So run down! At least the Homewood Cottage. Broken down furniture, filthy entryway, ripped up carpet, ants all over bathroom (and no electrical outlet in the bathroom) and a disgusting ‘brown streak” on sheets. I had the sheets swapped out after sleeping on the comforter. I checked out a day early and was denied refund and told to send pictures to an email address. I did so, explaining everything, NO answer. No apology and obviously no refund for unused night. ||The woman at the desk told me regarding the ants “well, we’re in the woods”. Duh. I’ve been coming to Tahoe my whole life and owned a cabin at one time. Then she said, “that’s many people’s favorite cabin”. Look at these pix and you be the judge.||I don’t know what’s happened here. They also own the Rustic Cottages down the road which have always been delightful (but were sold out). I have mixed feeling about posting a negative review for a mom and pop business but this was just beyond the pale.

My wife and I stayed at Rustic Cottages last year and loved it, so we wanted to try their other location this year.  We were not disappointed!  The cabin we stayed in this year, Cottonwood, was roomier than our previous one, and all of the amenities are the same as Rustic Cottages!  They have movies to borrow, board games and yard games for fun, and souvenir coffee mugs.  The breakfast is among the best continental breakfasts I have experienced.  The location is serene, yet has easy access to all of North Lake Tahoe's attractions and shops.  We didn't get a chance to try the pool, but it looked nice and clean.  It was definitely popular with other guests. With the friendly staff, quiet and cozy rooms, and wonderful location, we will definitely be back again!

Booked a long weekend stay at Rustic Cottages. We found out later that we could stay for free at a family member's house in the area but were no-longer able to cancel our booking for free because we were no longer within their policy period. Rustic Cottages said if someone else books the cabin before our stay then I would get my money back. 2 days before our Tahoe trip started I called to see if they had booked the cabin - otherwise I'll be staying there to get my money's worth. They told me that they had booked it and I'll be getting a refund. I asked if they could confirm that through an email which they did. They never refunded me. $745 lost because they wanted to double book a room.

we booked last minute for NYE and thank God there was still an available room! We werent really able to pick a room of our choice since it was the last room left, but we couldnt complain! The price was reasonably fair, and the place was really good! The locations was good- the beach was right across the street, it is near safeway and other stores (for all your needs), for snowboarding and skiing, it is also a few miles away from squaw valley and northstar. The cabin was complete with all the kitchen and dining utensils, we never had a problem preparing our food, plus there's also breakfast included, free cookies and coffee at the front desk! ||Over all i think this was a good find, really an awesome place!

The showers did not work properly, the cabins were all dirty upon entry, the WiFi had a very poor connection that did not work on most devices throughout the premises, and all of the appliances were outdated. The management team promised to give a refund for the remainder of the visit upon early exit, but then proceeded to deny this claim and tried to intimidate and call us a liar for asking. Overall, stay here if no WiFi, poor management, and outdated appliances are your thing, but there are much better places to stay just down the road.

We booked the lodge for a family reunion, and had trouble with such things as a toilet that wouldn't stop flushing, a refrigerator that wouldn't cool down, outlets that didn't work, lamps without bulbs, et cetera. The staff seemed indifferent to service requests. Wifi was spotty, and noise from the road was constant. At night, one would have to choose between sleeping hot with the windows closed or sleeping cool with constant noise. Bears were a daily nuisance, which was problematic with children around.

We originally booked our room at the Rustic Cottages resort and there was a problem so we were relocated to Tahoe Vista Lodge & Cabins. Nice surprise! We didn't know what to expect becuase we hadn't researched this location. We were pleasantly surprised. This location has a better view and the place was really nice. We stayed one night in Tahoe and loved every minute of it! We had a duplex cabin with two bedrooms and two daybeds in the living room. Plenty of room for the five of us. We had a great view of the Ponderosa pines and Lake Tahoe right from our front porch. The room was clean and the kitchen had all the kitchen ware you'd need to cook a full meal (bbq grill included). Swam in the pool (although it was a tad chilly) and had a great time with not a lot of people around (one other person). We did have some excitement when a bear came down a tree and ran up beside the cabin and into the manzanita bushes behind the cabin! Agh! Breakfast at the main lodge is included in the price but we didn't indulge. All in all, it was a great experience and we will definitely stay here if we visit Tahoe in the future!

Great quiet location. Cabin was clean and comfortable. Little kitchen with everything we needed for meals. Breakfast included at Rustic Cottages, we didn't try it but heard it was great. Cabins are closer than they appear to be on the map, but still plenty of privacy. We were able to park our car trailer next to the cabin and still had room for the truck. (Could be a problem in certain units or if they were totally booked) Great stay and can't wait to come back.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place for our annual extended family vacation! Each family can get their own cabin and there's plenty of room to hang out together in the common grass area or the pool. It's also great distance to a number of awesome beaches and the daily cookies and brownies are such a nice treat! The staff is always so sweet and accommodating. The cabins have everything you need and they are comfortable, but they are rustic so don't expect a modern, fancy cabin.

Yelp
First off, if i'm being honest, this place is definitely not worth the price. The Tv is very old and glitches every time i turn it on. There is also a random door being covered by the Tv. The theres uncountable problems such as no closet doors, a cracked window, no peep hole in the front door, NO shower head, and mold on the toilet. i hurt myself showering because their was no shower head and it was pouring on me like a sink faucet. Their is absolutely no air conditioning. so please bring a fan if staying on a summer day. Recommend if on a tight budget. Lodge pole.

Yelp
We traveled from San Diego and had a nice time. We rented the Blackwood cottage and our friends were next door in Marlette. Here are my pros and cons regarding our stay in the summer months. Pros: A short walk to the lake shore, nice outdoor common area for grilling and hanging with family/friends, close to grocery stores/restaurants/ice cream/Tahoe recreation park. The cottages have a small kitchen and if you need an additional pot or pan, you can get it from the Rustic Cottages lodge. Not sure if this has changed but there was no breakfast in the lodge, we made our own in our cottage. Cons: Carpet is so gross. You should not have carpet in a place that has snow, sand, dirt and a lake. I ran a baby wipe across the floor and it came up brown. The cottage needs a bit of an update. The ceiling fan in the master bedroom (Blackwood) only had one speed which was on high, the ceiling fan in the main room had to be on low or it wobbled, the counter in the kitchen was old, the cold/hot was reversed in both the kitchen and bathrooms, and the TV is old school, no reason not to have a flat screen mounted to the wall. Note to owners: Please remove carpet and put in laminate flooring, easier to keep clean. Carpet is old and really disgusting.

Yelp
Tahoe Vista Lodge & Cabin is part of Rustic Cottage Resort. I added this business listing so it is easier for customer to get driving directions and see photos. All check-in must be done at Rustic Cottage & Resort. We stayed at the Rubicon cabins for 3 nights until Jan 1st 2011. It has kitchen with dinning table, 1 queen bed in separate bedroom and I pull out bed in the living room. The room is very small and there is no shower tub in the bathroom which was indicated in the website so make sure you check carefully before making any reservation. The hot water was not consistent so you get very hot and cold water at time during shower which is my only complain. They have FREE wifi with high speed internet. Even though the cabin looks old, they are well maintain and insulated in winter. They have free breakfast at the lodge and we love the coffee and waffle. The staff Christina who prepared the breakfast is very warm and friendly. How often do you get the chance to make your own waffle and she make sure that it turn out nice. She even bring the waffle to you when it is ready. Updates: We discovered that the Tahoe Vista Lodge & Cabin has plenty of places for kids to sledge. There is a play ground in the middle of the lodge facilities and the backyard of some cabins, there is a downhill slope where kids and adult can sledge. The lodge also has sledge you can borrow to play. Watch out for dog poo when you walk behind those cabins.

Yelp
This place was great! We booked a cabin last minute expecting very little due to the busy weekend, but we got so lucky! What amazing staff and grounds! In the treea but near it all. A short 2 min walk to Lake Tahoe shore. Breakfast was a full breakfast, not measly continental- with big eaters in my family, this is a plud- also they serve till 11am! Thank you, my family and I had a wonderful experience!

Yelp
Booked a 3 night stay in the Glenshire cabin for Aug 17. Place was so run down we left after one night. When I checked out the next morning and informed the old guy (manager/owner) why we were leaving and gave him a list of what was wrong he acted like he could care less. Didn't even offer us a different room or refund (read the fine print on less than generous refund/cancellation policy). Toilet wouldn't even flush 1 sheet of TP, toilet loosely mounted on rotting floor- thought it might fall over, bath fan didn't work, window lock broken, large 1" gap at bottom of front door (mice!), referigerator door would not open all the way and locked up on the uneven floor. Would not stay here again if it was free! Stay away!

Yelp
We were originally booked to stay at the Tahoe Sands Resort down the road, but when we checked in, we checked back out immediately (but that's another review). We were in a bind trying to find another room on a Saturday night in Tahoe during a snow storm. We found this gem and they were incredibly accommodating - even though it was after hours. We stayed in the Bristlecone Suite and it was perfect for us (5 adults). It had two twin beds in the living area and a separate bedroom with a queen sized bed. There's a dining area and fully functioning kitchen with a full sized refrigerator. There were also additional beds that pulled out from under the twin beds. We easily could have slept 3 couples comfortably. The breakfast was in the main cabin and everything was fresh, delicious, and free! The staff were all very friendly. We will definitely be staying here again, and telling everyone we know about this place!!

Yelp
Wow.. just like all the other reviews said. This place is an amazing find. For how affordable it was we were not expecting much, but they are so accommodating it was unreal. Upon arrival to check in they had home made ice tea, lemonade, fresh baked cookies and brownies, candy, coffee, you name it. After checking in they told us to free to take home one of their coffee mugs and some free post cards as well. They have over 300 movies you can "rent" (for free), for all ages. When we decided to go up to get a couple movies, they gave us free popcorn to enjoy during the movie. When I booked they said they had a free breakfast in the morning. I was expecting the usual continental breakfast because of the low price of the cabin, but to our surprise they had huge breakfast sausages, ham, REAL scrambled eggs (not the kind you pour out of a carton), cereal, a waffle machine!, fresh baked cranberry muffins, coffee, OJ, etc. Not only does the staff get 5 stars but cabins do too. They are super quaint and cute. Ours was the studio (Glenshire) with one queen bed, a small kitchen, and a small dining room table. Small, but plenty for what we needed. Also each cabin has a deck and a Weber style charcoal bbq. The lake is just a hop skip and a jump across the street. Also they have a bear! We didn't get to see him, but supposedly every night around 10 he comes around to tries to get into the dumpster. If the dumpster is locked he continues on to the next property over. Hope we get to see the little guy next time! We actually booked this place because we had one of those 2 hour timeshare appointments at Northstar ("hey let me try to sell you something and give you a free stay somewhere") and this was the cheapest spot we could find. Turns out we loved it so much that we skipped the appointment at Northstar so we could enjoy our last day here! We absolutely cannot wait to come back and are so surprised at what we stumbled upon!

Yelp
My boyfriend, 9 year old son and myself stayed at the Tahoe Vista Lodge (sister to Rustic Cottages) for the Memorial Day weekend. We stayed in the Sequoia cabin, this was a lovely cabin! It had everything we needed, two day beds in the front room with a TV connected to cable it also had DVD and VHS! In the same room was the kitchen, kitchen had big refrigerator microwave gas stove/oven and coffee maker with filters and a toaster. Kitchen also had utensils and plenty of dishes to use. The other room had a big bed with a TV also connected to cable with DVD and VHS to use. The bathroom was across from the bedroom, standing shower with great warm/hot water! Tons of towels to use for us three with some to use for more days to come. Out front of the cabin had a very cute swing and four wooden chairs with a picnic table. It was very relaxing weekend at the cabin. At this time you can't use the beach area across from the Tahoe Vista Lodge due to water being too high and covering the beach where we could use. But I still will come back and maybe try a different cabin just to see how the other ones are. But I really do love the Sequoia cabin.

Yelp
The family and I stayed here this past weekend, both Friday and Saturday nights. Several times throughout our stay both my kids and hubby commented on how it's now our "new favorite" Tahoe spot. :) Tahoe Vista Lodge and Rustic Cottages are one in the same, the only difference is the physical address. You can stay at Rustic Cottages, or you can check in at Rustic and stay a mile or so down the main road at the Tahoe Vista Lodges. All the comps and perks are the same at both locations - excellent customer service and super friendly staff, hot breakfast served from 8a - 11a every morning (consisting of wonderful make your own waffles, homemade muffins, OJ, and coffee), nightly homemade brownies and cookies (big hit with the hubby and kids), over 500 movies to choose from to rent for the evening and comp popcorn with each movie order. The list really does go on but if this doesn't grab you I don't know what will. :) The cabins are directly across the main street from the lake, there are communal bbq pits all over the property, and the Lodge Pole, the cabin we stayed in, was incredibly roomy and comfortable. It was a one bedroom space with two day beds (one that had another pull out bed below it) and a fully stocked kitchen. The bathroom was definitely big enough and had a shower with no tub. There was a lovely pool (that we didn't utilize) but it looked very inviting and there were a lot of people in it every day. The Lodges and Cottages are very affordable and also include free wifi and free souvenir mugs. We really enjoyed ourselves, and will definitely be back!

Yelp
My extended family and I usually rent a house and spend a week or two up in Tahoe every summer. We decided not to do that this year due to everyone having to work and not being able to consecutively getting time off. Bummed, my mom sister and I made the last minute arrangements to visit Tahoe for a weekend and we were lucky enough to catch a last minute opening! We stayed at the Rustic Cottages down the road from their sign in offices. It was a little confusing to find since our GPS guided us in a quite round about way, but they drew us a map (they usually drive people down to the location, but there was only one woman at the desk at the time so she did the best she could) and we found our room fairly quickly. They have all the little toiletries you may need, and you're welcome to as much as you need. Also don't forget your Souvenir mug ;) It's a nice little touch. We had wanted to rent a little cabin, but since our reservation was so last minute we settled for the 3 sectioned little like lodge, in which we got the middle room. It was a nice sized room, 2 daybeds (one with a pull out for another bed) in the living room to the right and a fully stocked kitchen to the left with a 4 person dining table. A nice sized bathroom with a stall shower, and a bedroom with a queen sized bed make up the rest of the room, which was plenty of space for us to all be comfortable. We were right across the way from the pool which was nice, and the lodge where they served breakfast each morning was a few steps away. Free breakfast every morning and hidden access to a beautiful sandy beach with sand that's soft like velvet! I loved it! The one complaint I have was the amount of bugs in out room! I know there are going to be lots of bugs because we're in the mountains, but they were creepy all over the bathroom and crawling across the kitchen floor. Nothing harmful, but CREEPY. Overall I was really happy with our stay here. The beds were completely comfortable, the rooms were quiet (a lot quieter than I thought they would be between 2 other rooms). The staff were all very friendly and I would definitely recommend them :)

Yelp
Loved this place! One of the only places in Tahoe that would book me for a one-night only stay (who woulda thought? on a weekday?). The cabins are clean, and charming. The pool is wonderful! There is a semi-private beach just across the street for guests to use. In the morning, they serve a nice breakfast that included cereal, waffles, muffins, juice and coffee - Yum! I really enjoyed taking my niece and nephew here, I think this may become a family tradition! Hooray!

Yelp
Super cute and cozy cabins with a friendly and helpful staff who wants to make you feel right at home. And feeling at home is easy here; they have comfy furnishings, every amenity you could need, and provide a tasty breakfast for free every morning! They really go above and beyond to make this place special. I always greatly appreciate the time I get to spend here.

Yelp
I almost don't want to review it because I am such a fan I don't want it to be booked up solid the next time we go to Tahoe. The rooms are rustic and charming. The amenities alone are well worth the price and the convenient Demi private beach access is my favorite spot in Tahoe.

Yelp
Met another family up there and rented (2) cabins. Overall very happy. Their website was tough to navigate, and the cabin I wanted didnt have a picture. Once I got there all was well. Guy who checked me in was pleasant and made the process quick. Lady who came around to the cabins and ran breakfast at the lodge was awesome. Cabin was small, but clean. Everything they told us was there...was there. Quite nice Beach access was awesome. 5 minute walk to nice sandy beach which wasnt big but suited our needs. Kids could wade out 50 yards and only be in waste deep water. Because of the shallow water, it wasnt cold at all. Crystal clear and warm enough to stay in for hours. Breakfast at the lodge was really neat. Waffles, muffins, coffee and OJ. Muffins coming out of the oven right as we walked in. The lodge was clean and nicely decorated. Overall 100% satisfied, as were the other family we went with. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
My family and I spent a week at one of their lovely cabins directly across from the lake. The view is gorgeous and the staff is excellent. I would return and vacation there again. I mentioned a few items that needed repair and the office was very receptive. The heat was great because it was cold for us Arizonans.

Yelp
WOW! The staff are SO FRIENDLY and so helpful! We came here for my daughter's sixteenth birthday and brought her two best friends, and it was just perfect! The girls had a BLAST and I had a great time too! Our very affordable lodging had plenty of space for all of us, and I just tucked myself into my separate bedroom, with a good book, while they had a movie marathon. Everyone we interacted with was super nice and energetic and a pleasure to deal with. Free movie rentals were awesome! But nothing was so great as the make-your-own WAFFLES in the morning! Perfect delicious fare before heading out into a day of playing in the snow. I would definitely come back here and I have recommended it to everyone I know who is headed to Tahoe. Oh and you don't want to miss the home-baked cookies and brownies at check-in! Yummm!
