The hotel is beautiful-quiet and so clean. The staff are amazing and help out with everything you request. We also enjoyed eating at the restaurant-many different options. They also arranged a tour for us which was flawless and well worth it and also arranged the next leg of our trip which was by boat to Jaco. The manager actually drove us to the beach where the boat was picking us up and carried our suitcase to the boat. This was a very interesting experience and went through perfectly. All in all a wonderful stay!

Hotels.com had great reviews and we were a little reserved when we saw Google reviews. This place is amazing. The craftsmanship that went into building this place is amazing! It was such a pleasant surprise on our unplanned trip here. The restaurants were amazing nearby. Even the food right here and the bar at the resort was very reasonable.

This was our 4th time at Tambor Tropical. The rooms are so beautiful, food is very good, location is perfect, and staff is very helpful. We love walking the beach every morning and listening to the howler monkeys at night. We are already planning on returning next year.

Wife and I just returned from 8 days early-mid November. Other than a couple of 8 hour visits to Costa Rica whilst on a cruise ship on the Caribbean side of the country, this is our first multi-day visit to Costa Rica. It was memorable; mostly good, some not so good. To Tambor Tropical Beach Resort's credit, they are responsible for many of the good memories and none of the lesser. Let's get the "not so good" Costa Rica visit issue out of the way now, so I can gush over the resort a little later. Rain...then it rained...more rain...when the rain stopped, it started raining again. We knew we were in the "shoulder season" between rainy and dry seasons, so we played the odds that say November is usually some rain in the afternoon or evening, then it stops and the sun comes out. So much for averages. Even the general manager at Tambor Tropical was empathetic to our bad timing, noting that this much rain, albeit not impossible, was very unusual for this time of year. This weather inconvenience, of course, cannot have any affect on my review of the actual resort, so here you go.|The cabinas are absolutely gorgeous. Mainly made of teak and other locally sourced hardwoods, each cabina is a are piece of artistic craftsmanship, all coated with layers and layers of varnish. The furnishings? Same thing, made on site and locally the same way. The only thing that is not varnished teak is the ceramic tile on the counters and in the shower, and the tiles on the roof. Seriously, every other square inch is meticulously crafted and finished, including the stairs up to the second floor and all the siding and eaves and rafters. If you are a "wood guy", you will be impressed; big time. The beds are boxes and mattresses on a platform. I am a light sleeper, and I slept like a bambino. We stayed in a second floor unit. Admittedly there was nobody in the unit below us, so I cannot speak to the quiet factor of adjoining living spaces. Quite frankly, I think only 2 other units were occupied during our stay, and they were each alone in a separate structure. There is some noise from the bar palapa when somebody is over exuberant or belts out a guffaw, but it seemed to disappear at about 9 or 10 pm. The maintenance guy starts the leaf blower around 7am to clean up; not a 747 taking off, but could make a difference for a light sleeper. Me? I'm an "early to bed and early to rise" guy, so it all worked great for me. The restaurant was prompt and the food was very good. For me, the restaurant was used when my day trip dictated that the best plan was to get back to home base, eat, and crash. Otherwise, I am all about trying out the local mom-and-pops (aka: Sodas). Anyway, the couple of dinners that we did have at the resort restaurant were very good, so if that is your plan, you are on a good track. The service at all levels was super prompt, extremely courteous, and ultra helpful. The staff and management all went above and beyond to help make my stay the best it could possibly be. Name drops and kudos to Ale, Andrea, Emily, and Juanca (in no specific order, and others that I do not have their names). All set the bar high, then rose above it. The grounds around the entire resort are trimmed, pruned, and landscaped into the dream garden that one might conjure up in their minds when dreaming of a tropical paradise nirvana. Within the confines of the entire complex, it is an oasis of tropical perfection. The screech of the passing Scarlet Macaws seals the deal.

We travel to CR every year and we always pick a new spot to explore . So far we have been really lucky in picking Great places and Tambor Tropical was no different. We always rent a car and when we drove in from a 3.5 hour drive having left the Alajuela region I was a bit apprehensive , where were all the people? This place was still unspoiled and What we soon learned was the cute, relaxing unique cabins were cozy and comfortable and I was glad we had the resort to ourselves It was if you had stepped into a movie set on a vast beach in a protected Bay and totally un commercialized .....yet. The Pool/Bar Hut was frequented by locals and tour guides and the kitchen served some of the best food anywhere and at a more than reasonable price. We could leisurely walk down to Breakfast , lunch and dinner and we did just that most of the 7 nights we were there. We walked the Beach everyday and there were never more than a dozen people . I am a sheller from NC in the USA and couldn't wait to go out and see what treasures I might find each morning. The staff were always attentive and helpful although they mostly spoke Spanish and french but that was never too much a problem for us mostly english speaking Americans. There were a couple of restaurants within a short walk and Market with anything you might need from toiletries to food to alcohol. We drove to Montezuma a quaint beach town with lots of shops and eating places only 30 minutes away a couple of times . The ferry to Puntarenas is also only 30 mins away and there's lots of things to do , waterfalls, Bioluminescence, 4 wheeling, Island of Tortuga is just a 40 min boat ride. We enjoyed just relaxing so much we have to come back to experience more. I can't wait to plan my next adventure and include Tambor Tropical .

We were on a tout with Caravan and stayed here for three days. This was enchanting with a perfect environment for both couples and families. The rooms are "plantation" oriented with massive courtyards of green. The food was exceptional and the staff very, very helpful. We were there for our anniversary and every aspect was perfect!

The only good reviews for this place are from locals. If you're a tourist, do not stay here. They absolutely cater to the locals. The locals are also extremely disrespectful inside the resort. Fair warning, I read a lot of good reviews and booked off that. It was a horrible decision and we left early just to get away from this place.

We stayed here 26 years ago after it first opened. Amazingly after so many years, it still looks brand new just like we remembered it. The place is idyllic and very romantic. The rooms are very large and have full kitchens, although we didn't use it. The service is fantastic - everyone is friendly and helpful. The manager even made sure we had lobster dinners one night. Since there are only 12 rooms, it is a very private place. At times it felt like our own private resort. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable for everything on the menu - $5 pina coladas were our favorite. Macaws and Howler Monkeys were around the property. They even have a special turtle rescue operation and we were able to help send a few babies into the ocean. The Pura Vida tour company on site arranges tours - we took the national park/snorkel trip and horseback along the beach and into the jungle. I would love to go back again.
