Google
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tahk Omakase Sushi in Steamboat Springs, and I can confidently say it deserves a glowing 5-star review! From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional. The ambiance was warm and inviting, but what truly stole the show was the food. The sushi was incredibly fresh—each bite was a testament to the quality and care put into sourcing the ingredients. One standout moment was trying the cherry trout, a specialty from Japan that I’d never had before. It was an absolute delight—delicate, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The chef’s expertise shone through in every dish, making it clear why this place is a gem. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the stars! The night sky in Steamboat Springs was breathtaking, and somehow, it made the whole dining experience feel even more magical. If you’re looking for top-tier sushi and a memorable evening, Tahk Omakase is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Google
The place is very nice with the Chef putting a nice touch to the atmosphere. We tried a bunch of stuff and were surprised by the quality of the fish. However, the rice in all sushi was not prepared as one would expect for the price you pay (felt kinda doughy) and the maki rolls were not good, they were supermarket quality.

Anastasiia Kalashnykova

Google
The sushi roll was super spicy. Killed the tastes buds. Baked mussels were not tasty. Yellowtail sashimi didn’t not looked like. Many items from the menu were not available. All other food was good. Veg soup with tofu was amazing. Service is great.

Andrew Heidelberg

Google
Excellent sushi and sashimi. All the fish was fresh and flavor was great! The building is pretty small and fills up quick so making reservations are a good idea. Price is pretty steep but worth every penny. All the servers were friendly and helpful.

Shauna Kanel

Google
Outstanding service! Food was unbelievably tender, tasty, and well-portioned. The samurai nigiri was memorably delicious. Sale selection was excellent and the waitress gave great recommendations. The atmosphere and decor were extremely relaxing, and the unconventional seating was very comfortable.

Google
Your trip to Steamboat won’t be complete without the immaculate vibes and food at Omakase. Chef John was absolutely excellent. He is the sole reason for this 5 star review. He was quick, very knowledgeable about the food being served, and had great energy throughout the night. We were lucky enough to try so many pieces of Nigiri during the delicious tasting menu. The ingredients were so fresh, with dynamic flavors and precise construction.

Google
This place was really a fun time. Staff was super nice. We had a large group and they handled well. The only pointer I will give is to not put all the rolls on one plate but rather make it more intimate for each guest. It got a little confusing. The food was good and I would recommend.

Google
We had a great time eating Real Japanese sushi at your restaurant. Most importantly, every piece of sushi you served tasted great and was delicious. The atmosphere was awesome and We thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We hope to see you again soon.

Inne K.

Yelp
Great sashimi and rolls. Unique space. Accommodating to families w small kids running late. Didn't try omakase, will do next visit.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Been here a few times. I would say the best sushi in Steamboat but every time I have felt very un welcomed by staff. Was told after just sitting down we had to leave in an hour. Btw we were the only table around us to be told this. Waitress said everyone was texted about this, never received a text. Waitress was very unprofessional. As steamboat locals we will never go back. They really don't deserve the business.

D Z.

Yelp
Best sushi in steamboat for sure, worth trying Omakasa at least once, some of the rolls are excellent and provide better value. A bit pricey, overall and disappointing they charge $5 for the special wasabi.

Anthony C.

Yelp
Fresh fish Nice variety Satisfying Clean Elegant My experience: I came in for dinner by myself. I sat at the sushi bar. The Waitress and Chef were friendly, professional and attentive. I ordered the citrus Salmon roll. As well as 7 piece Nigiri. Both servings were very good. The fish was fresh and a nice assortment. The meal was satisfying. I would visit again. Recommend.

Carrie W.

Yelp
The food was very good. I loved my mule made with lemons. The boys had a whiskey flight. We shared a lot of stuff, edamame, Gyoza, sashimi, rolls, matcha tea, peanut butter dessert. Go with what your heart tells you and you won't be disappointed. Make a reservation ahead of time. The servers are very friendly and the ambiance is nice because every table is kind of private.

Patty W.

Yelp
Sushi in a land locked state? Why not?! This place was fun, good service from Greg, cocktails from the HH menu were on point. Pretty wide selection of sushi, too.

Nate H.

Yelp
Chef is an absolute jerk just like everyone says in these Yelp reviews. He asked us to stop talking and be quiet during his Omakase service. Also, the server recommended a bottle of Sake that was a "similar price" as the one we originally picked out. We got the bill and the bottle was $70 more expensive. The omakase was delicious but such an uncomfortable experience dining at the sushi counter. Will not be going back.

Clark C.

Yelp
Amazing sushi - as good or better than sushi I regularly eat in NYC and Boston. And, we had a great service experience - we sat at downstairs table. We almost didn't go to this place because of all the Yelp reviews referring to the asshole sushi chef who harasses customers sitting at the sushi bar. I think the morale of the story is... avoid the sushi bar and be prepared to pay top dollar for fresh, high quality sushi in a very expensive and wealthy ski town that is over 1,000 miles from the nearest ocean.

Michael D.

Yelp
Definitely delivered on the hype I've heard about this place around town! The best sushi steamboat has ever had hands down. The vibe is very cool and the lower level feels like a small sushi spot you'd find in Tokyo or New York. Only difference is this place has the steamboat touch of extremely friendly service that is unbeatable. The selection of fish is limited, but I'm sure that based on what's fresh and able to be flown in. The menu is very well curated and the toro we had was AAA. We loved it and will be back for sure. By the way don't miss the sake tasting flights... they are the best way to get your Tahk experience on the level.

Cath L.

Yelp
Great chefs, great service, omg the fish and ambiance. Make reservations though because it's kind of a small restaurant. Hours change seasonally. Downstairs is super cozy with stone walls.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Have had the omakase experience multiple times and always enjoy it. They get some great unique fish from all over the world flown in fresh, and it is presented and dressed perfectly. The people complaining just don't like the price or chef, but saying it tastes frozen or like fast food is an outright lie. I was there with 1 star, and she was rude and asked to leave. Everyone one else loved it. Can't wait to go back

Dara L.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere! So cozy. Very welcoming and outgoing service. Menu is perfect, just whatever we're looking for...and the food was fresh and delicious.

Lola P.

Yelp
The food is wonderful and deserves five stars. I was really put off by them lying about suggested tipping amounts. They lie by giving suggested tipping amounts like 20%, 25%, 30% with the wrong amount of money hoping people won't actually calculate themselves and believe them. I calculated and the suggested 20% tip is 22%. I think it is slimy considering how expensive this place is to begin with for them to be skimming off of tip. I really hope this post encourages them to put accurate and truthful tip amounts because calculating 20% in your brain is easy and it was very obvious.

Susan M.

Yelp
Very small portions for very large prices. Spent a fortune and left hungry. Not very many roll options. Mostly rolls with raw fish with little else to choose from for those who don't want undercooked fish.

Jake B.

Yelp
The guy doesn't care if you leave him a bad review. He's a total jerk that will treat you like you're a first grade student talking in his class. His food is very good, and that's made him as arrogant as he could be. He moved to a small pond to be the big fish. He would never be able to run a successful restaurant in a city with any sort of legitimate sushi competition. He doesn't think he relies on repeat business, but this sort of review inspired by his atrocious service mentality will sink his ship eventually. Good luck chef! Don't penalize the people that work for him, he clearly doesn't care for the people he employs or he'd understand how his rudeness and pomposity affects their lives.

Mike G.

Yelp
Tahk is crap! Over priced and rushed out by management after $500 meal.. Tasted like fast food buffet. Sat under air conditioner that had very dirty filters and was dripping sludge. My first and only bad meal in Steamboat!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Rude staff and owner. Overpriced for regular menu items. They refuse to deal with patrons with allergies versus adjusting sushi items- which are all made to order anyway.

Mark R.

Yelp
Don't sit at the sushi bar. This restaurant has great interior, great waitresses, good location, and good sushi. We had a tasting menu at the sushi bar. The sushi chef was very very rude to our party. He interrupted one of party members in conversation to tell us we can't talk when he talks, he told one of our party members "I don't like you". I think he expected us to sit the entire meal in silence waiting to hear him. We tried to be friendly- he just kept being rude to us. He was also rude to the other staff. Unfortunately it ruined the expensive experience for us. We will not go back.

Jim T.

Yelp
Incredible. This is the second visit here. The textures and the freshness! Even the wasabi is the best we ever had. Table waiting for us and incredible wait staff. Great cocktails with clear cubes. And deserts of chocolate peanut butter pie, and a mousse to share. Cannot wait to see you next year!

Jena J.

Yelp
Awful experience. please trust what everyone else says on yelp says: the chef is an absolute jerk. Not worth giving them your money. Not an exaggeration that it is the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in Steamboat. Decent frozen fish but not worth dealing with such a narcissistic jerk - all of his staff apologized behind his back and comped drinks for why a jerk he was.

Rachael L.

Yelp
I'm so happy that I decided to do Omakase for my husband's birthday. It was definitely a special treat and as fresh as anything you experience in the coastal cities, in the middle of Colorado. The experience was more social than I expected because there were 2 other couples at the seating with us. It was actually really cool to chat about everyone's adventures while savoring delicate pieces of sushi. We also had a dedicated bartender who made the most amazing cocktails. The Japanese whiskey sour was a wonderful balance of flavors. Then he made me a custom drink with seasonal strawberries and yuzu that somehow tasted like the freshest strawberry I had ever had. Something about the acidity of the Yuzu bringing out the freshness of the strawberry. Not to harp on the drinks, but they were that good. Not sure what this was called but ask for the strawberry yuzu drink! The owner sat down with us for a while and I got to chat with him a little about his story coming from San Francisco and his creative process. I'm always a little starstruck when I speak with chefs but he was super chill and appreciative of my genuine endless compliments. So much more than a sushi dinner - the experience will not be forgotten and was certainly a highlight of ours in Steamboat.

Brad A.

Yelp
Great meal and evening. Fish was fresh and the room was very authentically decorated. Would definitely go again.

Bo L.

Yelp
Tahk Omakase Sushi truly delivered an authentic sushi experience that transported me straight to Japan. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. I can't wait to visit them when they re-open

Anna Y.

Yelp
The server was super nice and we wanted to not spend a lot but we did. Order all of their specials it's amazing! The fish is so fresh surprisingly and the combination of flavors are so delicious. This place is small so you'll need to make a reservation.

Kelli B.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious sashimi. Just get ready for a hefty check as it was very pricey for the amount of food we got. Service was great, no complaints there.

Karl P.

Yelp
This was a sushi experience that has had no parallel in my home sushi city of NYC or my adopted sushi city of Tokushima. First, the intimacy and welcoming comfort of the design of the venue in its older building on Lincoln is established with a thoughtful display of traditional art, natural woods and Japanese art. The fish is flown in fresh and direct'. The chef's are accessible and, if you engage with them you will learn about subtle tastings on fresh offerings. Nice wine list. Exceptional selection of Japanese whisky. Not to be missed

Alden G.

Yelp
Best sushi in Steamboat. Attentive staff, nice cocktail selection, cozy bar area. Happy hour sushi. Omakase is what people come for, this is the chef's tasting menu -- you get what is being served fresh today. Reservations required, call well in advance, Tahk is a popular spot for good reasons.

Michael C.

Yelp
Could not believe the freshness of the sushi, amazing flavors, and range of sushi choices. For example, there were five types / cuts of tuna on the menu when we dined. All were excellent. Great selection of sake, including unfiltered sakes. In addition to all five people in our party loving every cut of sushi / sashimi, we also loved the Karaage and the Carpaccio. One of the best meals we had while visiting Steamboat!

Carly B.

Yelp
For a restaurant that boasts a "Michelin star chef from SF" this place is extremely elementary. From the start, our server was entirely uneducated. When asked about oysters, she couldn't tell us what kind they were beyond "east or west coast." She had absolutely no idea what on the menu was gluten free and couldn't have been less helpful if she tried. After receiving oysters with a gluten sauce we were told it was "just a dash" so if you have any level of allergy, DO NOT risk this restaurant. As locals we were so excited to try this place but it was an incredibly disappointment, would never return and would never recommend.

Mike B.

Yelp
Love this place!! First time here and I will definitely be back. We ate so much delicious food. Goyza and edamame for starters. Samurai, Yoshi, Krabby, and Geisha rolls. We even got the sake flight. Everything was so freaking good! The staff is fantastic Erin was our waitress and went above and beyond. Even the owner stopped by our table and said hello and thanked us for coming in. I can't wait to come back.

Jim B.

Yelp
This was a meal of polar opposites, unfortunately. Enjoying the omakase at the chef's table, the wait staff was exceptional on a busy ski season Friday night. The fish was impeccable quality and the selection was expertly prepared. Our table was inquisitive and engaged throughout the meal. Sadly, the chef grew irritable and short with our honest questions around the fish. "Look it up" was the response when we wanted to learn more about the big eye tuna, which happened to be one of the best bites of the evening. The irritability increased seemingly when we directed our conversation to the sous chef and other staff. Our lively and polite table lost a bit of our vibe as a result. As much as we were thrilled with the meal, we walked away with a sour impression and will not return for an omakase reservation. Important side note, the entire female wait staff is absolutely gorgeous.

H C.

Yelp
Went to this places based on the reviews and they did not disappoints. Service was fast. They offer happy hour items until 6 pm. Would go again if we come to the areas.

Khalid S.

Yelp
Pricey, but very high quality. Head chef and staff were super friendly to our family. The salmon citrus and Kyoto rolls were so good. Lots of tuna variants, if you're into it. Same with the Jp whisky selection. And they had Orion beer - bonus! High marks for sustainability (metal straws, cloth napkins, reusable おはし). We'll be back!

Lex S.

Yelp
Delicious sushi!! The sushi rolls with the lemon rind on it was my absolute fave. Such a new flavor for sushi. We did takeout and it was still great. Would get again.

H T.

Yelp
LOVE this place SO much!!! And I'm not a big sushi eater. The ambiance is to die for. Super cool chill vibe - probably the hippest place in town. Don't know who designed the interior but I want them to do my home. Chef John and staff are fun and fall over themselves to take care of customers. As for the food, such a variety. My fav is the crab tempura. Also love the specialty drinks. I could eat here every day and so enjoy relaxing after a long day of work at their well-priced HH. Check it out, you'll return again and again.

David B.

Yelp
First time here and found off of Yelp. Funky set up where you first go downstairs to check in versus when you walk in the door. Whatever. Was seated a bit after we checked in (had reservations) and got into the menu. Typical setup with sushi/sake items. Took a while to get our order placed but once it was taken our food came pretty quickly. Quality and size was good and seemed quite fresh.

Jenafer P.

Yelp
One of the most experiences we have had in Steamboat! This is an absolute must try! The chefs tasting was beyond exceptional....especially for the price. Chef Tauk should be a hand model on the side and sell his house made soy sauce on the side!!! Can't wait Visit again for an amazing experience!

Katherine D.

Yelp
This is the best sushi I've had in the USA. Any negative reviews are from curious diners who don't understand that given the very limited seating, it is important to show up on time, respect chef's time, and to please listen when he is explaining each piece. You will love this sushi experience!

Amy Y.

Yelp
We enjoyed our first visit toTahk. The service was wonderful, the food was amazing and the vibe was laid back. We would definitely go back!

Roxcie L.

Yelp
Valentine's dinner: we got the Chef special so we sat in front of the chef and it was lovely. Chef was friendly and did a great job with our sushi selection. We enjoyed it so much. We even got a little sushi Cherry tree plate. The Order cam with a choice of 10 or 12 pieces Nigiri style and the selection ranged from different types of Salmon to yellowtail and much more. It also came with a side of seaweed salad with crab and red miso soup. All very delicious. Definitely recommend the experience and coming here all the rolls they were preparing looked amazing. Friendly staff!

Bri G.

Yelp
So glad to have stumbled upon this cozy, upbeat sushi 'den' ... that feels like a speakeasy. Maybe they should have a secret password, for how great the food and presentation is. John the owner and sushi chef, is inviting, knowledgeable and personable. Making our 4 course special with zest and answers to all of my questions. Will be stopping, when in Steamboat Springs again! Thank you staff!! #thekitchenmagician #jsames75 #firststopoutofquarantine

Jenny C.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful! My favorite sushi restaurant EVER and I eat tons of sushi! I ordered the special, which was the Shogun and it was unreal! I had to order another round. The Bluefin tuna belly was outstanding. High quality, melt in your mouth fish all around! The sake was also absolutely delicious! I wish I lived in Steamboat to have this place once a week! The owner and the sushi chefs came out to greet us after the meal. Megan, our server was so wonderful and helpful with suggestions. You will not regret trying this place!

Doug P.

Yelp
Simply the best all the way around. Food is superb with several rare and delicious cuts on the menu. The mushroom salad is a great shared appetizer.

Olivia B.

Yelp
A hidden gem near the ski slopes of Steamboat Springs! Had the omakase and it did not disappoint. Coming from Hawaii, I can tell you that this place is legit. It's also very reasonably oeuvre for what you get. Fish just melted in my mouth. Excellent service and super nice decor! Go go go!!!

Michael W.

Yelp
The food was very good. Although the service and the upstairs dinning area left much to be desired. The down stairs dinning area had a wonderful ambiance and seemed like it would make your dining experience far better than if your sitting in the newer area upstairs in the back. This area is very plan and just underwhelming to say the least. Just know when you make your reservation to ask to be seated downstairs and I'm sure you will have a much better experience then we did.

Leila D.

Yelp
Super yummy and a great addition to the Steamboat Culinary Landscape. We sat at the bar and did the Omakase experience and were blown away by, not only the quality of the sushi, but also the service we received. It was fun to watch Chef John prepare our sushi and he also took the time to explain and educate us on all the different fish he was serving and its origins. A definite must if you love quality sushi and are in Steamboat. Have already made reservations to return.

Lingran X.

Yelp
It was way too expensive considering it's food quality. Definitely not worth the money.

joe b.

Yelp
Very nice space, and friendly service. I like my rice firmer, and a little more finish done with the fish, but the quality of the fish is very good. Limited bar for now. I think next time we'll try the izakaya. Then give final verdict.

Peter G.

Yelp
Sushi of the highest quality has arrived in SB. If your not looking closely for this restaurant you will walk past the door. Located downstairs on Lincoln ave closet to 8th street. Menu has several rolls along with specialty rolls, an extensive list of fresh fish for either nigiri or sashimi. Very fresh and flavorful, good service. Will definitely be back.
