Taj Bengal, Kolkata

We recently stayed at Taj Bengal and would like to share our experience. A big shout-out to Chef Chandan in Cal27 for preparing a delicious chicken curry on special request. He truly went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our main course to the fullest. Thank you as well to Chef Kavitha for her helpful insights on muesli — much appreciated. The food at the lounge access was excellent, and compliments to all the chefs involved for maintaining such quality. We would also like to thank the staff present on the 5th floor for their attentive service and support during our stay. While the majority of the staff at Cal 27 were responsive and courteous, we did experience some inconsistency in service. A few staff members appeared to knowingly ignore requests, and we faced similar inconsistent responses from the reception team when contacting them by phone. We chose to stay at Taj because of its renowned hospitality, and we believe this standard should never be compromised. Overall, we appreciate the efforts of many team members who made our stay pleasant, and we hope the minor service gaps can be addressed to make the experience even better.

We had a wonderful stay at the Taj. Barring an initial hiccup about the keys, the hotel is definitely worth visiting again. Just about a km from the Victoria memorial, the location is fantastic too. The food at Sonargaon was phenomenal. The rooms are great, spacious, airy and full of natural light. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful. Ganesh from housekeeping, celestina, ratan at sonargaon, naim at breakfast and so many more whose names I unfortunately cannot remember, truly made us comfortable enough to want to visit again. Special thanks to the man who stood outside the elevator and greeted every single person who got in our or, with a smile, every single time. The hospitality of Taj is unmatched.

This hotel is superficially spectacular but once you look beneath the surface you will be disappointed. Our room (232) was clean and comfortable but had a very dated dirty looking bathroom, offering a stained bath with a shower curtain. The room overlooked the busy dual carriageway and the glazing was so poor that it was like sleeping in one of the tents under the raised road All in all I feel confident that I would have had a better nights sleep and access to much better facilities if I had stayed at the Novotel. The food here is very nice

Taj Bengal has consistently provided an outstanding level of service time after time going back many years. Had a most pleasant stay despite the renovations that are taking place. Good balance of retaining the old features and charm while modernising. Mr Sanjib the concierge and Mr Subir at breakfast were so helpful. Only slight negative was front desk while checking in not able to help with neucoins, could have tried a little more. Excellent food both at the restaurants and the cake shop.

Stayed at Taj Bengal with family. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly. The check-in and check-out process was smooth. The room was clean, spacious enough for the kids to roam around a bit. We got a pool view room and there was quite a bit of trees, greenery visible from the room. The housekeeping staff was excellent. Extremely responsive to requests and did a great job of tiding up the rooms every day. The breakfast restaurant could get a bit crowded, with a bit of a wait after 9 AM but there was a good variety of options and the service was quick and friendly. We ordered for in-room dining twice and the food at both times was great, living up to the standards one would expect from Taj. Overall, our stay was great. The only thing I would say which was missing was something within the hotel for the kids to do.

This was my first experience of a 5-star hotel and it did not disappoint. My beautiful spouse was speaking at me Kolkata Literary Meet and they accommodated us in the Taj. It is a beautiful hotel with lots of (Indian) character. The staff are friendly and always eager to help without being overbearing. The cleaning staff will clean your room, give you new towels or water etc at any time of the day. Gorgeous buffet too.

Had an amazing time, the front desk was very helpful. all the service given was really great. |I had a visa appointment and then it got really late for the breakfast, we informed them about this and they were kind enough to send us some good filling breakfast. Thank you so much for hosting us & it was an amazing experience

Was considering two options, Taj New Town or Taj Bengal. Selected Taj Bengal for the two night stay as it is so central to all major attractions. 10-15 minutes drive to Victoria Memorial, New Market, Park Street, Museum, Kalighat kali Temple, with open spaces and greenery around. Venturing in the city was really convenient. The Hotel itself is a beautiful property with fabulous ambience. Very Hospitable staff right from the Entry Guards to the Service staff and Senior staff. Fragrant rooms corridors, Excellent Housekeeping. Good variety of food with ample vegetarian options.
