best bagels in philly, no new-school bullshit

Google
Come to Talia’s if you’re looking for an amazing NJ/NY style bagel. The bagels are always fresh and are made by hand each morning. The other bagel places in the area just can’t compete with Talia’s. You also can’t go wrong with getting anything else on the menu. The baklava, tiramisu, muffins, gyros it doesn’t matter they’re all good. Plus, Doa and Adel are the best and I always love going in. Make sure to talk about soccer.

Josh DeGroote

Google
The owners are a so sweet. Mom and pop deli/bakery feel. Very NYC. Everything made in house fresh. I recommend the entire menu but I’ll specifically advocate for the cinnamon raisin walnut cream cheese and the whitefish salad with an everything bagel.

Caitlin Lange

Google
Very very nice owners, love the food. Went in for two bagels and the whitefish which my fiancee loves and Dooa had me try her homemade tiramisu which was delicious. I also love their rice pudding it’s the best I’ve ever had! Honorable mention: the cinnamon walnut spread is also great on their bagels. I didn’t want to spend too much going in but after everything ended up spending $40. You will get hustled into spending more money than you intend to - she’s a great business woman - but I swear it’s worth it 🤣

Google
This place is legit. I practically never, I do mean never give five stars to anything. This place has the best bagels and rice pudding in the city. Everything is homemade. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area. And that prices are quite reasonable for what you get.

Lydia Marasa-Scafidi

Google
Doaa is incredibly sweet and hospitable, overshadowed only by her incredible breakfast sandwiches, falafel, and baklava. These are the truest to bagels I got living in Brooklyn, and I love the addition of caraway in the everything bagel seasoning. Also, there's something I love about the texture the really fine diced veg gives the cream cheese. Definitely worth the stop in.

Google
Finally stopped in to try this bagel spot people rave about! It had some of the best customer service I’ve had in Philly, the owner was so kind. I got tuna salad on a sesame seed bagel, and the bagel was delicious. It was just crispy enough but still had some softness. It is a longer and flatter bagel, so it’s perfect for sandwiches as theres not too much bread. The tuna salad had sweet relish in it that I was OK with at first, but it ended up being too sweet for my liking. I would definitely come back to try other bagels and sandwiches, as well as the Baklava!

Google
Great place! Very delicious tiramisu and baklava! Very pleasant service! I recommend this place!

Google
I had an amazing experience at Talia’s! The owners treated me like family and the food was fantastic! I got a sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel with some sun-dried tomato cream cheese to top it all off (10/10). Home fries were fresh and I could tell everything was homemade! The icing on the cake was the tiramisu that Doa prepared for me, holy… cow… best tiramisu I’ve ever had. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you again for your hospitality! Philly needs more people like you!

Yelp
10/10 recommend!!! You won't find a better bagel in the area!!! Even at 2PM bagel tasted so fresh as if it was just made-unbelievable. My standards for bagels are very high growing up in NJ. The owners are from Brooklyn-if you know, you know....... You can tell that the Jalapeño cream cheese is made with real FRESH jalapeños. Save yourself the trouble of trying other bagel spots in philly-just go to Talia's! Last but not least-I am not a tiramisu person. I tried their homemade tiramisu on A whim and it changed my whole perspective on the dessert! Must try!!! *owners are super friendly-genuinely nice people!

Yelp
I think this spot was popular back in it's hay day. Present day, there's a lot of competition in the area. The place could benefit from a cosmetic uplift. I ordered a poppyseed bagel with olive cream cheese and a pumpernickel rye bagel with lox. My total was $15 which I found very steep. I ordered lox cream cheese, not actual lox slices. I usually ask for less cream cheese or cream cheese on the side but ordered as is. I am glad I did because there was barely any of the olive cream cheese. The bagels were also not cut properly, they were cut like 1/3 and 2/3 and not full cut. It made it difficult to pull apart while driving. The poppy bagel barely had any poppy seeds on it as well. I also entered asking what bagels there were and what flavors and was just pointed each time to look at the menu on the table. Near the end, the customer service warmed up which was personable. I struggle with review because I can see them struggling, hopefully my feedback can help with improving the space.

Yelp
Nice breakfast spot nestled amongst residential buildings. Loved the rice pudding and the owner allowed us to taste first before buying, she even said "if you don't like it, it's free." Obviously, we loved it. The bagels are authentic NY bagels with the owner from NY, having been a well known chef previously in NYC. It's a to go only spot, unfortunately, no eating in. Great mom & pop shop and we highly recommend!

Yelp
Best bagel in the city! I am moving out of the area soon and I am going to miss it so so much. Their sun-dried tomato cream cheese is actually insane. My partner and I made it a weekly ritual to come in on Sundays and get our onion bagels with sun-dried tomato cream cheese. Even though I love their bagels they are expensive! We are from Jersey so its worth it for a good bagel. They also do not have seating inside, its a to go sort of place. I recommend to all my friends to try it at least once, and the owners have always been super kind to us.

Yelp
The best bagels in Philly!! True NY style bagels - firm on the outside and light on the inside + the perfect bagel size. I've had wayyyy too many small, tough bagels here, so I'm really glad to have found Talia's. The owner and his wife are endearing and passionate about the food they serve. They gave me free samples of the strawberry, jalapeño, and sun dried tomato cream cheese - all were super good but let me tell you that the sun dried tomato one was so, so flavorful and delicious. Will be getting that next time I come by! Great experience :)

Yelp
Ribeye cheese steak sandwich is a brick of beef gyro meat. Zero to be desired. Lamb gyro is gold. Fries are industrial. Bagels (cream cheese!), muffins, and pastry are cool.

Yelp
I love these people. I've only known them for 24 hours and already. I feel more at home here that I do in my own freaking house lol. First of all, I haven't had a bagel this good since I used to live in Brooklyn. Second, all of the food is freaking fantastic. Third totally reasonably priced. Finally, these are some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. They treat everyone like family. I'm so glad I came in here. oh, then I should mention that they have some dead serious freaking tiramisu. I only meant to take one bite to taste it and then ate the whole thing. Absolutely delicious.

Yelp
One of the best falafels that I have ever had (and I've had quite a few). It is large and generous packed with garbanzo beans. The ambiance is minimal, just a few tables in front of the counter where you order your food from, but the food is fabulous and the owners are super kind and friendly. Check them out, you'll be glad you did.

Jamie G.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwiches in the area by far! Their bagels are unmatched. Service is always fast and friendly too
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
The most welcoming friendly little spot I've been to in a long time flavor in everything I had , tiramisu , beef gyro , the coffee A1 .... Coming back just for this...

Bryce G.

Yelp
You have to come here - the most friendly owners and great homemade foods & desserts. Beautiful place.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
AMAZING BAGELS!! NY style boiled bagels FRESH and not to mention sooo many delicious cream cheese options (I love the olive cream cheese). The owners are the kindest, most friendly couple who seem very committed to customer satisfaction. Feels really great to support a local, family owned business rather than a corporate chain. The homemade tiramisu and baklava are both heavenly, I don't even love tiramisu but the owners recipe blew me away!!!! 10/10! My new favorite spot

Yelp
Best bagels in Philly by a landslide, this is how it's done and the owners are so nice

Yelp
I was craving a bagel one morning when staying in Fishtown and after looking up a few places I decided to check out Talia's Grille. I'm so happy I did. The people who worked there were so sweet and the food was great. The bagels had a great texture and the cream cheese to bagel ratio was perfect (there's nothing worse than getting a bagel with a bad bagel:cream cheese ratio. We've all been there. You know what I mean.) I also grabbed an iced coffee (and, random, an order of tabouli) which I enjoyed as well. Go here! One thing to note (and I'm not sure if it's always like this, but just in case) - when you walk in, there are chairs set up a few feet from the door, blocking you from getting closer to the register. That's intentional and you should order from behind the chairs. They will take your order from across the room and walk up to you to give you your food and/or to take your payment.

Yelp
This place still has great bagel sandwiches. Loved their sesame bagel, and I asked for added hot sauce to my turkey sausage egg and cheese which was definitely a good move. The everything bagel wasn't overly covered in seeds and spices, which I prefer. With all the expensive bagel shops popping up, a $6 or $7 option here is a much needed service for those who want a good breakfast sandwich. Twas a light bagel with a good toasting on it. I'll be back soon!

Emily G.

Yelp
Rice pudding is soooo good. Service is great. family owned business and homemade food

Yelp
10/10 recc! Best bagel I've ever had, Adele & Doaa were some of the sweetest people ever. She gave me some samples of her amazing spreads and deserts. The tiramisu & baklava were amazing! Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Di S.

Yelp
Assortment of bagels, strawberry cream cheese, and rice pudding. The pudding was good but the cream cheese was a bit sweet for my taste.

Shastah H.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! I had been going here for a while for my morning bagel and coffee and the owners kept telling me to come for lunch some time... I'm SO GLAD I did. Against what I would normally order I got the falafel, shrimp with tomato and basil pasta, and the baklava with pistachios. All of it was amazing the shrimp were huge and the red sauce they came in was so good. The baklava was some of the best over ever had. Would rate 1000 stars if I could! And the husband and wife who run this are so kind to their customers, they appreciate every person who comes in the door

Yelp
This was SUCH a good spot to snag lunch. We got the lentil salad, a lamb gyro, and a tuna salad bagel with the works. It was all incredible! Portions fit the price, flavor is great, produce is fresh and the owners were incredibly kind to us. No seating indoors but if you can snag and go, it's a great option. Try it out, it's totally worth it!

Yelp
I got the lamb chops platter for pickup through Grubhub, and it tasted MAGNIFICENT. So much flavor, and cooked perfectly. Dressing on the side salad was zesty, spices on the lamb made it interesting. However, was a little disappointed by the portion size for the price of 17$. It only had to have about 1/2 cup of rice under the 3 mid-to-small-sized chops. And I was huuungry, so I easily finished it all and was still left wanting more. I also got the 12pc Thai wings, which tasted like brown sugar melted with red chilis, a little more sweet than I was expecting, but again, not a lot of meat on the wings. Maybe go for an extra side of fries (had some of my friend's, THE SEASONING WAS SO GOOD) or a 1lb salad if you're eating here and you're hungry.

Kalie W.

Yelp
amazing New York style bagels with a ton of delicious schmears!! the owners are so sweet and personable too. 10/10 experience
google avatar

Noel L.

Yelp
I came here based off of the reviews. Service was great and bagels were just ok. We ordered a poppyseed bagel with veggie spread and a cinnamon raisin bagel with the walnut raisin spread. We also purchased two peach flavored Snapple's. After my first sip I knew something was off as it had a peculiar taste (it had a minty aftertaste and was a bit fizzy like kombucha). After finding the expiration date of July 13th 2023 ..today is August 15th..I then also noticed that there is weird (mold ?) floating in my beverage. Not sure if I will be returning.
google avatar

Hajar L.

Yelp
Came here twice in one week and loved it!! I tried two different sandwiches and loved the turkey bacon SO MUCH. The bagel is fresh and perfectly soft and fluffy but crispy on the outside. The owners are so sweet as well!! Cant wait to be back over and over literally

Yelp
Have lived in Northern Liberties for 2 years and this is my go-to place for breakfast and lunch. Their whitefish salad is out of this world. Great mom and pop run shop with excellent food. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kendal K.

Yelp
Went in on a Saturday morning--pretty empty and no tables to sit at. Got a steak egg and cheese sandwich which was really great (wasn't chopped steak was just a piece of ribeye). Owners were very friendly. Will be back!

Yelp
Placed an online order for a bagel and coffee before my commute this morning and received a call from the restaurant confirming my order. When I arrived 10 minutes after my confirmed time, I was disappointed to find that my order was not ready. What was the point of calling me earlier to confirm the order if you're not going to make it until I get there? They are also not allowing customers inside due to COVID. So, I stood at the door and relayed my order to the staff to make my food. Thankfully, it did not take too long for my order to be prepared, as there was no one ahead of me. The nice lady went back and forth to collect my payment and to bring my food over to me as I waited at the door. They need to have a better system than this. Overall, the bagel and iced coffee were both good. I would recommend against mixing schmears unless you know they taste good together. There is also $10 minimum for credit card.
google avatar

Mina G.

Yelp
Honestly I give them my vote for best bagel in Philly. Big bagels, tasty chew and nice crunch. Only thing is you don't have all the exotic flavors others may offer but TOTALLY worth it in not dealing with douchy overpriced, over hyped places where you wait in line for over an hour. Pay and get your bagel right away like any normal shop. Owned by very friendly couple as well. Would definitely come again to try their other menu as well

Amie W.

Yelp
I ordered five $6 bagels with two eggs and selected beef bacon on all of them. There was an option to select beef bacon on all of them. I received all five bagels with eggs but no beef bacon on any of them :|
google avatar

Yelp
These are the best bagels in the neighborhood as far as I'm concerned! And the whitefish salad is also incredible. This is a no frills place owned and operated by nice, friendly, hardworking people who care about their customers. I will continue to patronize.

Veronica F.

Yelp
The food is amazing and in large portions. The staff are really nice and service is great. I would definitely recommend trying this place!
google avatar

Sabreen A.

Yelp
While the place doesn't look like much on the outside, Talia's Grille has delicious bagels and the service is very fast. The staff are nice and hardworking. We ordered two bagel sandwiches to go-- one with egg and turkey ham and the other with fresh turkey, cream cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Holly G.

Yelp
Woke up Sunday craving a good bagel. After scrolling through the list of places we settled on Talia's. Placed our order only to get a call saying they were out of onion bagels. Subbed in Salt. I love a good salt bagel but not as much onion. However these were tasty and just the right amount firm to soft. We order 4 so we could have for Monday, but these didn't see Monday morning. We noshed all day. As a side thought got an iced coffee. So good were they we reordered today and early enough to get the onion. Not sure what happened but the onion weren't as good. Maybe b/ c they were not NY Water bagels. Still good coffee.

Yelp
Love love this gem of a place. Honestly one of the top bagels in Philly and I don't say this lightly. It has a beautiful crust but soft pillowy texture inside. The people out front are so sweet and it is a truly small business owned by caring owners. Next step - I will have to try their entrees and desserts.
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
Best bagels in the city! Everything is super fresh and reasonably priced. Plus the owner is very nice and really cares about the quality of the food. Got a Turkey sandwich on a bagel and wanted to get it again the next day :)

Paul K.

Yelp
Run by truly kind people with a well-put-together menu. Terrific bagels, excellent turkey, an impressive array of take-home salads and two kinds of baklava. For those looking for some niche deli specialties, they have whitefish salad and smoked trout! Eat at Talia's as often as you can
google avatar

Chrissy B.

Yelp
If you want really good food this is the place to eat. The salads are really good, gyro's are Amazing, and the owners are the BEST people. They're very friendly and most sweetest people you'll meet. Their Greek Salad with grilled shrimp is my favorite by far. I love how they will accommodate you the best they can with your orders. The beet salad and baba guanoush is amazing! Have a sweet tooth? Try their tiramisu and baklava, so good...so so good. I have not been disappointed yet. You have to try their roasted vegetables over eggs, OMG..you'll have a full belly all morning till mid afternoon. The people and food are the best here. This is definitely a place you want to go to for good conversations and food.
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
Great neighborhood mom and pop spot with delicious NY style bagels. They're really generous with the spreads! Last time I was in, I was gifted with a bite of their freshly made tiramisu that was super tasty. This will be a consistent breakfast spot for me!
google avatar

Joanaa M.

Yelp
It was very tasteless, messy, ugly looking, soggy, not good at all! I hate writing bad reviews but this is constructive criticism
google avatar

Jamilette B.

Yelp
I'm not going to give them one star because their food is actually good, but I ordered on DoorDash today just like any other order and they decided to cancel. I called to find out what was going on, and they told me that DoorDash kept calling them saying that I was getting a refund on every order I've had with them, so they won't be taking my orders anymore since they're losing money. I told him that wasn't true, I only got a refund on the very first order I ever received them from because it was wrong & I'm not going to pay for a wrong order. He continued to go back-and-forth with me and I just told him to forget it, I won't buy from them anymore. They lost a customer in the most ridiculous way, good luck to them.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Owners are very friendly. Their bagels are delicious and filling -- I ordered the ham, egg, and cheese. Their baklava is easily the best I've had.
google avatar

Krina S.

Yelp
I haven't tried much from here but the bagels I've had are delicious! Talia's (named after the daughter of this mom and pop restaurant, who you can usually see playing around in the front) makes consistently fresh and yummy bagels. They also have a few cream cheeses to choose from (scallion is my favorite). The bagels and amount of cream cheese they give are also pretty hefty for the cost. The family is the sweetest!--I once came in at 4:45, not realizing until later that they had closed at 4 and forgotten to lock the door, and they didn't miss a beat in firing up the toaster to satisfy my random mid-afternoon bagel craving. Love this place!

Donna F.

Yelp
Everything here is authentic and excellent. I've only sat at the bar for food and beverage so can't speak to the dining room service but if you like Greek or Mediterranean food do not miss this place!
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
Excellent bagels, crispy crust and fluffy inside. I hope to try some more of their menu soon. Very friendly owners and convenient location. 4.5/5.0

Sarah S.

Yelp
I came in this morning with my brother to get breakfast and decided to add a tiramisu to my order. The tiramisu was the best I've ever had! It was so delicious! My egg sandwich was great, too! The owners were so helpful and nice! They made my brother and me feel like family. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Devin B.

Yelp
Great breakfast sandwiches and the sweetest family runs the place. Also do not forget to order the tiramisu it's homemade and AMAZING!
google avatar

Leann H.

Yelp
I would like to start this review by separating 3 things, the bagel itself, the preparation, and the cream cheese. The bagel- I got an everything bagel that looked huge and delicious! It was a bit doughy for my taste, and I prefer a bit more toppings of my everything bagels, but overall pretty good. 7/10 The preparation- I asked for my bagel toasted and watched the guy put it in the toaster, so imagine my disappointment when I go to eat it and it's raw. Not even remotely toasted. How did he pull it out of the toaster and cut it and not realize it wasn't hot or crispy? Also, the cream cheese, while there was a lot of it, was globbed in the middle. I would have liked for them to spread it. The cream cheese- I got jalapeño cream cheese. Now, I spent most of my morning trying to figure out exactly what I didn't like about it because, in theory, it should have been good. They make it themselves and literally just purée jalepenos and mix it with the cream cheese. However, something wasn't right about it. It tasted...off. Well, I figured it out! They leave the skin on! So the actual pepper and the skin have distinctly different flavors. The skin is more earthy of a taste and the insides more sweet. I think that when they purée it, they leave the skin on which gave it an odd flavor. Don't get me wrong, it tasted like a jalapeño, because it was, but it just wasn't very good. I'll be back to try other things because, like I said, the bagel itself was good, just undercooked with weird cream cheese. Maybe I'll update my review later with better results...
google avatar

Jeanne K.

Yelp
I live a few doors down and I've only just recently started ordering breakfast from them. The bagels are so fluffy and soft on the inside it's wonderful. And the fruit salad!! $6 for a good size and quality fruit. Yes please!!
google avatar

Rebecca N.

Yelp
Best bagels in town! I don't go anywhere else. The strawberry cream cheese is out of this world good. These new york style bagels hands down the best in Philly.
