Every time we stop in to eat at Takamatsu it’s nothing short of superb! The food is always amazing, the service is wonderful and the whole atmosphere is welcoming! I highly recommend giving them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Mae was our waitress and she was the highlight of our trip to Arizona! She is the most lovely person. She hugged all of us as we left. We ordered bulgoki, bibimbop, steak teriyaki, soup and baby octopus.

Google
The food is delicious. My waitress was so nice and checked on me periodically. Service was fast. The soup was a surprise with its beefy taste. The Bibimbap was light but filling. All the little sides were delicious. This place has been here for a long time. Some of the seats are patched with duct tape but don't let that stop you from enjoying the delectable and well balanced food this place offers.

This is such a hidden gem! The Mul Naengmyeon was so refreshing and delicious. The banchan was also very good! The restaurant also had a nice atmosphere that felt cozy and everyone was so friendly. Highly recommend!

Google
They are super nice and recognize their customers. She puts our food in to go boxes for us so we don't get burnt and she gives us candy. She also sounds really excited talking about the menu. The guy is also super chill.

Loved this place! Everyone working here is so delightful. My boyfriend and I stopped in before going to the state fair. We've never been. The inside is very warm and welcoming. We had Terra as our drinks and ordered Bulgogi, Chadol, Galbi, and a house salad. The food was amazing...the seasoning and the quality was top notch. I recommend everyone to stop in, at least once.

Google
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Takamatsu!! Everything was delicious and authentic! Felt like we were back in Korea!! We ate the hot stone bee bim bop, teriyaki chicken, bulgogi, and spicy chicken bulgogi with a tempura starter. All were amazing. The side dishes were plentiful and delicious too! The staff was amazing! The service is friendly, warm and welcoming. Our waitress, who I believe is one of the owners, helped is save money with lunch special selections and she was a kind and friendly as can be!! I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the Phoenix area and want to enjoy traditional Korean food and hospitality !

Yelp
Holy smokes!! Loved it!!!! Side dishes were delicious. Cold noodle was good, spicy squid and pork was PHENOMENAL!!! It was so good it made me laugh out loud with delight!!! Excellent service staff and attentive. Very friendly and authentic. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Soju kinda spendy for me but seems to be comparable to the local area. At first I was so sad that this location did not have my pork and black bean but the dishes they served more than made up for it. We look forward to returning to try some more of their recipes! Takamatsu, Thank you so much for a very wonderful meal and exceptional experience!!!!!

Yelp
Great food. Love the korean pancake. The side dushes that accompany thr entrees are especialky tadty. They include fish cake, cabbage kimchee, potatoes, bean sorouts. I especially like the cucumber kimchee. My family really likes the beef bulgogi. People should ignore all the sushi pictures, they no longer serve any sushi. The souos I have tried have been very tasty. Ask about spice level before ordering any dish. The restaurant us well lit so you can enjiy the dushes in comfort.

Yelp
Easy parking right in front. No steps and wheel chair accessible. No waiting for a seat. Walked in and immediately seated by friendly staff. Always make me feel at home. You can cook your own meats on their grill tables or you can order plates. They start you off with miso soup and Banchan right after. Food is authentic and always delicious just like I remember from South Korea. The ambiance is homey feeling and plenty of space to sit with an over flow in the back. If you haven't been you're missing out.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the exterior or location on this one. This place would be great for an intimate dinner or a family gathering. Staff was very welcoming and super friendly. We chose to do the Dak Bul Gogi (chicken marinated in house sauce) and the Kalbi (marinated beef short ribs). The house sauce is very flavorful and the meats we got were very tender. The meats came with several sides to eat including rice, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bamboo shoots, potatoes, broccoli, and imitation fish cakes. All the sides were already prepared to eat and even they didn't disappoint. We will definitely visit again!

Yelp
This restaurant probably got me out of my comfort zone more than most! Definitely feels like one of the most authentic Korean restaurants in time. In a slightly sketchy part of town, but the restaurant itself is nice enough! First, we started with gyoza! This was perfectly cooked and one of my favorite items we ate. Next, we tried the seafood pancake. Overall, I enjoyed the pancake and there were many different types of seafood in it. The sides were fun to try! My favorites were the potatoes, fish cake, and kimchi. Lastly, we shared the Kaibi Dolsot Bibim Bap. This was really delicious and I would definitely recommend it. It was definitely helpful going with someone who has been before to help guide us on what items to get, especially since I'm a little pickier when it comes to venturing out to new foods.

Yelp
I have been eating at this restaurant since I was 5 years old -- that's 30 years. They have some of the same waitresses still working there today. It continues to be the best Korean joint around (even living in Chicago with all our options for the same). Do yourself a favor, treat yourself, and order basically anything off the menu. Order especially bulgogi or spicy pork bulgogi (I like to have them cook it in-kitchen vs. at-table DIY, but up to you) -- make sure to ask for some gochujang to go with the meat. Enjoy the delicious ban chan and ask for extra pickled daikon radish like a pro.

Yelp
I came back a week later, this time got the larger dinner portion...yet again it was exceptional!
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Overall solid place. We were bummed that they were too short staffed to have sushi (not sure if this is permanent?). However the dishes we had were solid. I had the Bibim Bap and my husband had the Tong Kalbi. All of the sides were great. Needs a bit of updating inside as well but overall solid neighborhood spot.

Yelp
Really good Korean food. This is a mom and pop shop and the restaurant owners and staff is amazing. The service is so friendly and world class. I would definitely recommend everyone come here to try this restaurant! Everything I had was delicious but the service was top level.

Terrie F.

Yelp
We saw the reviews with pictures loaded with meat and had to try it. This place is authentic and delicious. The service was great. We were on vacation and had to bring our young teen kids. The servers had a good time engaging our kids and encouraging them to try new things. It was the BEST food we had in a week in Phoenix.

Yelp
This restaurant has really high ratings. My friend and I decided to try it. First, it's extremely overpriced! Like shockingly overpriced. The restaurant itself is not clean enough the food was meh,no sushi served at all, sushi bar complete shut down lights off and this was a Fri evening. I had even asked if they served it I was told no. While we were eating our dinner there were 2 large groups came in sat down and left both groups as soon as they opened the menu. I asked the server and she said "it was too expensive" ummm yes. But we both had been so hungry. So we gave it a try. For the money we paid we could have had a nice dinner definitely more upscale! In a much cleaner place. The meat was the highlight. We had ordered the dumpling soup and it just was not good at all. Broth was watery. The dumplings were extremely mushy. Not edible. I had also ordered the baby octopus. I'm pretty sure the deep frying really killed it. No flavor, chewy and not pleasant. I had told the server I couldn't eat it as it being overcooked and she stated it's always like this! She had not eaten any of it btw. I probably shouldn't have left 20% but I'm a kind person. I just would never go back or recommend to anyone. I came home and reading the reviews in depth I figured it out. Most of the excellent reviews must be the other restaurant in Tucson, because it does look phenomenal! I mean the excellent reviews are mentioning drinks, sushi and this one in Phoenix doesn't serve either. As well as I asked if they had a happy hour, server told me ,"as long as you're happy"!!! So there must be the confusion because Tucson restaurant does have an excellent happy hour. I wouldn't go back here even if they lowered the prices to half the amount or even less. Sorry but this is a BIG miss IMHO.

Yelp
Wonderful Korean food! The kimchi and banchans were fantastic! The meat was good quality and cooked to perfection. Everybody was so sweet. Probably the best Korean I've had in AZ.
google avatar

Brenna D.

Yelp
Went here to celebrate a birthday and the food was amazing and everyone had a great time!
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Jap Chae was delicious and I had the hot and spicy beef short rib soup. All the kimchi dishes came out too. Service was super amazing and fast. The ladies really take good care of you. The place has been here 27 years!!! A hidden little gem for sure. So delicious. Don't expect anything fancy, they haven't renovated once. It's all the original build and they no longer do sushi since the demtards hit us with COVID. Love this place and will come back!!!

Yelp
We did the tabletop Korean BBQ and loved every bite! Spicy pork had great flavor, not too hot at all.
google avatar

Melly T.

Yelp
Hole in the wall Korean restaurant that served authentic food. This is a no frills restaurant that serves Korean BBQ and others. Been there a couple of times for lunch with a large group. The owner was accommodating and had no problem with splitting up checks for 8-10 people in our group. As for the food, I ordered the spicy rice cakes with ramen and it was really good. Ive also tried the bimbimbap with beef which was also good.

Kyli S.

Yelp
so good! been going here forever, the food is authentic and so delicious! the staff are also super sweet and the food and wait time is great.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best Korean spots in town Small biz Not a corporate kbbq that seems to be moving in town So it's nice to go to a small biz joint Food is always tasty and on point Lunch has a great deal $ But if you want real Korean food not Americanized definitely try here

Robert S.

Yelp
Other than being in a sketchy part of town, the food, service and overall ambiance was both delicious and positive. I took my family to Takamatsu on Father's Day and everyone commented on how nice everything was. The inside of the restaurant is older, but is clean, and the savory odors coming from the kitchen were enough to make us even hungrier than we were prior to walking in the door. The waitstaff was spot on, being both friendly and attentive. That means a lot to any dining experience, in my opinion. The food was delicious! We all (party of four) ordered different menu items and were very pleased with how tasty each and every bite turned out to be. We will be returning to Takamatsu in the very near future.

Yelp
Nice little korean restaurant. It's very good place and everyone was very friendly. I am not very knowledgeable in this type of food as far as authentic flavor. Let me tell you... We tried ordering a variety of dishes and every single one was exemptional. I also was recommended that I try Soju and I am a fan of all of it. I highly recommend and will most definitely will be returning.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
I got the Bipi Map with mixed beef I believe? Regardless the service was almost too good, that I felt bad. Place has a nice vibe to come and chill with a group. But all the sides were definitely good & worth a try especially if you aren't acquainted to real Korean dishes.
google avatar

Alejandra G.

Yelp
Omg! My boyfriend told me he used to go here all the time as a kid and loved it. I was excited since I've never been to a grill Korean style restaurant. Bagogi (I might have spelled wrong) is what we each got, and holy cow this is my new favorite spot!!! The meat is so flavorful, and the sides are a fresh compliment! The server and owner checked on us and even showed us how to cook, I loved the atmosphere! Amazing 100/10

Lillian T.

Yelp
We had the kimchi stew and gyoza and it was delicious. Full of flavor. Will have to come back and try other dishes too! Service was great too, very nice server and they were quick.
google avatar

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Best service! Bester atmosphere! Amazing team full of the sweetest workers! Most definitely the place to be for Japanese and Korean food!! 10/10 recommend!!
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
I have been coming here since i was a child. Their food is great. I am super sad they don't currently have sushi and i hope that changes soon. Service is typical of an Asian spot. Even when you know the owner. Hahaha. Ambiance is also typical. My kids love Korean BBQ and doing it themselves. I love the hot stone dishes. Their Banchan is also A++.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Ordered a sake bomb and didn't realize my glass had lipstick still on it until after I poured my drink. Some qc on the cleaning practices would be nice.
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
My friends and I are often on a quest to find true mom and pop restaurant or hole in the walls and this really did it for us! They have Korean bbq booths but also other seating where you can order from a menu or ask them to cook the kbbq for you in the back if you don't want to grill it yourself. It has a lot of the go to Japanese and Korean meals you would expect, as well as a lot of authentic meals (I had a Korean tripe soup). The family running the restaurant was super friendly and genuine people. If you like Asian food and want a mom and pop experience, I'd give this place a go! I'll definitely have to come back!
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Korean locals know that Takamatsu is and has always been a great spot for AUTHENTIC Korean food. I'm thankful that Korean BBQ has popularized Korean food, but it's also convinced many new to Korean cuisine that KBBQ is the only form of Korean food (which is not true). Korean customers know to go to Takamatsu for delicious soups/stews, noodle dishes, and rice dishes. Their KBBQ is good but not their specialty (which is okay, that's not what they're known for anyways). Takamatsu is a staple Korean restaurant that stands its own in the West Valley, especially considering that many of these types of restaurants are mostly in the East Valley.

Amber A.

Yelp
This place was just what we wanted: something flavorful and satisfying but not heavy. The side dishes were good, great kimchi stew, and the dol sot bibimbap is excellent here. Friendly service too. The kimchi tasted homemade.

Lorie A.

Yelp
Delicious! We ordered the spicy pork and beef bul Golgi - that's probably not how you spell it lol with pot stickers and shrimp tempura. Everything was fresh and delicious. We are so happy to find an authentic Korean bbq place and not a chain. We will definitely be coming back from Surprise AZ.

Nalu R.

Yelp
Way too pricey for the low grade food. Horrible customer service. Try to explain to the owner regarding the policies and got rude remarks back. Aloha Oe to this dump.
google avatar

Quanisha M.

Yelp
So disappointed with this place. They first off need to update their website. Coworkers and I went here for lunch and they didn't have any sushi. Thing that got me is when I asked (after seeing it online) the lady had the nerve to tell me I was looking at a menu for the other location. Umm no ma'am I was looking at the one down the st from my job. Well anywho if you want Korean BBQ AND sushi DO NOT GO HERE. Needless to say we left and went to LongHorn which was BOMB!!! Lol
google avatar

Melody Joy T.

Yelp
Very authentic and delicious Korean and Japanese food. Service was really good and prompt. Everyone was so welcoming and kind. We ordered soup- soon du bu; mushroom and beef. It was the perfect flavor , savory and earthy. Beef was tender and the mushrooms were delicious. If you like tofu, definitely try it. We ordered chadol baeki and bulgogi for the grill options. The banchan/sides were fresh and tasty. My favorite sides were the kimchi, fish cake, and bean sprouts. But trust me, they were all good. The kids had miso soup and rice. I'll have to post another review with pictures next time. I was with family so I didn't have my phone nearby. If you want a family oriented and authentic experience, dine at Takamatsu.
google avatar

Shanise M.

Yelp
Overall a great, small-owned business! The food is authentic Japanese & Korean! Everything we had was full of flavor. The staff was very attentive & kind as well. Definitely recommend Takamatsu!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, great service. I was born and raised in Hawaii, and this restaurant reminds me of "home." The food here is as good if not better than the Korean/Japanese restaurants in Hawaii. And trust me, I've eaten at many great restaurants like this in Hawaii. The vibe inside makes me feel like I'm right in Honolulu at my favorite "mom & pop" restaurant. Friendly and cozy. This is now my FAVORITE go-to here in Glendale. Just a few minutes from where I live. Awesome!

Yelp
정말 맛있었어요!! 잘 먹었습니다! ~~ 이 식당은 제가 가장 좋아하는 식당이에요! 다시 올게요! 약속 할게요~~ Went here to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom and we both LOVED it!! It's a cute, small place but the food was delicious! Very authentic and it reminded me of my time in Korea! The 이모님's and the 사장님 were super sweet and such amazing service! So nice! This might be my go-to Korean restaurant!

Irene F.

Yelp
Service was top notch. We stayed because they spoke Korean and that usually means the food will be more authentic. My sister is a chef from Korea and it is hard to beat her flavor profiles. There's an expansive menu of authentic Korean foods. I had whole yellow tail that I didn't care for. I always order fish when I eat out, but wouldn't I order this again. It tasted to fishy for me and lacked other balancing flavors. I should have ordered the fish in chili sauce. We also had a hot pot with beef: seemed a bit heavy to me. I'm always looking for a balance of acid, fat, salt, and heat. I enjoyed the condiments with rice the most. They served kimchi, pickled sprouts, fish, potatoes, and a few more. I appreciated the freshness they added to the overall meal experience. Inside was a bit dated, could use a renovation.

stephanie c.

Yelp
Always delicious! Owner is so friendly and seems to be well known with other patrons . Bulgogi is bomb ! Love that they have Korean television playing . They also have a bigger, private area for parties

isabella m.

Yelp
I went during the lunch time and was really happy with the service. The staff were really nice and I got my food super fast. The meal was great and it came with a lot of sides, I honestly could have shared it all with someone. I took it to go but the restaurant looked cool inside and they had a lot of options while inside.
google avatar

ThucDan H.

Yelp
Best authentic asian food on the west side. It doesn't look like much and I've spent years just driving past this place, but it's truly a great food spot. My boyfriend and I got bibimbap and tofu soup, which is our go to at all Korean restaurants, and this place didn't let us down, both our dishes are delicious. The kimchi banchan was way too salty, I even got a second order of it hoping it wouldn't be so salty, but it was unfortunately the same, I won't take off a star We left Takamatsu spending 41 dollars not including tip, and I will say I have spent less for the same order at other korean restaurants. In any case, I highly recommend coming here if you're in the west side looking for a close by kbbq or just a hearty korean meal.

Yelp
I've been hearing raving reviews from my Asian food lover friends! I had to check it out! I'm always a bit concerned when restaurants have two different cuisine, like this place serves both Korean and Japanese. This is a gem you will find in Glendale for Korean food! I can't say about Japanese since I didn't try the Japanese food here. I was craving some Korean soup in the heat of AZ! But a Korean girl needs her Korean soup at times! The waitress was super friendly and suggested what soup to order, which was Yuk Gae Jang. So glad I got that because it really hit the spot! Good amount of heat and plenty of stuff inside the soup! It's not just the broth! Yuk Gae Jang includes egg, shredded beef, and assorted vegetables! I loved it! Naengmyun (Korean cold noodles) was just the right amount of chewiness and had Korean pears which added extra texture inside. Best naengmyun we've tried in AZ so far. Unfortunately they don't have any combos with the noodles but it was quite filling! A little disappointed in the amount of meat in the Kalbi dolsot bibimbab but the flavors were all great! The staff including the owner was super friendly and on top of everything! I highly recommend the Korean food here and I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. As a fellow Korean-American, I can vouch for the authenticity of the food. Some of you might like Sizzle, but they cannot hold a candle to the cuisine of Takamatsu. We always get Korean BBQ here, and all of the selections are terrific. Of course, you can't go wrong with Kalbi, but the others are excellent, too. For none BBQ eaters, try the various stews. Dumpling and rice cake soup, spicy beef soup, cold buckwheat noodle soup, and the black bean noodles are all staples. Ownership is very hospitable and the service is prompt. Don't be fooled by the location -- this is a gem, and if you are looking for real-deal Korean BBQ, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Terrible food, overpriced, overrated , would not go there again. We got too little food compared to other Korean bbqs and it was tough

Yelp
Takamatsu is located where the OG Ktown of AZ was. This restaurant still holds their quality when it comes to what Korean food is. From their quality meat cuts for Kbbq to their Bomb Jjigae. Me and my family have been coming here for nearly two decades. This is a must whenever I come into town. They are able to accommodate for large or small parties. Takamatsu will always hold a snug place in my heart. This has to be the first restaurant where I would come in alone and order Doenjang jjigae. They do have sushi options all quality. Whole establishment is up to par. Customer service has always been great. No complaintsI can't wait to come here again, eat some good food with my siblings and see the amazing staff. Don't worry they have a lot of in house made Ban Chan! Ah also if you want to cook kbbq at the grill yourself you can. They also can do if for you. YOU HAVE OPTIONS!! I'm excited for my next visit, I'm always jealous when my siblings come here and I hear about it. TAKAMATSU ~~~~~!!!~~~~~

Yelp
Oh man the Duk Mando Gook (K8: Dumpling Soup with Rice Cakes) was magnificent! A definite must have! It was beyond delicious, it was perfect, from the broth to the beef and vegetable dumplings to the rice cakes! (The rice cakes have that rice flour texture like mochi, just fyi.) We also ordered the Kaibi Dolsot Bibim Bap but we both agreed we've had better. The façade and interior is more in their traditional style which I liked. Now the restrooms smelled pretty bad, and they also need TLC and an upgrade. The place was packed and busy so the servers attention was thinned out and you could see they were a bit stressed but you could also see that they were trying their best. We also happened to see someone propose here (interesting choice).
google avatar

Carolyn M.

Yelp
Stopped in on here on a whim after seeing it while driving by and it's worth it. We did table top and it was delicious! Meats were excellent and the side dishes were the best I've had in The Valley. Highly recommend
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
We got the Bibim nengmyun (cold spicy noodles) + kalbi combo - good spice and sweetness of cold noodles - decent serving size of kalbi Kalbi dolsot bibimbap (stone pot rice) - mixed in some of the radish soup provided with this Seafood pancake - nice and crispy without being soaked in oil Overall authentic flavors but quite salty for all side dishes and bibim nengmyun. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
If you haven't been to Takamatsu, you are missing out. EAT HERE! OMG! So good! Get the Goat stew! Dbuk Bok Kee is to die for! House made Kimchee, and sides are so refreshing! Even the 4 yo likes it. Just be ready to bring you appetite and some friends to help eat it all.

Yelp
I've been here many times but it's been awhile since the last time. They have very comfortable booth seats with grills in the middle of tables for tabletop bbq. Service is fast and friendly. They also offer typical Japanese food including sushi which is excellent. We shared spicy fish soup (maeuntang) and squid with noodles (nakji somyun). The soups was excellent, spicy and hot, perfect for the winter months. The squid with noodles was excellent as well. The noodles were cooked perfectly and seasoned with drop of sesame oil. Mixed it and slurp it all up. Highly recommend. Enjoy.
