a little spicy which is fine but had no flavor. They had no cooked onions they had no pickled carrots to add on. The carne asada was OK. But wouldn't come back. The food was very overpriced for the quality served. 🥲

Google
Best Tacos in the world, and I've tried lots of tacos. After 9 years of being away tastes the same as I remember! I literally shed a tear. I've eaten here for about 15 meals in the last 20days!!

Yelp
Food: The tacos here pretty flavorful and I love to add sauce, lime, and radishes from the little station they have there. The tostada was crispy and flavorful. Everything comes out quickly, so you're not waiting long for your food. Service: It's a fast and easy setup. You order, eat, and can pay after your meal, which is convenient. The staff keeps things moving, and the whole experience feels efficient. Ambiance: It's a small spot, but it's relatively clean and comfortable. It's not a crowded place, making it a nice little stop if you're looking for a quick, satisfying meal.

Yelp
It had been a while since we had Tacos El Poblano in Chula Vista. We tried the Al Pastor pork tacos, carne asada and Al Pastor pork quesadilla. The tacos & quesadilla had a generous amount of meat and guacamole. We rated the tacos and quesadilla 4/5 stars. The asada tacos were missing that smokey charcoal flavor and the Al Pastor meat could use more seasoning. I don't know if they changed their recipe, but they definitely tasted a bit different since the last time I had them. The tacos were still good. The taqueros were friendly and restaurant was clean. Happy Yelping!

Yelp
Tacos are good, but it says open from 10am-10pm. I would call first because it is the second time I go after seeing online that they're open, but get there and Closed!. Not fun. Get your schedules together or will go to Lolitas.

Yelp
Nice lunch atmosphere wasn't too crowded. The tacos were tasty and the service was great. The cooks were friendly and the hostess was welcoming

Yelp
First time customer of this taco shop. Ordered a Al Pastor Burrito and an Al Pastor quesadilla. The first disappointment was the portion sizes. The quesadilla was on a single regular size tortilla not your typical "burrito" size flour tortilla usually used for a quesadilla. The burrito came on a burrito sized tortilla but the ratio of meat was not what I expected. Neither item is worth the $10 or $13 cost in my opinion. In addition, the Al Pastor meat was burnt and not freshly slice off the Trompo. But my biggest complaint was the loud laughter from all three employees who were working at the time. Their personal conversation took away from the experience of having lunch. I will not be coming back here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
Omg best carne asada tortas in town . Love the salsa and quac they put in it . Love how crispy the bread is when they toast it . The taqueros are super nice and take your order and make it right . Love the service .

Lora P.

Yelp
No complaints about the service. We were greeted as we walked in & the taqueros were friendly & ready to take our order. The food was hit or miss. Carne asada was flavorless & a bit dry. The pastor was just ok, again flavor was lacking. The two stars are for the consomé (Birria broth) which was perfect as usual. For years we've been coming here for our consomé fix & it never disappoints. Unfortunately the place is very dirty around the seating area, tables, chairs, the salsa bar & the bathroom area. There are trash cans smeared with food & overflowing with food waste all over the place. As much as I love their consomé, I won't be coming back for more, unless someone picks it up for me & I forget how nasty the restaurant looks. PLEASE clean up the place!! It says a lot about your restaurant & yes, people do care about cleanliness.

Paloma C.

Yelp
I had tacos from this place, and the meat looked and tasted like it was scraped from the bottom of the pan. It was dry, unappetizing, and nothing like what you'd expect from a decent taco shop. I called the restaurant to share my feedback, and the cashier bluntly told me she couldn't help. Absolutely no effort to make things right. This is by far the worst taco shop I've ever been to. The food was disappointing, and the customer service was just as bad. I won't be coming

Yelp
This taqueria is honestly the best little gem of a taqueria in the east Chula Vista/bonita area! Never been over priced, easy menu and the main attraction are the delicious tacos in my opinion the birria is the best in the area. The place has never been updated but the cooks definitely keep it authentic to tj style taquerias. You pay after you've dined. The salsa bar is always fully stocked with 3 different types of salsas, fresh limon and rabanos! Not to mention the chiles sarandiados always ready is the salsa on top!! Low maintenance and affordable authentic tacos is my favorite cheat meal!

Yelp
I have been there 3 times. Food is good. The big problem is the cashier. I do not speak Spanish and she evidently does not speak English. She overcharged me by one taco each time. I brought it to her attention each time and she did credit but I should not have to examine the bill each time I go there. Sorry, but 3 times in a row tells me they do it intentionally.

Yelp
Place is run down, tons of smokey charcoal build up in the air. Told the taquero to give me a 2 meat burrito and he ended up giving this piece of work. It's supposed to come with salsa onion cilantro and avocado guacamole but no lie I tasted the guacamole until the 2nd to last bite and almost if any salsa. The meat was super dry and had tons of fat pieces. Not only that I came at the wrong time because two of the taqueros were arguing with each other which is pretty unprofessional too argue in front of customers but whatever I'm never coming back so just be warned. Ps the burrito is definitely not worth 14 dollars!

David H.

Yelp
Great local taco shop in Chula Vista they still use charcoal grills to cook the carne asada and u can taste the difference ...that plus the birria cannot be beat...prices good for quality of food and service is quick ...recommend !

Yelp
No beans, no rice, no chicken?! The food was good but the variety was slim and little to no customer service. Our first time and our last time there.

Yelp
Believe it or not, you have to get out of your car and walk inside to the counter to order your food. This place is clean, their food is delicious and their service is served with a smile. I tried their asada and adobada. I had them both with all the fixings. They were tasty and the tortillas which are made on premises were soft! I'd probably be back again when in the area.

Julian C.

Yelp
Got there at 9:40 and they were already cleaning and refused to sell on a Friday night. It says they close at 10pm

Ana Celia H.

Yelp
Best Tijuana style tacos in San Diego without crossing the border. It's a fast taco style without having to eat standing up. Service is fast, casual ambiance.
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
Food tastes amazing. Was expecting a bit more of the adobada portion and cheese for the price.
google avatar

Charlotte R.

Yelp
Not the best, but also not the worst tacos I've had. The birria was better than the adobada; the carne asada lacked flavor. It's very smoky inside and the salsa bar could have used a wipe down. Still, it was fast and satisfied my craving. $42 for 7 tacos, a quesadilla, 2 fountain drinks, and a bottle coke is a decent price.
google avatar

Joshua D.

Yelp
I wanted it to be good and it was ok. Not bad just not bomb with so many good taco shops you need to stand out. The tortilla are handmade so you can taste the difference. The horchata and the dark salsa are the best things there. The birria was ok kind of dry and over cooked, the adobada was decent and the carne asada was cold sort of pre cooked and fatty. I will not return. The service was fast and the place is clean they have a decent menu just nothing was a standout and not worth it for me. The guacamole was good smooth and creamy like I like it but the carne needs to be hot and better quality, the adobado needs more flavor and the birria needs to be more tender and juicy. Sorry guys I gave y'all a shot but didn't hit the mark. Ok almost didn't make it home had to poop so bad! My stomach is upset! Can't stop going to the bathroom I'm actually on the toilet right now ... This is not good - not good at all- stomach hurts they need to wash their hands or make sure the meat is fresh it didn't taste fresh and now I think it's bad - like bad bad been going to the bathroom for over an hour now!

Yelp
My wife and I were there on August 30, 2023 and I'm just getting around to writing this because I saved the receipt to remind me. Food thumbs down. Employees disengaged. Cleanliness lacking. What a disappointment. Pardon me for not photographing the saddest, no love mulitas we've ever had. It's just sad that this place has run into the ground. We won't be back.
google avatar

Jerry I.

Yelp
Delicious tacos and burritos here. It's prepared fresh so you have to wait a little bit, but well worth it. The last time I go the "Mixto Burrito", which was a combination of carne asada, pastor (marinated pork off the rotating spit), guacamole, onions, and salsa. Really good stuff. It's sort of like a taco truck but inside a restaurant.

Eduardo P.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite taco places. Except for birria, which is good, the beef tacos are terrible. The tortillas are dry or old. The carne asada is also very dry, it seems like they reheated already cooked meat. They used to cook it fresh. The taquero is kind of disrespectful. Fortunately there are many new options. I will not return.

Yelp
The Adobada...omfg... This! Lived in San Diego my entire life, how have I not had this mesquite seasoned deliciousness? Now, their carne asada is also on point, but the Adobada stole the show. Bought three tacos, and was through the Adobada and one of the carne asada before I remembered to take a pic. On top of the excellent food, everyone was super sweet and smiled when I tried to roll my rrr's. Will definitely be back!

Kelly L.

Yelp
So delicious worth the price & the employees are so friendly 10/10 Recommend We got a torta, tacos and quesadilla. The bread was so soft and toasted to perfection
google avatar

Fernando R.

Yelp
I'm watching not even warming my not home made tortillas, adobada was over fried on the grill not even from the spicket,(Trompo)and my tostada was way premade tasted stale ,no flavor no salt , I have never complain but I remember these tacos being delicious way before tacos el gordo existed , SORRY HANDS DOWN , and my chile toreados which by the way he only had 4 in little tray burned to a crisp chiles tasted cold and like they've been sitting there for ever ....LIVE AND LEARN

Angel R.

Yelp
Although the service was fast, the service didn't feel as welcoming as most cook to order restaurants. The food was really good, but $3.50 for a tiny taco was a bit steep for me. FYI you pay when you're walking out the door so order as much as you'd like and let the cashier know how much, and what you ordered.
google avatar

Lucille F.

Yelp
Great food , so much better than other taco places in the area The consume de birria is delicious and flavorful , prices are costly but worth it due to the freshness and flavor Cooks and workers are helpful
google avatar

Gabe G.

Yelp
The food is good. The service is just ok (they need to remind employees to at least greet customers). Good carne asada tacos, adobada tacos, and birria, especially the consomé. Sometimes on the adobada, instead of cutting new meat they make your tacos with the meat that has been previously cut and sitting on the grill, which is not vey tasty. When I get 2 or 3 large orders of birria to go they only include a small amount of onions and cilantro which is enough for only one person. Come on! They should put enough for 4 servings. We have to chop onions and cilantro at home. Still I come back because the food is good and it's very close to my house.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
I think I have had my very first bad carne asada burrito. This thing looks like it was made at home by some middle schooler. Hardly any flavor and the wrap of the burrito was crap. I did not see this coming at all. Had a mixed taco and that was pretty average as well in flavor. Something told me to not go to this place and I was right. Feels like a place you would go to in Ohio that thinks they know how Mexican food should taste like. BIG FAIL!
google avatar

Armand P.

Yelp
Service is horrible. I waited in line with my wife over five minutes while they were six guys in the back just talking. A Spanic woman walked up and he proceeded to take her order immediately. While walking out, I spoke to the cashier who told them that nobody helped us, and it was terrible service, what's the reply was it's my fault because I wasn't standing in line. Mind you I was standing where she had just told me the line was and that somebody would help me shortly. Just terrible service.

Yelp
WTH happen to this place?! I'm so disappointed in how the portions of the tacos have gotten smaller but the prices higher. Look I get it prices might go higher & I don't mine paying more if the food is great & portions are good. Well that's not the case here no more. The meats are still good but smaller & mainly covered with onions & other trimmings & honestly I can't taste some of the meats because of that & the tortillas are smaller too! I use to eat 5 tacos & fill somewhat full now a toddler can eat 5 tacos & wont fill full. The birria soup is still very good & portions are still ok & that's probably the only thing I'll get now if I come back (I probably will I love their broth for their birria) but I won't be spending big money on small tacos that won't fill up a toddler if he ate 5. I still love their birria one of the best in San Diego & the customer service is ok but man they honestly probably have one of the smallest tacos served in SD now, sad but true, with tax included their close to $2.50, for the size they are it's not worth it. They have a location in TJ & their tacos are bigger & cost less! So maybe I'll go there for their tacos. This use to be one of my favorite spots but not any more, I'll just come back if I'm craving birria & hanged over.

R. K.

Yelp
Been eating here since it opened. Food is always good and prices are fair. Recommend to anyone who wants authentic street tacos. Adobada is legit! Carne Asada has that flavor you can only find in Mex. Great spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Was in the area and decided to stop by and try this place out for the first time, place is honestly very clean and has a somewhat tacos el gordo theme. I was excited!! I ordered 5 tacos total, 2 birria, 2 adobada, 1 carne asada. I opted for cilantro onion and guac and of course i added red salsa from the salsa bar, i cant really talk much about the staff since i didnt talk to them much but the food came out quick, now to why i gave it 2 stars, THE FOOD DOES NOT TASTE GOOD, the adobada was the only one with flavor, the guac 100% comes from a can since it is tasteless, for $3.25 a taco i expected some flavor, never again will i come back here, i felt like i had to make myself finish compared to actually wanting to.....

Yelp
My wife and I made the mistake of walking into the "restaurant," more like a hang-out social club for the employees on a Sunday at approximately 11:00 AM. She and I were the only customers upon arrival, during our unfortunate meal, and upon leaving, approximately 20 minutes later. When we walked in, no one greeted us, and we just stood there waiting for someone to acknowledge us or walk up to the register to take our order. We immediately observed four employees sitting at the back table, eating, gossiping, staring at us, and finally a female approached us and finally someone informed us we needed to place our order with the actual cook behind the plastic glass, who also never acknowledged us, or asked if we needed help. We then ordered a birria burrito and the cook immediately mocked us by repeating the order to his assistant cook with a silly accent (mocking us in a sarcastic way), which I found to be extremely unprofessional. When finally called to pick up our food, we were not offered an additional plate (as we were sharing the pathetic burrito), salsa, limon or even utensils. This place did not feel like a restaurant, it felt like a self-serve buffet without all the great food choices or ease to get what you wanted in real time. Other "Taco Shops" are so good with customer service, food quality and friendliness, that it is difficult to understand why this venue is so unique in all the wrong ways. It was truly a struggle to get to finally sit down and attempt to enjoy our first meal of the day. The birria burrito was a letdown, didn't taste like your typical juicy birria, it was dry, and the mystery meat was cut into tiny cubes. My wife did not finish her half and we decided our breakfast was totally ruined. The whole time we were eating this mystery meat burrito, the same four employees continued to sit at the back table, eat, be loud and just shout back and forth with the cooks to turn up the annoying music being played inside the back room. When getting up to leave, we found ourselves in the same predicament of not being acknowledged or asked if we needed help, no one asking if we needed a to go bag or even if we were ready to pay (keep in mind, we did not pay when ordering, even though they have a register booth as you walk in). We had to walk to the empty register booth, wait, turn around and eventually call out to the same lady who continued to hang-out at the back table with the boys. She finally got the energy to get up, slowly walk over and had the nerve to ask what I had ordered and was attempting to pay for, when she clearly heard me at the beginning, especially because the restaurant was empty the whole time (now we know why!!!). I told her what we ordered, and she smirked as she could tell we were bothered by the lack of service. After paying I still had to ask for a to go bag for a second time since she seemed so distracted the entire time. She then smirked and shouted at the cook to give me a bag, I then walked over to the cooking area and was handed a square piece of aluminum foil to wrap my burrito half with no plastic bag. I wish this rating service had a half or zero-star rating option, as this place is sad to call itself a restaurant or business. This review may be lengthy or even "over-the-top" for some readers, but it is meant to educate, warn and prepare daring eaters, when contemplating donating money to this place. Because that's what we did, it was not a fair money/product trade. We felt taken and will never return. My wife and I laughed after posting this review, after seeing how many other people depicted the exact same scenario upon walking into this sad establishment.

Yelp
This restaurant SLAPS Simple, quick and extremely delicious! Pricing is a tiny bit expensive, but it's totally worth it for the flavor! There's too many mediocre taco shops in San Diego (i.e. Tacos el Gordo)... Trust that this one hits the spot!
google avatar

April V.

Yelp
One of the BEST tacos spots here in San Diego county. I will make it a must to stop by if you're ever in Chula Vista. Super authentic meats and salsas.
google avatar

Tony V.

Yelp
I would give it no stars if possible. I walked in and waited about 5 minutes to order all because they were all laughing and joking around. The cook even grabbed his nuts as a joke in front of everyone. $12 burrito that's smaller and thinner than a damn pencil my hand is bigger than this damn burrito. Worst place to go to don't even waste your time or money . Screw this place
google avatar

Joe N.

Yelp
Place is awesome. Tacos done pretty fast. Super good and hot. The workers are approachable. Place gives San Diego a taste of real Tijuana tacos!!!
google avatar

Angelique B.

Yelp
We heard about this place and decided to give it a try. We were basically ignored for a while when we first got in, mind you there was only two other people dining in there. As soon as we walked in we were just stared at and then ignored, No greeting nothing. The tacos are a little pricey and I mean that would be justified if they were flavored. Overall our experience was underwhelming, my partner and I had high hopes. Maybe it was just the adobada tacos we got but even the asada taco wasn't that great. Kind of bummed out but it's alright.
google avatar

Leo S.

Yelp
My favorite tacos ever are in TJ under the same name as this place and we found we didn't have to cross the border just to get the best tacos. So when we were in TJ found out about the place in Chula Vista that has been open for 8 years haha. It's good meat and has the flavor that hits the spot. They are not the biggest tacos and they can run alittle pricy but you wanna go pay someone else for less than these tacos forget it. Drove 90 mins just to eat these tacos and plan on driving it again. They are that good and as someone else said they need to open one in LA. Tacos asada with out guac don't even need to add salsa they are perfect the way they are and taste like heaven. Go out of your way and go to Chula Vista and try these tacos. The workers were not much talkers but that's fine I wasn't there to talk I'm there to get some tacos. Will be back soon
google avatar

Randy E.

Yelp
This place is very under average, the Adobada is okay, not bad and not good. The Birria and asada is absolutely by far the worst I've ever had. I strongly don't recommend this place as there's far better places in the area.
google avatar

Chaudhry A.

Yelp
Great food , great service ... much of a great alternative to the usual hyped up taco or Mexican food joints. Laid back restaurant with chefs ready to prepare orders. I've tried their carne asada in tacos, quesadillas and burritos and all of them tasted "great". Good salsa bar to go along with any menu item and consumé to compliment as well. Seating both indoor and out, however ask staff to turn on lights outside, if not on.
google avatar

Maritza A.

Yelp
Amazing flavor never disappoints...very consistent!!! Quesatacos de birra are the best!!!
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
Great Birria! All of their tacos selection was delicious Will definitely come again. Great prices.
google avatar

Evelyn D.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, however a little pricey for small tacos. The adobada here is to die for! The tacos are true to traditional street taco size however, so expect to eat a few. At 2.50 a taco, they're not exactly breaking the bank but aren't cheap either. Menu is very limited and straight forward. You want find chicken or rice on this menu lo
google avatar

Gene B.

Yelp
Love this place. We have been coming for years always good and family plate is off the hook

Brian B.

Yelp
My favorite Taco shop is the el poblano just west of the Otay crossing in TJ. This place isn't quite as good but it's pretty close and no 3 hour wait to cross back. I tried this place a few years ago and was disappointed, but went back a few weeks ago and was impressed. They are a tj style place. Order with the cook and pay when you leave. I know in the US we aren't used to the honor system.... I've had the carne asada and birria tacos and both are really good. But what I REALLY like here is are the tortas. They do it right by putting mayo on the bun and then toasting it on the grill. Then all the deliciousness goes on top of that. Epic!

Yelp
Food is pretty good. I have been going there for a couple of years now and it's basically a less crowded Tacos El Gordo. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other taco shops. I'd definitely recommend trying them out.
