"Taiwan's Most Revered Historical Site: The Tainan Confucius Temple This historical site was Taiwan 's first academy, built in 1655, for the purpose of continuing classical Chinese teachings and training civil servants on the island, which was at political odds with Mainland China. The building is prized for it's beauty and obvious age. The grounds are a popular spot for elderly Taiwanese to practice Tai Chi in the early mornings and is a must see for any visitor to the city."
Beautiful gardens within the walls, free entrance. There is TWD40000 fee to go into the temple enclosure and see the many exhibits and halls dedicated to learning, prayers and festivals. Not a vast amount to see but still fascinating and well displayed.

A very well organized shrine/ place of worship for Confucius. The ground is huge and you would only need to pay for the admission fee if you want to see the main temple (the admission fee is extremely cheap/ we could have easily spent more time here but we had more stops to hit up throughout the day.)
I learned a lot about who he was and how the rituals of honoring him are carried out these days. I would say this is one of the must visit places if you’re in Tainan!

The first section is free to enter and is well maintained. To get into the actual temple it's 40ntd. Some really interesting history and you have the chance to write a message in Mandarin with some local helpers.

Beautiful temple, one of the best in Tainan. The outer courtyard is free, but you do have to pay to enter the innermost courtyard. Not sure why that is.

A peaceful and relaxing place to visit. The garden area is lovely. There is a part where you have to pay an admission fee to enter and is worth the visit.
Lots of photo opportunities.

It's a temple with some English descriptions on plaques. You need to be into Confucius and/or read Chinese to appreciate it.
Costs 40 Yuan to enter the central area. Outside in the front yard and adjourning park are free to stroll around in.
