Tamarindo Beach

Saw 5 different turtles, huge schools of fish, barracuda, ghost jellies, and a Ray. Bezos yacht was within sight so that should tell you everything you need to know. If it’s good enough for a billionaire….cmon.

One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to. The sunsets were immaculate and vibes were spectacular. Really great spot to rent a surfboard ($10 USD/day) and go surfing, especially early in the morning or sometime in the evening. It was very hard to leave and go back to the winter cold in Canada. One thing I found strange and great was tourist would leave their belongings on the beach to go for a dip, and none of their belongings would get stolen.

You can snorkel in this beach. Just have to watch out for sea urchins as you're entering the water. We did not see any turtles on our visit but was advised that if you want to see turtles you should go in the morning before 10:00 a.m. because they feed during that time and go dormant the rest of the time. We snorkeled and saw a couple of rays and even an eagle ray. There's a lot of sea grass here and a water gets pretty deep

Found this place super relaxing . Flamenco was quite crowded but this beach was very welcoming and saw amazing sea turtles while snorkeling!

This is the place where my soul finds peace. There are other beautiful beaches but Tamerindo is where I learned to snorkel and it gave me a whole incredible world just beneath the water. It feels like a long and faithful friend.

The best place to go snorkeling to see fish reefs and turtles. The water is warm and not deep. It's beautiful.

Amazing place to see turtles. From the landing we swam left at about a 45 degree and found turtles in about 20' of water in the sea grass. Seen some massive barracuda out there and no sharks. You do get pretty far out but have to be careful for the currents. It is a very long swim so if your a beginner take floats or a life jacket. You should have fins on

Compared to other beaches, this one is more private, but for sure you need to prepare more to come here. We didn't rent a car or a golf cart, we waited a long time to get a taxi. People who came here are mostly families who are prepared. Cooler, chairs, umbrellas. We did see some turtles and it is safe to snorkel. I think it is a good place to do a second dip.

This is a nice beach. This is a good family beach. It has good snorkeling and is good for kayaking. In fact, you can rent kayaks here, no need to bring your own. Nearby is a structure with the Puerto Rican flag painted on its front. It makes for a good photo op.

Another beach I. The top five I have ever been to. This is a huge snorkeling beach , although we didn't snorkel , we went to watch the sunset ,, so peaceful , lots and life and coral all over the beach ,, you could walk along that beach for days on end and see something new every 30 minutes

This beach is mainly for those who wish to snorkel or kayak. And there were quite a few groups of people doing so. There was a guy with a stand renting equipment $5 for a mask, $5 for a snorkel,& $5 for life presenter. There are no other facilities here. The beach is long, and narrow, and also covered with black pebbles and the water's edge is very rocky. Hard to walk here...and not the easiest place to just swim. On the other hand, it's the only beach on island that we've seen that has shells -- tons of them -- microscopic conchs, and bits of interesting coral pieces. And yes, there are some tamarind trees.

The beauty of some things can be very hard to capture in a photograph. This was certainly the case at Playa Tamarindo. While the place doesn't look too special from the surface, underwater is another story. The reefs at the Luis Peña Chanel natural reserve are filled with life, visible from the surface due to the water's natural clear state. While snorkeling, I came across tons of different species of colorful, beautiful fishes, sea urchins, polyps, octopus, and even a shy sea turtle, peeking from its shell. What an experience! I definitely felt like I was swimming in a life size (but much more beautiful) aquarium. I wish I were able to bring an underwater camera to capture the beauty of life on the reef. It's a great spot for snorkeling, and the best part is that you don't have to be in deep water. It's perfect for families too. What an experience! A helpful tip is that if you don't want to pay for an expensive tour, rent snorkeling gear from the shop right across the ferry. It is very affordable at $15 per day for a mask and fins, and $22/day for a mask, fine, and a vest.

A local recommended that we checked out this beach for snorkeling, so we rented some gear here and snorkeled away. It was my very first snorkeling experience and although I didn't go too far out, it was amazing! The water is clear :) So many schools of fish and fish of different shapes, sizes, and colors!! I heard if go further out to the left, you could see sea turtles! It's kind of a hassle to get here. My boyfriend and I were walking from Flamenco Beach when a couple with a golf cart offered to give us a ride. On the way back, a shuttle bus drove by and picked us up.. LOL. Sure, you can walk from one beach to the other, but it is HOT and I wouldn't recommend it. There are no restrooms nor stalls here. There's not much sandy beachy area, just a few feet before it goes to pebbles and then the ocean.

Went snorkeling off this beach as part of a tour and it was amazing! The guide said there are ten sea turtles near this beach (which are by the way, endangered), and we got to see two of them. There are also sting rays and amazing coral. Check out my pictures. We went here as part of the Aquafari Culebra tour with Kayak Puerto Rico and I recommend this unless you are into exploring yourself. This would be an amazing place to scuba. Wow!!! It don't get better than this, beautiful water , great snorkeling, peaceful, and clean, easy to get to.

*You can definitely go to Flamenco and Tamarindo Beach at the same day. But go to Tamarindo Beach FIRST because that's the peak hours of snorkeling and kayaking rentals. We took a shuttle bus from the ferry station (don't worry there are TONS of shuttle buses waiting around to get business) ~ most speak some English but watch out for the old guy that try to hustle your money. $3.00 for Flamenco, $5.00 for Tamarindo). We ended up in a shuttle with mostly Puerto Ricans and the old guy tried to hustle my $3.00. Taramind Beach - this beach is mostly for snorkeling because it's very deep and has coral reefs. There some renters with kayaks and snorkeling gear look for Angel -$15 for vests, flippers, snorkeling masks (if you have a ride already), $20 includes ride to and from Flamenco from ferry. Pros: Cute turtles Sting rays School of Fish a bench to sit on Cons: There aren't many shuttle buses that go to Tamarind beach. All of the buses are at Flamenco beach. Need a car or someone to look over your stuff so you can snorkel, there are no lockers there. sand is not as clean as Flamenco beach because of rocks and twigs. The road heading toward the Tamarind beach is VERY VERY narrow. Careful on driving there.

WOW! This is a must when visiting Culebra. We found out about swimming with the turtles 2 days before leaving Culebra and I'm so sad I didn't know about it earlier. We could've gone every single morning to swim with the turtles. But at least we did it twice and we will always remember this experience. I'm not sure if the turtles are there all year round but we went at the beginning of January (1/5/2016) and we found many turtles and it was a once in a lifetime experience. Beautiful beach, clear waters and amazing nature to discover.

This beach is the ignored step-child of Culebra island- and for no good reason. It's only about half a mile from Flamenco Beach and is totally walkable (although we still took a van). Tamarindo Beach is on the way to Flamenco and can be reached by making a left turn when you see the marsh area on the right and a building to your left. All of the shuttle buses that say they can take you to Flamenco, can also take you to Tamarindo. Just ask them! This beach is great for snorkeling. Not so great for lounging around because it's mostly a rocky shoreline with no sand. Water shoes are recommended. This is also a great beach because it is not nearly as popular and is pretty secluded. Even for a busy July 4th weekend, there were probably only a handful of people on the beach snorkeling with us. Flamenco on the other hand, was packed. Fittingly, this beach only has about 5 designated parking spots. There are some reefs nearby with cool plant life and fish. We also saw sea turtles and sting rays here feeding on the sea grass. Just be patient. All of the "guided" snorkeling tours stop here so you know it's a good spot. If you have your own gear, skip the tour and just do it yourself. I watched a nearby tour and all they did was go out towards the middle in a group and that was it. Bigger groups would more likely scare the turtles away anyway. Note, if you haven't caught on, this is not as commercialized as Flamenco. As such, there are not really any food options or stores or restrooms. There are a couple huts that rent out kayaks and probably snorkeling gear and that's about it. This is worth a couple of hours if you have time before or after heading to Flamenco.

My 14 year old brother and I went out into the surf on Boogie Boards and my brother got caught in a riptide and was taken out pretty far. I went out after him because he was panicking and isn't a strong swimmer. I had to drag him on his board with the riptide and swim sideways along the shore looking for a place where we could get away from the riptide and get back the the beach. A black lifeguard swims up on a surfboard and I told my brother to tell him in Spanish that we needed his help and to please help get my brother to shore. He just started yelling at us and refused to help. The last thing he said was "people die all the time out here. See you in the next life". I heard later his name is Jonathan Thompson. What a jerk. He was just going to watch us die. I finally got us over to some rocks and got us to shore after 15 minutes or so. Amazing lack of empathy from a lifeguard.

Tamarindo was a very pleasant surprise!! We rented snorkel gear at a shop in town and headed to Tamarindo on our last day. **There was a less expensive rental shop right on the beach so we would probably use that one next time** This was easily my favorite part of our trip, we saw all kinds of animals in the water! While swimming in the far corner of the Beach (away from the entrance you drive in on), we saw sting rays, turtles, starfish, and various types of fish. It was SO cool!!! We saw 5 turtles!

Corals! And more sea life! Loved loved loved snorkeling on this beach! To the right by the rocks was the best most beautiful snorkeling experience ever! Granted I am not a connoisseur on snorkeling but! I promise it is so worth it! I read somewhere that Flamenco Beach was the best spot to snorkel at and this one was second. I fully recommend it, trust me you will not be disappointed. My new motto is the rockier the better hahaha :)

This is a hidden gem in culebra, one of the locals recommend for us to go on our way to flamenco beach. This place is great for snorkeling, water is clear, you can see the fish and turtles. It's not crowded here bc it's somewhat hidden. You have to bring your own stuff because there's nothing there for your to rent, no one selling anything, not even a bathroom. No amenities. Definitely worth going

Don't know what else to say about this beach other than it almost makes a trip to Culebra worth it. I didn't see any turtles while snorkeling but I did see a few bobbing up and down here and there. Very cute. The sands are ok but the fun here is really in the water. Bring some goggles and swim around!

I will never forget my first time snorkeling in Puerto Rico, it was one of the most difficult things for me to do. I cannot wait to pass on my Will power to my boyfriend so he to as well tries it next time we go on vacation. This hidden rocky beach was filled with giant turtles, stingrays and all other type of cool sea creatures I'm so glad we went.

Swam with sea turtles here and had the entire beach to ourselves. Paradise.

Loved it... Saw 5 sea turtles in 2 hours. That alone deserves 5 star for me. Almost no waves. Not a great spot for snorkeling if you are looking for beautiful fish and coral reefs. But if you are after sea turtles, this is the spot. Look for sea grass areas, and you will find one easily. Fins are recommended to follow the turtles. They are fast.

First, there are no amenities like restrooms, snack bars, or showers...this is just an FYI! This beach is perfect for snorkeling and R&R. There are lots of trees to provide shade and hang your towels up. There's usually someone renting snorkel gear on the beach (cash only), or you can bring your own. The water is calm and it's not too windy on this side of the island. It is a great place to watch the sunset but BRING BUG SPRAY! The mosquitoes are relentless. As for snorkeling, I the water is pretty clear and I saw some neat fish here. If you're facing the water, off to the left is where I saw two sea turtles and a big sting ray. The turtles like to munch on the sea grass. I was able to swim down near the turtle and the turtles didn't mind our presence (just respect their space!). It was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Oh...do be cautious of the sea urchins on the rocky surface. It's pretty obvious where they're at, but a heads-up is always nice to have. I hope to return here in the future.

Snorkeling off this beach is great to the left, by the sea grass are the turtles.... and to the right is a great sea fan forest with lots of fish..... be careful of the sea urchins, they are everywhere.

This is a not miss beach for an easy way to see the turtles. It can get a bit over crowded with the kayaking companies as the beach area is not that large. We went to Melones beach which has a reef system in full color, shallow, and easy to swim. Carlos Rasirao was a bit more challenging dramatic coral formations huge schools of fish, but a not miss location. Stop by a local dive/snorkel shop for directions & conditions on all locations. We used Culebra Snorkeling and Dive Center and they made our vacation as we spent 5 of 7 days in the water.
