Taku Asian Bistro restaurant

I’ve been here 2 times for dine in and 4 times for takeout. All times my experience was neither bad or good. Just regular customer service. Today I placed in order over the phone. I walked in to pay for my order once I got to the cash register I stated what I was picking up and she replied. Do you have cash? I said no, and she directly said afterwards, next time, bring cash. She stated usually if a bill is less than 15$ they won’t do it. This was never told to me and I think deliver upon that request could’ve been nicer. Me and my friends usually walk to this location because it’s very close to where we live, but will now go out of our way to find a place with better customer service. On a good note, food is usually good, but this spoiled my experience.

They are one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to!! We dined inside and the vibe was really cozy and peaceful. They have plenty of outdoor dining space and there’s a huge parking lot in the back. We ordered hibachi steak, chicken ramen, 100A roll, and Adelphi roll. Hibachi steak and ramen were alright, not too bad and nothing extraordinary. Ramen just felt like regular noodles to me. Sushi on the other hand was the best!! Totally loved it! I would definitely love to try the other rolls on their menu. Staff was super friendly and the service was quick. Their prices are also reasonable according to the portions. I’ll definitely recommend this place for sushi.

My boyfriend and I come here all the time. Although it's not big, it is very nice and clean with plenty of tables to dine in. The food is always great and fairly priced. The service is amazing. Everyone who works there is very kind. I truly recommend this place if you are in the area or an Adelphi student. As for rolls, the Adelphi roll, Redhead roll and 100A roll are delicious. Plenty of parking spots as well and the area is nice for a walk around.

Absolutely exceptional food and service. The sushi might be the best on all of Long Island.

My family and I took my father to a casual dinner here. We had been here once already and enjoyed it so much, we had to come back! Plenty of parking in the back. But back to the restaurant! The atmosphere is very relaxed. All kinds of people come in, from an old couple to a small group of four friends. I ordered something simple--the illusion salmon. But what I saw and ate was a delicious display of fresh salmon. The special dishes are extraordinarily beautiful! You have to check it out for yourself!

It's not as expensive as some other Sushi places in the neighborhood. The rolls are always great (particularly recommend the pink lady one it's delicious). They do take out as well.

The food was very fulfilling! Their beef teriyaki bento box was so yummy. The beef was cooked to perfection.

I've been here three times with three different groups of friends and they've all loved this place. I always get sushi however one person I went with didn't eat sushi, but he loved the General Tso's chicken. They have a great assortment and diversity of selections on their menu. Their sushi is very fresh, beautifully presented and melts in your mouth. There are plenty of cooked options as well for people who do not eat sushi. The ambience is nice with a smaller sized dining room, and the service is outstanding. It's nice because the servers are on top of your meal/order without being on top of your table. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back again.

My favorite sushi spot as of late! I am a big sushi/sashimi quality stickler and this place is by far the most consistently fresh and delicious with reasonable prices. Service is ridiculously fast and the employees are very nice. I can only speak on their raw fish, but I have heard good things about their Chinese fusion menu. Ambiance is typical Long Island (dated) "modern" Japanese look featuring blue hued lights and black leather booths. One of the walls of the restaurant features a blown up image of the Tokyo skyline so no matter where you sit you'll have a seat with a view. Outdoor seating is available, and since Taku is a little out of the way of where the main foot traffic of 7th street is, it's a bit more quiet. Great lunch or quick dinner spot that never disappoints!

I've been here twice- the first time I didn't care for it at all but the second time was a much better experience. The staff was friendly although the service a bit slow even thought it wasn't crowded. The decor is simple but modern. The food the second time around was much tastier. If you order the teriyaki ask for the sauce on the side - my salmon was drenched in it the first time, so I ordered some different dishes the second time around - much better.

Always delicious and fresh! Our go to sushi place in the Mineola/garden city area!! Great for take out-you can order online!

Amazing food! Some of the best hibachi I've ever tried and very affordable price. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The ambience inside is very nice and cozy. Our waitress was very nice and quick. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Delicious food. Always fresh. I have not been there since Covid but I always enjoyed ordering when at work. We all work from home now and it's not near me but I might just take the road trip it's that good.

Sushi is fresh and not skimpy as some sushi is when ordered for takeout. Loved the takeout bag/ kept other food hot and easy to carry. 4 stars not 5 because the sesame chicken was very dry! Otherwise really good sushi!!! Friendly service also

This place is really a gem! I was in the mood for Asian fusion. I was pretty anal about health scores pre covid but DEFINITELY now with restaurants in a hurry to open back up so that 91 health score . Plus This was one of the very few restaurants that didn't lose points for insects or rodents present !! So It was a no brainer for me! Found parking right in front and saw that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Chose outdoor. The inside is a bit too dark and small for my liking. I ordered a pear apple martini!! Sooo bomb! Veggie gyoza and veggie spring rolls. Both great. && shrimp and chicken hibachi with veggie fried rice!! Amazing!! Soo fresh! Chicken was still juicy- not dry like most hibachi places and the shrimp was deveined (Hallelujah) I came here around 6:30 and while it was very busy, service was still great. Got the chocolate molten cake and ice cream for dessert. Not as great as the entrees. Probably wouldn't order that again..it wasn't as warm and gooey meaty as I like i This is definitely my new go to spot when I want hibachi without the flames

The bento box were super delicious! Owner is very friendly! I love the hot sweet and sour soup. Beautiful atmosphere.

Definitely the best sushi in the area by far. The service is great every time and it's the freshest sushi you can get. Their hot entrees are delicious too. We dont got anywhere else for sushi!

Great food , excellent service, we ate outside so I can't comment on the inside . Our waitress was very nice and personable. Excellent Chinese and Japanese food. Would like to go again soon.

I was really looking forward to trying this place and supporting local Asian restaurants but our experience was so disappointing... Nabeyaki udon was the most flavorless noodle soup I've ever tasted. Literally some water with boiled vegetables and maybe a bit of salt? The vegetables in it aren't even the ones that are supposed to be served with this dish. It was so unauthentic and I've never had a worse bowl of noodle soup at a restaurant. Sushi was nothing to write home about. It's a busy restaurant that's frequented by locals but it was not what we expected at all.

Clean, PACKED, bright and friendly. I paid a good amount of money for excellent rolls although it was 1/2 the size of what i get by home for more $. I was surprised. Entryway is accessible, parking is a challenge. Spicy tuna and Spicy tuna with veggies rolls. There is outdoors and indoors seating on a safe street in a safe neighborhood.

Went a few Friday nights ago with the boys. One in my party is a pilot who has had sushi in many cities. He commented and I agreed that the sushi served was fresh and delicious. Will be back!

My sister brought me the Tom Yum soup.... This is my FAVOURITE! We came in here and sat down to eat pre covid and the soup has been living rent free in my mind for almost three years! I'm so glad to see Taku is still open and the soup is the exactly as amazing as I remember! Looking forward to going back to sit down and enjoy the ambiance next time. A pic of a takeout container could never do it justice...

Since I have yet to find a good sushi restaurant in my area, I have been wanting to visit Taku for a while. The vibe inside is nyc nightlife themed; it is very dark even for lunch. My sister and I both ordered lunch specials so they came with soup and salad. Best miso soup i've ever had and a typical delicious Asian salad. I ordered the 2 rolls of sushi lunch special- one California roll and one shrimp tempura roll. Both looked and tasted great. I really liked the size of the pieces of sushi, they were nice and small. My sister enjoyed the shrimp and eggplant with brown sauce. Very pleased with the service, presentation and food quality! Definitely my new sushi place!

Great little spot, parking in the back lot, can enter restaurant from back door as well in case it's inclement weather. It's got low lighting which makes for a nice date atmosphere. We sat outside and it was a quiet night with little foot traffic. The staff was attentive, accommodating and kind. The nigori sake came in an ice bucket to keep it chilled, they had toro which was very fresh. The rolls were not packed with a ton of rice which was great to see. I would come here again and try other rolls and even some cooked appetizers.

This review is long overdue. We've been frequenting this restaurant for a number of years, both for lunch and dinner, trying a variety of both cooked and sushi dishes. Everything we have eaten has been fresh and delicious , cooked to perfection, the fish so fresh it melts in your mouth. The service is extremely attentive and polite, and the owner always makes sure to say hello. Excellent establishment!

So i came back here to have dinner with my kids, i believe the owner or the manager a lady with heels and long black pony tail kept talking about me and my kids in her language and kept staring at me and my kids with her employees. Then she told me to becareful with my child because she will fall and she doesn't want her to fall off her high chair in a rude way. Lady this is my kid i wouldn't let me kid fall. Very rude and just the vibe was off won't be returning so sad especially because i liked the food

Fresh and delicious! Loved the food. Service was great as well. I'm a vegetarian, so only tried vegetarian food. Cold Saki was great and good quantity! Definitely coming back!

Intimate and romantic. Great mood lighting! Food was very good, and surprisingly reasonable prices! Full bar. Service needs improvement; it is polite and friendly, but a little scattered, inconsistent and inaccurate. Sushi is a big part of the menu. I'm not a sushi fan, but my husband had octopus roll and said it was excellent. In an effort to cut back a bit on carbs, I opted for shrimp teriyaki. So delicious! Big portion of fresh firm medium shrimp mixed with tiny broccoli florets. The sauce was divine. The side salad was amazing with the ginger dressing and mango strips. We also shared the calamari app, which was small. Big rings, slightly chewy, light breading, sweet chili sauce. 3 1/2 stars, rounding up due to above average food, charming atmosphere, and the calming presence of cheerful maneki Neko.

The food was mediocre. I was NOT expecting CHEESE in my salad at an Asian place! Yuck! (I'm a vegan). Lunch prices low.... but I don't think we'll be coming back. Rob eats ANYTHING and he couldn't even eat the General Chicken! Great soup though!

We love this place very comfortable atmosphere and great service and the food is delicious. Getting to be a regular spot.

$70 dollar sushi order and the rude lady who took my phone order started to argue with me over the soy sauce. packets. she told me that I would have o split 1 packet of soy sauce per 2 rolls . That is 3 packets of soy sauce for 6 rolls. I said I wanted more soy sauce and she argued in a rude way. Cancelled order and will never eat there again. Over priced , and rude staff. Garden city resident. PS the Orchid is better anyway.

My company has ordered food from them twice & I am in love! I've had the sweet & sour chicken & the noodles with beef. Delicious!!

I love this place! The serve is fantastic and the food is amazing! Highly recommended! We had the rolls in the pictures and they were great along with 4 udon soups. Highly recommended!

I wish I could give this place zero stars. The hostess was extremely rude and made us so uncomfortable we didn't even eat! We walked in and she asked how many, I said two. She didn't say anything else so I figured she was looking for a table or something. after a while of nothing being said I looked back to her ( as she was not near the front door but in the back near the bar area) I started to walk back where she was and she said "Can I Help You?!" as if I hadnt already answered her clearly! i repeated myself and she rolled her eyes and slammed two menus on the table. As we were sitting and looking at the menu we felt her looking at us. we looked up and she rolled her eyes again and continued talking to her friend. I would NEVER go here again or recommend this place. horrible attitude and representation of the establishment.

Decent asian fusion restaurant in town of Garden City with a variety of Chinese and Japanese options including sushi and sashimi. Pros: has online ordering (though credit card must be given over phone or in person), service is friendly and delivery was fast. Cons: food just ok and relatively pricey for just ok. We tried a chicken and mango entree, steamed shrimp dumplings and a sushi entree to taste a variety of items and while none were bad none were outstanding.

Solid suburb sushi, at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and nice, cool, clean dining area. Holds up just as well for takeout!

Sought this place out looking for a restaurant near mineola that could accommodate a group of 18 on a Saturday night. Super friendly upon making the reservation. The food was great (especially the sushi) and the presentation was miles above a lot of Asian fusion places without a higher price tag which I really appreciated. Overall I was very pleased and the staff was very helpful and patient. Shout out to Henry our waiter (I hope I'm remembering his name correctly)! Awesome guy with an awesome personality. I'm looking forward to going back just to have him again!

Really good! Went here for lunch today with my sis. I was just craving something really simple and light. I wasn't in the mood for fancy sushi so I just ordered shrimp/avocado naruto rolls and shumai. Pretty difficult order to mess up but I really enjoyed it. It's crazy dark inside so we had to sit by the window for some light. We noticed some other patrons asked to move as well. Overall, clean, pretty good and reasonable lunch prices. I would go back.

My daughter and I finally decided to try Taku Asian Bistro for a quick dinner. Dinner was perfect we were in and out in 30 minutes. I has a lychee martini with ketel one vodka and it was just right. My daughter had a lychee Japanese soda. I ordered three rolls they were all fresh and delicious. Can't wait to come back.

Hands down the best sushi/Japanese food I've ever had. The atmosphere, the service, the food is all amazing. I always order the California rolls and sesame chicken and wow, I haven't had anything better. I love coming here and everyone is so nice a friendly. I definitely recommend the sesame chicken!

I discovered Taku this afternoon ( it was recommended by a volunteer working at Garden City Library ) , after a long , busy weekend , and what a surprisingly pleasant discovery it was ! I know of no small restaurant this cozy , well designed , immaculate and attractive ; the owners have made the most of a long , narrow interior . Country music also provided a relaxing change from the blaring contemporary pop chosen by so many establishments today . Prices are very reasonable , and my shrimp and chicken with peanut sauce was delicious . This dish came with a generous portion of vegetables mixed in , making for a genuinely complete dinner . The charming owner and waitresses , all from Fujian , China, were exceptionally polite , attentive and cordial ; other restaurateurs could learn much from a visit to Taku . Did I leave anything out ?

As an avid sushi eater, I know when I'm enjoying fresh fish. Taku in Garden City, is one of those places. Though, the place isn't large, the ambiance is beautiful and the service is on point. (And on a warm day, outdoor seating!!) I ate with two of my friends, we shared edamame. I then tried and enjoyed one of the specials, the kumamoto oysters; $10 for 3... DELICIOUS. For an entree, I ordered the Spicy Lovers Roll, which housed all my two favorite fish (salmon & tuna) -- so good!! A friend (she's vegan), who was particularly satisfied with the eggplant appetizer, insisted I try a piece. Wow. Let's just say that upon my return, I will be ordering one for myself. In sum, if you're looking for great food and attentive service, you found your spot!!

The best sushi and Chinese food fusion in garden city. Everything is worth a try and I would recommend the Chirashi if you want a simple dish. Simple is always better. The ambience is superb and the owner is so friendly.

Unassuming, yet pretty good! Soup was very good, I wanted to try the Hot and Sour and glad that I did! The dressing for salad was perfect, with an added twist I haven't seen which was some Mango strips; a pleasant surprise, and rather then an Entree I had the Cervice. It was very good, clean and crisp flavors with some delicious edible garnishes such as thinly sliced Jalapeño... The decor is a bit blah, location is off the beaten path, and they must do something about that pressure pull which causes a terrible sound when people open the front door...but other than that I would highly suggest paying this little gem a visit!!!

Weak service, tasteless food, bad excuse for anything East Asian. I was really quite surprised by the absolute lack of taste in everything I ate. What's worse is they charge prices worthy of quality food. The food is passable if they charged 10 dollars or less but my "duck pad Thai" didn't even taste of duck and had pieces of unwanted chicken (which was scattered with more quantity than the duck itself!) swimming in this sugary tasteless red looking sauce. Disappointing

We were in the area and Yelped sushi. Taku was a great choice. We started off with hot and sour soup - savory and delish. Ordered some appetizers (Rock Shrimp was delish) and finished with fresh sushi and green tea fried ice cream. The service was great, the food delectable. Grey Goose Dirty martinis were not too shabby either. Next time we are in the area, we are heading to Taku.

Went to come here with my family, the food is great and the atmosphere is nice. As we were leaving, one of the staff men came up to my wife and yelled at her rudely in his own language (not English) for no reason I could think of. Also, while my brother was about to lift his mask from kissing his wife , the same man came around a second time and yelled at them for kissing! Is he supposed to kiss with a mask on ?! The man continued to be rude with us and we left no tip and walked out dissapointed... Next time we are ordering out. No one should be treated like this ever. Disgusting

There are a few restaurants in Garden City, NY that their dishes are excellently prepared. One of those restaurants is Taku Asian Bistro. We occasionally order from here. We always order the same things every time. We order some sushi rolls and some General Tso chicken. The service is very quick and food is always great. They do delivery and pickup services. I love the spicy salmon crunchy roll and the salmon mango roll. This restaurant is a MUST try!!

Been to this restaurant three times. Very fresh food. Was happy with their service but the shiitake mushroom roll was not good. Despite this, I will go back.

This is my son's favorite Japanese restaurant, and for good reason. Food is delicious, sushi is fresh, and the staff is very attentive. We love to sit outside and people watch when the weather is nice.
