Loving the vibes here! We got the batch brew and ice coffees after our market runs this morning and the ice cream really cool the heat down. Would recommend for anyone visiting the prahran area.

We came here for a coffee on the way into town. Greeted by the super positive and happy Lia, we ordered a few coffees and had to decide where to sit. There is seating outside in the sun, in the courtyard or in the store. The coffee came out in not too much time and was delicious. There is a tram stop not too far and I recommend people to visit. Thank you Lia and all the team! 😊

Truly exceptional customer service, delectable food, bright & beautiful space, great location. :) (honestly the best muesli I’ve had in Melbourne— the rhubarb jam was insatiable!)

Stopped by Tall Timber after a run on ANZAC Day as they were the only place open near us – and we were blown away! 😍 Not only did they accommodate a group of 15 of us (plus a dog) with ease, but the space out the back was the most beautiful, tranquil courtyard and giant table with a veggie garden in the middle. 🌱 We ordered a bunch of different drinks – long blacks were great, oat lattes galore, even a berry smoothie, and the iced matches tasted as pretty as they looked. Also tried a cookie which was to-die-for and perfect as a post-run snack. Awesome friendly service – staff kept our water topped up and let us split the bill for our individual coffee orders, which can be annoying. We even got offered a loyalty card to be stamped. Will definitely be back for more coffees and brunch! 🫶

I wish I had looked at the reviews before I went here. $30 for an overcooked omelette. Looked pretty but not tasty!

We dropped in conveniently for a munch break during our nearby op shop adventures—and were blown away by the food! We ordered the chilli scramble and French toast, and both were fantastic. While the names of the dishes may sound basic, the flavours were anything but. Each plate had depth and a variety of elements that came together perfectly. The service was also excellent. Most importantly, the conversations and memories made here were peak 🥰. Highly recommend!

$17.32 for two coffees. Waited 45 minutes for the food order that never arrived. They forgot to put the order through to the kitchen. No offer to give us the coffees for free, nothing. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but can safely say we’ll never be back.

A cute cafe with a cozy vibe and delicious brunch options. The food was not only tasty but also beautifully presented. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a lovely meal! Generous serving sizes as well.

A friend from home who lived in MEL said this was her favorite cafe in the city and mmmm was it delicious! Just missed the big brunch rush (got there around 2) for a perfect late lunch. The Timber folded eggs were delicious, light and fluffy and quite filling! With a very healthy heap of goat cheese on top! Added the smoked salmon and it was just as delicious, and a good portion size. The service was very quick. Cool cafe and decor, very open and bright light!

Finally made it to Tall Timber, the long lines have always been a bit of a deterrent. Service was a bit slow but the staff were lovely, I could tell they were slammed. The food was good and generous, coffee wasn't really to my liking as I felt it was a bit weak. The smoothies seem to be a hit though as some of the other customers were really happy with theirs.

I sought out some new breakfast venues when I was in Melbourne recently and given I was staying in South Yarra I had bookmarked a few along Commercial Road. Sunday morning feeling fairly fragile from my Grand Final celebrations on Saturday I ventured along the leafy streets of Toorak in search of something great for breakfast. I had decided on Tall Timber but wasn't sure if I may have to wait given the amount of reviews on here. After a very short wait seating was on a communal table but there was plenty of room and the space in the front area is large and airy, there is also back courtyard seating and street seating avaliable. The breakfast/brunch menu is extensive and it was really hard to decide what to have. It is made more difficult by the constant stream of Timber Benedict dishes (a take on eggs benedict with slow cooked shoulder pork and apple hollandaise sauce which looked amazing) passing by. Eventually I settled for the Roast Pumpkin Bruschetta and a Soy Latte. I could not fault the breakfast I had here, it was outstanding - my eggs were poached perfectly and the pumpkin, dukkah and hummus that accompanied the eggs completely complimented each other - the flavours of this dish were outstanding. My only regret is that I couldn't pack this cafe into my suitcase and take it back to Perth! My breakfast/brunch highlight on my recent trip to Melbourne and I will definitely return on my next trip to Melbourne.

Well shit! This place was a-mazimg! Good range of fare for the healthy eating low carb conscious person... I had sautéed cauliflower and it was brilliant. We're here for a week and I may just go back again it's that good. Coffee also good. Yes.

It was the Queen's birthday holiday and what better way to celebrate with an authentic Melbourne cafe with modern Australian fare. It's an interesting space filled with minimal, but substantive character. The service was friendly and pretty fast given how popular it was. So many good looking items on the menu. We went for beef brisket tacos. Not your mamasita's tacos, but very tasty and three were plenty for me with no room leftover. Okay for kids, but mainly for adults. Ours found good stuff to eat with a fizzy, fruit drink - how can you complain? Scratch that. Kids will complain about anything. Coffee is Duke's and does Mel proud. I'd like to get back to try a few of the other dishes.

Our order was a smashed avocado on quinoa loaf and the oat porridge. For drinks, we ordered a hot chocolate and a freshly squeezed orange juice. The porridge was topped with pistachio nuts, edible flower petals, rhubarb and blueberries. It was light, hearty, nice and warming on a cold, rainy, winter's day. It was delicious. No qualms about it. The hot chocolate arrived a bit cold. Nothin special. The smashed avocado was a lovely mixture of flavours with the goat cheese, beetroot hummus, and a sort of dukkah. It was a great combination of flavours and a very filling dish. The quinoa loaf was a lovely touch. Quite nice. Not too grainy. It was just right. The orange juice was light and naturally sweet. Just the right amount of pulp. Just lovely. Overall, a very nice meal. Worth the price. I hear their coffees are good, though we didn't try any.

Coffee, third time unlucky, had better elsewhere and definitely won't be back for a caffeine fix! The Timber Bennie has never been the same since the original owners moved on which is unfortunate when someone comes in a changes the successful model the business opened with!

It's always such a joy when I find another decent café to enjoy brunch at. I am proud to say that I can add Tall Timber to that list. We enjoyed breakfast here one gorgeous Autumn Wednesday morning. I had Cured salmon with poached eggs, smashed peas, beetroot relish, feta & house made baguette croutons and my friend enjoyed the Tall Timber Benedict with slow cooked pork shoulder, poached eggs & apple cider hollandaise. Both meals were super delicious. I liked how mine was fresh and full of flavour and you can never go wrong with good pulled pork! The only fault I have to share is that the coffee wasn't up to my 'Melbourne snobbery' standard. I liked the space the venue is in and the great location too.

This place is a very popular cafe situated between Chapel and Punt on Commercial Road. On moving to the neighbourhood, our neighbours gave us this place as a tip and it does seem to have a good local following. Unfortunately, it's a victim of its own success. Arrive here at any time other than off-peak hours and you'll find somewhere quite noisy and bustling with people excusing each other to get by. The staff are lovely and very helpful, and the place is tastefully decorated. It's clear that care goes into it, but ultimately - as a customer - you're there for the experience, and long queues/wait times + noise = you could do better. The coffee is good if you're on the go, but not worth the sacrifice to the ambience.

Second time around was just as good as the first. Great atmosphere, menu and food quality is excellent, coffee very good. Staff are friendly and not pretentious. If you don't mind a bit of Prahran people watching, then definitely check it out. I will be back.

Lovely atmosphere, people, coffee and food! My entire breakfast was made with extra care when I told them about my gluten allergy. They made sure there wasn't any cross contamination for me! Great coffee, great food and great people!

Food - 5 stars Service - 3 stars Coffee - 3 stars The food here is phenomenal, and everything we ordered was perfectly crafted. We were seated quickly but then ignored for quite a long time, and we couldn't even manage to get a water refill during the hour that we were there. The staff were friendly, but the cafe was not busy and they were not very attentive at all. As mentioned in other reviews, the coffee is okay for Melbourne standards. My latte was fine, but my boyfriend's short black was extracted poorly, and it wasn't very good. The barista was much busier than the rest of the staff on the floor, but the steam wand and some pitchers were dirty and covered with caked-on milk. (Common sight at many cafes, but not ones serving "specialty" food and coffee.)

I went for breakfast and got the beaky board. Yum yum yum, a small amount of avo smash, hummus, fruit and granola and a oj (which they kindly changed for tea. One once every other times they've said no) perfect breakfast with loads of flavour. Place is very loud inside but it worth it. I'll be back! :)

The second visit by luck of grace was a repeat of the first. Fail. -----06 Nov, 2013----- Bad bad bad. Bad service, boring food, and the tall male barista made AWFUL coffee.

April 11th.2016 @12:30pm. An awesome experience! If organic, fresh, tantilising taste for food is your thing. Get to Tall Timber. Variant offerings like apricot And chocolate coffee brews. To Ginger Ninja drinks. All the offerings are sure to please! My choice today: Smashed Avocado. Its the crunch in the nuts, the flavour of creamed beetroot, the feta from Mildura, and the wholesome grain in the toasted bread that hit off the "smashed avocado" in meal which made me crave it more! Exceptional and delightful for a great meal! Also a high note for this place is great STAFF AND FOOD CONSIDERATIONS!! I BELIEVE TALL TIMBER has the best customer service I've experienced in MELBOURNE!!! IN never before this time!!! TALL TIMBER IS SPOT ON WITH SERVICE AND UNDERSTANDING!!!

The place looks amazing and had a very inviting decor. However I find the set up to pay very awkward and always seem to get into people's way. The coffee is solid but not outstanding. A great place to show off to your friends!

For months I have driven by this place, my nose squished against the window, watching the packed tables and queues and thinking I HAVE to try that place out. Well today I did. It was a freezing, winter morning but we opted to sit outside because an inside table was a 40minute minimum wait - and we were hungry! Let me just start by saying that this is not really a cafe for kids. There is nothing specifically on the menu for them and it's all a bit too 'fancy' for the average kid. Mine are seasoned cafe goers and ended up only having toast. (They did have the porridge but didn't like it. I thought it was a bit too creamy and yoghurt like too actually). However hubby and I had trouble deciding what we would have for completely different reasons - there were so many interesting choices! I ended up having the pumpkin bruschetta which was delicious and filling and my husband had a kale and asparagus dish which also looked delicious. He wolved it down so quick I was only able to sneak a small bite! The coffee was also excellent, very smooth. Price - $22 for meal and coffee. Will definitely be back, but maybe when it's hotter, with no kids and not on a weekend!

Always busy with locals and employees from nearby businesses, once you discover this place, it will become your local too! Usually only have time to grab a takeaway baguette, pastry and hot drink, which have all been superb! The display cabinet on the counter boasts mouth watering treats, and protein balls for the slightly more health conscious. Today I managed to fit in a sit down brunch. Service was perfect; friendly and timely. The menu was so appetising it was difficult to narrow down to a single choice. I had the Tall Timber Benedict, which arrived as two slices of toast, a mound of extremely delicious pulled pork (crunchy and delicious in some spots and perfectly pulled softness in others), two poached to perfection eggs, covered in apple cider hollandaise with shreds of apple. My partner had the salmon breakfast, salmon, smashed peas, beetroot relish, and toast. He reported it as the biggest breakfast he had ever eaten and equally as delicious! If your the indecisive sort they offer a breakfast board of eggs on toast and muskie - this appeared to be a very popular choice! There is nothing that detracts from our experience. Indoor and outdoor seating available. We sat in a rear courtyard on a rectangular bench surrounding a garden bed, the best place to be on a sunny day! If you try it once I'm sure you would be back for more!

Tall Timber has a lovely fit out. It's spacious, yet warm and inviting. Larger than Station St Trading Co, but no doubt will get just as busy when word gets out. The menu has a bit of everything, from your traditional items to things a bit different. Lunch is pretty much off the chain, this area doesn't have a lot of options like this and Tall Timber over delivers. I spied someone attempt the pork brioche and it was a monster! I had a humble breaky option of avocado on pumpkin loaf and it was fantastic. My partner went for the lunch chicken option which I stole more than a few bites of too. For price, expect to pay around $20-$22 per head including coffee from a cheery and helpful barista.

Just because I like to leave things until late; and in this case, we're talking about two months after I first discovered this place, I'll write the review now. Damm it, I've been wanting to come/dine/visit here for ages now and after a long absence of discovery I've finally made it down. In what hopes to be a return to yelping and of course writing, Tall timber shall make this entrance. As for information regarding this premise you can find it in previous reviews. I am a little baffled upon entering; it's mid afternoon on a week day, and it strikes me that Tall timber is uncomfortably busy and popular at these times. Either too many people are taking long and exorbitant lunch breaks or there's a lot of people not at work when they're supposed to be. In any case, this lunch and breakfast spot, is luring people in from a productive day at the office. Nevertheless TT is and seems like and good excuse for a day off, or to call in sick. There's a cool and I'm pretty sure custom built communal table housing little pots of herbs as well as an evergreen shrub. It's an open light filled space inside. The cassoulet here is simply amazing; I'm pretty sure it's in it's own league. It pretty much knocked my socks off and it's been a while since I've been this impressed with a single dish. It's absolutely magnificent; pulled pork and chorizo comes creamy soft feta cheese. Food bliss! On the table too sits a bunch of jams; blood orange, strawberry, and raspberry from out yarra valley way. A la marrocco espresso machine produces a great long black, and notably too other great coffees. It's no wonder this place is buzzing with excitement and popularity. It's grand. Can someone please tell me that I can have a life time supply of the aforementioned cassoulet? It's so damm awesome that I'm still raving about it. Prompt, attentive, caring service. They also sell retail coffee beans to take home, which are on the darker side of the roast. It's a house blend, but superb for $13.

Ohhhh, this place makes me happy! A gorgeous interior and lovely outdoor space - lots of happy puppies sitting with their owners. We were seated outside without a wait, and spent some time perusing the menu. If you're getting a little tired of the typical breakfast fare, I highly recommend taking a trip to Tall Timber. My partner ordered the pulled pork (and loved it), while I had a delicious mix of pumpkin bread with beetroot relish, smashed avocado, hummus and a poached egg; served on a cute little wooden board. The coffee was also top-notch. The prices here are absolutely fantastic; less that many other places throughout Melbourne. We had to wait a while for my partner's long black (I think we were forgotten), but that's a completely forgivable offense in my book!

Such a fan of Tall Timber! I ordered the sauteed kale and asparagus dish with almonds, dukkah, poached eggs and quinoa bread. Such a flavour bomb and so nourishing and filling. I found the staff friendly and efficient and they all seemed really familiar with the food so they could answer a couple of questions I had. There are some delicious cookie sandwiches in their cake cabinet - I tried nutella as well as the honeycomb one (I had a healthy main course, right!?) and these were like a macaron on steroids, very good! Great coffee, sensational food, buzzing atmosphere, awesome building and furniture...I'll definitely be back here.

I made good on my promise to check-out Tall Timber for a second time. I'm beginning to truly LOVE this place! The staff we've encountered have been, in a word, fantastic! Twice I've been here and have never had anything less than a friendly wait staff handling our orders. It's not a wonder why this place is always hoppin'! My partner ordered the Brekky Board (1 poached egg on pumpkin loaf w/smashed avocado, muesli w/natural yoghurt & fresh berries, and small, fresh-squeezed orange juice; A$14.50); I went with the Cured Salmon Gravlax (w/2 poached eggs, smashed peas, beetroot relish, feta, micro-greens, and house-made baguette crotons w/an herb/caper oil drizzle; A$16.50). The Brekky Board looked very healthy and attractive. My partner said it was great. My cured salmon dish was sensational! The cured salmon must've had a long curing process, because it had a fine salty kick, and didn't have any of that fishy smell or aftertaste. The smashed peas were super fresh and more like finely chopped, as opposed to mashed. (And I'm not really big on peas.) Even the beetroot relish -- I normally HATE beetroot! -- was a terrific complement to the entire course. If there was any downside, it would be that I wish I had more of that amazing herb/caper oil; however, I'm learning to temper my gluttony, so it was perfecto-mundo...! I can't wait for another morning to arrive, so that I can run over here for breakfast...! (The lunch menu looks fabulous, as well; so maybe that'll be next....) :D

Tall Timber - love this place. Such a great, friendly and attentive staff. They have outdoor seating and always welcome our pooch. The coffee is always good and the food offerings are fresh, delicious and plentiful portions. The brekky board is one of my favorite offerings. The fresh squeezed orange juice, the awesome toasted muesli with fresh berries, berry yoghurt and skim milk, pumpkin toast with hummus, guacamole and poached egg. What something a little more carnivorous? Try their signature Tall Timer Benedict made with slow-roasted pulled pork. A dish you can not go wrong with. Come early to avoid the wait.

A good place in the neighborhood, adding a bit more variety to the lack of trendy restos on Commercial Road. Nice for Sunday brunch. Good coffee, varied selection of food, and a relaxed and laid back vibe. Nice mix of local diners.

Not a fan. Have been there twice and was disappointed on both occasions. Last time (Sunday 26/06) staff treated us like we should feel privileged to be there (rather than the other way round) and they forgot one of the meals. Good coffee though.

This has become my local while living in Prahran... The coffee is always 10/10 with baristas that know what they're doing :) The food is very good and always fresh, very well presented and has amazing aesthetic appeal. All the baked foods are made on premises and if your a muffin fan theirs have to be tried!! My only negative feedback would be a little pricey for what you get food wise and sometimes leave feeling a bit hungry... But i love my food!! Deff worth checking out

My favourite breakfast/brunch spot at the moment - well worth the 20-40min wait to get in. Friendly staff, amazing coffee, and the dishes have been designed well . My wife and I have started working our way through the menu...

Finally made it to the new local cafe after being discouraged by the crazy line stringing out the door and on to the street. Melbourne's wet and wintery weather obviously discouraged the punters, and let us walk straight in and take a seat. We were served promptly, but from there the attentive service dropped off. Both the food (Smashed Avo) and coffee was great though & the choices on the menu definitely to my taste, meaning I'll be back for more. They should add a poached egg to the Smashed Avo.

2nd time here and it didnt disappoint . Brought friends with me and they all agreed its a great place with food full of flavour and great fresh ingredients

Love the decor and the fresh herbs but great decor has to be matched with great food and Tall Timber has that in spades. I've eaten there twice now and the consistent service and quality will have me back over and over. The Portobello Mushrooms I had the last time were super yummy.

I had a breakfast so superlative that I looked up the definition of 'superlative' to make sure I used it right. I had the mushrooms on toast with goat's curd and toasted.mushrooms. It was exactly what I needed after a night shift. The coffee is always good here and the dining room is lovely. The service was attentive but not excessive. I went on a Saturday morning before the crowd arrived though and I hear it's busy. I never queue for breakfast but I would for tall timber if friends insisted. On a weekday morning it's a no brained.

I went to have brunch at Tall Timber last Saturday - i had read about in on Broadsheet, and was really excited to try it out. I LOVE Coin Laundry in Armadale, and these guys own both (recently sold Coin Laundry) so I had to get there asap. It was their first weekend and they were really busy, we had to wait about 20 mins which was ok. There's quite a bit of seating, both indoor and outdoor. Overall it had a really nice feel, the staff were friendly, inside was cosy, outdoor courtyard is cute with a massive table and little herbs spotted around the place. A couple of things happened which weren't ideal, however I think you can put them down to teething issues; we waited maybe 45mins for our food to arrive, and the servings were pretty small. I was happy with the size of mine, I got the beans & pulled pork which I think was the best on the table. One of the boys had the big brekky which wasn't very big at all, and another had baked eggs (some sort of capsicum / tomatoey base) which looked incredible - he said the taste was all there but it was far too small. Juice was delicious, coffee delicious. I have rated it as A-OK only because of the serving sizes relative to the cost, if you're paying $17 for breakfast these days you expect it to be a biggie / worth it. However, I will come back, because I don't think you can judge something fully on their first weekend. They have had HUGE success in Coin Laundry so I have faith that they will have success with Tall Timber too! (p.s. when I walked out I saw the smashed avo on pumpkin bread which gave me food envy).

Wow, gorgeous dishes at Tall Timber and I was having food envy of every meals that came out of that kitchen the whole time I was there for lunch. I had the cured trout and my lunch buddy had the pulled pork. Decor was nice and food was great, although I did find my trout dish a tad heavy ( oily, or what I'm not sure ) . the pulled pork had a surprisingly good chilli kick for a cafe dish. What I love at Tall Timber are presentation and creativity in the dishes. The miss here is service, our waitress was just a tad too blasé and lack some service sensibility Stacking chair over our head/ table whilst we were still eating is kinda a no no for me in the customer service world. Other things that were abrupt includes grabbing another customer's cup too abruptly and nearly knocking the water jug. Maybe it was a long day,but either way I had the impression that service here can be hit and miss in general. Depending on how the floor staff are feeling on the day. Lucky for Tall Timber, the food here is unusual, pretty, tasty and not your boring usual cafe fare.

I've experienced blasé to atrocious service on several occasions from separate waitresses at Tall Timber, which indicates to me it's a problem coming from the top. The last time I went the waitress tried to tell me I should't sit at a dirty table when I politely asked her for a menu (after sitting there for 8 minutes unattended). When I commented it was the only table left, she then told me I should have checked the courtyard (which I had and it was also full). I ask you, what kind of waitress thinks it's a good idea to critique a customer's choice of table? The food is delicious, luxuriant, nourishing and wholesome; I cannot recommend it highly enough. Coffee is very delicate and creamy; I generally prefer it with more body but can appreciate it for what it is. It's too bad the service is so off-putting.

After a near walk-away while we waited for a table (why would one wait while so many tables remain unsullied by patrons?) they recovered the situation and we were ushered to a table. Coffee arrived promptly, and it was good coffee! This was followed shortly after by our breakfast. The food was imaginative and well prepared using fresh ingredients, a long way ahead of the standard brekkie. Kudos to the chef. The environment is nicely relaxed and the service prompt. After an unpromising start, a great brekkie joint has been added to our list.

If your wait staff are going to be exceedingly pretentious and disrespectful to a local customer so badly, at least make sure the coffee isn't burnt. Perhaps stop focusing so much on getting a perfect blend and 5 different milk options when you can't get a simple latte right.

Awesome brekky and coffee. Some different healthy choices and generous serves! The staff are relaxed, whilst providing great service. The only downfall is that it can get rather busy on weekends! Although I guess you get that when it's great! :)

Headed in on a hot Melbourne Sunday morning around 10:30am. Just the lady and I. We were given a spot straight on one of the large indoor tables but these are big enough to be private. We couldn't hear anyone else's conversation which is always a risk on the tables. Food and coffee was reasonably quick. I had the timber Benedict. Pork shoulder with apple cider hollandaise. I wouldn't get it again, too sweet for my breakfast taste. The lady got the sauted kale and asparagus. Would def order this one again. Coffee was great. Tables came and went during the hour and a half we were there. Sometimes busy. Sometimes tables sat empty. Pot luck I guess. Would love to try one of the outdoor spots when I next go they look fun. We will be back.

Great service and food. Cool atmosphere. Can't wait to come back.
