5 art-driven islands near Hiroshima worth exploring - SilverKris

"A calm, gateway port whose pale-gold sunlight and glassy waters set the tone for arrivals to the Seto Inland Sea; the sleepy piers serve as a primary ferry hub to the nearby art islands and convey a sense of a region just coming into the tourist spotlight." - Kit Nagamura

We visited during the Setouchi Triennale and it was organized pretty well. You can only pay in cash, so make sure you have enough. Also, since there was a lot of people, we had to get there very early in order to get the tickets on the ferry we wanted. The navigation can be a little confusing, but they have signs and people who speak English there to help you.

The Port is located adjacent to the Takamatsu station. I saw internation cruise liners as well as local ferries docked in the facility. It's a pleasant walk along the promenade and quick connection with the main station.

Very well organised counter for buying tickets to Naoshima island. Pls form up / queue ur car for the next ferry before walking over to buy tickets. Adult fare for ferry is 990 yen for return tickets . The fare for vehicle is 5500 yen for a MPV n driver . Took around 1hr to get to Naoshima. The passenger seating area was very comfy and there are many different types of configuration for seating. The Naoshima port of arrival is where the red pumpkin is. Very impressed with how clean n stable the ferry ride was.

The pier allowed both passengers and cars to travel to the outlying islands. The schedule was more for passenger only vessels. Separate lines were allocated for different types of cars in the area. Staff were directing the traffic, but they spoke Japanese only. Tickets were sold in the office inside a building. The fees for cars were quite expensive. Passengers inside the cars were required to go upstairs after parking the cars in the lower deck. The ferry was nicely decorated. Snacks, drinks, and noodles were available. Vending machines were installed. The environment was comfortable.

Show up at 9:05 on Wednesday to buy 9:20 high speed boat ticket and it's sold out. Advice advance purchase. The 10:24 regular ferry ticket machine and the ticket window only start selling ferry tickets 40 min. prior to departure, resulting in a crowd. The port is poorly equipped to handle voluminous tourists.

Busy port with lots of people waiting for the ferry to head to Naoshima. It’s a beautiful ferry ride out there and would love to stay in this area in the future for one night.
