One of the icons of Mombasa’s fine-dining scene and part of the acclaimed Tamarind Group. Expensive? Yes — but it more than makes up for it with its beautiful ambience and exceptionally delicious food. After all, fine dining isn’t an everyday affair, and when you’re on holiday, it’s worth it.
We were served by Washington — who jokingly introduced himself as Denzel Washington 😊 — and he was excellent, offering spot-on recommendations for both food and drinks.
Starters included the smoked carpaccio (smoked beef slices with fennel, cucumber, mango, pickled ginger, capers, and truffled avocado) and a comforting cream of tomato soup.
For main courses, we ordered:
• Catch of the day — grilled red snapper in a chilli garlic sauce, served with coconut rice
• Seafood laksa — a generous and flavorful combination of lobster, prawns, crab, calamari, octopus, and fish in a coconut, ginger, galangal, and lime broth, also served with coconut rice
• Grilled chicken breast — topped with the restaurant’s signature piri-piri butter or ukwaju sauce and served on creamed spinach
Every dish was mouth-watering and beautifully executed. Everything paired perfectly with a glass of Argentinian Malbec (Septima Malbec), rounding off a truly memorable dining experience.
