Have dined here frequently over many years, and it remains one of the best Malaysian eateries. Plenty of wok hei, tender chicken, fragant laksa, and the stir fried garlic shoots are always a hit!

I came here with my friends because they said the Hainanese Chicken Rice is really good. So, 5 of us wanna order 1 Hainanese Chicken Rice for each. And the staff was really nice, she told us we could order a whole chicken with a bucket of rice, it would be cheaper and we could order more if we think it's not enough. The Hainanese Chicken is so yummy😋😋 The chicken is very tenden, and the chicken flavor rice is good, too☺️ Only the vegetables are just average and a bit expensive with little portion. Overall, it was a good experience here.

Google
This is a truly awesome find in Northbridge! Tak Chee House serves a wide selection of Malaysian dishes with many options for different noodle types and combinations. Our go-to order here and a must try if you visit is their Hainanese Chicken Rice! The chicken is just so tender and soft whilst the sauce is the perfect balance with the fragrant rice. Their other noodle dishes are also delicious - and their portion sizes are very generous. This place can get quite busy and cramped but it gives you the authentic Malaysian restaurant atmosphere. Staff are very attentive and efficient!

The steam Hainan Chicken cooked perfectly. Tender with excellent sauce. Very popular place.

Tak Chee House in Northbridge - famous for its Hainan chicken rice. Had it earlier this week and the roast chicken and have to say it wasn’t what it used to be. I’ve said this before about it being hit or miss. Definitely not what it used to be sadly. The rice was nice but the chicken wasn’t great. The wing was dry and very very very hard. A friend also mentioned that the old man who used to make the chicken isn’t there anymore. I ordered a half chicken takeaway and was given all breast meat. It had a distinct bleachy taste my mum said. The roast chicken I order with a leg had no leg just a wing piece and some breast meat and a portion of thigh. I went and and got some takeaway next door at Fortune Duck and that $9 cash herbal chicken and rice was night and day - absolutely amazing! Completely forgot about this but needless to say my mum was VERY upset with her takeaway. Sorry to say this. The chilli sauce is still excellent and the rice is still great.

It is indeed a small Malaysian restaurant attracts a devoted daily crowd for its down to earth, home-style food. The venue is nothing fancy with simple decor. Service is friendly and efficient. The signature dish here is Hainanese chicken rice and They serve up one of the best versions in Perth. Other favorites on the menu include Mee Goreng, Kuay Teow, Hokkien Fried Noodles, Roti Canai, and Curry Laksa. All popular and all delicious. Also keep an eye out for the daily specials.

This restaurant has been around for many years and is famous for serving one of the best Hainanese chicken rice dishes in Perth. It's our go to place for chicken rice, although the amount of garnishing like bean sprouts have reduced and the chicken breast pieces can be somewhat dry and monotonous. Service is a bit mixed here, and can get chaotic especially when they get busy.

Okay we were really craving for something Singaporean / Malaysian after being away from home for so many days. So glad to have found this place and of course we had to have the chicken rice. It’s not as good as what we get at home but good enough. Chicken was nice and smooth, loved that that was boneless and tender. Fried rice and char kuey Teow were somewhat lacking in flavour but its okay, we still enjoyed it. Lor bak was really good, i liked it with the chicken rice. The restaurant looked old but it didn’t bother me at all. It was a busy evening but the service was quick and good. The young waiter did very well multi tasking and keeping a pleasant attitude despite being so busy. Well done!

Yelp
Tak Chee serves one of the best Hainanese chicken rice in Perth, especially for its fair price. Its flavors would make anyone who grew up with these dishes nostalgic. The menu offers a range of Malaysian Chinese delights. In addition to the Hainanese chicken rice, I'd also recommend the curry laksa. I've tried the char keow teow twice before, but both times were a miss for me. It lacked a certain char that I can find at other similar restaurants. The interior and décor are down-to-earth and nothing fancy, but it shows how well it's been able to do since its establishment in 1987. Service was okay depending on how busy things are, but the ordering staff were friendly and casual. If you're in the mood for traditional and authentic Malaysian Chinese food and don't mind the humble environment, Tak Chee is definitely the place to be!

Yelp
Where to begin when reviewing my spiritual home, my comfort, my one true love? It's certainly true that right now is a good time to be in Perth- many, many new bars/eats are appearing constantly and this is definitely a good thing. But choice can be crippling and sometimes you just know exactly what you need. And 90% of the time it just happens to be hainanese chicken rice. There's a certain comfort to be found in having that place you can go where you don't need a menu, the waitresses notice your haircut and your bottle of wine costs more than your dinner. Also, CR is the cure for all ills. Notable mentions: Bak kut teh special on Wednesdays. Most excellent laksa. Chicky rice All. The. Time. Also, a most effective tinder date filter. I heart tak chee.

Yelp
This place was recommended by my Indonesia colleague as being better than pappa rich and I was very disappointed. They take cash only. Do not split bill. It's a tiny place that doesn't look very clean. Water is served in plastic colored cups. My colleague and I both ordered roti canai with chicken curry and were very disappointed. The curry was lukewarm, flavorless and the chicken was floating in a pool of oil. Instead of immersing the potatoes in the curry with the chicken, pieces of boiled potato were slapped on the top of the bowl. We got one roti each (moderate size) and so much chicken. Ordering an extra roti costs a whooping 4 dollars. The satay chicken was good. But four skewers for 10 dollars seems a bit steep for Northbridge. I was very disappointed.

Yelp
When people say chicken rice, I think Tak Chee. It is my "go to" for guaranteed consistently tasty chicken rice. Last night was a chicken rice kind of night. Food generally comes out pretty fast at hawker joints like this but we were really hungry so we ordered some loh bak to feed the hunger pains. Loh bak (aka lor bak) is Chinese five spice marinated pork wrapped in bean curd skin. The fattier parts of the pork is used to make this so you can expect it to be soft and juicy. This one at Tak Chee was a little on the sweeter side than I would have liked. The meat was sweet and the dipping sauce was sweet... We wanted to order 1/2 pan fried garlic chicken and 1/2 steamed chicken but to our dismay they ran out of fried chicken! How can they run out of fried chicken at 7pm? It's not like we dined super late? I was talking to a friend about it after and he said they always run out of fried chicken (or at least that's what he gets told every time he orders it). We have come to the conclusion that it's their way of luring us back because we missed out!! I would suggest heading in early to avoid disappointment. I've never had a disappointing experience with the chicken here. I always go for the thigh/wing parts of the chicken rather than the breast because the meat tends to be more moist in those areas. Dry meat is a big no-no! The price you pay for what you get is very reasonable! I guess the only thing that can vary is the size of the chicken. You can't go to eat chicken rice without ordering the chicken flavoured rice. Cooked in chicken stock, this oily rice (that's what we call it in Chinese) is infused with all fat from the chicken, making it very flavoursome. For those that know me well, I don't eat rice. So for me to actually enjoy eating rice, it better be damn tasty. And this was just that! Mmmm fatty, oily, chicken flavoured goodness. We ordered some greens to go along with our meal to make it more "balanced". Okra is one of my favourite veggies no matter how it is cooked. Sambal okra is definitely at the top of the list. I could have gone without the prawns though. I presume they used a cheap brand of frozen prawns because it wasn't very sweet. You know how some prawns are dry and flaky/powdery? Yeah...that's what it was like. Tak Chee is an oldie but goodie! It still remains my "go to" for chicken rice in Perth. I just hope that next time they'll have the fried chicken available.

Yelp
Review is purely based on the food as we did s take away so can't comment about in-restaurant dining. Boy, I really like the chicken rice! The rice is fragrant with the right amount of "chicken flavouring" without the overly-oily texture that most Singaporean chicken rice has. Yes, I hail from Singapore and as a visiting tourist, has no lack of good chicken rice option back in SG. And this, is really good chicken rice that doesn't lose out to what we are used to. For Asians (esp Singaporeans and Malaysians) who grew up enjoying steamed chicken rice, you will not be disappointed with what this place has to offer. And the bonus, the chicken have all been deboned! So you can just devour the meal without any worry of having to deal with bones. If you want a spicy kick, don't forget to add a side of sambal kang kong. You won't regret it! Take away do take some time for them to serve up as well so have some patience.

Yelp
Tak Chee house, well, I used to worked there years ago, I mean like 15 years ago. Back then when chicken rice is only $5.00. Went there today coz I didn't go there for awhile. Since it's Friday, ordered the Friday special. And needless to say, best har mee ever!!! (Prawn noodle). I have tried prawn noodle from various place but nothing came close to how tak chee house. I mean, THIS IS THE BOMB!! The prawn noodle soup based is intense! From the first sip, you know you want more, second sip and you know it's not gonna be enough! Next is the char kwae tiao(fried flat noodle). I would say it's one of the few place that actually got it right. And it's definitely one of the few place that use "sea hum"(small sea clam) as one of the ingredient. The atmosphere is very casual, laid back type. Which will definitely remind you of any kopitiam place(local coffee shop) in any Asia country that's for sure. If anyone drop by, be sure to try laksa mee, har mee, and never forget the hainanese chicken rice. Your jaw could drop!

Yelp
Famous for the best chicken rice in town and they do live up their name! Tak chee chicken rice smells and taste the best! Generous serving of juicy chicken served with pungent chicken stock rice and dat chilli came with it just complete the whole dish! On top of that, Tak Chee House is the place to seek for good authentic Malaysian eats, serving up good char kway teow, laksa, bah kut teh, etc. Definitely a humble little eatery that delivers honest delectable foods

Yelp
When you ask someone "Hey babe/bro what do you feel like eating?" And then they go "awww, anything i'm not fussed." And you go "How about Italian?" And they go "Naa... not Italian" And you go "Then what do you want?" And they go "Mmm.. anything. Except Italian" And you grit your teeth and say "Chinese?" And they look at you. Pause. Shrug. "Yeah Chinese is alright" So you fight back the urge to physically hurt them to avoid a hard-to-explain criminal record, and you ask "Any chinese food in particular?" "I dunno... Chicken Rice?" BAM. That's it. Chicken Rice. When someone says chicken rice, there's really only a few decent chicken rice places in Perth. But there's only one place that gives you succulent chicken on a bed of bean sprouts in an ADORABLE plate that is shaped like a boat. You know what I'm talking about. It's time for Tak Chee. Where else are you going to go for Hainan Chicken Rice? Seriously. The only real downsides is that the place is a bit small and is only open during normal hours so you can't satisfy your chicken rice cravings at 3pm on a Sunday aka *official hangover eating time* Tak Chee = synonymous with awesome Hainan Chicken Rice

Yelp
$10 Hainanese chicken rice. Massive servings, quick service. This is our go to takeaway option as they package everything so well that it is still fresh & hot once it gets home. This place doesn't look like much from the street & their menu may be small but what they do, they do well! Other recommendations - THE AMAZING ROTI & LAKSA.

Yelp
We had fried (roasted) chicken rice and it was pretty epic! Comparing it to the ones I've had in Singapore and Malaysia, it's almost spot on. You can even choose if you wanted chicken breast or chicken thigh. Amazing. The chilli (the best part of it all) was a bit sweet for my liking and not as spicy as one in south east Asia, but it's good enough for good Ol Perth!

Yelp
This place never disappointed me. As a penangite, this place probably has the best char koay teow and chicken rice in Perth!!! I will come here at least once a week or whenever I miss my hometown food. Brought a few friends here and they all fall in love with it. Don't take my word for it, come and give it a try.

Yelp
The curry chicken and roti is probably the best in perth.. and their chicken rice is also known as top 2 or 3 as well. Food comes out fast, its well priced and never dissapoints. Gets pretty busy around 7ish but you'll be surprised how quickly you can be seated.

Yelp
I was surprised, when the special on the weekend is Assam Laska, one of my most favorites dishes to eat, yet in disappointment when I received, my meal. faults included wrong type of noodle was used, the both separated, it was sour then missing the spicy part, missing where the chunks of fish and the most biggest annoyance was the 1/2 boiled egg in the dish, anyone who has every been to Penang knows that traditionally there's no egg in Assam Laska. If you can't make it better then the original don't make it at all.

Yelp
One of the best places for Hainanese Chicken Rice in Perth! I'm Singaporean so you can take my word for it. I've given 4 stars because IMO there can be room for improvement for cleanliness. I once found bits of purple dish scrub/sponge in my food and all they did was round down the bill, I was appalled! That said, I'll still return because it's got some of the best SE Asian food in town, just don't expect it to be the cleanest. Other noteworthy dishes: Laksa, Char Kuay Teow, Penang Lor Bak I've always gotten good service from their wait staff, they just might need some reminding from time to time, all to be expected from a popular chinese restaurant! :)

Yelp
Cheap and cheerful with delicious food. No flashy decor, small with efficient Asian service. The haninese chicken ($26 for whole chicken) is worth coming here, it's fantastic.

Yelp
As other reviewers have said, this is a definite must go place for Hainanese Chicken Rice in Perth! The satay sticks are also delicious. Something new we tried tonight from the specials board: garlic shoots with sambal...super yummy vegetarian dish (also available with squid if you prefer). My husband is not fond of the typical asian greens and we always struggle to find a vege dish he enjoys. The waitress recommended this and it was a hit for both of us - little strips of tofu, carrot, garlic shoots (something we'd never had/heard of before that offers a more subtle garlic flavour with the added crunch and freshness of greens) all combined with their beautiful sambal sauce. Wish this was a permanent fixture on their menu.

Yelp
Great authentic food and byo, (which is my new years resolution) so that was a great start. The service was a bit slow but once the food arrived it was worth the wait.

Yelp
Finally got to try the supposedly 'best chicken rice in Perth'. Ok this is gonna ruffle up some feathers amongst the Tak Chee's loyalists. I guess I came here with high hopes from reading all the great reviews on yelp and elsewhere. Look there's no doubt that it is tasty but it's a bit of a stretch to call it 'the best'. They serve the chicken with oily rice rather than the other type I'm more used to - cooked in chicken broth with pandan leaf. It just ain't the same unfortunately. Newton Circle serves their hainanese chicken with the chicken broth cooked rice and that kicks all sorta of arse! One great winning point about Tak Chee's hainanese chicken is served without bones. It is moist and absorbs the sauce. I'd probably return to give it another crack and also try their laksa. Perhaps next time I'd order the chicken without rice. The rice definitely ruined rather than complemented the chicken.

Yelp
It may not be the most appealing place from the outside the food and service are really good! It is cheap and authentic food. The laksa, sambal and garlic chicken are delicious! Always come here for a cheap dinner with friends.

Bill E.

Yelp
I remember Tak Chee House when it was in Morley almost on the corner of Walter & Wellington Roads. Then the owner Gin, relocated to William Street Northbridge food has always been good and cheap though prices have increased. I hadn't been there for some years and then somebody reminded me so I went back diners hadn't changed much still usually young Asians perhaps students not a lot of Europeans went there which can be a recommendation in itself. Gin was an older fellow and has probably retired now.

Yelp
If you feel like good Chinese that isn't overpriced then this is the place to go! I've come here multiple times and have always left feeling satisfied. The atmosphere of the place is pleasant, as are the staff. I've had a few types of noodles and the different types of chicken rice and they all hit the spot! Delicious!
google avatar

Zee N.

Yelp
Decent size with reasonable price (for Perth standard!). Not many choices compare to other Chinese/Malaysian restaurants but for a quick meal around Northbridge this place will suffice. I'd recommend the fried beehoon (extra spicy if you like em hott) or fried hainanese chicken rice. Place is a tad small but fast turnover as our foods came out pretty quick - and maybe the fact that we're starving too!

Andy P.

Yelp
They first opened near the horse shoe bridge and I use to go there during my lunch break. It's still In my top 2 best chicken rice in perth. One of the few that offer the roast chicken rice. I got to try other dishes here but everytime I come I can't resist ordering their chicken rice hehe. It's one of the more pricier malaysian hawker place.

Yelp
A little shop with beautiful flavors. I love the hainanese chicken - it's my go-to dish~

Yelp
Had a Cantonese Yee Mee & green veggie with garlic soy sauce. Food was average, service was even more average. Particularly unimpressed with the lady at cashier who was rather rude. Wouldn't go back for seconds
