Google
This was an incredible experience. We had a small group for a 4 hour tour and our guide was very patient. He even gave us an extra climb after our break. I was impressed with the difficulty. I thought it would be easier. It was definitely an adrenalin rush. some of the climbs were pretty steep and walking on a rope was my biggest accomplishment. I felt pretty safe with all the steel steps and being clipped in helped! My 20 year old son said it was his best experience. I would definitely recommend this company.

Google
We had an absolutely great time on our trip. We booked the 4 hour option, and I highly recommend this for anyone athletic looking for a fun challenge. No better way to enjoy the mountain with little to no climbing experience. The scenery was incredible and we even got to see a huge eagle sorrowing above us. We also got to wave at our family members as they went by on the tram. Even though we were high up, we never felt unsafe or out of control. Also, our guide, Micheal, was really great and took a some awesome photos of our group. I definitely recommend him to anyone else looking to make a booking.

Google
Mountain climbing at its safest but also fun and challenging. The course, from its holds and views and even monkey bridges were a blast, even if you're someone who is looking to get out of their comfort zone. Tim was a great guide — and basically a sherpa when it came to climbing the trail. Full recommend as a half day experience when visiting the Tahoe area.

Google
We love via Ferrata. This was our 3rd destination to explore. The continuous clip system was different, took a minute to get used to. Not bad, just different than the two clips we’re used to. Guide was nice. Ended up with a group of 6 yappy females on a birthday trip and we were glad to be able to split off and go on a different path. Difficulty level was maybe a 3 out of 10. Views were amazing , weather was awesome (end of July). Definitely bring a hydration pack. They provided gloves (shoes are $10 but not necessary). For this climb, regular shoes would work. Only negative thing I will say is the walk back is much longer than anticipated. They provided complimentary beer and sparkling water after which was nice.

Google
My sister and I had the best time on the 4 hour via ferrata with Jake! He took the most incredible photos of us throughout the trip and was knowledgeable and fun to hang on the mountain with. If you're looking for an adventure photographer to shoot you climbing, hiking, skiing, etc you should absolutely reach out to Jake - guide + photographer all in one! If you love hiking and mountains then you have to do the 4 hour - anything shorter wouldn't have been enough. If they added a 6 hour option I would absolutely do it again. Highly recommend doing this in the off season (fall or spring) to avoid being in a large group and to avoid roasting on the mountain in the sun. The weather was perfect mid september and we were the only ones in our group. Take the gloves when offered - they made a big difference. If you are looking for a fun way to get on the mountain that is low stress and you have no experience you should do the 2 hour option for sure and I'll bet you'll get hooked and want to come back for the 4 hour :) Thanks Jake and Alpenglow Expeditions!

Jake H.

Google
Tahoe Via Ferrata with Alpenglow Expeditions was incredible! If you can have Mike as your guide, request him and ask him about his summit to Everest! The 4-hour via ferrata is the way to go. This hike up the mountain being hooked to cables is an awesome adventure trip. Sunny made everything easy to schedule and they take you up to the start on a beast of a terrain vehicle. You won’t regret doing this, and at Tahoe, you get incredible views! Thanks Mike and Alpenglow for a wonderful trip!!

Google
Epic freaking adventure! I’ve completed the Eagle course at fort Benning hooah. I’ve hiked some steep mountains and had to slide down snowy slopes on my bottom. I’ve done another via Ferrata in Kentucky. I say this to qualify my first statement. Do it! Guides were excellent.

Google
Super experience with Via Ferrata. The 3 hour loophole climb was perfect for us. It was challenging and quite hot (25°C) but felt hotter at times. Our 9 year old son lived it, but it pushed his bravery at times. Amazing views and a fab achievement. Our guide (birthday boy) Mike was perfect; engaging and gave us alot of confidence but didn't push us too hard. 100% recommend. Try and do on a weekday, gets super busy on weekends

Yelp
It is one of the most rewarding and exciting things I've done in my entire life. I have a lifelong fear of heights. This adventure made me confront my fears. The guides Mike and Luke were simply amazing. So are all the folks in their staff. Both are experts in what they do. I have low athletic aptitude and combined with my apprehension of heights, the guides went an extra mile to show me the techniques to navigate through the terrain. Because of fear of heights, my brain would freeze and the guides expertly helped me get unstuck by telling me where to step and the order of steps to take. The view outside was stunning. Never in my life would I have imagined climbing a mountain and exploring it through impassable terrain. Never in my life would I have imagined I could traverse through this type of seemingly impassable terrain. I was so close to not showing up due to fear of heights and I feel elated and blessed I did. I also want to point out that the guides put safety first and they know exactly what to do to keep everyone safe. For example, they would notice if the rope was tangled even before I did. They also closely monitor us to make sure we succeed. The staff are also knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, it was amazing and I am blessed to confront my fears with expert guidance from the team.

Yelp
The Tahoe Via Ferrata was a highlight of our trip. The team at Alpineglow Glow expeditions is top notch, and a special shout-out to our guide Isaac! He was very attentive to our parties needs, our group of six had people from age 8 to 66 years old and Issac made sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time. My only regret is only booking the 2hr tour, next time we are definitely doing the 4hr trip. The route itself is well maintained and fun for people that have never climbed, to the experienced climber. I highly recommended Tahoe Via Ferrata at Palisades Tahoe for a fun family outing!

Tawnya D.

Yelp
Love love love this adventure. Beginner friendly and so much fun! Went with friends and we enjoyed it so much we have plans to come back and bring our families. Our guide Liam was calm and a great guide and teacher. If you're on the fence, do it!
google avatar

Boyo I.

Yelp
Terrashardtastic!! 5 of us spent 4+ hours with guide Liam today. The group included mid-40s to mid 50s people in good share but no climbing experience and two kids, ages 11 and 14. We really did not know what to expect even after watching the introductory videos. Is this a mild high altitude hike? Is it like zip lining? River rafting? I incorrectly assumed that this was something that "anyone" could do, sort of like zip lining. However, I think this experience was a little more "thrill-seeker" rather than a milder high elevation hiking trip. For example, one of the adults was scared throughout the adventure, but persevered and felt a sense of accomplishment afterwards...but wouldn't do it again because of the fear factor. The rest of us would do it again. The kids loved it and were fearless. For anyone afraid of heights (as I am), this is definitely going to be a challenging experience, but one that I would highly recommend. This would also be a great team building outing for leaders in any organization. It was exhilarating, challenging, beautiful, scary (a couple of moments) and overall a very rewarding experience.

Yelp
This is a must when coming to Tahoe. Our tour guide Rich was super nice and the climb was superb. The climbing just keeps going up and up and you get a beautiful view of Squaw Valley!

Davis F.

Yelp
My two friends and I did this over the weekend and it was amazing! Matt was our guide, he was very kind and knowledgeable. I felt totally secure the whole time and the views are on another level. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Great overall company and the guides were fantastic. What a great adventure for those looking to truly experiencing Squaw Valley in a different way! Professional and organized, the day was great! Couldn't recommend more!

Yelp
OMG, one of the best spring days ever. I arrived early just cause I was so excited to do the Tahoe Via Ferrata. It was a good thing I showed up early because I neglected to be a light jacket. And because unseasonably chilly weather at Squaw I needed one. Griffin the young man that helped me check in, assured me I had time to either go to Tahoe city and pick one up or go to Blue Zone sports in Truckee. I elected to go to Blue Zone and pick up a jacket at a reasonable price. I got back in plenty time to meet up with Ally our guide for the adventure. Being mid week our group was just three guys. Ally helped us all the adjusting our gear so we all comfortable and felt safe. Shortly after that all started a short ride up Squaw Valley to our starting point underneath the tram. Another explanation on how we were to be tethered to a wire rope on our climb up the face. Although I was physically challenged a few times. Ally's attention to member of her team made us all feel safe and comfortable even in a demanding situation. I truly had a epic time. Have already checked with a friend and made plans to go back up and spend another fabulous day with Ally and her team. Ally is also a Backcountry Ski Guide. After my day with her this spring I not only plan on going back up for a additional day with the Tahoe Vie Ferrata but hiring her for at least a day in the backcountry. Just had one of the best days ever. I'd highly recommend taking one of their tours up on the mountain.

Yelp
Awesome and adrenaline-pumping mountain exploration experience! Pros: -Super fun and exhilarating way to explore the face at Squaw, and play mountaineer for a half day -Really experienced guide (and you should always take your guide's subtle hints) -Safe, assuming you don't go out of your way to do something dumb -Good route construction and design: it always seemed to have an iron handhold/foothold, or natural feature/friction wherever I wanted one -Really well coordinated, great communications, both in advance, and while on the route. One client at the rear of our group was increasingly exhausted and fearful, and magically out of nowhere, someone appeared, and helped the client bypass the last exciting feature. -The new and advanced cable hardware and junctions are a bit safer and more foolproof than legacy via ferrata hardware. -Pretty solid rock, very minimal pebble-fall -Really nice terrain variety on the route(s) Cons: -The Release form releases them all liability, as you would expect -Not cheap! Observations: -Is physically demanding; and if you are very afraid of heights, emotionally demanding (duh, you're mountain climbing). If you are active and game for everything, you'll be fine. -If you have free-climbed rock previously, you'll have to re-learn it's OK to pull on the cable here. It's via ferrata, not free climbing. -Plan on a good meal and a beer afterwards!

Yelp
The Tahoe Via Ferrata was an absolutely unique and beautiful experience. We took our company up for a manager's team building and our group ranged in skill levels from avid rock climbers to first time in the mountains. They made each of us feel completely confident and at ease throughout every piece of the climb. Possibly the most impressive aspect was how accessible and yet still thrilling and fun it was for all of us despite our varying backgrounds. The Alpenglow guides themselves were nothing short of spectacular. They are meticulously trained, have the highest certifications and we could count on them with our lives. They also have the reputation in Truckee/Tahoe of being by far the best guides in this area. We will definitely be up there again when they reopen next season!

Yelp
Semi-avid indoor climber and Squaw passholder for a few years, I can't recommend this experience enough. Exciting enough for the experienced climber (especially those over 40 like me), but not technical so most everyone can enjoy it. Basically not much more difficult than climbing a ladder, a really high one. If you're ever wondered what it would be like scaling the granite cliffs you see when taking the tram at Squaw, this is it. Our guide Whit was friendly, personable, and professional, as were the rest of the guides and staff.

Yelp
My daughter and I did this It was a very unique experience, but it is not for the faint of heart, there are some very exposed sections, and you do need to be in good shape.

Yelp
What a cool and amazing experience! We had so much fun, and lucked out with the added adventure of snow crossing since we went so early in the season. Jarad made it easy and more fun. He is really nice and patient and would help us through the more challenging parts. A few of the people in our group were afraid of heights and were still able to complete the course and have a great time. This is a great activity for people of all ages, would highly recommend!

Yelp
We were in Squaw for Wanderlust Yoga and decided to try this out. We were not disappointed in the least. It all started with their fantastic social media communications with Sara then once we met the staff and took our climb with Dustin we were blown away with everything. Highly recommend, worth every dollar!!

Alan B.

Yelp
As a non climber but generally active person, this was super fun and well worth the price. Definitely something to try at least once. I'll prob do it a few more times because you can keep challenging yourself without risking life and limb. Hike down at sunset was beautiful. There was a tough little 7 yr old on the climb that was fun to see. My guide was Whit and he was great too.

Yelp
I've done the Tahoe Via Ferrata twice now and it is an absolute blast. The guides and team are the best. Do it you will love it and feel like a Rock star.

Yelp
We had a great time doing this on September 22nd. Will is a great guide and calmly talked us through the hike/climb up. Views were spectacular and the only part of the trip that may give pause for some would be the bridge walk at the end (totally optional). I am a bit nervous about heights, but Will is also, as he says, part guide and part psychologist, and he knows much far each person can go. I took my ex up for her birthday and she had a blast. She would easily go again.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Such an amazing experience and well worth the price! I'm in my 50s and my teenage son and I had a blast. We did the Skyline Traverse route and with Covid restrictions, we didn't see anyone else the entire time! Our guide, Jarad, was great - really nice, encouraging, and a professional mountain climbing guide when not working here. You don't need any experience but you should be in somewhat in shape especially with the altitude. I never felt unsafe although there are definitely spots where you need to push yourself mentally. Also, our guide took great photos of us with his phone throughout the hike and then shared them with us after. Highly recommend and hope to do this again next summer!!

Yelp
Super fun and challenging adventure giving you a unique adventure right in Squaw Valley. The staff was great and I felt very safe. The route takes you up the rock face up to the Tram tower. The rock and the views are spectacular.

Yelp
It was a super adventure! Getting to scale the rocks and not fearing for your life helps you enjoy the views more :) Jared was a great guide and knew what he was doing :) totally recommend this for everyone!

Susan W.

Yelp
We had the best time EVER!!! It was beyond my expectations of what I thought it would be like. Our guide (Dave Nettle) was AMAZING!!! He made the adventure so fun for our family (myself, my sister and my 18 year old daughter). Dave was so knowledgeable, experienced, and best of all FUN. Not to mention that he made us feel safe and secure as there were some pretty exciting (challenging) parts on the climb. I would LOVE to do it again and maybe try a different course. But I highly recommend it to everyone. You will not be disappointed!!

Yelp
This was a last minute decision. I saw a video and immediately wanted to try it. It was beautiful, fun and challenging at the same time. The views were amazing. My guide Will was patient and helpful. Only the lower half was open went I went. The second half is coming soon. I would ll definitely go and do it again. I never felt unsafe. There is plenty of foot and hand holds along the way.

Kevin K.

Yelp
Tahoe Via gave us non-climbers a chance to experience rock climbing in an incredibly beautiful setting. Our guide Will was fantastic--confident, patient, very friendly, and seemed to be able to read our abilities and comfort levels very accurately. The system is very safe, but still allows for some of the challenges (physical AND mental!) of climbing up (and down) peaks--it will get the heart pumping. Spectacular setting. We did the 2 1/2 hour tour, and will return for the half day. 100% recommended.

Karen B.

Yelp
This was an amazing adventure! My 12 and 13 year old kids had a blast. Scott was an incredible guide. We felt safe and I would recommend it to anyone!

Tom R.

Yelp
This was fun. The views are fantastic. The equipment was pretty good. The harness and hook-in was sturdy so there was really no fear of falling. They provided helmets, harness and gloves. They maybe could use some newer helmets. The guide was great. He took pictures as we climbed up and did not charge for them like a lot of other places I have been. My wife and I (active 57 and 62 year olds) had no problems getting to the top. Even if you are afraid of heights, I think you could handle this. I don't usually say this but I thought it was worth the money!

Janelle C.

Yelp
This experience is AMAZING!!! We decided to check out this new activity after lapping some Shirley turns and hiking to ski National. Pete was our guide and assessed our small group quickly to ensure we all had a great experience. Not only did he help us navigate the course but had stories and fun anecdotes to share along the way. Alpenglow's Via Ferrata is a fun, exhilarating and at times, adrenaline-filled climb, with stunning views and gets your whole body working. I highly recommend this awesome activity to anyone who loves being outside!

L R.

Yelp
My husband and I had just arrived at Squaw from the Bay Area, when we saw a sign advertising Via Ferrata. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon, so we decided to give Alpenglow a call. We lucked out with the last tour of the day with only the two of us. We had a fantastic time with our guide, Sam. The views were amazing, and the route was challenging, but we always felt safe. We are looking forward to going back in the Spring when more routes are open. Thanks for taking us!!
