"Talk to the Animals in Taipei The largest zoological park in Asia, the Taipei Zoo is an extremely well curated assemblage of animals from around the world, specializing in Asian wildlife. As with many zoos, the most popular attraction are the giant panda bears, their cute and slow-moving style always a hit with kids. But there’s a lot more to see than just pandas. One of the park’s highlights is the Formosan animal area: a look at animals endemic to Taiwan . The zoo is always busy but is extremely popular on the weekends, so plan a mid-week visit if possible."

Taipei Zoo is huge! Way bigger than I expected! With that, there are so many animals to see and different zones to explore. My friends and I arrived around 2:00 PM, thinking we had enough time, but honestly, 4 hours wasn’t enough to visit everything since the zoo closes at 6:00 PM. If you want to see it all, come earlier! We still had so much fun though. Would like to add that some areas didn’t have visible animals because the animals were just hiding in their enclosures, which I actually appreciated. It shows they’re not forcing animals to be out in the open all the time, which is more humane. Also, the zoo is clean, well-maintained, and the animals looked healthy and well cared for. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Taipei! Especially if you love animals like me!

I loved my visit to the Taipei Zoo! We got to see Capybaras, Pandas, Koalas, a Pangolin, Elephants and so much more! They have a really cool enclosure where you can see birds, fish and even a sloth. All of the plants at the Zoo make every step gorgeous. It was easy to find restrooms and snacks. The exhibits all looked great and they have lots of signs and information about how they take care of the animals. We found everything had an English translation so it was easy to get around and learn more about the animals and exhibits. This is a beautiful Zoo and I hope to come back some day.

Very affordable tickets and short drive from city centre. Can be very hot so bring an umbrella. It's a huge park and likely you won't be able to finish in a day so recommend to come earlier if you can and take the zoo tram up! Some animals were not around in their enclosures.. wonder if it's because they were too hot.. or they ran away!! Lots of vending machines, seating and shelters. Good for people for all ages.

Google
Huge zoo with many different animals. The koalas are adorable, especially with their different sleeping positions. The pandas are cute and chubby as well. The walkways are wide and could accommodate many people—very spacious. It was quite cool inside despite the summer heat due to the mist that sprays every now and then. There’s a few food options near the entrance, and lots of vending machines scattered throughout the zoo. It’s expected that there would be a lot of walking, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. If not, there’s also a shuttle. The zoo itself is clean and well maintained, having no bad odor. I would like to go back here sometime since we couldn’t find the capybaras.

Taipei Zoo is an impressive and expansive attraction that offers something for everyone. During my recent visit with my son, we spent a full six hours exploring, and we still didn’t get to see everything! The zoo is a home to a wide variety of animals, from pandas and elephants to koalas and penguins. One of the highlights was the Dinosaurs Exhibition, which was both educational and entertaining—my son loved it! The insectarium was another fascinating section, showcasing unique bugs and butterflies. Despite the long hours we spent there, we couldn’t cover every exhibit, which just means we’ll have to visit again. The zoo is well-maintained, with plenty of shaded areas and resting spots, making it comfortable even on a warm day. The Taipei Zoo is a must-visit for families and animal lovers. Plan for a full day, wear comfortable shoes, and enjoy a fantastic adventure! Would definitely return to see the rest!

Visited the Taipei zoo with my children and they had a good time visiting different animal habitats. We took metro to reach there, the travel was easy, affordable and comfortable. However, our expectations were not meet perhaps we were expecting more animals. Earlier we had visited Singapore Zoo, bird park and river safari and experienced animals from very close. In Taipei zoo some animal shelters were vacant and no animals were visible like kangaroos. My kids were keen to see kangaroos but the kangaroo shelter doesn’t have any. In all of you are visiting first Asian zoo than it can amaze you.

Google
Probably the most affordable zoo entry we’ve ever come across. We visited on Children’s Day, so the crowd was intense, but we still managed to get in within 10 minutes. The zoo is massive — it’s unlikely you’ll cover the entire place in a single day, especially with the crowd and weather. We appreciated how the zoo is thoughtfully categorised into different themes, making the experience more engaging. Conveniently, there’s a McDonald’s and several street vendors nearby, so food isn’t a concern. We rented a stroller too, the best decision ever. I believe it’s 100NTD with a 1000NTD cash deposit. Overall, it was an enjoyable visit, though the heavy crowd meant certain enclosures had waiting times of up to 30 minutes. Still, it’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Google
Had an exhausting but fun trip here. We didn’t manage to explore everything as it’s our last stop to our itinerary (and our feet just can’t walk anymore) 🥲 I love how big their enclosure is, well kept in my opinion. Some animals are just too tired to show off 😅 (very okay with that as long as they are well taken care of). Will definitely come back here!

Yelp
This is a must visit if you're in Taiwan. If you're going during the summer, just know that the animals may be in their enclosure because it is so hot! We didn't get to see some of the animals, and were looking forward to the pandas. However, there is so much for you to look at. Get ready to get those steps in. There was a bus or something but we did not figure that out lol My favorite was the capybara cafe area. The drinks there are SO GOOD - especially the sparking soda drinks. They are so refreshing in the heat. You can also take a quick break there. The animals have plenty of space in their enclosures and spaces. The landscape is absolutely beautiful. I loved it here.

Yelp
This zoo is excellent for the price and location to Taipei. Just a heads up, this place is vast and the exhibits are spread out unlike the San Diego Zoo. We came on a normal weekday morning in December and it was empty except for a few school trips. The animals look well taken care of and the surrounds are nice and clean. You can easily spend a few hours here if you want. Don't miss out on the gondolas too.

Yelp
Amazing zoo, very organized. The panda exhibit and the penguin exhibits have nice air conditioning. We really enjoyed the bird world. There is a tram you can take for 5 cents. The entrance is only $3 for the zoo which is amazing, it's the best value. The zoo is huge. It's easy to get to on the MRT. Happy Yelping!

Yelp
This is one of the biggest zoos I have been to. I'm not a fan of zoos but my sister wanted to visit during our Taiwan trip. There is an admission fee. They have a panda exhibit, penguin exhibit and so much more. Gift shops and food. Gift shops had a lot of cute items. Good selections on food. There were couple areas where the smell wasn't too pleasant. Masks will kinda help with that lol. Since this zoo is huge, prepare to walk a lot!

Yelp
Largest zoo in Asia and probably one of the best zoos I've been to (comparable to San Diego Zoo IMO). Lots of clean restrooms, water refill stations, affordable food stalls and baby changing/nursing areas throughout the museum. If you are combining this with the Maokong Gondola, you'll get a $20 off when using the Easy card during weekdays and recommend entering the zoo at the South Station. There will be an added $5 to take the shuttle to Bird Station and this is a good starting point as you'll see the zoo going downhill. Navigating the zoo is relatively straightforward and well thought out without any unnecessary backpedaling. Favorite areas were the Aviary, hippopotamus (one was so close that we could see all the pores on the snout), koalas. There's also a panda exhibit, with two giant pandas on display. Can easily spend 3-6 hours here depending on your pace. Easy MRT or bus ride from the city.

Yelp
Wow. I was expecting a relatively small zoo since Taiwan is small - but I was so wrong! This is one of the biggest, and may be the best zoo I've ever been to. My previous favorite was the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington, DC. We bought our tickets on Klook and they were about $3USD which is crazy, and my sister rented a stroller for I think about the same, but definitely les than $5. The lunch options were also affordable, and pretty decent. It's easily accessible via MRT as well. The panda house was great too, and we were very lucky the panda was very active on the day of our visit. We had a great time and would highly recommend this zoo to all

Yelp
It looked very popular spot for kids and school trips. I had multiple school trips kids and caught the squall at same time which means not much room to avoid heavy rain. Chaotic! LOL The gardens are well maintained, and it's surrounded with a mountain area. It's nice to chill after you get tired of city noise. My main purpose to be here was to see my favorite animal, panda. They have two in separate rooms. If you are lucky, you will see awake panda! They have a gift shop at upstairs.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow. Probably the best zoo I've been to so far. Better than SD zoos and the Seattle zoo. This place has it all - pandas ( no more in the US) (a whole panda building with a cafe and a gift shop on the top floor), animals that go right up to your face in the dome, ice cream, coffee and drink vending machines, and lots of space to explore. Kids under 6 are free and it's only $1-2 usd to get in for kids over 6 and adults. We got to take lots of great pictures of monkeys and butterflies (butterfly sanctuary) and there was even a Mos Burger and McDs. Of course they were way too crowded by the time lunch rolled around. They even had a show going on right by the entrance for kids to be entertained.

Yelp
PANDAS!!! Need I say more? If you have a chance to stop by Taipei Zoo, I highly recommend a visit. The Taipei Zoo is massive and it took me about 6 hours to walk through most of the exhibits.

Yelp
Taipei Zoo was the highlight of our Taiwan trip. Not only does this zoo offer vast range of animals from every region of the world but it's done in an incredibly affordable, family friendly matter. There is a 7 Eleven inside as well as lockers so you don't have to carry all your belongings. Start your day with a snack and heck, grab a drink because you'll be here for at least 3-4 hours. The zoo is maintained very well. The exhibits are clean and seem to be very fitting for the animals. Theres bathrooms, water fill up stations, vending machines, gift shops, and food vendors located throughout the park. For $2 for general entry, you really can't find a better deal for a zoo. You can purchase your ticket at the front where they have a kiosk and a worker to help you out. The food and souvenirs are not excessively expensive inside the park either which makes the experience all a bit more enjoyable. The highlights for us were the koalas, monkeys, two toeyed sloths, lemurs, and malayan tapirs! However the large predators were very inactive during our visit (bears, rhinos, and tigers) which was a bit disappointing. Taipei Zoo is by far the best zoo I have been to yet. It was such a great learning experience and I was able to see so many unusual animals up close.

Yelp
This zoo is huge! We took the gondola to the top of the zoo and then walked down. Much easier than trying to walk up this very sloped area. Of course our favorite was the pandas, and the red pandas. You can use an easy pass to pay for this and the price is very modest. We definitely got over 15k steps walking around this very large zoo.
google avatar

Connie W.

Yelp
Only $2, so cheap, and can use EasyCard (transportation) for payment. Also, it is close to gondola to go up to Maokong; can easily fit both activities into same day. The special treat at this zoo is their pandas.

Yelp
First time here and I was impressed. I told my wife we did not need strollers because I thought the zoo was going to be small but I was completely wrong. We were there for almost 3 hours and I felt that we barely did half the zoo. Our favorites were the penguin and the panda.

Yelp
The Taipei zoo is a cute experience to visit if you have time and are in the area! I'm not really a zoo person, and I've been to many across the world, and the Taipei zoo was solid. We went on a Tuesday mid morning which meant many many different school groups were there on field trips, so beware as this can be a bit loud and crowded. Once in the zoo, one of the best exhibits was the giant pandas. They were awake and munching away on bamboo, very cute. Plus this area is air conditioned, which is very nice on warm and humid days! The rest of the zoo was standard and fun to explore, and we spent several hours there! While there are ample food locations, due to how crowded it was we opted not to eat in the zoo due to wait times
google avatar

Yelp
This is such an amazing zoo and so affordable! Even though we didn't spend that much time there, we saw a lot of exotic animals like the panda, camel, giraffe, elephants, bears and more. There are also 7-11, Mos Burger, McDonalds, and other awesome food spots inside as well. It's conveniently located near the MRT station and a wonderful outing. Highly recommend and wish more zoos in the states were like this.

Yelp
This is one of the few zoos in the world that houses pandas, so we definitely had to come and visit during our Taiwan trip! The zoo is pretty large - luckily there is a tram you can take up and down the main path (which we discovered WAY TOO LATE because we've already walked most of the uphill path LOL). It also takes you to the Maokong gondola station. The zoo has all the standard animals & our kids had a great time. For just 60 NT, this is one of the cheapest/best attractions you can find in Taiwan where you can spend the whole day!

Annie 2.

Yelp
A lot of animals here. We saw two panda here. The zoo also offers small train $NT5 ($0) to drive around the zoo. The zoo has a lot of turtles here, and Rino, and giraffes, and Kingkong, and gorillas, and chimpanzees, and penguins, red pandas, horses, camels, flamingos, etc. The zoo is too big to walk around everywhere. The price is $NT100 ($3), 2 person one ticket for promotion for that day. unbeatable.

Yelp
One of my favorite zoos ever! It's huge and has SO many exhibits, you could easily spend a whole day here just wandering around. The habitats built for the animals are also all very immersive and beautiful, with lots of space for the animals to move around. The zoo recently unveiled a new egg-shaped immersion dome, which houses a variety of smaller exhibits for smaller animals, as well as a bunch of really tiny monkeys and a sloth who are allowed to range freely inside! My tip is to go a couple minutes before the zoo closes, as the line to enter is mostly gone by then and it's also feeding time for the sloth and the monkeys, so you can watch the keeper feed them (it's pretty funny, the keeper has to stay, hand-feeding the sloth and guarding the sloth's food so that the monkeys don't steal it)! Note: the panda exhibit is SUPER crowded always. You don't get to spend much time looking at them if they're in their indoors habitat, as you must line up to see them and the guides are constantly ushering people along. The line itself moves pretty fast though (since you're not allowed to stop and look).

Yelp
Review #062 - 2019 My daughter needed to burn some energy before heading back to our hotel so I asked our taxi driver to drop us off here instead of going back to our hotel. Sadly, after spending only about half an hour here, it started raining so we left. Although, the few things that we walked pass weren't anywhere to be found. The only things that we actually saw were the flamingoes, macaques, praying mantis and butterflies. The elevator inside the insect observatory was broken so we couldn't take my daughter's stroller inside. I was told that this is the biggest zoo in Asia, but from what we came across, it sure didn't seem like it. Although, I guess I can't complain too much since it's only NT$60 for adults entry fee & kids under 6 are free of charge. It's super conveniently located from the MRT, so that is a very big plus.

Yelp
The Giant Panda House and the elephants were my all-time favorite part of visiting Taipei Zoo (Okay, I just had to get that excitement out!)!! Yes, Yelpers, Taipei zoo is one of the best zoos that I have experienced offering a large collection of animals, plants, and birds. Surprisingly, it was a very cheap entrance fee costing $60 NTD which is no more than $2 USD. Let me first start this review by stating that Taipei zoo is the largest in Asia. This place is very accessible via metro, also note that you can use your Easycard to pay for your entrance fee to the zoo; very convenient! This zoo was intended to be a private zoological garden but that is not the case; it now houses pandas, koala, and an Asian tropical rainforest! What more could we ask for?! All the animals that you can imagine are at this zoo! I was able to see animals that I never heard of before, like the Indian and African elephants; adorable! Plan to spend the full day here. It's a nice layout of the zoo that requires tons of walking up and down small hills so be prepared! It starts at the bottom of a slope and climbs up to the top. I would recommend to take the train to the top of the zoo and walk down until you arrive back to the entrance. There is so much to see and many of the animals are usually up and active during the morning and afternoon; once they have received their meal...forget it! They are ready for a nap after that, HA! In the afternoon, make sure to take the air gondola to Maokong and check it out for a bit, if you have time visit the Sanxuan Temple. I truly enjoyed the gondola as it gave me a nice bird's eye view of the hills towards the south of Taipei. Also, I got the chance to pass over the lush tea plantations! It was just beautiful! The zoo has many different areas that offer air-conditioned rooms, which is a big plus as it can be HOT in Taipei. If I had to give a recommendation, it would be to have some interactive shows with the animals that were the only thing I believe was lacking. I would have loved to see staff interacting with the elephants or having visitors feed the animals. Animal lovers! This is animal paradise, you will witness the best animals here at this zoo. Make sure you give yourself time to explore what this zoo has to offer. You have been forewarned! This place is perfect for young kids. I truly enjoyed myself and felt like a big kid all over again!

Yelp
This city zoo is one of the biggest zoo in Taiwan. The food for the animals are organic grown in the zoo, which they use animals wastes as natural nutrients for the food plants and the trees in the zoo. So they make sure there's no chemicals or harmful agents in the soil or plants. The goal is using the nature cycles to provide both animals and plants most organic living. This zoo is huge. Even only walk through the zoo(not making any stop) it still takes one almost whole day. I would recommend the first time goers to go there early in the morning and take the zoo bus to go to the top of the zoo mountain then walk downhill.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun little zoo. It's nothing compared to the Bronx Zoo or even Central Park zoo. Taipei Zoo just felt a little underwhelming with it's lackluster appearance. Nothing really popped. The reptile exhibit was extremely boring. Crowds of people blocking each other's view. The areas that do have food suck. Pricey and the food looks like economy class airplane food. Some positive notes about Taipei Zoo. It's a safe place to walk and stretch your legs. Good luck finding a area big enough for you to walk without risking your life (all of you damn motorist in Taiwan). The zoo itself just didn't feel much like a zoo. The lack of tall trees, visually you didn't feel like you were in a zoo at times. You didn't feel like were stepping into nature when there was so much concrete everywhere. Verdict - avoid every bootleg vendor outside of the zoo trying to sell your kid gimmicky souvenirs. Head to the one dude who's selling ice cream burritos with shaved peanut. That's the only legit vendor there.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS ZOO!!!! Pandas, and Tigers, and Penguins. Oh, My! the best thing about this zoo is the price for sure. you can't beat the price. $60nt (~$2usd) for a full price adult ticket. 1/2 price $30nt (~$1usd) so it's super worth it. I still have my student discount from the classes that I took this year so I've been taking advantage of the discounted rate. you also don't have to wait in line to buy a ticket if you have enough money on your easycard. just swipe through and you're good to go. Also, if you want to pay for more than one person with one easycard, just let the attendant know and they'll charge your for the appropriate amount when you tap your easy card. This zoo is also super accessible. it's the terminal station on the brown wenhu line. so you don't have to worry about missing the stop. plus there are a lot of buses that pass through as well. did you know that there are TWO ENTRANCES to the zoo? the main entrance is at the front where all the buses and mrt station is. but there's a back entrance that you can reach via the maokong gondola. alternatively, if you make your way through the zoo, you can also take the zoo shuttle to the maokong gondola station and exit the zoo here to ride the gondola to the tea village, temple, or back to the mrt station. I mentioned that the zoo has a shuttle bus which is super convenient. the shuttle bus is $5nt and there are 3 stops. the main entrance, the bird village, and the maokong gondola station. My favorite way to navigate the zoo is from the back to the front. this is for a couple reasons. the zoo is located on an upward sloping hill (mountain). so if you go through the main entrance you're making a slow and steady climb up through the zoo. I've done this a few times with younger kids and they've gotten too tired halfway through and we end up leaving early. but, if you take the shuttle bus from the main entrance to the bird village stop, you can navigate your way back to the main entrance mostly walking downhill. Also, you're more likely to avoid crowds. a lot of people enter through the front and just start meandering through the zoo in a similar path....which means you're basically one of the mob. if you cut through to the back via shuttle. a lot of people don't make it all the way up if they're walking and there's less people in those areas. the zoo is sectioned and organized into different regions. there's the bird village, which is - you guessed it - all birds. then there's the penguin house and other temperate zone animals. african animals, jungle animals, koala house, panda house (huge favorite - lots of people and on the weekends when it gets super crowded they pass out tickets for certain times and if you get there too late, and they're out of tickets, too bad, so sad), children's area, and my favorite is the taiwan native animals section. you get to see all the animals that are found in taiwan including the taiwan black bear (taiwan's mascot) and the tapir. bonus tip: go to the zoo when they first open. yes, obvious reason is to avoid crowds and lines...but also, this is when the animals are getting their breakfast and waking up....so they're much more active!! going around lunch/early afternoon means that animals are lazy and food coma-ing

Yelp
P R I C E I'm boggled by anyone who complains about going to the Taipei zoo! [+1] It's $2 USD! Where can you find this deal anywhere else and be entertained by all the various animals in this beautiful park? A N I M A L S [+1] They had elephants, antelopes, horses, tigers, hyenas, penguins, raccoons, birds, snakes, koalas, camels, bears, giraffes, PANDAS, ANNNNNND RED PANDAS! They were so cute! [-1] Only downside was that they closed the first red panda exhibit at 4pm so I was panicking that I wouldn't get to see one. [+1] Luckily there was another exhibit, but I was definitely upset they had taken some animals out before the closing time! Ah! [+1] There is a McDonald's just right inside the zoo as you make your way in, so it was very convenient. [+1] Oh! You can also get in by paying with your EasyCard! So easy!

Yelp
This is very likely my favorite zoo that I have visited. It's located at the terminal station of the Brown MRT line. The entry price is 60 NT which you can pay via cash or with your MRT card (super convenient!). Most zoos that I have visited in the United States have a $15+ entrance fee, so I was super excited about the 60 NT entrance fee and actually came to this zoo on more than one occasion during my visit to Taipei just to check out the animals one more time :) The exhibits here are really well done. In general, I feel like the animals have lots of space. The organization is also done really well, and I especially liked the Asian and Formosan exhibits. When I was there, the Formosan monkeys and pandas were especially active and they were both really fun to watch. There is a lot of walking involved if you are going to visit this zoo, however. The entire area of the zoo is huge! At the end of the zoo (near the Arctic exhibit) is one station to get on the Maokong gondolas. It's easy to combine a morning zoo trip with an afternoon Maokong gondola trip.

Yelp
TL:DR - fun and cheap way to fill out an afternoon. Minus stars for horrible planning of the zoo layout and numerous construction sites causing an obscene amount of backtracking needed to see the whole zoo. I think I'm very spoiled coming from St. Louis which I've been told has one of the best zoo's in the US/World and is free. Another disclaimer, I've never been to any other zoo in Asia, so not sure how this compares, but a lot of this stuff is in comparison to the STL Zoo. First off, the admission price is 60NT, which is ridiculously cheap. Regarding the animals, the exhibits and buildings seem rather bare, just a tank and an animal. The penguin house was particularly disappointing compared to other zoos where penguins have a huge enclosure whereas the Taipei zoo is a small thing of water and random rocks and a painted blue wall. The one cool thing about this place, however, is the number of animals that aren't as prevalent in US zoo's, like pandas, red pandas, pangolins, etc. This particular trip (Dec 2017) there was so much construction. It seems like every single building and many of the outdoor exhibits were under construction, meaning that the loop of exhibits was cut in half, so if you wanted to see all the animals in the loop, you'd have to halfway up one side of the circle, go all the way back and go up the other half of the circle. This happened numerous times. Lastly, my biggest gripe about the place is that there seems to have been zero planning into the layout of the entire zoo. Many of the zoos I've been to tend to have a circle layout so you can start on one end and go through the whole zoo and end up back at the entrance. This zoo seems to be shaped more like a tree which each branch having a few circles. This means that you'll have a lot of back tracking, and by the time your at the end of the tree, your legs are super tired and you have to walk the entire length of the zoo back to the front entrance/exit. Overall, it's a cheap way to fill your day, but the thought put into planning out the zoo itself is beyond disappointing.

Yelp
$2 USD admission??? Wow! Unbeatable!!! I haven't been to the zoo in a while so I made a day trip to Taipei Zoo and the Maokong Gondola. The zoo is extremely spacious and it's super family friendly. There were so many visitors with their kids. I'm surprised that some of the animals are not fully caged. There is a barricade for us to not get too close to the animals but they were free to move around in their enclosure. Like the little monkeys!!! I thought it was sad to see that the elephant had its back on the visitors and would not turn around at all and some of the animals were all the way in the back of their cage like the tiger and other animals. Must be tired of being a spectacle :( It was a really hot day and there were a lot of places to sit and take a break.

Yelp
GOOD: - Has a good variety of animals and birds. Also has two Pandas, which is always a plus. - Very affordable. Only $2 USD per adult - Easy to get to via MRT - Has two Gondola stations which can take you up to Maokong - Offers stroller rentals so you don't need to bring your own BAD: - The zoo is quite large so be prepared for lots of walking - Not a lot of shaded areas so it could be really rough in hot weather

Yelp
There's too much to fit in a review, so just let me state that this place is worth it. Make sure to get here at opening or else you'll miss out on something because this place is massive. We didnt know and arrived close to lunch time. This place was so great we came again the next day. The mrt stops right around the corner and we enjoyed the nice view during the ride. One of our favorite spots was the butterfly pavilion. The place is teeming with butterflies of all varieties. If you like elephants, you can get really great clear views of them!

Yelp
The Taipei Zoo is a great family attraction since the zoo is incredibly large and affordable given that the admission fee is roughly $2 CAD. There's significantly more animals to see in comparison to other zoos (ex. Toronto Zoo which is about $40). The zoo gets really busy during the weekends so plan for a weekday visit if possible. Food and drinks here are very affordable and there is little to none markups on food.

Amazing Zoo for an amazing price. Back in California - Bay Area, the average zoo cost per adult is ~$18usd, parking ~$12usd, food ~$20usd = ~$50usd per person which means $1500nt We rode the MRT(subway) for $24ntd, zoo entrance fee was only $60ntd!! That's $2 usd .... That itself was mind blowing for us. Total adult cost with food was roughly $150ntd ($5usd) per adult. I can and will take my 2 year old son here as much as possible--- this is what a government funded zoo should be like in California. The quality of the zoo was great and the variety of animals/exhibits were plentiful. I went to other zoos back in the states paying 1000x the price and less quality. The Taiwan zoo animals had a healthily living environment -- each had a back story of being rescued or donated. Highly recommended

Yelp
We came on a hot day (as expected in July) and a lot fo the animals were hanging out in the shade. The zoo is pretty large but if you only go to smaller area of Taiwan specific animals, you will miss most of the zoo. After a while we didn't have the energy or desire to continue as it was very hot. The entrance fee is pretty cheap (60 NTD - less than $2 USD) and half price for kids. Worth a trip to check out the animals and you can leave the zoo at 2 different points to take the gondola to Maokong. There is also a train ride around the zoo that we didn't try.

Yelp
In order to truly experience Taiwan, you definitely must make a stop to the Taipei Zoo. Like most other attractions and eateries in Taiwan, Taipei Zoo is accessible through the MRT. Price is relatively cheap, but what's even better is that the price to get into the zoo is much cheaper than what you'd pay in California. Since I went to the zoo directly from the gondolas, the price included the ride to the zoo and the entrance fee. And you're able to pay using your EasyCard, which is another plus! Highly recommend picking a day when it is not raining to go to the zoo. I've been here when it's sunny and I've been here when it was really wet and rainy, and it's obviously a much better experience when the sun is shining on you. Of course the rain doesn't really bother the animals, but you'll be annoyed from opening and closing your umbrellas, trying to wipe the raindrops off of your phone - just not as pleasant of an experience. This zoo is fairly big with a ton of animals to see. There's different sections of the zoo with animals falling under a specific category - Bird's World, Australian Animal Area, Asian Tropical Rainforest Area, Desert Animal, African Animal, Temperate Zone Animal, Formosan Animal, Children's Zoo, and of course - the popular Panda House. If you love animals, or just like getting your money's worth and seeing everything there is to see, give yourself enough time to wander around the whole zoo. I would say dedicate a little more than half a day at the zoo. If you're with children, a whole day might be better to give you enough time to see everything. From monkeys, to giraffes, to kangaroos, there are a ton of animals to see. And because the Panda House is such a big attraction, they hand out specified time tickets when you enter the zoo, giving you your time for when you can visit the Panda House. When I went, it was rainy and pretty empty so the workers were not strict on taking tickets. I guess the line can get incredibly long, which is why there are ramps and walkways until you get to the glass panel and see into the panda's home. And basically ooh and ahh over the panda eating and eating and ... eating. Definitely makes a good photo opportunity as all it does is sit there and let you take pictures of him. We were lucky and caught the other panda playing around outside. Super cute! And there's a restaurant area and gift shop inside the Panda House if you want to eat or buy any souvenirs. (The souvenirs here are pretty cheap compared to ones you'd find at the LA or San Diego Zoo!) Lots of vending machines selling drinks around the park as well as several food areas. tl;dr - Pretty typical zoo as far as animals go, but it was definitely interesting to visit. Entry fee is cheap and there are a ton of animals and things to look at. I would highly recommend coming - especially if you have kids!

Yelp
Note that the Gondola is closed during Mondays for regular maintenance. There is a Mcdonalds near the entrance gate. Be welcomed by the tropical oasis of Flamingo. There are gift shops around the park. Entrance is charged with NTD 60 fee for adults. There is a dedicated train station making it reachable from the city.

Yelp
This is a popular tourist and local attraction in Taipei, located on the fringe of the city in Muza. It's probably the most well known aspect of what's otherwise a sleepy, affluent suburb of the city. The most popular main attraction here is the panda exhibit. Lots of people come here for that so be prepared to expect crowds. Otherwise, it's pretty standard when it comes to other features and the overall size of the place is actually quite big, so expect to walk a lot. What's good is that the Muza MRT stops right in front of the zoo, and it's the first/last stop of the line. What's not good is that since Taipei is generally a very hot place for most of the year (or wet) - you should definitely expect weather to play a big part in your overall experience. I would say this isn't a "must see" tourist attraction, but if you have time to spare, it's worth checking out especially if you can also visit Maokong's tea farms on the same day (via the Maokong Gondola next door). Muza itself is about as exciting as a cardboard box, but this place is still fun for families, locals and tourists with extra time alike.

Yelp
A must visit while in Taipei!! This wasn't originally listed in my itinerary but as I saw that I was only a few subway stops away, I thought why not?!! Entrance fee is only $60 NTD which is roughly $1.94 USD!!! There are lots to do here if you have little ones. My main attraction was to see their pandas! In America, there's only one place to see them at San Diego Zoo so this was a real treat.

Yelp
(27/12/2015) Entrance fee tw$60! (US $2 bucks only)! There are many animals in there! From African, temperate, Cold region! They have the cutest and fluffiest animals in there too! Right next to the Taipei Zoo MTR station, easy to locate!!!! There is small food and snack stalls in there, one 7/11, Macdonalds, a Café/restaurant right above the panda exhibition. The zoo is really big, lots of walking! Not too much shelter area for rain cover.

Yelp
It seems like a lot of the locals here on Yelp knock this place pretty hard but where else can you get into a zoo and spend an entire day or afternoon for only $60 NTD ($2 USD)?! Take the MRT here and hop off the exit for the Taipei Zoo. I personally recommend coming in the early afternoon and spending your afternoon here until closing. Afterwards head over to the Maokong Gondola which is walking distance. This way you get to knockout two tourist attractions at once. This zoo is great for families, dates or simply sightseeing. This has not only been one of my favorite places to come as a kid but my girlfriend and I both enjoy coming here and seeing all the animals here. The admission fee is so minimal it's a no brainer coming here. If you can, plan your trip on a weekday. Weekends get pretty crowded with families and kids running around everywhere. Usually on a weekday visit you'll have the park almost to yourself. There is a McDonalds on premises and also a convenient store. Prices are super reasonable as well. Tons of exhibits to see. The most popular one here is definitely the Panda exhibit.

Yelp
The zoo was clean. The animals also are obviously well taken off. Too bad I arrived there at 3 in the afternoon. Some of the animals were sleeping.

Yelp
One of the best I've been to since it's surrounded by greenery with a sense of nature rather than cages and concrete. You can tell the zoo is well planned, with considerable shading and seating for people to rest. The admission fee is reasonable, with signs/map in English for non-Chinese customers. There are a lot of animals to learn about, and I got excited to see the panda and camels!

Yelp
(Disclaimer: Review based on visit to Taipei in November 2013.) The Taipei Zoo is one of the biggest values in Taipei. Admission to Taipei Zoo is just NT$60 which is about $2 US. You will spend a lot more to visit zoos in the US and probably see fewer attractions than what you would find here. You could easily spend a half day touring the grounds here. It has many familiar animals to me like elephants, giraffes and zebras. But there are also a lot of Asian animal species like the crane and Malayan sun bear that I have never seen in person. The attractions are quite comprehensive. They have a bird sanctuary and a reptile section as well at the far end of the zoo. The biggest attraction here is their panda exhibit. Yes, only $2 to see some pandas! If you are going to the zoo, I would combine that with visiting the nearby Maokong Gondola. Do both attractions all at one day since it is in close proximity. Wouldn't make sense to do them on separate days since they are quite a bit of distance outside the main part of Taipei. If you are looking for a family friendly attraction that is light on the wallet, the Taipei Zoo is for you.

Yelp
Throw zoo is sooooooo big! I come from New York so I'm used to seeing things like the Bronx zoo or the Central Park zoo, but Taipei zoo was completely different in my opinion! Maybe it's because of where it was located, the zoo seemed to have a more nature looking vibe. The zoo was really huge and it has sooooo many interesting and beautiful animals who do not look like they are on the verge of dying. I went on a rainy day, the animals were still out and about playing with each other etc. The giant panda was super adorable! One of my favorite moments was when one of the monkeys grabbed another monkey closed to him/her and gave him/her a very proper loving hug before they started fighting again. It was super duper cute. I think it was totally worth the trip. I also went really early in the morning so there were like maybe 2-3 other people in the zoo :)

Yelp
Something to do with the kids.... lots of walking and really really hot. We didn't get up early enough to make it to the gondolas where we would be baked inside of them and the line was pretty long for the 5 taiwan dollar train, so we skipped that too. Unfortunately the Pandas were not in the mood and stayed laying/sleeping. I was hoping there would be some place to use your credit card, but none :( ... you can use your metropass, but still need cash to top that up. So that meant no souvenirs and snacks for us, lol.

Yelp
I was impressed with the zoo. It is very easy to get to being the last stop on the metro but it is out there a bit. Easy to find on the map since it is called the Taipei Zoo station. The zoo is a little hilly and pretty long. Unlike a lot of zoo's where you can walk around in a circular fashion, the Taipei zoo is set up in a linear fashion where you walk end to end and then back. From the entrance to back entrance, it is almost a mile one way. Zoo is clean, plenty of places to get snacks, and plenty of bathrooms. There is a tram that cost extra and you pay per segment so make sure it is going in the right direction before getting on. If you have the time, great place to relax, walk, and spend time with kids and the family.

Yelp
It's an okay activity to do with friends. The zoo is very big and a lot of walking required, unless you take the shuttle bus to the top and start from there then walk towards the bottom through the zoo. But it is hot and feels like you're on a hike. The zoo isn't that impressive as some animals we're missing and about 1/3 we're just sleeping and difficult to locate. I come from California and so I've experienced several large zoos. They have snack shops in several locations and restrooms are available. Sometimes the directions are not very clear so be careful you don't miss out on anything. Overall, a great place to hang with friends, hike, and enjoy animals in the Taiwan hot and humid weather.

Yelp
Taipei Zoo was one of my favorite attractions in Taipei when I visited last month. Given the admission cost of 60 NT the zoo was an absolute bargain. The layout of the zoo is actually quite large so I would plan some extra time to visit the zoo, in the end I only got to see maybe 50-75% of the zoo and wish I got to see more. I would say the biggest attraction had to be the Panda House which they give you a specific time to visit. It was not too busy when we went early in the morning so they let us in before the specified time. There are plenty of food outlets and drink machines here so no problems at all if you want to take a break. I also saw a convenience store near the red pandas. As the zoo involved a lot of walking around it was nice to sit down every now and then. There was so much to see and do at the Taipei Zoo which really made it a worthwhile trip. I highly recommend taking the gondola at least back to the train station as you do get some very nice views of the surrounding area. We considered stopping in Maokong for a little bit but after all the walking I was done for!

Yelp
The Taipei Zoo is really big but I feel that the amount of space that the zoo has, they should utilize the space for the animals to its fullest potential. Animals looked depressed and overall unhealthy. The cages were way too small and the animals looked trapped especially for the birds. Besides that, overall it was good. For those who don't want to walk to the other part of the zoo (since it's so big), they had a train that brings you to the other section of the zoo. I'd say, pick a day where it's not as hot because walking around in the zoo at 30 degrees is deadly.

Yelp
This zoo is pretty darn big. We only stayed there for a few hours but got to see the pandas, reptile exhibit and koalas and penguins. You kind of have to see the reptiles before getting to the penguins - at least that's how it was for us. Kind of annoying but my daughter enjoyed going through it so it was all good. There's a McDonald's there which saved us because our kiddo didn't want to have anything to do with Chinese food on this trip except for white rice and noodles which I was tired of giving her. Chicken nuggets is a protein, right?

Yelp
The Taipei Zoo is a great place to visit whether you have kids or not! From anywhere in Taipei, the MRT will take you within a few minutes (walking distance) of the main entrance. Once inside, the park is clean and has plenty of exhibits to keep you occupied for half a day or so. There is also plenty of food in the park to keep you fed while exploring! Highly recommended if you enjoy walking around and checking out various animals and exhibits!
