We enjoyed every second on this beautiful island. The gardens are beautifully and majestically landscaped. The buildings also blend beautifully into this natural paradise. The hotel's pool is in desperate need of renovation. It's nearing the end of its life. The food is also somewhat lacking in variety, as the menu is very simple. This continues at breakfast. The breakfast offerings are too limited for this category of hotel. Three days on this island are ideal.

We absolutely LOVED our time on Taha'a. The pearl farm and vanilla farm experiences were both enlightening and memorable. We will definitely be back to stay on the island at some point in the future. It is like a slice of heaven.

My favorite among the Society Islands: optimal mix of beautiful nature, friendly natives and relatively few tourists.

Getting lost on a Pearl Farm on Vanilla island

Taha'a is a gorgeous Polynesian island. Our cruise ship stopped at Taha'a and Raiatea. We thought about which island to tour and finally decided to stay with Taha'a where we were docked. When we arrived, the Taha'a public market at the dock was still open. In addition to local produce – fruit, vegetable, and fish – local artists had stalls. One artist specialized in water color painting. We loved one of her self-portraits so much we bought it. We also bought a little vanilla, an island specialty. As our ship started leaving the dock at Poutoru, we saw a gentleman carrying the largest sweet potato I have ever seen. The sweet potato was humongous and must have weighed over 50 pounds. We talked to a friend on-board who said that while not common, the older islanders know where to find large sweet potatoes.

If you like hustle & bustle, then Pape'ete is your place; however, if you prefer beauty, solitude, and serenity, then you must go to Taha'a.
