Menu is simple and classic Aussie-Japanese, food quality better than I expected. The fish are thick cut, sushi plate is a mist try to me.

Every dish here was bursting with fresh and unique flavors.The chefs truly put their best into every creation. I thoroughly enjoyed the soft shell crab roll called “spider roll.” The king fish carpaccio was particularly mouthwatering. I’ll definitely be returning again because of the pleasant staff and atmosphere of the place.

Really lovely Japanese restaurant with delicious dinner bento boxes. Broad menu, including a nice selection of drinks. 🍱 Ordered two bento boxes and the fish was deliciously fresh and the tempura was crispy. I'm not used to a bento box having multiple meats, so that was a fresh take. Cozy atmosphere and a legit restaurant in an area that tends to skew touristy. This one's a gem! 💳 Takes cards.

The best udon in Sydney (and honestly, all the food I’ve tried here is amazing). This place never disappoints, it’s my all-time favourite and I always come back! The lady who served us was so lovely, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Really love it xx

Eel bento box is delicious, more expensive than others in Sydney but makes sense given the location. They should make it more clear on their website they don't accept prams or really young kids.

Fabulous small family run Japanese restaurant. The food is fresh and carefully prepared. The chef owner can be seen working his magic in the kitchen and his charming wife looks after diners. The chef also likes cool jazz music that plays at right volume. Tago An never disappoints, love it!

This was a great find on our holiday (2 adults, 2 tweens). Intimate small cosy atmosphere. Food was fresh and delicious. Gyoza was truly amazing. Really wonderful experience.

Service wasn't too bad little rushed but not too bad. No Chardonnay by the glass so we ordered a bottle. Edamame beans needed more flavour or a bit more salt maybe. Prawn tempura with the dipping sauce was yummy. I didn't enjoy the sushi rolls especially the part where the salmon was extra chewy. The prawn tempura rolls were tasteful as for the mains 'king fish teriyaki' and 'chicken teryaki' were distasteful. I did like steamed rice though...

So glad we cane upon this little gem. Tago-An is our new favorite in Sydney. Will be taking friends!

The sushi and gyoza were amazing!! It's a cute little place with fair prices and talented chefs.

So I've been all over The Rocks looking for an affordable healthy meal. I passed by Tago-An a few times and read that you needed a reservation due to its limited seating. So finally I made it and came and was so happy. For $38 I got the Fuji Bento which had a little bit of everything. At first I was suspect and thought I'd be left hungry but after leaving I have to say I am 100% satisfied and full. I actually had to walk around for 30mins to let my stomach digest.

This establishment refused service to our family because we had a small child. For whatever reason they have issues with strollers. Not only that but they were terribly rude about the whole thing. Ordered some take out because I couldn't eat in. It must be nice to only do business with the people you want. In America we call that discrimination. The sushi roll I got was okay. Won't go back and I suggest going somewhere else.

Great food priced right. The sauces for the salmon and the beef are out of this world fantastic. It's a small place and they fill up but the service is very good.

The service was good and efficient. The food was very much on the salty side though. The wagyu beef rice bowl was ok but it was odd to have a layer of salad on it. The sushi was decent. Nice to place to come but the food was quite average. I'm a nice quiet setting on the corner of the street.

Nice little Japanese restaurant just outside the Rocks. Recommend making a reservation as it is a small place, and when we went at 6 pm, all tables were already reserved. They said if we could finish by 6:30, we could eat in, so we did. I had the sashimi combo, and the fish was very fresh and I enjoyed it. One in our group ordered tempura udon, which came with a large plate of tempura on the side. Another ordered the sliced beef steak and rice dish, and said it was tasty. The food was reasonably priced - 5 of us ate entrees for about $100 AUD (~$70 USD) total.

Found this little gem while walking to a different restaurant. I had to stop as menu was reasonably priced and I loved the cozy atmosphere. I ordered a bento box which was the perfect sample of the variety of food this place offers....sashimi, hand roll, pork, and beef teriyaki. It was fantastic!!

One of the best little secrets of the rocks. Amazing service, fresh dishes and great little interior. Keeps us coming back!
