Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant

Very tasty and pretty local Indian restaurant in Springfield. Each table has nice simple glassware with vases, burgundy cloth napkins and silverware. It's a simple setup yet it somehow makes the restaurant feel very elegant. There is good variety in the menu. I went for the classic Butter chicken with Naan. And it was amazing. Some of the best butter chicken I've tried! I got the mild spice because I'm unfortunately bad with spice and it thankfully was not unbearably spicy and it actually added quite a bit of flavor. One of the workers proudly shared that her husband was the cook of the butter chicken. Makes me think that perhaps the restaurant may be family owned. But I'm unsure. Regardless, I will definitely be coming back to try other menu items.

I have gotten food from this restaurant literally dozens of times without issue. I always get carryout because I'm on the go a lot, but when I go in, everyone is extremely nice and polite, and the restaurant appears very pretty and well-maintained. But obviously, I keep going back because of the food. Consistency is absolutely the name of the game at Taj Mahal, and it's consistently GOOD. The food is hot and fresh, they don't make mistakes with my order, the spice level is always what I want (some restaurants can't be consistent about spice), they're ready on time, and it happens to be the best Indian food I've ever tasted. If this restaurant ever closes, I'll be in mourning forever. As it is, I 100% recommend everyone gives them a try.

Very good Indian cuisine, we had the green salad, chicken biryani and shrimp masala, level 3 spice. And the paneer naan. Everything was tasty and just the right portions. Server was knowledgeable and able to tell us which items were gluten free. All staff was attentive and pleasant Thank you so much! We will be back next time we are in the area😊

I highly recommend Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant here in Springfield. It is the best Biryani I've ever eaten in my life. Excellent recipe. Salute to the Chef. The garlic naan bread is super delicious. I give this restaurant a perfect score. It made my tummy truely very happy.

Food is fantastic. But the honesty is what gets me the most. The other day I ordered and my total was $31 and change. I gave him $31 and said I’d run out to my car to get the change. He said don’t worry about the change. Then he handed me back $10 stating that I actually gave him $41. I didn’t even realize my mistake and he was so honest and could have technically kept it and I would not have known. These are good people with good morals and delicious well priced food. I’ve been coming to them for 15+ yrs and will continue for my whole life.

We were here on 4th July vacation and wanted to try Indian food. We had ordered mix pakoda, chicken curry and butter naan with mild spice level. Everyone was delicious and perfect. Staff is very good. We will definitely comeback when we are in this area.

This is our favorite Indian cuisine in Springfield. It is very quiet inside everytime we've been for dinner. Everyone is super friendly and have helped us decide on new dishes to try everytime. If you like spicy they have a sauce called vindaloo, loaded with flavor and heat. My favorite is chili chicken which was reccomended by a server. Always get the garlic naan! The portions are huge i always have 2 sometimes 3 meals out of it.

Wonderful place , be ready for all the warmth with smiling faces welcoming you, food is amazing with hot variety of nans , they take special care for food preferences. Make couple of rounds in between to make sure everything is fine and anything is needed to be added.A wonderful place to relax and enjoy traditional recipes of Indian food.

Typical storefront appearance on the outside, inside side music and subtle lighting created an upscale atmosphere. Service attentive but not overly friendly. I had a mixed grill consisting of chicken tandoori, lamb kabob, etc. Well seasoned, served on a bed of sizzling onions and peppers. Moderately spicy. Our appetizers of a hearty chicken turnover and slightly overcooked potato patty were an excellent start.

If you like Indian food, you'll love this place! I've had this a number of times...and every time...this place is da bomb! The Tandoori chicken: absolutely a great tasting chicken. Has the right amount of flavor and the char from the cook - it's a winner. Tikka Masala: Wow....that's all I can say to this dish. All the veggies flavored up to perfection!

We love the Taj and get our order to go. If you like the spice, they can bump it up for you. The curry, chicken, butter, chicken, tandoori chicken is super Duper wonderful. The yogurt raitha though needs some work. So I purchase Greek yogurt, add cilantro, and diced red onion and cucumber with a tablespoon of my favorite curry spice. Also, I get my own butter naan from Walmart. These two home additions help round out your meal and brings down your cost. The order lasted us a couple of days and just got better and better. Enjoy!

The food is really good. Great flavor and tender meat. The problem was the wall next to where we were sitting had food splatter all over it. Which wasn't appetizing at all. The employees weren't very friendly either. Would barely speak or smile. If it weren't for those things I would have given more stars. Plus they advertise a lunch buffet but don't have one. For 13.99 you can get meat in 3 different styles on one platter. I needed more I did not get full for 13.99. Just my experience. Thanks y'all out

This is some of the very best food I've ever had. It's always perfect. I've other Indian restaurants in Springfield and this one is the best.

The food was phenomenal! I'm just a poor old white boy from Arizona, so while I love Indian food my tolerance for the spice is pretty low. I love the flavor, but it doesn't take much above a mild level of spicy to burn my taste buds out. The wife and I have been eating at Zayka for the last few years and until recently had no complaints, but decided it was time to branch out after their spice levels on the same dishes started becoming inconsistent from visit to visit. One day the mild would be fine, but the next it would be so spicy we couldn't eat it at all. Indian food is awesome but I don't want to play Russian Roulette with my taste buds on the with each visit. Fortunately we tried the Taj Mahal as our backup and they hit it out of the park right out of the gate. If the same meal is too spicy next time though I'll keep you updated.

Would not ever recommend getting take-out from here. Took them over 2 hrs to have our food ready- only 3 dishes. No reason it should have taken so long.

Food was great! I had the chicken tiki masala and garlic Naan bread. Always a must. Service was friendly. Place was very busy so always a great sign. I didn't really pay attention to the decor so I cannot comment about that.

We stopped by for a dinner with out of town friends and this hit the spot!! Rich, bold flavors in the dishes we tried. Loved the naan and mango lassi too! Service was adequate. Clean, plenty of tables and they were willing to accommodate our larger party.

Loved the ambience and hospitality of this restaurant. We ordered butter naan and curries. Both of them tasted very good. Owner or manager saw that my 5 yr olds were not eating and sent them complimentary milk dessert(Payasam). They even made lot of efforts to get our kids different kids of sauce as they did not have ketchup

Great tasting food. Went for dinner and the music was blaring outside from speakers and we almost left. Thankfully we did not and asked for a table away from speakers. (Never noticed the music again). Ordered the Lamb Korma and chicken jalfrezi. Both were great. Good portions and decent prices. We'll be back!!!

Since the COVID issue most restaurants have cut their portions and quality, but none more than the two Indian restaurants. We really had a craving for Indian food so we decided to drive waaaaay across town. Taj no longer has a buffet that you order from to go. Now you just have to order from the menu, and that menu has the same prices, but the portion sizes and quality has gone extremely down hill!!! I got the Chicken tiki masala, and a 7 veggie dish. The masala literally had about 10 small chunks of chicken for $14, and the vegetables were watery for $12! Why do restaurants think they can change a premium price for small portions and mediocre food!?!

Love their food - lots of delicious options. I'm not an indian food officianado, I've only eaten it maybe 3 times. Twice was here and I loved it both times. The service is good and the staff is very friendly. The restaurant is nice, clean and usually busy. To me, a crowded restaurant tells me all I need to know. If u haven't been there check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Service was extremely slow (with the naan coming very late) and then they forgot my order. I asked about my order 3 times after the rest of my family got their food (and finished it) and only then did they say it was missed and wanted me to order something else. Food was good; but possibly not worth the over an hour wait. They apologized several times and comped the missed dish (which they admitted that they gave to someone else by mistake).

My lady and I searched for a high quality Indian restaurant to be our go to Indian cuisine. We came to Taj Mahal due to their reviews and menu offerings. We order Lamb biryani, lamb vindaloo, chicken tiki masala, Lamb korma, garlic naan, chicken samosas, and tandoori chicken everything we ordered had delicious and robust flavors while being cooked to perfection. we usually get the same thing at Indian restaurants that we have visited and I must say this is definitely one of the best if not the best that we have tried. The decor was very nice and traditional, and the entire wait staff was very friendly and fast. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for ethnic food and especially Indian cuisine. You will not be disappointed!

Lamb Korma, maharaja Nan, makes everything better. I barely ate and I'm full already. Really good and will be back this Saturday. Outside dining only.

Excellent and consistent. My wife and I have eaten there many times. I meet w friends and colleagues as often as I can.my favorite is chicken Marsala.

I've grown up with great Indian food so I'm familiar with authentic dishes. Having moved from Vegas I'm used to lots of choices of Indian restaurants, here however in Springfield choices are limited. I decided to check out this local place for lunch. I was greeted right away and seated, only given the set menu of either chicken or vegetarian, opted for the chicken. Not sure if they offer a regular menu cause I would have preferred to order from it. Within a few minutes lunch was served, chicken curry was ok, not sure what spice level it was, maybe a 1 out of 10, guess it's toned down for the locals, I'd prefer a 7 or 8. Butter chicken was more shredded chicken, tasted ok, little on the sweet side for my liking. Third dish was some chickpea dish, again was nice but on the mild side. Also served with rice, some lettuce and 1 slice of cucumber, a yoghurt sauce and some Indian bread, not sure what it was, didn't seem like naan. Would have been nice if the owner came by to check on me and the food, he was out in the restaurant chatting to tables with Indian diners and checking on their meals.

A decent North Indian based restaurant. An average or may be above average but I believe one of the better options in town

My favorite Indian Cuisine!! I love their Chicken Tiki Masala and Curry, tandoori chicken wings, and the Naan bread and my favorite dessert kheer. Their food are fill with spices and herbs. Its so amazing and aromatic. The restaurant is very neat looking and clean. Everyone works like a family here. They always constantly checking on you refilling the drinks. I went for lunch, they always have a buffet. The food never dries out and always hot and warm. I always leave happy and never dissatisfied!! Highly recommended to come try out this Indian hot gem! Its the best in town!

The food is always good. The service great! Very friendly and attentive. I forget to tell them I like the food spicy so its usually on the mild side, but the flavors are excellent. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in town. I wish they would open the buffet again because its hard to make a choice of which dish you prefer. Even though the pre set lunch menu has three on it, they are not usually the ones I would choose. And when you order several off the menu it can get very expensive quickly. Bottom line: the food is excellent. Give them a try if you haven't.

First time here Had #69 which was extremely good and wished I could have ate more Alcohol is cheap Nice environment I have not eaten a lot of Indian food so beware but I'll be back for more of this Second time Butter chicken phenomenal, onion bread super good 3/26/19 14 visit, still a thumbs up. And how can you argue with 5$ ketel 3/5 now They recycled their tandoori chicken for butter chicken and added extra spice I mean I still like it but come on

Service is a little slow, meat to sauce ratio is a little off. That said everything tastes amazing, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Prices are great for what you get from here. Definitely worth popping in and checking out.

I was near Springfield for a few days and I went here TWICE! I definitely plan to go back soon when I pass through. Their butter chicken & their lamb korma was a hit both times for me! I liked the Raita so much with the garlic Naan. This place was 10/10 and the service was pleasant too.

This place was awesome. It was 14 a piece for lunch. It looked like a smaller portion than what it was, but after I ate about half, I realized I was about full. Great staff, great food, clean bathrooms, and a calm atmosphere. Will be back.

I'm not Indian, I'm American, and this is the best food I've ever eaten in my life. I had the chicken vindaloo and garlic naan. The sauce of the vindaloo is perfectly spicy and I could cut the chicken with a spoon. If I could bathe in the sauce, I would. I ordered this on a whim and it was so good, it knocked my socks off. Unfrickenbelievable!! I will definitely be back and recommend this to friends and family!

Recommend by a local at a RV Dealer we stopped at passing through Springfield. It was so good. Lunch special includes a salad, 3 dishes, rice and naan. I got veggie dishes, husband got chicken. All 6 curries were delicious. Wish I lived closer, I would be a regular but I'll stop anytime I'm passing by!

Not the best experience ordering to go as twice they have gotten my order wrong. The food is very good but I appreciate it when simple instructions are followed. For me is a sign of attention and respect.

Very fair prices for such a classy place with excellent food. Looking at a glance I thought it would be more expensive and the menuis filled with a huge variety to choose from. Everything I've tried has been great.

I've only visited Taj Mahal during lunch hours, and have had the buffet each time. They have an excellent variety of Indian dishes and vegetarian dishes. The sauces are very well seasoned and there's also a little salad bar if you'd rather have that, or even as a starter. There are a variety of chicken and meat dishes as well. I really wish they'd offer Saag Paneer, but they haven't had it any of the times I've been there, so I'm guessing it's not part of their buffet selection. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because they seem to run out of naan pretty frequently, and then it takes them awhile to refill it. Other places will have servers walk around and offer naan to the customers if they've been out of it for some time, but at this restaurant you just have to keep your eye out for the refill. Aside from that, it's a good restaurant.

Excellent food, just wish they had the buffet again. Entrance/exit/checkout is super tight and hard to get through when busy, otherwise no complaints

Wonderful staff and absolutely delightful selection of high quality tasty entrees. Definitely recommend the paneer wrap as a vegetarian. Checks all the boxes for me! The rice is so flavorful I could eat as a meal on its very own. This to me is one of the best places I've eaten here in this city. I'm about to call in an order right now!! Very crave-able indeed. Such nice people who work here too.

The atmosphere in there was ok. It was fairly quiet with some Indian music in the back ground. When we ordered and got our food, my dish was super spicy, and I ordered mild. I told the server about it and he replied with" I don't know , the chef cooks it." So they pretty much did nothing about it. Then I asked what spicy level it is, and the server was telling me all the ingredients, so then I asked again how spicy is it, them he replied with " I don't know, what ever you ordered." At the end I don't eat it bEcause it was too spicy. We also ordered 4 different bread. And for some reason we got a onion bread that we didn't ordered. So we told the server and he was raising his voice and kept insisting that we did order the onion bread. So we didn't even get the lamb bread and cheese bread that we ordered. Overall it was ok but the biggest problem is the inconsistency and them taking the wrong order making the wrong food. It felt a lot like they were being selfish and not trying to redo the food or not caring. But it's ok, we won't come here again.

Order the Chicken Vindaloo. You're welcome. I'd say beware the spice, but you should know what you are getting into beforehand.

Five stars for food quality. Had the Vegetable Korma and Eggplant Biryani. Both tasted great. Why two stars? Very small portions. $40 delivered via Uber Eats and both entrees were in what seemed like a double pint container. It was one decent serving. Should be double for what you are paying as both were lacking on vegetables and eggplant. I feel violated! For that much moola, give me more. Oh yeah, they were very generous with the rice, as the food cost was about .12 cents.

I love their food! Every time I order their food is delicious and we'll served. They have options for spiciness for your food: mild, medium, and hot. I really appreciate the options because I can only do mild to medium.

This is Best Indian food in springfield! We love a great Indian dish time to time and I have to say my kids and husband all love this place.

The Taj Mahal is a great restaurant and in my opinion is one of the top two best Indian restaurants in Springfield. The quality and taste of their food is always on point along with the quantity for what you pay. Their ordering service/communication could improve a little but it never stops me from eating from here!

This was a delicious place to eat lunch at thanks in part to the buffet they offer during lunchtime! My whole family found something they liked and that's always a plus since we have two adults and two little kids (7 years old and 4 years old). The kids loved the mango chicken and the saucy fruit (can't remember what that's called but it's like melted ice cream and it's so good!). I really enjoyed the fried eggplant, rice, naan, butter chicken, and a mushroom dish the most. My husband liked the goat and almost everything else. They were very reasonably priced as well, it only cost us $35.54 since we all had waters and that was for buffets on a Saturday. We will definitely come here again the next time we are traveling through Springfield!

I visited here when I was in town for business for the night and wanted a quick dinner. I really enjoyed the Thali which gave me a sampling of a good variety of the meat offerings (butter chicken, lamb curry, tandoori chicken, Seekh kabab) and a few sides and finished the meal with a tasty rice pudding. It's always nice at a new restaurant to get to try a few different options. The menu had all of the staples you expect from an Indian restaurant. The service was prompt but not intrusive which I always appreciate. I would come back again

Love the butter chicken and chicken curry from here. I really like everything I've tried. The reason I'm taking off one star is that this last time we ordered three entrees to go and they only gave enough rice for one. It seems every time I get an order from here we get a widely different amount of rice. When planning to have this as a meal for a family I had planned amounts based on previous orders where there was at least enough for each entree, this time I had to make more rice at home to go along with the rest of the meal. Also when we ask for two of the same entree they put them together so you have to divide it on your own ( I get they are saving on supplies, but it's inconvenient when you are planning on taking food to someone else).
