Take Care by Oleo may just have my favorite decaf latte in Kansas City, and I've tried a lot of lattes. Here, the focus on high-quality espresso is noticed. The taste of this decaf espresso is incredible. Be warned, though, if you want a sweet coffee, turn around at the door because this is a no frills type of coffee menu. The honey latte is balanced impeccably with subtle sweetness from natural honey paired with freshly packed and drawn espresso, which on its own is inherently bitter. Now, if you're an almond milk drinker like me, you won't find any here - they do have oat milk, though. On this trip, I pre-apologized to my tummy and went all natural with whole milk, and the creamy dreamy dairy swirled together with the shots of slightly sweetened espresso was the definition of a simple pleasure.
Also, the decor here is so well curated that it's like you are in part coffee shop part vintage Americana exhibit. Or, it's like the coolest flea market booth that also happens to serve coffee and pastries. The old wooden floors, the lunch counter style coffee counter, the different displays of old-time memobealia, the overalls proudly displayed on the wall... there isn't one thing I don't like here. Its clean as well as decorated at the same time, and it's not overdone but it's done right. Also, there's a patio that shares Grinders Crossroads courtyard so you can sip on your coffee and soak up some sun (and maybe if you're lucky catch a soundcheck).
Next time, I'm definitely getting the cheddar apple scone I spied because I adore a savory scone, and sometimes they can be hard to find! It looked scrumptious.
