Amazing dinner tonight! Taisteal has a nice set of choices in dining from an a la carte menu where you can pick two courses for a set price - £33 for an appetizer and main course or main course and dessert, or have all three courses for a bit more (£38). They also have a 5 and 7 course tasting menu at higher price points (naturally!). All prices being very reasonable. The food was outstanding. I started with a soft shell crab dish with the cod as a main course. My wife had the salmon with tom yum style noodles as a main course and the lychee cheesecake for dessert. All the food was well prepared and tasty. The cod was simply amazing. Prepared to highlight the natural flavors of the fish, it was accompanied by a layer potato and caramelized onion tart. Best dish of the night. Service was outstanding - attentive, friendly and helpful without being overbearing in the least. The pacing was spot on. Highly recommend this gem in Edinburgh.

Great food - traditional Scottish with a fun twist. Service was so nice. Pairing drinks were fantastic Fantastic gateway into tasting menus for an affordable price. Great for special occasions

Very much enjoyed dinner here before a show over the road at the Playhouse. The food was delicious and the service was first rate. Went for the £38 three course set menu, which had loads of choice. Would definitely return here

We had the best time at Taisteal. It was our friends wedding day and the team made it extra special, putting haggis on the menu, making a little plate for their toddler, and finishing off with a platter of gorgeous miso caramel & meringue tartlets. Couldn't have asked for more. It was perfect! Thank you!!

We had high hopes for Taisteal after reading the reviews however left feeling underwhelmed. We were offered an amuse-bouche of venison lasagne for £3.50 extra, which never actually arrived - the starters were placed, no mention of the missing amuse buche. Oddly the wine was brought out but no offer to taste and it wasn’t opened or poured at the table — not what you’d expect from a place positioning itself as fine dining. Highlights were definitely the cocktails and the mains, which were well-executed and flavourful. Unfortunately, the starters and desserts were pretty average — the cheesecake in particular was very bland — and the affogato was the most meagre portion I’ve ever been served. Overall, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend or return.

The best dinner of our life. Every dish was simply delicious, the flavours were like nothing we've ever tasted before. We loved the Thai Tartare, the Chicken Katsu and the Popcorn Baked Alaska, but my personal favourite was the Duck Breast. The price are also very reasonable (I'd recommend the 3 course for £38 deal), and the impeccable service made us feel comfortable and satisfied. Can't recommend enough!

An exceptional culinary experience that thoughtfully showcased local Scottish ingredients. Every course was beautifully plated and delivered great balance in flavour and texture. The use of seasonal produce, vibrant colours, and creative pairings really stood out. It felt refined yet unpretentious — and the five-course set menu at only £50 offered outstanding value for the quality. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Scottish cuisine at its best.

Really nice set menu restaurant. My soft crab was simply delicious 😋! I wish I had eaten five more of those as a main. 🤣🤣🤣
