On the Grid : Tamboers Winkel

"Nestled between office buildings, you’ll find this little nook with plenty of character. Tamboers Winkel is the perfect place to stop by on a Wednesday evening, where they host local wine tasting events. Enjoy scrumptious breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week at their sunny outdoor tables. With the best chocolate brownies in the Mother City, we promise this spot will be calling your name each and every week." - Yellow Door Collective

"Cozy Dining at Tamboers Winkel Each time you enter the door at Tamboers Winkel, you feel like you're in for a treat. With its long wooden table and shelves stocked with local produce and wines, the style of the eatery is very European cafe meets farm kitchen. Think freshly baked bread, free-range eggs, pickled salads, cured meats, and more. Even if you don't have time to sit and dine, pop in one morning for one of Miriam's chocolate croissants and a coffee. Because this hyperlocal cafe seats less than 20 people, it can get quite busy on the weekends."

One of the warmest and most inviting spots in Cape Town. I find myself here every day. Tamboers Winkel is more than just a cafe; it’s a true neighborhood gathering place. With a menu that changes weekly, special evening deals, there’s always something new to discover. It’s a favorite local stop, where conversations flow naturally and you instantly feel part of the community. If you’re looking for an authentic local experience - whether it’s a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, delicious food, or simply a welcoming atmosphere - this is the place to be.

My favorite local cafe and morning stop. I love to swing by with the kitty and grab a flat white or kombucha, and sit and work for awhile and chat with the wonderful staff. Great wine tasting nights, coffee, pastries, and knowledgeable staff.

We come here every Friday after a cold swim. They offer beer 🍺 on tap. Which is nicer than nice. And awesome selection of wine 🍷. We have light snacks or a pizza 🍕 to share. Love this place

Nicest place in CPT- you can either grab coffee, great food, or glass of wine. Value for money is amazing. They have specials everyday of the week. Atmosphere is super welcoming

You don't have to wait for your birthday to get a slice of birthday cake! Awesome coffee spot with great staff, great food and wonderful atmosphere. We love it for an early morning start.

Absolute Gem of a coffee shop/ bar. Full marks across the board, the space is small but not cramped, walking in you get a feeling of finding a hidden treasure, as the space can only hold about one sprinter bus amount of people. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable and easy to talk to, and you can feel their passion for thier craft. The menu wether it is wine or coffee is very high quality and could recommend the whole thing ( the pretzel roll is my current favorite). A lovely offering of well priced wines as well ( make sure to pop in on a friday if you are a fan of surprise tastings ) would recommend to anyone going a date in town.

As a long-time resident of Cape Town, I often go out to eat and drink at restaurants all around the Cape. A surprisingly large number of establishments feel like they are not a genuine, professional business, but rather a fun side-gig being run by friends, for friends. This is exactly how we feel about this place. We came to this restaurant at 7:25 AM this morning, and ordered two fresh fruit juices. We were told that they are unable to make any juice, because they had run out of ingredients. At 7:25 AM in the morning! This is not the first time that we have had this experience at this particular place. It demonstrates a complete lack of professionalism and competence in managing the basics of a restaurant. It is impossible not to have sufficient ingredients to make juice first thing in the morning, if you have properly managed your stock levels. So, once again, a complete waste of time at another unprofessional Cape Town establishment.

Very good food. It especially hit the spot after a day of hiking. They were all out of gnocchi, but didn’t hesitate to whip up a fresh batch for my wife. Only took 30 minutes. Near the top of Kloof Street, it’s a good place to start a pub crawl through Kloof and Bree st.
