We stayed at Villa Santai (Taman Sari Bali Resort & Spa) from 23rd to 25th December with our extended family, including elderly parents and a baby. Unfortunately, our stay was impacted by several serious issues, particularly relating to health, safety, and basic amenities.
On the second day, the power was cut off three times. The landline was also unavailable each time the power went off. As a result, I had to walk to reception repeatedly to report the issues.
The pathway to the reception area became slippery when wet, with water puddles along the way. The ground inside the villa was also slippery, which was especially challenging and unsafe in the dark when the lights were cut off. Given that some family members, including an elderly parent and a baby, were staying with us, this presented a serious health and safety risk.
Two of my nephews were sleeping on the second floor, and when the power went off in the evening, it was extremely dark. Combined with the slippery floors and ground conditions, this made the situation very hazardous for everyone.
The receptionist on duty that day was not very helpful. While I understand that these issues were not her fault, each time we raised concerns, all she could do was apologise without providing any practical solutions. Between myself, my nephew, and my partner, we went to reception multiple times without any clear resolution.
To make matters worse, according to the electrician, it appears that the owner or management team was already aware that Villa Santai has ongoing electrical issues. Despite this, the villa continues to be advertised and rented out. This gave the impression that profit was prioritised over guest health and safety. There also appeared to be a lack of clear communication between the electricians, as they were not fully aware of the ongoing problems. Thankfully, the last electrician was very kind and offered a temporary solution by staying at the villa until the issue was resolved.
Additionally, the stove was not working properly, and we had to follow up multiple times to have it fixed. Cooking together is an important bonding time for our family, so this was disappointing. There was also a lack of privacy in the bathroom, as no curtain was provided. A simple curtain would have allowed guests to use the bathroom with adequate privacy. Furthermore, the hot water was not working.
Despite all of these issues, no compensation was offered.
On a positive note, most of the staff were friendly, the location is great, and the villa itself was clean.
However, due to the safety concerns and the lack of effective support during our stay, we were left feeling disappointed and stressed rather than relaxed.
