Tired of American food, the place is a gem! They have fried rice, curry rice, oyako-don other than ramens, which are all good as well as ramens. As a Japanese, I always feel like home.

Good Japanese Ramen and Curry restaurant. Service and prices are good based on the area. I enjoyed the starter eggplant and pepper with pork. The curry is very well made somehow perfect for me. The Tonkotsu Ramen can have a slightly thicker soup but overall is good. Probably would come back for other ramen or rice options.

Tamaya holds a special place in my life, filled with countless memories and stories. As a piano teacher, when I was younger and pregnant with my daughter, I spent my weekends traveling to my students’ homes for lessons. During lunch breaks, my favorite thing was to enjoy a steaming bowl of ramen at Tamaya all by myself. Time flies, and now my daughter is in her twenties. Like me, she has explored various ramen restaurants, but her favorite remains Tamaya. Among the many dishes we’ve tried, we both love the Shoyu Ramen, no meat, less salt, and sometimes with a flavored egg. The noodles are always cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of chew, and the broth is light yet full of flavor. Paired with their amazing cabbage and pork-filled gyoza, we both agree that the simplest dishes often showcase a restaurant’s true craftsmanship. I’ve visited Japan nine times, and my favorite experience is walking to a ramen place at night, savoring the unique charm that only Japan can offer. Tamaya, with its cozy, family-like atmosphere, often transports me back to those cherished moments in Japan. It’s no wonder I’ve introduced all my family, friends, and colleagues to what I believe is the most authentic and delicious ramen in Los Angeles. The staff—Masa, Kiyo, and Masumi—are incredibly friendly, always welcoming us with warm smiles and exceptional service that makes the experience even more special. Thank you for being there and letting your ramen bring such comfort and joy to our lives!

Google
Ordered Pork Cutlet Curry and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Dining area was small but otherwise pleasant and spaced out well. The miso soup left some to be desired but definitely not among the worst I've had! All in all a great little hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant that I'll definitely revisit in future with friends.

Pretty good food at inexpensive prices! Came here on a Sunday at noon with family and it was a good time.

Google
Our go-to authentic Japanese restaurant for 10 years :) I love the atmotsphere, cleanliness, staff and of course the food, everything of the restaurant. This is the one of the rare place that I feel like being my home country. Since they're very popular, dinner time is always crowded and you'll have to wait but it's always worth the wait and they handle it very smoothly and politely. I recommend arriving earlier like 6pm for dinner. I also do togo and it's wrapped very neat at any times.

The ramen was very tasty and had lots of toppings, and the broth was rich and flavorful but not too heavy. The mini katsu don on the side was perfect and made for a good combo. The flavors soaked into the rice underneath and was super yummy!

Google
Kind of a hole in the wall, but I love this place. I've gotten their karaage which are giant chunks of chicken which are juicy and crispy. The spicy beef ramen is an irresistible umami bomb, the hiyashi is perfect refreshing dish for a hot day, and the katsudon reminds me of home. You can't go wrong eating here 😋

Finally tried this place! Just wow!! Absolutely everything we had was delicious. It all comes out super fresh and piping hot so be careful, just wait a bit before digging in. Had the OyakoDon, probably the best one Ive had, the side salad and miso were both really tasty. MY SISTER LOVES CURRY and this Pork Cutlet Curry is up there for her and me too. Just an FYI they only have pork cutlet no chicken. Speaking of chicken OMG the Karage 🤤🤤🤤 it was so tender and juicy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside served with a side of spicy mayo, you must try this one!!! Dont sleep on the Gyoza either, great flavor and also served with spicy dipping soy sauce i believe. Can't wait to try more from their menu 🤤🥘🍲🥗🥣🍗🥟💕

Yelp
We had a great meal at Tamaya recently. We ordered a bunch of items for the 3 of us. Portions were generous. Service was fast. Food tasted fresh and well prepared. Tables were turned over relatively quickly. Staff assisted patrons with smiles on their faces. Always a plus when this happens at Asian restaurants. Ian demolished his fried rice (Add on $7.00)and Katsu ($9.30). I polished my karage ($7.50) and soup ($16.75) with ease due to their delicious flavors. Mrs. loved her vegetable broth ($14.50). We recommend this restaurant for your Ramen fix!!

Yelp
Two adults and one child went to dinner on a Friday night at Tamaya, a Japanese Ramen restaurant inside the same plaza as 85 degrees bakery in Hacienda Heights, California. Kotteri Tonkotsu: best ramen here Kotteri Spicy beef ramen: if you like beef and slightly mild spiciness, more like hint of spicy in the soup. Mini bowl katsudon: $7 add on sweet katsu with egg and rice! This Japanese Ramen spot has been around for a long time and it's a small ramen shop. Service is quick as there is one waitress handling everything. The food tastes good and portions are generous.

Yelp
Great spot near home when you're looking for something hot and soupy. Just an fyi, the rice used in the musubi, inari, and any other sushi like item is not sushi rice. This works for me as I don't like vinegar, but if you're not expecting regular rice, it can be a surprise. Service is always great, but it gets busy fast.

Joe M.

Yelp
My favorite is Chanpon. My wife's favorite is Kotteri Beef Ramen. Appetizer is Gyoza and Karaage or Teriyaki Chicken... This is out Go to place for Ramen. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Best miso noodle in Hacienda Heights. They are a little thirty with the meat servings. Overall great taste and great service.

Supardi D.

Yelp
Was surprise with long line for late lunch. This place has been here for long time. Small place so will have long waiting if they have long waitlist. Service quite fast. Food was hit and missed the last time we came here. Kids love their homemade Gyoza. The Tsukemen dipping ramen using the same broth of Tonkatsu. Al dente ramen with good chasu. The Oyako Don tasted great. Same sauce with Katsu Don. Overall, food was good.

Yelp
There once was a Tamaya on Main Street in Alhambra...maybe at least 10 years or more ago. We used to frequent the location due to proximity to home, varied menu and tasty food, especially their gyoza. Sadly, the location closed and was replaced with another restaurant. We heard that there was a location in Hacienda Heights but since we are never in that area, we've never been...until recently. It's located in a very busy shopping center off Colima Road...neighbors include Ranch 99 and Daiso, as well as other local and national businesses. Finally getting inside, we noticed that the vibe kinda felt the same...along with the color scheme and decor. The menu was extensive and I kept changing my mind on what to order. They also still have their "monthly special" which is a ramen + a mini chicken teriyaki bowl. I feel their menu has expanded and seems more exciting...there's a little bit of something for everyone. I finally opted for their clam ramen since it seemed "different" and I haven't seen it anywhere except Japan (maybe I'm not looking hard enough around here). We also shared an order of gyoza, which I'm happy to say tastes the same as before...crispy and juicy! It was pretty busy during lunch and they seemed to do a lot of takeout orders. Every table was full and the staff was handling everything very efficiently. I would go back if in the area to try some other items. I'm glad it's still around! Good food, fast service, reasonable prices...what's not to like?

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute Japanese ramen house in Hacienda Heights, and I'm glad I did! We visited around 6pm and there were only a few people. An hour later, the restaurant was full. It's a small, quiet restaurant with a cozy atmosphere located inside a shopping plaza. Parking is free. We ordered the Kotteri Tonkotsu ramen, takoyaki, and chashu roasted pork. All were tasty and very well- seasoned. Service was slow as there were only 2 servers at the time attending to all customers and to-go orders. They were nice and got our order quickly; but since they were so busy, they're unable to check on customers on water refill, etc. Price was reasonable. They can only split the bill into 2 credit cards per table. Overall, Tamaya is a good place to visit if you're craving ramen and Japanese appetizers. Will be back ;)

Tina P.

Yelp
I really like their handmade chicken dumplings. I also like their Kotteri Tonkotsu ramen. The broth is very rich, I could not tell until I did take out. It comes with chasu, a boiled egg, beansprout, seaeweed and some bamboo I believe. Their fried rice is delicious too!

Lorraine T.

Yelp
The ramen was so good, broth is soft and meaty but not where salt or any sauces needed to spice it up. The noodles were thin yet great enough to not be too much but it was so good! The service was great as well as they continued to make sure my nephew and I were taken care of. Great spot !

Ray

Yelp
The atmosphere is usually calm when I go and the workers are nice ! I always go here for the tonkotsu ramen and will always go again!

Hannah D.

Yelp
Our OG ramen place to go if we crave for something cozy to eat on fall and winter time. Friendly staff as well.

Cori R.

Yelp
They have very tasty food and their service is quick. Restaurant is clean . I always order tonkatsu ramen and gyoza. I love it

Lani G.

Yelp
Solid ramen in Hacienda Heights strip mall of all places! This is our family's new favorite ramen spot. I love tonkotsu ramen, but a lot of places that used to be great are no longer as good. At a lot of places we used to frequent, the chashu pork got paper thin or they are charging for each topping so you end up with a $25+ ramen. I am sooo happy we found Tamaya. The kotteri ramen I ordered was amazing and it came with two half eggs, instead of just one like everywhere else. The broth was just so good. I had to order extra noodles because my 6 year old (who ordered another dish) wanted ramen as well. They gave me a huge portion of extra noodles that were cooked perfectly al dente. The prices are so good here and the servers are soooo kind. This place is very kid friendly. This restaurant is small so we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table even though we went at an off hour. But it was fine, there is a huge Daiso in a few shops down. I can't wait to try the other ramen on the menu.

Victoria G.

Yelp
Great food and service also the prices were really good fir what we ate. I definitely recommend it

Chelsea S.

Yelp
Food is ok, not bad but not great either. Very down the middle. We got the kotteri tonkotsu and the miso one, both were pretty decent. The pork in the ramen is very tender tho and tasty. Not a bad spot to go to if you're in the area.

Stella Y.

Yelp
They are small so there would be a wait if you go during prime time I think closing at 830p is quite early especially weekend (Fri-sun) Food is delicious though

Jamie A.

Yelp
This establishment a delicious flavorful ramen, good portion. Friendly service. The quality of the food is consistent. Pricing is fair. Highly recommended.

Benson K.

Yelp
My wife and I had plans to see a movie in City of Industry, and we are always craving Japanese food. We saw this interesting Japanese restaurant, and we decided to come stop by. Tamaya had chanpon ramen, and when we see chanpon on a menu we always make it a point to try it. I hadn't had katsudon in quite a while, so I got the katsudon set meal, which came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup and salad were fairly standard Japanese restaurant fare. The katsudon was super amazing. The rice portion was super generous. The tonkatsu was juicy and the sauce was classic donburi sauce. The chanpon was absolutely amazing, and contained clams, fish cake, shrimp, and vegetables. The broth was super rich. My wife and I both loved the chanpon ramen, a classic Nagasaki staple noodle dish. This was an amazing restaurant, one I can see myself visiting time and time again.

Yelp
When you see a line waiting outside at the end of lunch, you know you're in the right place. Tamaya is an authentic ramen mom and pop restaurant known for their consistency in taste and quality. It's nestled in a packed plaza that includes Daiso, 85 degrees, and Delicious Food Corner, so expect that it can be crowded. After a five minute wait outside at the table, we gave our order and were immediately seated inside, which is a blessing given the small space in the restaurant. Expect you'll be a bit cozy with the people at the next table. We ordered the kotteri spicy beef ramen and the special -shoyu ramen and spam roll. The favorite out of the two was definitely the kotteri - the broth had amazing depth and tremendous flavor. The beef was sliced thin and tender. The portion was on the lighter side. It also came with a whole seasoned egg, which topped off a perfect bowl of ramen. Shoyu ramen was so amazingly good too, broth is on the lighter side. Whatever you choose, I guarantee you will be slurping whatever is left in the bowl. Such a great local place, always consistent and satisfying!!!

Sunnie K.

Yelp
Authentic Japanese style ramen restaurant. Of course they have other menus but they specialize in ramen and noodles menus. Rich flavorful seafood broth in champone, Tonkatsu ramen and curry ramens were all delicious with good portions. And the friendly staff which is hard to find these days.

Gloria M.

Yelp
The food here is the best. Tried so many different ramen places and no one is close to this place. My favorite is the spicy beef ramen #5 spicy with extra veggies and meat yummy

Sole C.

Yelp
This is actually my first time eating ramen. The broth was tasty and filling of veggies. It had enough beef and noodles. The atmosphere was mostly quiet

Kaylyn R.

Yelp
Small Japanese restaurant located in a large plaza with lots of parking available. Yummy, authentic Japanese food and very friendly service! The menu has a wide variety of Japanese dishes ranging from ramen to rice bowls (katsudon, etc). The food came out quick and hot. The gyoza is made fresh here and is so yummy, I definitely recommend it as an appetizer. Its crispy on the outside and warm and juicy on the inside. I got the large katsudon and it came with a small salad and miso soup. The portion was so big and filling, definitely worth the price. The katsu was tender and yummy. The katsudon is a bit plain compared to other places because this one has just egg and katsu, nothing else. But its still delicious regardless. The ramen was ok, nothing spectacular but isn't bad. Its super "home-styled ramen". Which is good if you're looking for the classic ramen.

Jennipher C.

Yelp
We came here because our regular ramen spot was way too packed. There is a sign in sheet outside the restaurant. The wait at the time we went was about 30 mins, so it wasn't too bad. The restaurant itself is not too big but it's clean and they can accommodate different party sizes. I ordered the koterri tonkatsu. This is my go-to ramen anywhere I go. The broth was the perfect amount of creaminess and had a great flavor. The noodles, egg, and pork were cooked perfectly. I only wish it came with a fish cake, but it was really good ramen overall. It doesn't take a long time for your food to come out either. The service was great and I look forward to coming back. This may be our new ramen spot!

Cecilia H.

Yelp
I would give this place a solid 3.5. This is a Japanese mom and pop run restaurant that serves a variety of Japanese cuisine. They mainly focus on ramen and rice dishes. I saw they they had curry and I wanted to try that. I'm a huge fan of tsukemen but I didn't order it because I feel like I would be let down because the standard is tsujita and nothing will ever beat tsujita! I saw a group order their plate of gyozas and they looked so good! I had to order a plate! They are homemade and fried nicely. I would rate that a 5/5 on the gyoza. The curry however was disappointing. There was no spice level asked and the pork cutlet was dry. I would give it a 2/5. This place is probably more known for ramen so I'll have to give the ramen a try in the future. Now with covid, they don't give anyone a menu anymore. Everyone has to order outside in the front of the restaurant- take out or dine in. It was a little weird standing there rather than sitting down to look at the menu.

Bruce K.

Yelp
They need to consider "Hot tea" since they're charging for the tea where most authentic places provide tea for free as a courtesy to their customers.

Daniel R.

Yelp
This place is super underrated for a ramen place in Rowland Heights, City of Industry, and especially Hacienda Heights! As soon as we arrived, the guy who worked as the server instantaneously greeted & got us seated. The place was a bit tiny but still comfortable & expect to wait if it's full. I ordered Chicken Karaage & Kotteri Tonkotsu, while my dad ordered Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. The lady that served the food also had a very good attitude to all the customers. Both the chicken dishes come with juicy & huge chunks of chicken & kudos for the crunchiness of the karaage, and it's cheaper than any other Japanese place that I've ever been. Here comes the ramen. The ramen came with a super thick & rich Tonkotsu broth, thick noodle, & huge amount of bean sprouts that I really enjoy it! I will definitely recommend this place & look forward to coming back here again!

Stephie L.

Yelp
I've been a regular customer here for years but today I came in here around 630 and there were 3 tables were empty the server asked us to write our name on the waitlist, we did and after we waited for 15 minutes the other party of 4 just walk straight in and the server just let them sit down right away. This service is ridiculously bad!!! I think this is my last time to come here to this restaurant!!!

isabella g.

Yelp
I love the food the ramen I'm pretty basic so I get the regular ramen and some there sooo good

Sharon H.

Yelp
Our favorite ramin shop! Very delicious and always fresh hot ramin.. highly recommend this place so yummy

Fan H.

Yelp
Miss Fatty loves ramen while Fatty is meh about it, so when Fatty says yes to raman, you bet Miss Fatty jumps on it. Tamaya in Hacienda Heights was a little spot in the same plaza as Daiso. The wait time for lunch could be long since it was small and popular. We ordered kotteir tonkotsu and kotteir spicy beef. We also ordered chicken karaage to share. We were very surprised with how tasty and different the both bowls were. We did favor the tonkotsu more compared to the spicy beef, but we agreed this raman shop was the best raman east of little Tokyo. The karaage was also great and moist. Overall, we were very pleased with our food. Service was good and attentive. We would go back for sure to try the rest of their menu, especially the gyoza.

Charlene Natalie Y.

Yelp
So far the best Authentic Japanese Taste . I highly recommend Tamaya. Check out chashu ramen too.

Casey T.

Yelp
Ordered my 11 y/o sister the beef teriyaki set, she had food poisoning. Diarrhea, throwing up and high fever. It was her first meal of the day. Never coming back.

Justin S.

Yelp
On a Tuesday evening, I had a craving for ramen. I elected for Tamaya, a location I had frequented multiple in the past (prior to developing a habit for writing Yelp reviews). Parking proved trivially easy to acquire in the plaza. The establishment's indoor seating was full, mostly due to reduced tables carried over from strict Covid health ordinance days. Some of those tables were now outdoors, so that's where I sat. Another holdover from strict Covid dining days was the store's policy to order first and then receive a table. I ordered the kotteri tonkotsu ramen ($13.75). As the menu indicates, this differs from the standard tonkotsu ramen that it has a richer broth. I confirmed upon first taste. No anemic, watery, or thin broth here. This rich, decadent broth is the defining factor of tonkotsu ramen. Additionally, 3pc chashu, seaweed, bamboo shoots, green onion, ginger, and 1 marinated egg topped the bowl. The egg's white was nicely stained with the marinade throughout (in some places, the marinade doesn't take as deeply, and the part of the egg white closest to the yolk is still white). To share with a friend that tagged along was a 6pc order of gyoza ($6.25). The filling seemed juicy and, more importantly, fresh. The wrapping also had a spring characteristic of either dumplings made in-house, or a quality supplier. Overall, Tamaya serves food rivalling that of what you can find in Little Tokyo. It's lasted more than a decade, and it's not difficult to see why.

Fred K.

Yelp
The only ramen place that serves Meat Lovers ramen (roasted chicken, pork and braised beef)! Love it!

C C.

Yelp
Clean, nice little traditional Japanese restaurant with the popular and inexpensive options like the big bowl champon, the 18pc dumplings, the fried chicken(the first and only restaurant I didn't find salty), and several other choices. This place has the feel of those local restaurants shown by YouTubers traveling to little Japanese towns, and prices are very firm to earth honest...I had to smile when I saw the prices had different values after the decimal, you'll understand when you see it.

Alden C.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a long time but I'm glad I did! Came here with a group of friends and we all enjoyed our food. I was glad to see they still have monthly specials so I ordered their July Special which included Shoyu ramen + Oyako Don. All their rice bowls have been great and this egg and chicken thigh bowl was no different. The shoyu ramen noodles were chewy and broth was light and tasty. It hot the spot and we will return whenever we get a ramen craving.

Kien How L.

Yelp
The most identical same taste from Osaka, Japan. I still remember the taste of the creamy & nutty Pork Cutlet Curry. It remember me on that trip. The trip is 14 days. Everyday in dinner I order this food. I just craving it. Wonderful!!! You all should try it. But missing one portion? The Japanese Pickled Ginger. Hope the owner can make this. I mark this restaurant as the most so far the best Pork Cutlet Curry I were ever tasted.

Hikari K.

Yelp
I usually eat at foo foo tei but that place is always so busy and hectic so my friends and I came down to re-try Tamaya since there was no wait. And honestly I'm glad I did. Last time I had Tamaya was years ago and I remember thinking it was just okay. This time, I was impressed by the improvement of their ramen! I got the kotteri spicy beef ramen and it was good! they gave you a whole seasoned egg, which not much places do anymore, and the beef was so tender. Waiter was very nice and overall I was satisfied. This might be my new to-go place for ramen since it's so convenient and less busy.

Michelle V.

Yelp
TAMAYA ! NEVER EVER FAILS ! I've been to tamaya over & over since I was a little girl & they EVER never fail to serve anything below average. Everything has perfect taste and the service is consistent and very friendly as always :))) I will always be a returning customer ;D

David L.

Yelp
Japanese comfort food. We love Tamaya! We go there at least once a month although it is a little bit out of our way but whenever were on the 60 freeway that's one of the places we always consider. Japanese owned and operated!! Tamaya has the best kaarage chicken!! The three sisters are all so great too!

Sheena M.

Yelp
Been to a lot of Ramen places and this is certainly the BEST!!! the flavor is authentic and definitely my family's number ONE ramen place.. we dont go to any other Ramen places, only TAMAYA.. excellent customer service as well

Gabriel T.

Yelp
One of my favorite newly discovered spots in City if Industry. Tamaya, this place is delicious. The service is always great and the food.. out of this world! The ramen is great here, but my absolute favorite food is the Katsu Don.. hands down. The rice, the eggs with onions, and the perfectly fried katsu! ::mouth waters:: I am also a huge fan of their Karaage Chicken. Beautifully fried little nuggets of yummy chicken bliss. They need a larger order of this for sure! Love supporting small businesses and Tamaya does it right every time. Try them out!

Nay D.

Yelp
We love Tamaya! They have delicious soup and fried rice! Their Kobe beef soup is the best!

Cassidy F.

Yelp
My favorite ramen place since I was a kid and I don't even like ramen!! This place has been open for so long and the quality and consistency never changed. My favorite thing to get here is the katsudon and the gyozas but all the ramen here is great as well. I believe for any of the ramen orders, you can add a small katsudon for $5/6. The katsudon is really really delicious, it's a must try!! Overall this place has the authenticity and the deliciousness you've been looking for. There's ample parking and the restaurant takes covid precautions! Service is also super sweet. Highly recommend!

Shun T.

Yelp
Ive been coming here for 10+ years. It's my favorite go to spot. Their katsu curry is amazing. The katsu is cooked to perfection. Their Tsukemen dipping noodle is my 2nd favorite and something everyone should try at least once. The ramen is traditional Japanese style and flavoring and truly authentic. This is Japanese owned and is one of the last few Japanese owned restaurants in this area. The waitresses are friendly and always helpful and quick. I love this place.

Krystal G.

Yelp
Great service, the food is amazing, everyone is so friendly! Such a nice cozy place with delicious food! Can't go wrong with what we you pick
