I'm gonna say this place has the best tomato cheese ramen I've ever had. It always has such a unique taste, and I really love it every time I get to try it. I'm always amazed by how they make it taste so good. Also, Luke is super friendly. I’ve had great conversations with him every time I came. He always asks for your feedbacks and what to add to make it more flavorful. Taishoken will always be the best ramen place in my heart!!

Google
I ordered the Tsukemen Original and it was absolutely fantastic — rich, flavorful broth and perfectly chewy noodles. Easily one of the best tsukemen experiences I've had! Big thanks to the amazing staff — Luke and Mina were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
This was the best Ramen I’ve had in my life. Everything tasted so flavourful and was cooked perfectly. We got the Okonomi Gyoza as a starter, the Kara Miso Tonkotsu and the Miso Tonkotsu. Portion sizes were generous and price was very fair. The service was fantastic. Very quick and so friendly! Best stop for lunch :)

Google
One of the best ramen spots in Vancouver! Taishoken Ramen delivers on all fronts — rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and generous portions. I ordered the miso tonkatsu and it was phenomenal — the broth was deep and savory without being too salty, and the noodles had that perfect chewy bite. The pork chashu was melt-in-your-mouth tender and full of flavor. The service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere had a great buzz without feeling too crowded. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they’re serving. Definitely a must-visit for any ramen lover in the city. I’ll be coming back for sure.

A guy from my local Japanese grocery store actually recommended this place to me. I had high expectations coming in. I was satisfied with my meal but just had higher expectations I guess. It was good and I enjoyed it but actually prefer Ramen Danbo if I’m being very honest. Nevertheless, good serving sizes, good taste, and excellent service. I really enjoyed the takoyaki appetizer I got as well :) Ambiance was okay — cute but felt a bit stiff if that makes sense? Would go back again :)

Amazing restaurant owner, super friendly and customer oriented person. He tries and talks to every customer to build a bond with them. The famous dip ramen is also the shining feature of Luke’s restaurant. The broth is made in house and cooked for 24hours before being served to you. I would highly recommend this one. He also offers a nice selection of vegetarian ramen and side dishes which makes it easy for everyone to enjoy the delicious cuisine

✨ Secret Recipe Alert ✨ Did you know you can switch to kale noodles? 🥬 This is a hidden menu only the staff usually eats! 👀 I ordered the Tsukemen Spicy Cold and swapped the noodles for kale — soooo good!! 😋 If you’re like me and can’t digest regular wheat noodles well, this is a game-changer 💯. Also, highly recommend the Tomato Cheese Ramen 🍅🧀. Pro tip: ask for it spicy 🔥 and if you’re a heat lover, go wild with the chili powder on the table 🌶️💥 Super highly recommend 💖🙌 P.S. okonomi gyoza is necessary! Must order!

Google
Omg!! Another Ramen from my favourite Ramen place! I tried Miso ramen today and definitely it was so flavourful!! Nothing beats this ramen place when it’s cold and rainy outside ☺️. I have seen a review where the person prefers Danbo. When I went to try there, the soup was so bland, noodles were thin and soup was soooo cold. However, I respect people’s taste but I will say Danbo is worse. Recommend this Taishoken place to try! It’s also so convenient for me to make it to go and eat at home as my treat after my work since it’s right near by Chinatown station 👍. BTW I added more toppings 😊 Yes I am Korean and I love spicy food. This is my second time ordering take out. The first one I had was Kara miso ramen, it was spicy but perfect for my taste. Second one in the picture is kimchi chasu ramen. Both of ramen that I had were perfect. Broth was so creamy and was flavorful. Noodles were perfectly cooked. If you want to have it at home, maybe ask for not cooked noodle and just boil at home in a boiling water. Toppings that I had on top of added price they were very generous of them to give me lots. Oh! Don’t forget to soak noodles in the broth (you can keep mixing) makes noodles tasty 😋

Yelp
Heard the Tsukemen is good here so wanted to come and try. The thick noodles were nice and the dipping sauce was flavourful but a bit salty for my taste. The grilled pork was a bit on the dry side. I still enjoyed the dish overall but the kelp broth at the end was not hot which was a disappointment. My partner had the ramen and he enjoyed it a lot. Last time we came, I had the ramen and I recalled I drank the whole bowl of soup. I'll probably stick to ramen next time.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to make a return visit to Taishoken and I'm happy to say that their ramen was as delicious as I had remembered it to be. I came with a few friends and we were treated to a feast which consisted of: Chicken Ramen - as good as I remember with very tender chicken chashu, a good amount of firm noodles (even after sitting in broth for awhile), half an egg and some veggies for a balanced meal. The broth was flavourful but my favourite was the chicken...I am amazed that they can get breast to become so tender and the portion is generous. Tsukemen (original) - I dont usually order Tsukemen (dipping ramen) but this is known as one of their specialties so of course we had to order it. I liked the thicker noodles used for the tsukmen and their dipping broth was very thick and flavourful. I found it a bit easier to ladle the sauce onto the noodles in a bowl but either way, it was a filling ramen. Chashu Rice Bowl - we ordered this thinking we wouldn't have enough to eat but it turned out we had to pack some to go! The bowl had plenty of rice doused in a savoury sauce with some chunks of chashu and shiitake mushrooms on top. Okonomi Gyoza - a unique twist on pork gyoza with okonomiyaki toppings including bulldog sauce, bonito flakes and green onions. Beneath the plethora of toppings, the gyoza were crisp, tasty and very enjoyable. Sodas (Ramune and Watermelon) - we got a couple drinks to go with our meal and they were both Japanese bottled sodas. Good but nothing amazing. Overall a small ramen place near BC place and international village that has some of the best chicken ramen around!

Yelp
I came here to try their famous tsukemen. First impression is the noodle isnt as thick as others but the dipping sauce was still quite hot. Many places just serve warm broth which I don't like because dipping the colder noodle in it makes it cold. Noodles were good and chewy. The chasiu was paper thin and quite dry. The dipping sauce had such a weird flavor. I feel like I got a burst of ginger taste. The sauce was plenty and was thick enough to coat my noodles. I just wasnt a fan of the flavor.

Yelp
Taishoken Ramen (大勝軒) has long been known for its fantastic Tsukemen (Dipping Ramen Noodles), but on our recent visit, we decided to try out and explore other items on their menu, Yakisoba and Kimchi Chashu Ramen. Yakisoba: The stir-fried noodles were perfectly cooked with just the right texture--not too soft or firm. The savoury-sweet sauce perfectly complemented the veggies and pork, resulting in a flavoured dish. Kimchi Chashu Ramen: This dish was a delightful blend of flavours, with the savoury chashu pork, spicy kimchi, and flavorful broth creating a mouthwatering combination. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the mild spiciness added a kick to each bite. We couldn't resist pairing our ramen with gyoza. This time, we decided to try the Okonomi Gyoza and were not disappointed. The pan-fried gyoza was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the generous topping of Katsuobushi (bonito flakes) added an extra layer of flavour. Plus, the Japanese mayo on the side was the perfect finishing touch. Overall, we had a fantastic meal at Taishoken. The food and service were delicious; we'll definitely return soon. We highly recommend it to any ramen lover! Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Kids usually love noodles and gyoza. Presentation: 3/5 Parking: Parking can be challenged in the neighbourhood. Tips: * Convenient pre or post-game dining location near BC Place. * Generous portions encourage sharing for a diverse taste experience. * Don't just stick to ramen; try their tasty side dishes like gyoza, chashu plate, and don bowl. Would I Return: Yes ‍

Yelp
Pretty tasty ramen shop on Abbott, across from International Village. Parking is pretty awful here. Nearest spots I can think of are in the International Village parkade. Just don't get caught. The inside looks pretty Japanese, with the pale walls and dark wood theme. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. I tried the tsukemen (dipping noodles) with karamiso (spicy miso?) dipping sauce. Pretty tasty. Came with a sheet of seaweed, soft boiled egg, 2 slices of pork (chashu), and some bamboo shoots. Average sized portion. I must say I enjoyed the dish quite a bit. Noodles were bouncy and not mushy. I would definitely come back. Recommended.

Yelp
I'M CRAVING SOME NOODS We finally had the chance to try out @taishokencanada last week and it definitely hit all the right spots. This small ramen shop on the edge of Chinatown has been serving their signature Tsukemen and Aton lotus ramens for years now. I remember always walking past this ramen shop and being enticed by the smell of their broth wagging out onto the street. And now that I've had the chance to try their ramen, I'm beating myself up for not stepping through the doors sooner. Their signature Tsukemen (dipping ramen) is one of the better ones that I've tried in Vancouver. You eat Tsukemen by dipping the dry noodles into a condensed broth and slurping it up bite by bite. Once you're finished with the noodles, you can even ask for a clear broth to dilute your dipping broth so that you can enjoy a post-ramen soup. We tried all three of the Tsukemen broths--original, karamaiso, and spicy. My personal favourite was definitely the spicy, even though I'm not usually a fan of spicy soups. I just found that one to have the most depth of flavour. The noodles were also perfectly chewy but still bouncy at the same time. Their Creamy Tomato ramen though, stole both of our hearts. Each strand of noodle was coated in that delicious tangy, sweet, and umami broth. The melted cheese topping also gave each bite a super rich cream flavour. Even the tofu was soaked in that tomato flavour. My best friend and I couldn't stop slurping this one. This ramen is also vegetarian friendly--and I promise you will not be disappointed. We also tried out their Okonomi Gyoza as an appetizer which was really delicious as well. I really enjoyed the added flavour from the bonito flakes and okonomiyaki sauce. The bottoms of the gyoza were perfectly seared, giving each bite a nice crunch. If you guys haven't checked this place out yet, I would definitely recommend you stop by the next time you're in the area. I haven't been this satisfied by a bowl of ramen in quite a while. What's your favourite type of ramen? 9/10 ‍10/10 $$ (aprox. $20/person) Taishoken Ramen | 515 Abbott St, Vancouver [media]

Yelp
The egg is so good. I love this place. Service is very nice. I really enjoy this place and good location. It is interesting food. Egg is very special. I recommend everyone to try this place.

Yelp
Very authentic ramen, fantastic gyoza, and a really nice staff. It was raining and ramen sounded good. Got in the door-full house. Put our name on the list. Waited 5-10 minutes and a counter spot opened up. Sat down and ordered quickly- place suddenly cleared out. I'm wondering if it was a pre hockey game rush. I got one of the spicy pork ramens- not crazy spicy - probably 5 on a scale of 1-10. Maybe even a 4. Great flavor though. I ordered extra noodles and was glad I did as I was hungry. If you're not starving their amount is above average. The gyoza were fantastic! Great crunch with a tasty light center. So good! We were the only non Asians there wich lends to the authenticity of the place. If you love Ramen, come here!

Yelp
Ok, my wife and I are ramen lovers and we love to try out new ramen restaurants. When we saw this restaurant we decided to give it a shot. Ambiance - a little confusing. 1) Korean owned Japanese ramen shop. 2) Korean fusion. 3)Waitress greet you in Japanese but greet the kitchen in Korean. 4) K-pop song was playing in the background. So is this restaurant Japanese or Korean ramen shop? Let's dig into details around the food we ordered. Gyoza - 2/5 I personally feel it is frozen dumplings that you buy at the grocery store. You heat it up and serve it. I really don't think the texture is homemade. ( I could be wrong but that is how I felt when I tried the dish) Karamiso Tonkatsu - 2/5 my wife and I felt it was similar to Korean doenjang jjigae.Soup was too rich to combine with ramen. One fact about the soup is they should filter it. We can taste the "residue". I wouldn't order it again. Kimchi chashu- 4/5 this is similar to kimchi jjigae. I personally enjoyed it. I feel it was a great idea to combine the concept of korean soup with Japanese ramen. It was executed beautifully. Everything clicks in the soup. The charcoal on the chashu really brings the soup flavor out. The aromatic and texture from the fermented kimchi made you want to drink the whole soup and also cleanse your palate for wanting to eat more of the chashu.
google avatar

Vasily K.

Yelp
I rather agree with other reviewers about the taste being a little bit "off". It's not bad in any sense of the word but the ramen is definitely more of a homemade flavor than a restaurant. We got the tsukamen, and tonkatsu. They were both totally fine but no one at the table was slurping down the end broth or asking for more noodles. Most of the bowls still had noodles at the bottom and it was obvious something didn't please most palates. Not for me.

Yelp
my favorite dipping noodles in the lower mainland. the richness of the broth never disappoints. the portions are enough to make you order 'kaedama' which is another order of noodles. the egg is perfectly soft boiled and the pork is extremely tender and juicy. they unfortunately don't let you pick lean/fat in terms of meat and they don't add naruto anymore, but it is still the #1 for tsukemen. the okonomi gyoza is delicious as the mayo and bonito flakes make it flavourful. service is fast, welcoming and friendly and the setting of the entire restaurant makes me feel like i'm back in Japan. ordered: okonomi gyoza, regular tsukemen

Yelp
Im in Vancouver so a night for business and wanted good food. I walked by this place and it smelled so good that i walked back and had to try. Im glad i did because it was DELICIOUS! The servers were so attentive. The place was nice and dimly lit. I loved it. I had the Miso Tonkotsu. It was so flavorful. Bug portions. Highly recommended 10/10 would try again.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't have time for a good workout? No problem, this is a good alternative to sweat lots! The heat trapped in this restaurant is unreal. We walked in and were sweating profusely minutes later. Service was fine, but it was uncomfortable eating while my pants were sticking to my legs because of the sweat - sorry TMI! The menu is pretty small but they have most of the common dishes - e.g. gyoza, tonkatsu ramen, dipped ramen, veggie option, and miso ramen. I was pleasantly surprised that you can pick pork belly or pork shoulder for the choice of meat. The broth was flavourful and it satisfied my salty craving. I recommend sticking to the pork belly as the pork shoulder was a bit dry. The portion size was decent though I left still a little hungry. What I didn't enjoy was how thirsty I got after the meal. Perhaps, I'm just drinking extra water to compensate for the amount of water I sweated off, but I was drinking CUPS of water and still felt thirsty. I suspect there is a decent amount of MSG in the ramen here. While the ramen was decent, the thirst and heat was unbearable.

Yelp
Taishoken is one of my first ramen loves. More specifically, their tsukemen. Something about that thick flavour bomb of a broth in which you dip your noodles and slurp it all up. Tsukemen is perfect for any weather - summer? Get the cold noodles. Winter? Ask for the warm noodle option. This place is perfect for any pre-game eats as it's so close to the skytrain and Rogers Arena/BC Place. They currently have plexiglass installed between every table and on every 4 seats of the giant shared table, as well as a bottle of hand sanitizer on each table.

Yelp
I've tried Taishoken in the bay area, so when I realized there was one in Vancouver as well, I knew I needed to give it a try! The restaurant is small with enough seating inside for 4-5 small groups, given the current covid requirements. You order at the front, and the food is brought to you. Since they're known for tsukemen (dipping noodles), that's what I ordered. I went with a bowl of the original tsukemen for $12.95. They offer both standard ramen, such as tonkotsu, and interesting options such as kimchi chashu and tomato cheese, which is also vegetarian. The food came out pretty quickly. The broth was very flavorful and thick, making it easier for the flavor to stick to the noodles. I like the broth here more than the Taishoken in the bay area. For the chashu, you can choose from either the shoulder or pork belly cut. I got one of each and liked the pork belly slice more, even if it was quite fatty. At the end, you can request a bowl of clear broth to mix into the condensed dipping broth, so you can drink it like you would ramen broth. I'd definitely come back and get another bowl of tsukemen if I'm ever in the area again!

Yelp
Got the veggie karamiso ramen Soybean base soup with garlicy spicy miso, green onion, bean sprouts, egg, black mushroom, garlic chips (I also added corn and bokchoy). This was really good. I really liked the flavour of the broth. I would for sure get this again!
google avatar

Yelp
Got recommended by a yelper that this place has a tsukemen. Thanks for the recommendation!! I agree that this was better than menya itto for the tsukemen and it was relatively cheap to get. The best in town? Yes. Really good compared to the world? Maybe not. But its good in vancouver so definitely check it out. Cheers!
google avatar

Solovino D.

Yelp
Do you like the 69-cent ramen from the grocery store? Here you can get even more of it in a big bowl. Ramen is sad, as is this little strip-mall cafe.
google avatar

Yelp
Best ramen in Vancouver. Great service and the food was delicious. The ramen had a rich broth and the chashu was delicious. If you're looking to get authentic Japanese ramen, this is the place to go. (Over 100+ locations in Japan). There was also a great vegetarian menu as well and reasonable pricing, would get it again !

Sanae Y.

Yelp
The soup is too light. I had the Kara miso ramen and there is not enough fat in the soup to offset the spice. I understand that you're closing soon but making me pay for my meal while my child and I are eating is rude.
google avatar

Marje B.

Yelp
Um it was o-k. First of all Im not a big soup person. My husband is. But when I was introduced to Ramen, I loved it!! I have several places that are my go to in the city. I've wanted to try this place because every time I walk pass there's a long line up. I'm a karamiso type of ramen eater. I like the spicy rich broth. I ordered the spicy Tsukemen. I wanted to try something new, I've never had the soup and noddles separated. I also ordered noddles warm. The broth was weird to me. Not what I expected. It wasn't spicy enough, or had bold enough flavours. It was like a tomato soup base, again I didn't enjoy it. Maybe I should have just stuck with a miso ramen, I tried my husband it was good better than what I had ordered but still nothing special to me. The egg and meat was good, only thing I enjoyed. Overall is was ok. Probably wont come back but it was good to try.
google avatar

Mari E.

Yelp
I had Karamiso Tonkotsu with lean chashu. Noodle texture: right texture. Not too hard and not too soft. Chashu: way too thin and burnt out surface. And very dry. Lean chashu doesn't have to be dry. Sorry but I felt this was not chashu at all. Soup: no broth flavor. Miso: I guess right richness. I Just liked boiled egg and deep fried garlic. Once the soft yolk mixed with soup, it tastes better but there was no richness in soup at beginning. Once I had Santoka's Karamiso, here's one seemed closer to instant noodle. Sorry but totally disappointed. I won't come back.

Yelp
Good place for tsukemen, tried them in Japan before and was excited to see them open in Vancouver. Over all quality was good, but the one's in japan were better. They used to have heated stones in your dipping broth to keep it hot, but no longer offer that. Brother is rich and flavourful, but could be greasy and too salty for some. I think it works really well with the thick chewy noodles and you can add some hot clear broth to thin out the dipping sauce at the end or half way through to heat up your dipping sauce.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Love Taishoken Ramen because of the tsukemen dipping ramen. I've had it several times here, and try to return when I can. Recommended for sure.

Yelp
This restaurant has a great atmosphere- and the service was fantastic - the Ramen I had was so delicious- good sized portions- and reasonably priced - highly recommend.

Yelp
Bias: I'm here on vacation from usa so take my review as such. Nice little spot on the street, and they were still covid aware with their plastic screens between the tables. As someone coming from the country that struggle to wrap their head around how bacteria works, this was a nice change. The service was quick and the waitress was super friendly. We got our ramen pretty quickly. The negatives were that the broth was really salty for my mom but no flavor for my sister (they ordered the same exact thing). We suspect that the broth wasn't stirred well, which is why there was a big discrepancy in taste. My mom's dish was missing some stuff too, like the egg, which we didn't notice until halfway through. Overall, not a bad experience because the worker was really chill and nice. I would come here again to give it a second chance if I had the time

Yelp
Price: $13/ person Service: 8/10 affable staff Food: 8/10 small portion Space: small but very cozy with a gentle layout Miso tonkatsu: $11.55 Tonkotsu Ramen has a light white broth stewed from pork bones and fat. It has a creamy, rich, sweet taste from pork bones. Miso tastes mildly sweet, with a nutty aroma. The Chasiu is simmered with soy sauce and the sweet wine is very soft and juicy. Tonkotsu comes with pork, pickled red ginger, boiled eggs, onions, and some vegetables. The noodles are quite small for diners to feel both the noodles and the broth.

Yelp
We arrived around 12 pm on a Saturday and no line up... but prior started piling it soon after. We had 5 people. We ordered two tsukemen, two standard ramen, one ebi tonkotsu (limited time edition) and a yakisoba to share. We all thought the yakisoba was amazing. I was actually surprised at the taste as I've had so many yakisoba in Vancouver and they were all meh. This one was comparable to what I had in Japan. They even gave you mayonnaise on the side, which was a nice kick. At $10.95, the portion was quite generous and they gave you quite a lot of chashu pork chunks. The tsukemen, their specialty, was fantastic as well. I've had tsukemen elsewhere but I still prefer the Taishoken version the best. The broth that you dip your noodles in was perfect. The ebi tonkotsu was a disappointment. It was essentially three tiger prawns (no flavour at all) in a spicy soup. The remaining standard ramens (in soup) was just meh. I'd prefer the soup ramens elsewhere. The broth wasn't special. All of the ramens came with a delicious half egg. If the soup ramens were better tasting, I would've given this a 5 star.
google avatar

Luke Y.

Yelp
Price/quality (3/4): Generally nice, if a bit boring at times. While there are definitely better ramen places in the city, this restaurant won't actually disappoint you. I usually come here for the torigara (chicken ramen). Service (1/1): Service was friendly and efficient. Would I come here again: YES
google avatar

Joelle L.

Yelp
I always recommend this place fod good hearty ramen. I love their tonkatsu ramen because their fatty broth is ACTUALLY fatty, and pretty thick. But if you're not feeling traditional ramen I highly recommend their tsukemen ramen, which is a dipping style ramen! The biggest thing I look for when it comes to authentic ramen is that they must have the multiple kettles of unsalted broth they have all around the restaurant. They're essentially there to dilute the soup base if need be, which tastes so good with the tsukemen which can sometimes be salty.
google avatar

Tram V.

Yelp
Came here before the hockey game and we luckily came at a good time because it started to get busy as we were finishing up. We ordered the kimchi ramen and the spicy miso one. I found the broth to be a bit too rich for my liking in the spicy miso and the kimchi was a bit too bitter and masked a lot of the flavors. We weren't sure what kind of environment they were going for as the music too loud to have a conversation. However with that said, the dishes were still tasty and the servers were wonderful. We never had a moment where our cups were empty! A feat so small yet a lot of restaurants fail to meet. Kudos!!

Monica G.

Yelp
Best Ramen ever, and the service is amazing. My favorite place in town. I've lived in Vancouver 6 years, have tried other Ramen spots, yet I keep coming back to this place.

Yelp
I love Taishoken and have been many times. We went last night and maybe it was an off night but it wasn't as good as I usually remember it. The restaurant wasn't full so it was nice to walk in at 7:30ish and get a table for 4 right away. They came by with the menus and gave us some water. Unfortunately we wouldn't see them return for another 10 mins as a bulk of orders came out at once and they didn't come back to take our order - so we flagged them down. The food came out at 8:05pm. My addition of corn was missing and they said it was coming. The Karamiso has been changed - it's not as spicy as it used to be. They refilled our water glasses once but in the past came by more often. The additional broth was in a thermos jar but came out lukewarm. When trying to get a hot stone to reheat my broth they said it was all out and people had been stealing the rocks (I didn't mark them down for this). They took my bowl into the back and heated it up with the hot broth and brought it back - it was delicious! It was my first time going on a week night in awhile so maybe in comparison to a weekend it was just different. They have a solid system under pressure but not so much on a slower night. Customer service wise I would recommend they work on their follow up. I can wait patiently for food but not to order. All food should come out at once and if not there should be expectations set. It shouldn't take them 5 mins to bring the machine to settle up the bill (though they split the bill - which was a nice touch but not needed that night). Everyone has an off night so I will be back of course - hopefully it was a one-off.

Yelp
Tsukemen is the only thing I order here, and they do it great. I went here today with a good friend of mine, and ended up being so hungry that I forgot to take a picture! Aha well better luck next time... The karamiso is AWESOME, and my only complaint is that the portions are way too small for the price. I barely got any bamboo shoot or chasu with my broth, which was disappointing. However they were delicious, and the chasu was juicy despite the fact I got the lean meat. A nice place to stop by for lunch if you're in the area. Service is okay-ish. Food is what you're gonna be here for.

Yelp
I went to Taishokne on a warm day. I wanted ramen but I didn't want to walk far for it. The ventilation in the summer is pretty bad as they're so fan or AC. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and Okonomi Gyoza. Tonkotsu Ramen - Overall, the broth too rich for me to enjoy fully. The meat was an average portion and wasn't too fatty or lean. Overall, I would say it's good ramen but you could find better ones around downtown. Okonomi Gyoza - I was really excited to try this as I love gyoza and Okonomiyaki. It was delicious but I prefer takoyaki or okonomiyaki as the gyoza as I find that it goes better with the bonito flakes. If I came again in the summer I would probably order cold ramen. I did not do this and found my experience to be very hot.

Yelp
For Vancouver, this is a Decent, fast serving, safe, quality Ramen. I eat here consistantly even though being introduce to many other ramen place in Vancouver. It has the best over all experience in taste. Pros: - tonkatsu broth tastes good - pretty cheap for its basic ramens - clear broth on the side, freedom to adjust saltiness preference. -safe Chashu -when you order ajitama (egg) , it's one whole egg not half an egg(alot of Vancouver places does that) Cons: -inconsistant noodle cooking quality. -personally I'd like the whole broth to be served hotter I usually come here for ramen if I don't want to think where to eat and am not feeling adventurous. The broth tastes much smoother if you add butter to it. My ideal ramen would be the broth of Taishoken Tonkatsu +2 garlic paste+ extra scallion+butter+seaweed+corn with the Ramen noodle of KinTaro. Restaurant desc. Clean, fast food floor plan. With some Japanese element thrown into the interior decor. Relatively darker lighting interior. Servers are fast paced and friendly. Music is a bit random sometimes latest hip-hop, sometimes early 2010s hip-hop.

Yelp
How have I not written a review for Taishoken yet?!?! I want to say this is the first place I ever tried dipping ramen and I don't know how I ever ate ramen before knowing tsukemen ramen was a thing. I'm super grateful for my wonderful Canadian cousins who brought me here. Canadians always know stuff better than we do. The wait can be tough if you come here during their rush hour but I guarantee you it is worth it. And to be honest, even when we came, the wait wasn't that bad. Granted my Californian bones suffered greatly waiting in the cold (there isn't a lot of room to wait inside, sorry y'all) but it wasn't too long before we were stripping off our coats and sitting in front of a hot bowl of really thick dipping broth and noodles. You must order the tsukemen when you come; otherwise, why bother coming here at all?! Tsukemen is dipping ramen: the broth is thicker and way more flavorful and served on the side of the noodles. You gingerly dip the noodles in the broth long enough to get the flavor without making the noodle soggy and voila! You've just eaten tsukemen ramen. The noodles are chewier and better served outside the broth and yet you still get the joy of noodle and broth. I've since then eaten dipping ramen in other Japanese restaurants and nothing compares to Taishoken (except for, of course, when we ate tsukemen ramen in Japan because...really c'mon). We've been back to Vancouver now twice since the first time my cousins brought us here and we come here every time!

Yelp
Oh.My.Gosh. So freaking good. The ramen slut is speechless. Sorry Benkei you may have to step aside as my favorite ramen joint. I came at 1:40pm on a Monday and I still had to wait in a line up so I was glad when it didn't disappoint. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen and added bean sprouts to it for $1. The broth was on point 5/5. The noodles were great. I like how bamboo shoots and a half an egg were standard fillings. The price ($9.25+ $1 for my add on) was very reasonable. I'll definitely be back. My only complaint was I burnt my tongue on the hot soup because it was so tasty I ate it before it could cool down. The only thing you should be aware of is that this place is NOISY. Like I mean, NOISY. There's loud rap music playing and every time someone comes or goes the servers and the cookers scream thank you or hello. I could barely hear myself think. Once the food came I blocked it out though and the rest was fine. Might not want to come to this place yo catch up with a friend if you are planning on conversating. Update: went again and got the tonkotsu broth but with the creamy miso upgrade. Really rich and tasty. 5/5 stands

Yelp
On a cold November day, my friend and I thought we should have something warm. I had this place bookmarked for awhile, and since we were in the area, it was the perfect time to try it. On Tuesday, we arrived at 11:45 am, and it was already half full. Keep in mind they had just opened at 11:30 am. By the end of our meal, the restaurant was full, and there was a line for a table. I was surprised it was that busy! At first, I wanted to get one of their ramens. However, after reading some reviews, everyone said to just get the Tsukemen ramen. I had not tried dipping ramen before, and wanted something more soupy, but I went with the recommendations anyway. And I'm so glad I did! I got the karamiso and my friend had the spicy broth with our Tsukemen. We had the broth bowls in between us so we could share and try both. I ordered pork shoulder and he got pork belly, which comes in the broth. But for some reason my pork shoulder came out really fatty - I wonder if they accidentally gave me pork belly instead. The karamiso broth was really good. A little spicy and very garlicky. The spicy was a bit too spicy for my taste, and it just got spicier near the bottom. These broths were thicker than the typical ramen broth, and they coated the noodles nicely. The dipping way of eating ramen is also neat - although at the end I just got lazy and dumped the broth on top of the noodles. We both got warm noodles with our Tsukemen. I loved how the noodles stayed chewy and bouncy. These were also slightly thicker than regular ramen noodles, I think, which I liked. The soft boiled egg also comes on top of the noodles. Unfortunately they were not making the hot (ishiyaki?) stones that day as their oven was broken. Otherwise I would have loved to try that to keep my broth hot! The Tsukemen was so tasty - I would definitely come back again when I can. It's a good sized meal, and afterwards, you can have UYU soft serve for dessert :)

Yelp
We got the spicy and original tsukemen. You get a choice of cold or warm noodles. Both are good if you can try both. The cold has more chewiness and texture but don't taste the broth as much when you dip. I think I prefer the warm. The original tsukemen was more well balanced. The spicy version seemed like they just put gochujang with a few more spices. But my husband liked it more than the original so to each their own. We got there at 11:35am and no wait. Service is very friendly. Water continuously filled. The soup broth to pour into the dipping sauce after was so tasty. Made a very delicious soup.

Yelp
The signature of this ramen bar is "Tsukemen" the soup is very creamy and rich from pork mixed chicken broth that you can chosen between classic soup and spicy soup. The noodles are thick. You can chose the pork chashu(Japanese braised pork belly) more or less fat,I recommend more fat in pork chashu is good for melt mouth. The smokiness of pork chashu is very good. The boiled marinated egg cooked perfectly.Gyoza was standard.

Yelp
Got take out here, the ramen was very good and gyoza was delicious. Definitely would recommend checking it out! The portions were decent too. Will be back if I'm back in the area.

Yelp
For a ramen place, I'd recommend this place to anyone. The broth is outstanding and definitely one of the best broths I have tasted in the lower mainland. There is something about it that definitely stands out. Tastes a little hardier, thicker and more flavorful than others that I have tasted. Noodles came out perfect (el Dante), and overal satisfying to the good ol' taste buds. I also had 2 orders of gyozas. One regular and the second, okonomi. While the regular was exactly what I expected (regular and bland) the second, okonomi version took it to another level of flavor and a definite must try. The pricing for the 2 of us plus a small side for my baby girl (superb bowl of rice with some beautifully marinated pork in which I can't remember the name) that came to a total of 5 dishes came up to under $30 and we walked out pretty full and satisfied with our selection. Make sure that if you come to this restaurant, bring your appetites and get ready for a flavorful adventure. Hope you enjoy and happy eating!!!

Yelp
probably one of the best ramen places in vancouver! visited this place for dinner before watching the circus, and everything is still consistent. ordered the classic tonkatsu ramen and the spicy kimchi with tonkatsu... both dishes were superior in taste. the broth rich and creamy and bursting with flavour. quality broth that you can easily tell, time was invested in making it. made with lots of love and attention, making sure the flavours balances out and every ounce of essence is extracted. each spoonful down your system invigorates the soul. the lean pork was tender and succulent, the noodles al dente , providing a good slurp with every bite. special mention to the kimchi ramen as it was perfectly made. no after taste or foul stinky smell from the broth. nicely balanced flavours! always a good old reliable place for ramen when in the tinseltown area. fast service excellent food and cozy ambiance. cant be beat! happy eating!!

Yelp
After watching a movie with some Yelp Elites at Tinseltown, my boyfriend and I were hungry. The first restaurant we looked at on the street was this ramen place Taishoken on the opposite side of the street. It opened till 9:30pm. It was a good timing to eat some late night snacks here. We ordered a spicy tsukemen and a karamiso tsukemen with warm noodles. The portion was good (I.e. The bowl of noodles was not too small or too big. It was about right). The noodles of the tsukemen were round and thick that I really liked the chewy texture. I liked tsukemen more than the regular ramen. The tsukemen came with a piece of seaweed and half of an egg. The sauce or soup that came separately was great! No matter it was spicy or karamiso (two flavours in this sauce or soup - spicy at the bottom and lots of garlic and miso flavours on top) the flavour was excellent. It is a ramen place, so I did not expect the service was extraordinary. It took longer to wait for the tsukemen to come, but it was alright. It is worthwhile to come back to try other ramen in the near future.

Yelp
Taishoken used to have the best tsukemen in town but recent years it is becoming disappointing. Perhaps it is because this ramen store is no longer run by Japanese, both their service and food quality has declined. Staffs are not even nice and the store manager (i guess) has the face like i owe her money. There is always long line-up outside their store around lunch/dinner time so probably they just don't need to worry about their business and wouldn't care about customer service. I understand that restaurants use artificial flavour but recently i can feel their ramen soup contains much more artificial flavour as their soup is not as rich as before but the taste is too heavy. Here i attached the photo of the tsukemen i had today: the broth is not as thick as before and feels more like with extra water; however, the taste is so heavy that i felt my tongue full of chemical things..

Yelp
I've only had one other tsukemen before this, and in comparison the karamiso (spicy garlic) tsukemen here is solid. Not too salty, the dried garlic bits are super flavorful, and the noodles were beautiful - slightly sweet when eaten alone. The couple of pork slices that came in the sauce were a little tough, and the center of the egg on the cold side, but overall a really tasty dish. For the purists out there, I'd highly recommend the warm noodles on a cold day. The temperature may make all the difference. How do they keep the warm noodles from sticking to each other on the plate?! I was looking forward to the soup broth at the end mentioned in another review but never got it. Should have asked for it. Would recommend this dish, and would go again to try the others (despite the 3.5 star rating at time of review)! Go at 11:30am on a weekday if you can to avoid waiting outside in the cold and/or rain. Happy eating!

Yelp
This is my second time here. Came here because my mom has never tried Ramen and thought she would love it. This place is authentic. There are some restaurant that uses instant noodle but this place uses fresh made noodle. You can taste the difference. The place is always busy. Its very small and a bit dark. Its more of a eat and go place. Food came super fast. So its perfect if you are in a rush. Like all ramen places there are not a lot of choices. I would say they have like 10 options or so. THeir broth was quite tastey and smooth. You can tell it took a lot of time to cook that broth. They are however a bit more expensive them other ramen places and yes there are only 2 pieces of meat. highly valued meat. I highly recommend this place.
