Google
Sweet little restaurant! We were in the mood for something new, & Google found this great Bosnian-owned place nearby. We're grateful for all the good reviews: they did not let us down. The portions were GEN-ER-OUS! The service was quick & we got the chance to chat with the owner; an amazing, friendly, & wise gent. The flavors were simple, and the food was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend it if you want a comfortable, home-cooked-style meal without any family drama. 😁

Google
I called the restaurant Monday at 1pm to see if they can accommodate the party of 16 for dinner that night. The owner was extremely nice and said yes. We came around 7pm. We had the most amazing service and food that we ever had. We would be coming there again. Big thank you to the owner that made this all happen.

Google
Very yummy! Was heading to The Heavy Anchor for a show and needed some dinner near by. Found this little place and the goat cheese fritters and seafood ravs were to DIE for! Staff was very friendly and we will be back for more!

Google
This is a gem. The food is interesting & delicious. The space is comfortable. And the server was patient with our many selections. I suggest a long Saturday lunch by a window in the sun with a bottle of wine. Highly recommend it.

As soon as we got there the server said there is only one cook only one server okay that’s fine a little bit of a wait he forgot our coffee it’s done we can wait until desert I looked at the menu they don’t even serve Bosnian food anymore it’s ore like they specialize in fish because everything on the menu was fish he brought out some of the wrong food there was four of us and a kid it was SO COLD LITERALLY I HAS TO PUT MY COAT ON , we get our correct food then we wanted to order desert we ask for our coffee again and a crepe he said sorry kitchen is closed NEVER even asked if we wanted something else or that the kitchen was going to close. Horrible choice for a night out

Google
It has some tasty food. A little high end, there is steak and seafood on the menu. I had the salmon and rice pilaf. The salmon was very good. The environment was clean and staff was very nice. It would be a nice place to take a date.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible food and service. Every dish clearly indicates how much care the head chef puts into it. Obviously classically trained in French techniques which brings such an elevated presentation and depth of flavor to the traditional Bosnian food offerings.

Yelp
I enjoyed a delicious lunch with a friend one afternoon! Quiet venue with personal friendly service! Food was fantastic! I will definitely be going back soon!

Yelp
We ate here in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, so the place was (predictably) empty except for the waiter/bartender. He was delightful, and took great care of us. The restaurant is spotless, well laid out, and must feel amazing when it's full. Between us, we ordered the sample platter, chicken crêpe, salmon salad and ćevapi, the latter of which being the entire reason I wanted to eat here- it's the best Bosnian street food item, ever, and something I hadn't eaten since being in Bosnia more than a decade ago. The food was amazing, all of it. Good portion size, the apps were timed well so that the entrées weren't served immediately, and the service was excellent. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Decent food. When we went they were short staffed, but they provided us updates. Seems like a better place to go on the weekends than a weekday though.

Yelp
Cevapi is the best Bosnian dish to order. Clean spacious restaurant highly recommended also across the street from Sebilj fountain

Yelp
I came to St. Louis from Chicago for business and we were in dire need of good, strong and delicious coffee. I yelped Bosnian coffee and found this place. Although the name is not Bosnian by any means, the moment you walk in, you feel the Bosnian atmosphere and you most certainly hear the Bosnian chatter and music. This place was not difficult to find but if you're an outsider like myself, it may be unusual to pass through a number of side streets to come here from the Hilton at the Ballpark. Parking was accessible, available on the street next to the restaurant or a block away. The street was extremely quiet at that time but the neighborhood is well known for being a Bosnian neighborhood. Our server was Semir and he is absolutely wonderful!! We decided to sit outside and he welcomed us in very graciously, made sure that our seats had cushions and that the sun wasn't in our eyes. We all ordered cappuccinos but then decided to get some appetizers since we were expected to be at a bigger dinner later. We ordered: 1. Goat Cheese Fritters- wow!! I didn't get a chance to take photos since our eyes were as hungry as our stomachs. It comes in a serving plate of four with tomatoes and balsamic seasoning at the bottom and the fried goat cheese fritters on the top. High recommend scooping some of the tomatoes and placing them over the fritters and allowing the balsamic to drip over the fritters before eating it, it is so delicious!! The balsamic really complimented the goat cheese, giving it that extra kick it needs. This was my favorite dish. 2. Shrimp Neum- this was sooo good that I actually thought I was in Croatia for a second! The appetizer came with about six large shrimp but they are really large shrimp. The shrimp were cooked to perfection before being placed in with wine sauce and tomatoes and sprinkled with Parmesan. It was really good. I'm not crazy for heavy sauce but this sauce was so good that once the shrimp was gone, I scraped the remainder of the sauce with bread. The plate was literally wiped clean! If you're a seafood lover, highly recommend! 3. Bosnian pastries: this dish is basically the Bosnian version of pierogi. It's triangle pieces of dough stuffed with beef. If you ask me, there could have been more beef because the heavy whipping really overpowers the beef. That or the beef needs to be seasoned better! You get about 6-7 of those homemade Bosnian beef pierogi's. Semir was very attentive to us, he kept checking in with us and making sure other tables were being served as well. The prices are very decent but the quality of the food stands out above all. I haven't tasted quality food like that in a long time! My family and I cannot wait to return to St. Louis again and come back here for dinner!!

Yelp
When we entered the restaurant the waiter was wearing a mask and we gave our order for drinks which were delivered by a female waitress who did not have a mask. When I asked her about a mask she said that the owner did not allow her to wear one and I commented that the waiter was wearing 1. Her response was well he is a Male. Later when IS to speak to the owner he said she can wear one or not as she chooses although she denied that that was true. I told him it was mandated by the city and the public health department and he said that they don't pay his bills and he will do if he chooses. For this reason I will never visit this restaurant again

Yelp
Food is great. Big menu. It is clean and bright don't let the outside fool you a must to go see an try

Ella M.

Yelp
The restaurant and food was good , but my complaint is only about the waitress. 1. She got us all drinks and one one extra drink that she left on our table in case someone wants it, not our mistake. 2. She charged our card with a $20 tip that was NOT APPROVED by us. No matter what our tip was or was not, she had NO RIGHT to decide what she deserves and to forge the credit card receipt (I'm assuming) to show the tip. We will never come back again while she is the waitress, or I will refuse to be served by her.

Yelp
I went here on a whim because I always pass it and it is always empty. I went because maybe this was a diamond in the rough. Nope. Service was terrible I got treated like I was a bother. The place was empty you would think they would treat me way better. The food was meh. I had the stuffed chicken. I made it at home the following week. For the longest I thought it was a front for some gang because how are they still in business when no one is ever there, the staff is rude, and the food is meh at best?

Catherine W.

Yelp
Was not open Sunday night (Monday morning, 12:20 am, 1st April 2019). No fooling! 3 stars is just a nudge to change hours to accurately reflect reality.

Denis S.

Yelp
Great Eastern European restaurant. Some great Bosnian food. Being from Sarajevo and seeing this place is St. Louis is just awesome. You won't be disappointed!

Fred M.

Yelp
First time last night and we enjoyed our veal and chicken dinners. The house salad was delicious. Check the menu because it's much more upscale than the pictures on other sites. Our waiter, Samir, was a wealth of information and gave great service. Beware: There IS smoking in this establishment.

Elyssa N.

Yelp
I called up here on accident and the guy was TERRIBLY RUDE. I'm suppose to be visiting sometime soon and was calling for a hotel (I now know this was not the number.) and he told me "this is a fucking restaurant." Who DOES THAT? I will make sure to NOT visit this place nor have anyone be treated like that. RUDE STAFF IS NOT OKAY!!! I wish I would of gotten his name but All I can say is, I called yesterday a little after 2pm (central time) and was treated so POORLY. I will never be treated so ugly by this place AGAIN.

Amy S.

Yelp
I love the food and the regulars even more. Samir makes us feel like royalty. We walk to thus clean and wonderful restaurant as we live less than a block away. We found Taft on accident when we first got together. Amazing find because the place can feel romantic. Oh the food... there's no describing it, really. You just need to go!

Jim P.

Yelp
Almost found this place by accident, we left a different place nearby that had way too long of a wait for a table. Absolutely loved this place, from the moment we walked in the door the service was great. We split some pastries and shrimp for appetizers and their cream sauce was spot on. I had we had veal, stuffed chicken, tilapia, all were really good. The potatoes I got as side to the veal were outstanding - perfect amount of crispiness without being crunchy. Just an overall great experience. And to top it off, i forgot my to go box and the waiter walked it out to our car to make sure I got it.

Hikmat H.

Yelp
Food was good I highly recommend the goat cheese and meat pasteries from the appetizer menu. Do not expect spicy exotic food here just some good home style cooked food with moderate spice. The salads were different and that's always a plus. Service is very friendly.

Yelp
my favorite pasta dish in the world!! extremely large portions the taste is always on point :) if you prefer more of a meatier dish there is steak on the menu and also really good braised veal and stuffed chicken :) great service reasonable price and you will leave with a tummy full of great food :)

George M.

Yelp
My first encounter with Bosnian cuisine. Similar to Hungarian, Polish and Lithuanian. We three had separate entries and two soups and two salads. The bean soup was different than any before. Pinto beans and veal chunks with lite cream and paprika broth. Salad was chopped cucumbers, onion and tomato and feta with a lite dressing. shared stuffed green peppers with whipped potatoes. All of which well prepared and presented. The wine selection was impressive and reasonably priced. Our server suggested a stout type beer Sarajevo which was impressive. We were outside where smoking was permitted. This is a return place for the quality of food and service at a reasonable price.

Kenley M.

Yelp
I have been to Taft Street several times. Fine Bosnian food is apparently not very different from better American food: they do straightforward preparations of steak, seafood, etc. I had a nice strip steak, and everyone else was happy with their entrees as well. The decor is far nicer than the surrounding neighborhood would suggest, appropriate for a date. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of food they served. We ordered a crepe-like dessert with chocolate sauce, which was good but not spectacular. Overall, Taft Street was a good value and a very pleasant experience.

James W.

Yelp
Never had Bosnian food before so nothing to compare it to but it wasn't bad. The food was a little bland but the proportions were huge!

Stefani P.

Yelp
Just wasn't that impressed. Nice service, but if the bread isn't good and both the chocolate cake and the baklava are lacking, something is wrong.

Mary W.

Yelp
Our group of four just had a wonderful evening at Taft Restaurant. We had the Bosnian beef pastries--described elsewhere in these reviews as a kind of triangular pierogi in sauce. Very tasty. One of our party had the encrusted veal--very good--and the rest of us had cevapi--beef sausages in large fried bread, with onions and tomatoes on the side. Excellent--and such a large serving that we took home as leftovers the equivalent of one entire order. We recommend the shopska salad too--chopped cucumber, tomatoes, onions, and feta cheese in olive oil. Very nice and a great accompaniment to cevapi. (Incidentally, cevapi was not on the menu. We are not Bosnian, but we just happened to know cevapi is a typical Bosnian dish, and requested it. Altogether, our party tried Bosnian beer, Serbian wine, and Bosnian apple whiskey as well; delicious. This is a very friendly, nice restaurant with white cloths on the table and vases of fresh flowers. We enjoyed ourselves this evening, and as always when we visit Bosnian restaurants, we are grateful for this immigrant community that has done so much for St. Louis.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Taft Street Restaurant and we found it a pleasant surprise. Have to chuckle at the reviewers who find the pace challenging. Not all the world is in a hurry, so we found the Eastern European atmosphere relaxing and a pleasant change of pace. The food was tasty and well prepared and the prices were very reasonable. We will go back and will recommend it on our website.

Yelp
I have been going to Taft Street for several years. Back in the mid 70's, the father of a friend lived in the apartments across the street. What is now Taft Street was an ordinary, South St. Louis bar. Now it is clean, linen table cloths and fresh flowers. The food is delectable. Salmon to die for, stuffed chicken with spinach and feta to crave, parmesan encrusted veal to make you veal good! The Bosnian Pastry (meze) is a ravioli in a delicious sauce. What is Bosnian food? Bosnian food is influenced by Greek, Turkish, Italian, Mediterranean, German with maybe a twist. Yes, it is Bosnian and on Saturday's sometimes about 8:00 PM treat yourself to some authentic music. Have a taste of culture other than American, it is so good. South St. Louis once boasted of the German culture and food and now it can again boast of the Bosnian. The wait staff is friendly, courteous, and attentive. Keep up the good work. Hvala mnogo!
