"This five-story structure is a welcome addition to the emerging kingdom’s small capital city. With an appealingly chic design, it also reflects traditional architecture. Its exterior walls are painted a saffron hue with swirling dragons and Buddhism’s eight sacred symbols. The 66 elegant rooms—the smallest of which measure 450 square feet—are a haven with high ceilings, dark-brown lacquered wood floors, walls mounted with mandalas, heated bathroom floors, and cushioned daybeds from which to gawk at the Himalayas. Early-morning risers may catch sight of the monk who chants prayers in the outdoor courtyard, also where traditional dancers perform most nights around the sunken fire pit. Mirrored walls affixed with an auspicious 108 Tibetan horns decorate the walls at the restaurant Chig-je-gye, where the impressive Bhutanese menu includes a milky river-weed soup and ema datshi, the national dish of melted cheese with grated chilies. Rimps, the lobby-level tea lounge with dramatic carved walls rising another four stories, serves a tasty salted butter tea and a selection of authoritative reads on the region. Beneath the indoor pool is the aromatic Jiva Spa."

Pemako Hotel is a fantastic place to stay in the heart of Thimphu. The hotel offers a perfect blend of comfort and convenience, making it ideal for both leisure and business travelers. Really nice hotel with good rooms and lovely service. The staff was the best part. But the food was also great. Definitely ask for a Bhutanese meal while you are there.

Happiest place on earth…of course Bhutan on the list then! Unfortunately, I got sick when I landed in india so couldn’t do any of the excursions to truly see Bhutan. I did some local walks close to the hotel and really enjoyed the quiet and serene beauty here. Great place to stay. Wish the food spread was amazing too..it was nice but just that.

If you want to be pampered and treated like a king, and queen, Taj Tashi Hotel in Thimphu is the place to stay. The traditional Bhutanese design and surrounding garden grounds are a quiet sanctuary. What makes this hotel par- excellence is the staff, everyone goes out of their way to get to know you, to check on how you are doing, to offer opportunities to explore more of their culture. On our first night, we were able to dress in traditional Bhutanese garb, attend a beautiful dance performance, and participate, then have dinner. Their strength is focusing on the smallest details. They noticed it was my husband’s birthday while we were staying here and surprised him with a decorated room and birthday cake. We were able to use the spa, the hot rock bath is unique to Bhutan and offered a wonderful respite from all of the hiking. Every member of the staff from the front door greeter to the restaurants, to the front desk, to housekeeping are fantastic, if only we had this much grace and care where we live. Tika Ram, the duty manager was leading the charge and is a fantastic man, he was on top of everything.

Recently visited Taj tashi for a vacation and it was the best. Set amidst perfectly landscaped gardens, it indeed is a great place. But what makes it even more special is the feeling you stay there. The architecture of the hotel is fascinating and it is a perfect getaway well within the city. It has the feel of a heritage stay and is the best for celebrating special occasions. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay comfortable and memorable. The interiors are beautiful and plush and the rooms are spacious with all modern amenities that you would need. The suites are huge with a living room and a grand bedroom with balconies that open up to a beautiful view. Coming to the food, we dined at Thongsel and met Michelin star Trained Executive Chef Rajinder Sareen , who goes all out to give us all the fine dining and memorable experience at All day dining restaurant. The breakfast buffet was quite exhaustive well dishes for all tastes. Lunch and dinner had multi cuisine dishes in Thongsel restaurant and highly recommend their Butter Chicken by Chef Negi. My personal favourite is Thongsel which serves the best European food in town.Special thanks to Tika from housekeeping,Tshering from front office. Our Vacation was made even more special by the friendliness and service of the whole team. It's a very kid-friendly hotel and highly recommend it for family Vacations.
