Absolutely killer tacos from this downtown taco truck! In a city of $20 taco plates and pretentious pricing, this well-priced option was an absolute standout. Portions were great with a wide variety of meats to choose from. Generous side portions and refreshing toppings to choose from in whatever quantity you want. Definitely a place I’d be coming back to if I was a local!

Google
One of the best tacos spots I’ve ever been too! The hospitality and friendliness of the owners was outstanding, he even offered me a piece of gum when I was finished. Truly a unique experience. Highly recommend!!

We really enjoyed our meal here. We went for lunch on a Friday, around 1p. There was no wait, and plenty of available seats. Service was quick and friendly. I had a Rajas con Queso and a Lengua taco. Partner ordered an Alambre plate. 3 tacos and a beer was just right for each of us. Lots of filling and good solid tortillas to hold everything. Parking: There are several parking spots directly in front, if your timing is right. No parking lot. We got lucky. Hopefully you will too! Seating: There are a few small tables and open counter seating inside, as well as some outdoor window stools where you sit out on the sidewalk and look in. Dogs: We usually bring our dog out with us, but didn't this time because we weren't sure of the seating arrangement. Outdoor seating could work for a well behaved dog, or (like ours), in a stroller. Keep in mind the outdoor stools are shared with a sidewalk, and Milpas is a very busy street. Side note: Me being curious about the name, I found this on the local website Siteline: "Pipeye’s motto (“Diga no a la pirateria!!”), written alongside the name, translates to “Say no to piracy,” which I assume reflects irritation with imitators." Followed by: "The Pipeye slogan is a cheeky homage to a popular anti-piracy phrase used in the 80’s and 90’s in film and music." (peep-eh’-ye)

Google
Fun, quick service taco spot with super flavorful tacos made with homemade corn tortillas. You can taste the love in every bite. Very friendly people working there. There are about 15 stools on the counter plus 5 or 6 tables and a nice salsa bar. Some of the best tacos I've had in a while. They have a 3 taco special for $11 which was plenty for lunch.

I’ve heard there are other places in SB that serve tacos but I can’t imagine why.

Google
Tender, well seasoned meats served on house made tortillas. Dressings are up to you- cilantro, onions, pico, radishes and a half dozen salsas are available. I especially loved the barbacoa with the smoky/spicy red and the peanut chipotle. And the dude at the counter is really cool. Having been on an exhaustive (and ongoing) search for the best tacos in SB, I'd say nothing else comes close to Tacos Pipeye. Accept no imitations!

Google
Phenomenal tacos. I got a barbacoa, chicken, carnitas, and al pastor. Barbacoa was my favorite, they were all great. Very friendly service, and I got my food quickly.

Google
I passed 3 other taco places to come to this place..I am glad I did. The others charge $12 a taco, while here I got 4 tacos for $10. Besides the great value, the tacos were great. Homemade, authentic tacos. They didn't slip on the portions of the meat. The salsa bar is a great touch. If you want tacos, stop here.

Yelp
Truly the best tacos in town. Pastor, borrego, carnitas, rajas con queso...they were all delicious! Moist and flavorful meats, handmade tortillas and an ample salsa bar too. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and the place was clean. Thank you!

Yelp
Wanted to grab a quick lunch to go to enjoy near the wharf. Tacos Pipeye was the perfect choice. Got two asada tacos and two Al pastor. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the service was very friendly and helpful! We bought two coke bottles but their fridge had stopped working so he was kind enough to give us two cups filled with ice. They had the soccer game on the tv. Amazing sauces and sides to go. What more do you need? Perfect lunch, perfect little spot.

Yelp
The food was very tasty. My kids loved the asada tacos. Service was amazing, the guy at the counter was attentive and very helpful. It was a mom and pop style restaurant on the edge of the street with bar style seating. We were able to sit outside on the table top tables with our dog. Try the Fresca limón agua fresca. It was delicio

Yelp
Spending a couple weeks in SB and heard a few locals rave about the menudo and chorizo con papas that they serve here so I had to come check out. It did not dissapoint! When I got there at 12, there was no line thankfully and my food was out in minutes. But once my food arrived that place was PACKED with a line. Got the 4 tacos for $12. Decided to go with 1 asada, 1 al pastor, 1 chorizo con papa and 1 barbacoa. The asada was ok, needed salt. The barbacoa was good. However the al pastor was very good. The star of the show of course was the chorizo con papa. I would defenitly come back for that again and get it in a burrito next time. The tortillas are also handmade and so amazing. The salsa bar is a great touch and I appreciate those. A good variety of salsas to may I add. A couple days a later a co worker brought menudo and it was amazing! Some of the best menudo I've had from a resteraunt. If your a fan of chorizo con papas or menudo, you need to come check them out!

Yelp
Go here for authentic Mexican. The tortillas are fresh and yummy. All the meat was amazing but especially the carnitas and pastor. My only complaint is the soda was not very cold & everyone knows ice cold soda is a non-negotiable.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food in Santa Barbara! It's pretty unassuming, for sure a hole in the wall, and the parking's not easy either. But, the food is absolutely worth it! I was here twice in the same week! We tried the carnitas, al pastor, and chorizo con papas tacos. All delicious! Fresh, homemade tortillas make all the difference to start. The tacos come with no garnish. Make sure to visit the excellent salsa bar for cilantro, onion, salsa, and lime. I wanted to try the pozole, given the rain and cold, but I came for dinner, and they had already run out. I settled on the cecina, a salted beef with onions and chiles. It came with rice, beans, and more of those excellent tortillas. It was a bit salty, but it's literally a salted meat. I'm still dreaming about tortillas...make sure you get here to try them yourselves!

Yelp
We were leaving Santa Barbara after a busy day at the zoo and I was determined to grab some Mexican before we skipped town. Driving down the street, we saw a few closed storefronts before stumbling on pipeye unassumingly. The wait was reasonable and so were the prices. As of august 2023, you can get 4 tacos for $10. They come on homemade tortilla. Salsas are self serve and so is the onion and greens - tacos just come w the meats. Their pipeto limon agua Fresca was delicious and I enjoyed the food as well. You know the place passed the test if the beans and rice are delicious and/or if the salsas are bomb. This passed on both fronts. Definitely planning to return next time we are in dt.

Yelp
Looking for authentic Mexican food? This is your place. Tacos Tacos Tacos. Try the Al Pastor... the tortillas are piping hot and made fresh. The meat comes with nothing on it. The taste speaks for its self. Family owned and operated, Mauricio in the front is the man. I like to walk and and get the 4 taco special. I usually ask Mauricio to pick me 4 tacos and he never disappoints. He is personal and knows great customer service. Come on in!!

R S.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican Food! Tasted great. We had the El Pastor tacos with the rice and beans. 4 tacos for $12. Good deal! I highly recommend this place if you are in Santa Barbara area.

Yelp
The best shrimp tacos ever!! Go here, you won't regret it! The entire family enjoyed their tacos. Everything was fresh and delicious. The corn tortillas were amazing!! Another plus side also was that the guy cashiering last night was really sweet and nice.

Yelp
Honest Mexican food in Santa Barbara. Good variety of meats, on par with what you'd find anywhere, and always nice to get cabeza and lengua - and was surprised to find lamb tacos on the menu. Meat quality was unspectacular, but they had a wide variety of excellent sauces you could add to it. The tortillas are the real star here - so good that I'd get them to go.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect Sunday morning breakfast burrito. Host was super friendly & helpful. I always ask for no rice in my burrito and they were happy to accommodate. Chorizo was the perfect amount. Tortilla was outstanding. Salsa verde a perfect pairing. You can't find a more authentic place. Try it!

Yelp
Let's go! We were heading out of town and picked up a couple of breakfast burritos for Cinco de Mayo! Fresh salsas and locals in the restaurant. There are 4 tables and a seated bar area.

Kerily M.

Yelp
Delicious tacos, fast service, friendly servers. What couldn't you want? We had 6 kinds of tacos between us and recommend them all. The pazole (weekends only) was authentic and tasty.

Yelp
During my pit stop in Santa Barbara I ordered the 4 for $10 taco combo for takeout. I got the following, ranked in my order of preference: 1. Chicken Taco 2. Carnitas Taco 3. Carne Asada Taco (a tad dry) 4. Lamb Taco (a tad gamey) The tortillas tasted very authentic and there was a substantial amount of meat in each taco. Though, if I'm being honest, I was a little disappointed by the lack of other ingredients (virtually no vegetables) in the tacos. I also would've appreciated a little more flavor. Otherwise, at $10 for 4 tacos packed with meat, it's a great deal!

Casey S.

Yelp
Fantastic Breakfast Burrito! Would definitely stop by again the next time I'm in Santa Barbara!
google avatar

Noe'l S.

Yelp
They have amazing food. Seriously one of my favorite places out here. We had posole, chilaquiles and a chicken burrito and everything was perfect. Spicy salsa and the best chips. The man that helped us was really nice and welcoming. 10/10, I wish we lived closer because I would be here all the time.

Yelp
Yum yum yum! Just writing this review is making my mouth water. You can't go wrong with anything here tacos, burritos, mulitas or even some of their specialty plates. Mauricio has excellent customer services treats me like family. I recommend this to anyone seeing this review you have to stop in!

Yelp
Food is awesome , try the borrego ( no cheese ) and my wife loves the rajas con queso tacos i just tried the fish taco and shrimp taco VERY GOOD . I live in Oxnard but i drive to Santa Barbara maybe once a month just for these tacos .
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
The good reviews are confusing. I think the taco truck is good, known especially for good fish and shrimp tacos. The restaurant tacos though, were really depressing and the place is dusty. Staff is friendly. Had a fish and and an asada taco, which was more like ground beef, had no toppings. Very uninspired.

William L.

Yelp
Fantastic tacos and gorditas with great service. Definitely recommend this family owned restaurant and look forward to returning.
google avatar

Judy T.

Yelp
Another great taco spot in Santa Barbara. Legit salsa bar, excellent choices. Tacos are $3 each on fantastic homemade tortillas. I tried the shrimp: delicious, savory, great flavor - carnitas: rich, flavorful, a little overly fatty for my taste - and the pastor: good. I also ordered the beans which were on the stewed soupy side, nice flavor. I will definitely keep this on my list of local taco spots. Solid.

Pooja L.

Yelp
$12 for a huge plate of delicious nachos (which had lettuce, beans, salsa, cheese, and sour cream!) And a great unlimited salsa bar! The cashier was very kind and made ordering easy and we would definitely consider coming back here next time we're up in Santa Barbara.
google avatar

Yelp
I couldn't believe how delicious the food was. The biggest giveaway was the line out the door. Fresh, delicious and fantastic service. Can't wait to return for lunch. Tortas and tacos were delicious and full of flavor.

Ron B.

Yelp
Good food. Decent price. Great personality Easy to order One of the best tacos I have had

Andy L.

Yelp
Just had their asada burrito and HAD to post how good it was. Best burrito and the best price in town, and that's saying something since Santa Barbara is full of great Mexican places with amazing burrito choices. Parking is tough, but other than that, everything is 5 stars. Not greasy, full of tasty beef, just enough rice and beans and cheese, and a first class salsa bar. Packed with people, and no wonder.
google avatar

Yelp
Someone told me to try Tacos Pipeye out because they really liked them and I thought they were great. Four tacos for $10 was a great deal and they had a large variety of meats to choose from. I got a pastor, chorizo con papas, carnitas and asada. I liked them all!
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
This review is for the food truck, I haven't been in the restaurant yet, my favorite tacos in Santa Barbara!

Yelp
I am in town for Dr appt. and I decided to get carne asada tacos. I looked on Yelp and saw this place with good ratings. It did not disappoint , absolutely delicious carne asada and tortillas home made. Service was fast and it's just a hole in the wall but great atmosphere. I highly recommend if you are in Santa Barbara try this place. I will buy again for sure.

Melinda P.

Yelp
The most amazing chili relleno I've ever experienced. Wholeheartedly recommend this little hole-in-the-wall!
google avatar

Maggie S.

Yelp
This is an amazing place to go if you're traveling with kids and need a quick lunch. We had two cranky kids and they were very accommodating! We got tacos, a torta, and a hot dog. I'm not a big fan of corn tortillas and theirs were delicious. The torta was especially good!
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
Good food, friendly people, homemade tortillas, great prices, and some unique menu items. I regret not stopping sooner. For a recent dinner we had a lengua taco (not bad), a shrimp taco (delicious sauce and homemade slaw), a pork belly taco (not bad, but it was tender cubes of pork. I was expecting a slab.) and I simply had to try the pork rind taco (yum!). My companion had the asada burrito and loved it. The sauce, cheese, rice, and perfectly marinated steak combined with the homemade tortilla was a winner. We will be going back without a doubt.
google avatar

Leana Y.

Yelp
Stopped by SB just for these tacos! Friendly staff, fair prices, and tasty tacos. Will definitely be trying the pazole the next time we're in town!

Yelp
We had a great visit! Another taco shop in the area was closed, so we walked to Tacos Pipeye as an alternative and were not disappointed! The owner was helpful in offering recommendations to try, and we got a full variety of different tacos to sample. I would definitely get more of the al pastor on another visit. The salsa bar was the highlight, and the salsa with nopales was good enough to just eat by itself.
google avatar

Yelp
No Brutus or cans of spinach here, but lotsa luscious tacos. Home made corn tortillas! We ordered 8 different ones and all were excellent. Washed down with fresh cantaloupe drink, also got mixed fruit drink, so delightful. Best fish taco I've ever tasted. Burritos and more. Salsa bar, friendly service. Clean, good vibes. Hey Bill Murray, next time go here.

scott m.

Yelp
My fave taco joint in SB. Super chill vibe, counter and tables open to the street. Tacos are great and served quickly. I esp like the grilled fish and shrimp tacos but I've had most of the menu and it always satisfies. Yum

Optimus P.

Yelp
Simple, great tasting Mexican food. They use homemade tortillas and quality ingredients. I found restaurant via their catering truck after concert at SB Bowl.

Yelp
No words. Just worth the drive . If you're coming from LA stop here!'n Order anything you can't go wrong.

Yelp
I was recommended to try this place by a friend's coworker who said the street tacos were better than most of the places in Santa Barbara. I was intrigued since I've only tried a couple of places that I always thought were decent. As of now, it is $2.50/taco or $10 for 5 (it used to be $10 for 6 or $2/taco) The combo is a good deal, especially when you come with a few friends and each only eat 3-4 tacos. What sets this place apart from other taco spots is first, the hand made tortillas. They grill them so they're a tiny bit crispy and charred which is way more flavorful than your standard warmed up tortilla. I'm not sure if this has to do with the fact that the tortillas are hand made or how they heat them up but it's noticeably different. Next, the meat is so juicy and flavorful. My favorite meat here is the Barbacoa, SO flavorful. Next would be the Pastor, then carnitas. I'm not a huge fan of the asada (tends to be dry) or the pollo and haven't tried any of the others. They have a few vegetarian and pescatarian options as well. The salsa bar has a ton of options including a creamy avocado salsa and a peanut salsa which I don't see at too many taco places. This is one of my favorite taco spots in SB and will continue to recommend it to friends.

Yelp
Authentic, fresh, friendly staff. Worth checking out, food was delicious. In downtown, park on side street, easier to walk up. Take out or dine in. Good prices $ generous portions.

Eddie L.

Yelp
Tried once while in town and tried the chicken soup. Came back the next day for burrito. Price was reasonable. Burrito was very good. Open salsa bar was great with obviously freshly made offerings. The red salsa was MUY CALIENTE! But soooo addictive. Cashier/owner? was attentive and cool. Thanks for getting me! I'll be seeing you next time I'm in town for more yummy food from your casa.

Yelp
Tacos were delicious! Definitely tried most of the menu on the first visit... Asada- yummy, but a lil dry Al pastor - tasty Cabeza- tasty but too much fat (almost 40% of my taco was fat chunks) Bottego/Lamb- not too gamey but tasty Lengua- tender and good Fish- a bit salty and fishy in taste (and I love fish tacos in general) Chicharones- soft and oily (I knew what I was getting, just wanted to taste the flavor difference... I think I'll stick to the crispy chicharon texture) Barbacoa- tasty sauce Carnitas- flavorful Chirizo con papas- a new fave here The staff was super friendly and hooked us up after telling us they ran out of shrimp. The salsas range from hot to mild... I love their avocado salsa, the peanut salsa, and a red hot spicy salsa. Now that I've had a good amount of the taco, I'd come back for more. Some of the pictures show 6 tacos for 10... when I went it was 5 for 10... and another list for 4 for $10 (lengua, shrimp, fish, and tripa) Thanks again for the great food

Yelp
Tacos Pipeye has THE BEST TACOS in town! My coworker would not stop telling me about this place, so I finally gave in and went. I was not disappointed at all! The al pastor tacos are so flavorful and juicy, barbacoa is nice and moist, chorizo con papas are also great! They make hand made flour tortillas that are always fresh. Also, 6 tacos for $10! I always split with a friend and get 3 each, which is a perfect portion for me. They have other things on the menu like quesadillas and such, but I always choose tacos over other things. I've taken so many people here and it's now their favorite too, my brother begs me to take him here whenever he's visiting from SLO. Parking can be a bit difficult - there is no parking lot, but I can usually find street parking around the corner.

Yelp
The staff of Tacos Popeye are amazing! Yesterday I put in a catering order for today, for a work function. I paid in advance to make my pickup more seamless. Last night a work colleague alerted me to the fact that the event I was ordering for was actually next Monday. I immediately called the restaurant to ask them to change the order to next Monday, but was told they are closed on Monday. I then asked them to hold off on the order until I could figure things out. I was trying to reschedule my event, but could not, and was concerned that I could not get a refund. 10 minutes ago, unsolicited, I received a text from the restaurant stating the had issued me a full refund, with a copy of the refund statement! Who does that? Talk about amazing customer service. They've got me as a customer for life! Thank you Tacos Popeye!

John L.

Yelp
Tacos 4 for $12 & a Asada Burrito $11 ! Food was so good very good authentic mexican food FRESH salsa bar so many varieties to choose from I loved it ! My new favorite go to spot when I visit Santa Barbra!

Yelp
Tasty and fresh. Homemade corn tortillas for tacos. 4 for $10 good price. Steak and Carnitas tastes amazing.
